Police have arrested a woman and her brother-in-law for allegedly murdering her husband in his sleep and attempting to disguise the murder as a heart attack.
Muhammad Khalid, 45, was discovered dead on October 30 in Khanpur, which is under the jurisdiction of the City Mailsi Police Station, according to police.
Khalid’s wife, Ruqayya Bibi, and older brother, Abid, first told family members and authorities that he had passed away from an unexpected heart attack.
However, District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Afzal ordered a thorough investigation conducted by DSP Saeed Ahmad Sial and SHO Mujahid Khan Baloch due to contradictions in their statements and suspicious signs at the scene.
Ruqayya and Abid were allegedly involved in an illicit relationship that Khalid had recently discovered, the investigation discovered.
Fearing exposure, the two reportedly plotted to kill him.
Investigators determined that the suspects spiked Khalid’s meal with sleeping pills, rendering him unconscious before suffocating him with a pillow as he slept.
They then raised an alarm to make it appear as if he had died of natural causes.Through forensic testing, cell phone information, and a post-mortem examination, police were able to prove that the death was a planned murder.
Both suspects were arrested and the murder weapon recovered. During interrogation, they confessed to the crime.
DPO Muhammad Afzal stated that a case has been registered under Section 302 and other relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code, while further legal action is underway.
