Son questioned after top Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner, wife found dead at LA home

Nick Reiner, the son of Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner, is being questioned after his parents were found dead at their Los Angeles home, reports quoted multiple sources, who spoke with family members, as saying.

While Police have not confirmed the account and said no arrests have been made, authorities said Nick, 32, is alive and cooperating with investigators.

Earlier, the Los Angeles Fire Department said it received a call for medical aid at around 3:30 pm local time on Sunday at a residence in the Brentwood area.

Emergency responders found a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman dead inside the home. They were identified as Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner.

Robbery-homicide detectives from the LA Police Department launched a homicide investigation, but no suspect or person of interest is currently being sought.

Details about injuries, the use of a weapon, or the circumstances of the deaths have not yet been disclosed either.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” a family spokesperson said in a statement to media.

“We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said the cause of death will be determined by the LA coroner’s office.

California Governor Gavin Newsom confirmed the deaths in a statement, saying he was “heartbroken”. He also called Reiner a “big-hearted genius behind so many of the classic stories we love”.

Former US President Barack Obama also paid tribute, saying he and his wife Michelle were heartbroken by the couple’s deaths.

“Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen,” Obama said.

“But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people – and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action,” he added.

Rob Reiner was best known for directing films including The Princess Bride, This Is Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally, Misery and A Few Good Men.
