Woman lured to Sahiwal by social media ‘friend’, raped by two

A young woman was reportedly gang-raped by a social media acquaintance and his accomplice after being lured to Sahiwal from Tandlianwala under the pretext of a job offer, police reported Saturday.

As per the authorities, the woman, who hails from Bherwana village in Tandlianwala, developed an online connection with a social media influencer from Sahiwal, which eventually grew into friendship.

The woman informed the police that she was invited to Sahiwal for a meeting on Thursday evening. Once she arrived, the accused allegedly picked her up in a vehicle and took her to a house where she was given a soft drink believed to have been laced with intoxicants.

She was later subjected to sexual assault by the accused and his accomplice.

She reported that the following morning, she was left at the General Bus Stand and threatened with severe consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.

Afterward, the woman went to the police and filed a complaint. Taking her statement, the Ghala Mandi police registered a case against the suspects who are still at large.
