Pakistani Hindu couple found dead in Mumbai apartment

A Pakistani national Hindu couple was found dead in their apartment in Mumbai, India, on Monday. According to Indian media, it’s a murder-suicide case in which the husband is believed to have stabbed his wife with a kitchen knife and then committed suicide.

The wife reportedly sustained stab wounds on the neck, back and shoulder.

The husband has been identified as 45-year-old Sanjay Sachdeva, while the wife is 35-year-old Sapna Das.

Indian media cited a senior inspector of Kharghar police, Deepak Surve, as stating that last month, Sanjay was accused of assaulting his wife in front of their neighbours, but she chose not to file a complaint against him.

As per the details available so far, the younger of the couple’s two children found the main door of the apartment locked from the inside when he returned from coaching class on Monday, whereas the other sibling was not at home. When no one responded for a long while, the child continued to knock, and he reached out to the neighbours for help, who entered the apartment through a common balcony. The couple was found “in a pool of blood”.

The couple reportedly came to India last year, more than six months ago, along with their two children on a long-term visa.

The couple’s residential apartment was rented by Sapna’s sister Sangeeta Makhija, who is an Indian citizen and was reportedly supporting the family financially. According to a senior police officer, the two were in the process of completing their paperwork and legal requirements needed to return home after the escalation between Pakistan and India last month, in May.

Makhija reached out to the police for help after last month’s alleged assault, but they stated that they could not take effective action since Sapna declined to file a complaint.

  • ACF at odds with govt as ministry seeks transfer of rescued monkeys to Lahore Zoo

ACF at odds with govt as ministry seeks transfer of rescued monkeys to Lahore Zoo

ACF Animal Rescue, Pakistan’s largest rescue service and animal shelter, has challenged the Ministry of Climate Change’s decision to take away the rescued monkeys under its care.

According to a post shared by ACF on X (formerly Twitter), the monkeys that are to be taken away and transferred to Lahore Zoo were rescued when they were “about to die at the airport” while being smuggled abroad.

The organisation has been caring for the monkeys for the past five months, with the authorities concerned aware of the situation. However, ACF has now been informed that the monkeys were the “property of the federal government” and will be taken into custody.

“I have requested everyone possible to ensure they stay with us permanently or at least stay with us until they can go to a sanctuary abroad,” ACF said in a post.

ACF further argued that the monkeys were to be taken “immediately” because the authorities were “worried about their welfare”. However, the organisation has been caring for the monkeys for the past three months and added that if “we are that terrible [at doing the job], then they should have been taken into custody immediately”.

According to the Ministry of Climate Change, experts, including representatives from WWF-Pakistan, visited ACF earlier in May and reportedly found no indoor facilities. In contrast, Lahore Zoo’s enclosures have been approved by the standards of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

“If ACF has since upgraded, a second expert review is needed. #AnimalWelfare remains our utmost priority!” the ministry said in a social media post.

In response, ACF has argued that if animal welfare was indeed the ministry’s “top priority” then “it would be best to let the monkeys remain happy” as they were with the organisation. They further said that “a zoo is a cruel, archaic concept worldwide that should be banned”.

In another post, ACF requested the Ministry of Climate Change to “not see these monkeys as property of the federal government, but as sentient beings with ACF as their primary custodian”.

ACF has also maintained that they can “easily make adjustments to the enclosure” for the monkeys, arguing that a zoo cannot provide for them in the same way.

  • ‘Garam paani nahi aa raha tha’: Feroze Khan’s exchange with journalist draws mixed reactions

‘Garam paani nahi aa raha tha’: Feroze Khan’s exchange with journalist draws mixed reactions

Mixed reactions have poured in on social media over actor Feroze Khan’s exchange with journalist Ambreen Fatima after being called out for showing up late at a press conference.

As per the details, the event was scheduled for 3 PM but started around 5:30 PM because of Feroze’s late arrival. Ambreen, who was among the journalists present, called out the actor for his lack of professionalism and stressed the need to be punctual.

Feroze, however, jokingly responded that he had no warm water at home, which had caused the delay.

Nonetheless, Ambreen dismissed his justification, pointing out that many media representatives had left disappointed after waiting for hours. She also emphasised that the media plays a major role in celebrities’ success, to which someone added that fans do as well, and the journalist agreed.

However, Feroze interrupted, saying that the media had been against him for the past three years, which prompted applause from the audience.

Here’s how social media is reacting to the exchange:

One user wrote, “A “man” couldn’t digest being questioned by a “woman.” Her time is as important as his time. If she can be professional, who is stopping him from doing the same. The audacity.”

Another said, “People like this for real doesn’t deserve the fame kudos to the women for standing up”

A user also pointed at the support of Feroze Khan from the audience, saying, “Why’s everyone hooting on this unprofessional behavior”.

One added, “He does not have the common decency to let the other person even finish saying what she is saying!”

Some of the actor’s supporters, however, joined in his defence, saying, “First of all, he apologized for being late as soon as he arrived and secondly paani nhi aa raha tha yaar ‍♀️”

Another added, “He apologized for being late as soon as he reached there so there was no need to create unnecessary drama by the reporter.”

The press conference was part of Feroze Khan’s promotion for his upcoming boxing match with YouTuber Raheem Pardesi.

  • ‘Will wait for Rakhi Sawant at airport,’ says Hania Aamir

‘Will wait for Rakhi Sawant at airport,’ says Hania Aamir

Actress Hania Aamir has agreed to host Bollywood actress Rakhi Sawant if she visits Pakistan.

Hania Aamir and other actors attended an event in London this weekend, where Pakistani cricketer Saim Ayub was also present.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, Hania said that she would wait for Rakhi Sawant at the airport if she was to visit.

When asked if Rakhi invited her to India, the actress said that she would definitely go.

Another reporter asked, “What is the secret to your beauty and vitality?” To this, the actress replied, “Just be happy.”

In response to a question about becoming famous and working in India, Hania said that no such plan exists yet, but if one were available, she would definitely provide an update.

Previously, Bollywood’s favourite drama queen declared that she would move to Pakistan if TikTok was not unbanned in India; she has now jokingly claimed to have “arrived” in Lahore.

In a now-viral clip, Rakhi could be seen surrounded by a mountain of suitcases, dramatically announcing, “Look at this! I have brought so many bags from India to stay in Pakistan. I am standing in Lahore, at Lahore airport. Hania, I have come to meet you and stay with you!”

“I have left Bollywood and India to work in the Pakistani industry. Hania, clear out your wardrobes because all my bags are now in your house!” she added.

But that wasn’t all. Expressing her disappointment over the lack of a grand welcome, she hilariously complained, “Oh, people of Lahore, what are you doing? You were supposed to feed me Halwa Puri! No one came to pick me up!”

Just when the internet thought the excitement was over, another video surfaced of Rakhi, now supposedly near Lahore’s PC Hotel, dramatically stating, “I am in Lahore. People of Pakistan, I am tired! Now, who is coming to pick me up?”

To add to the theatrics, Rakhi made a fake call to Hania, saying, “Hania, where are you? I waited at the airport for two hours! Now I am at PC Hotel. Are you coming to pick me up? And whoever wants to meet me, come to Lahore. I’m here!”

And in true Rakhi style, she wasn’t done with her demands: “Where is Wasim Akram? Bring him too! Because Wasim Akram said, ‘Rakhi, whenever you come to Pakistan, we will welcome you.’”

At this point, Pakistanis on social media were thoroughly entertained, with many jokingly offering to deliver her long-awaited halwa puri.

Here’s how much Mawra Hocane’s bridal dress cost

Pakistani actors and longtime friends Mawra Hocane and Ameer Gilani recently tied the knot, much to the delight of their fans.

Pictures and videos of their wedding functions have been circulating on social media, becoming the talk of the town.

Media reports have revealed details of Mawra’s wedding dress.

A post shared by the actress on social media revealed that the Best Actress award winner chose a pair from a renowned designer in Lahore for her wedding.

According to various media reports, the price of the lehenga is PKR 1.95 million (19 lakh 50 thousand).

Mawra Hocane surprised the fans with her unexpected wedding after posting pictures with Ameer Gilani in wedding attire at Lahore Fort.

Pictures on her Instagram showed the actor wearing a sky-blue frock while Ameer looked dashing in a traditional shalwar kameez.

“And in the middle of chaos, I found you. Bismillah. #marwaameerhogaye,” she wrote.

The couple surprised fans by announcing their marriage, having kept their relationship under wraps for years.

Known for their on-screen chemistry in dramas like Neem (2023) and Sabaat (2020), both actors had always referred to each other as friends.

The revelation has made it one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings of the season.

Indian influencer calls Mawra’s dress ‘tacky’?

Indian fashion influencer Sufi Motiwala, known for his commentary on celebrity outfits, recently sparked controversy with his critique of Pakistani actor Mawra’s wedding look shortly after she tied the knot with actor Ameer Gilani.

In a video, he called the fabric of Mawra’s lehenga “tacky” and “questionable.”

He stated, “This is what happens when you live in a world without Sabyasachi and Manish Malhotra. The fabric choice is tacky.” His comments quickly caught the attention of fashion enthusiasts and industry insiders.

Pakistani stylist Zahra Sarfraz did not hold back in responding, calling Sufi “tacky” for his limited appreciation of fashion.

“What I find truly tacky is living outside the world of originality, sticking to two to three designers, making yourself feel better with that one label,” she remarked in her counter-video.

She also took the opportunity to educate the Indian influencer and his followers on the sentimental value behind Mawra’s wedding attire. She explained that the Sanam Teri Kasam actor had built her entire bridal look around her mother-in-law’s dupatta.

  • Family continues Khuzdar protests despite abducted woman’s video message

Family continues Khuzdar protests despite abducted woman’s video message

Asma, who was allegedly kidnapped from Khuzdar, Balochistan, has given a statement stating that she went with the alleged kidnapper Zahoor Ahmed of her own free will. The claim comes amid Balochistan government’s raids to recover Asma, while the Chief Minister said that a suspect involved in the incident had been arrested.

The kidnapping took place in Shehzad City, a posh area adjacent to the N-25 highway in Khuzdar, on Thursday night.

According to police sources, more than a dozen armed men entered Inayatullah Jatak’s residence on January 6, assaulted family members, and forcibly took Inayatullah’s daughter Asma with them.

After the incident, her relatives closed the N-25 highway for traffic at two places, Jhalawan Sabzi Mandi and Zero Point area, and staged a sit-in.

Khuzdar police held talks with the protesters several times under the leadership of SSP Javed Zehri, but these ended in vain.

This was followed by the spokesperson of the Balochistan government, Shahid Rind, stating that the police and Levies are conducting operations to recover Asma in Khuzdar. A suspicious person had been detained in Anjira after a raid.

A case was also registered against the main suspect Zahoor Ahmed and his accomplices under sections 365, 354, and 397 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the kidnapped woman’s brother, Abdul Hafeez Jatak. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to immediately arrest the perpetrators and ensure the safe recovery of the kidnapped woman.

Shahid Rind said that the Balochistan government is taking all possible steps to protect the lives and property of the citizens and that no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands. On the instructions of the Chief Minister of Balochistan, full cooperation is being provided to the police and Levies so that the accused are arrested soon and the kidnapped woman can be recovered.

Meanwhile, a joint video of Asma Baloch and Zahoor Ahmed Jamalzai has surfaced, in which Asma Baloch, speaking in Brahui language, claims that she was not kidnapped but went with Zahoor of her own consent. Zahoor also takes the same stance.

According to Zahoor, propaganda is being used against him in the media.

In response to the video, the sister of the alleged abductee also released a video in which she rejected Zahoor’s statement and criticised the government and the administration.

Asma’s sister said in the video statement: “As you know, a video of my sister was released on social media by her kidnappers. I and the Baloch nation completely reject [the claims]. There is no doubt that this statement was made forcibly under the influence of the kidnappers. They are trying to blackmail us in vain so that we withdraw from our peaceful protest. Moreover, they are trying to change public opinion, which is in our favour.”

She further said, “After the release of this video, the administration and the government cannot claim that it is not possible to trace the criminals. The account or number from which this video was first shared can easily lead to the criminals. If, despite the release of this video, the government fails to arrest the criminals and rescue my sister, then I will consider that the administration is deliberately leaving the criminals free.”

Asma’s sister asserted that, “Until my sister is released and the criminals are severely punished, our protest will continue. We will intensify and expand our protest.”

  • Chahat Fateh Ali Khan proposes to TV host on air

Chahat Fateh Ali Khan proposes to TV host on air

Self-proclaimed singer and social media star Chahat Fateh Ali Khan has become the centre of another controversy. A video of his interview on Suno To Sahi, hosted by Hina Niazi, went viral, and social media users criticised both of them.

On the set of the show, Chahat made several videos with host Hina Niazi, which he shared on his social media.

One of the video clips from the show, also shared by the private channel’s official TV social media page, particularly sparked criticism in which Chahat proposed the young TV host.

During the said clip, Hina asked him about the type of partner he wanted to marry, to which Chahat, claiming to be single, replied to Hina Niazi that he wanted a beautiful Pashtoon and blue-eyed girl like her.

He also tells the TV host that he has been waiting to meet her for a year, and now “God has accepted my prayers.”

The Hina responds with laughter, jokingly saying, “I value your sentiments, but my family is very strict, so you are not my choice.”

Another video under criticism was posted on Chaht Fateh Ali Khan’s Instagram, in which the host asks which program he enjoyed the most, to which Chahat names the said host.

But then Chahat also jokes about the two being the same height and that she is single, and so is he, “Today, our pair is meant to be made.”

This comes days after Chahat Fateh Ali Khan threatened legal action against television host Mathira after she revealed she was very uncomfortable during an interaction with him.

Khan recently appeared on Mathira’s talk show The 21mm Show, and posted a video on his Instagram where he was moving closer to the host while singing his popular song, Bado Badi, while she kept moving away. Khan also gave her a one-armed hug and held her arm repeatedly, despite her nervous laughter.

In a video titled “Mathira breaks silence on harassment by Chahat Fateh Ali Khan,” she spoke about the incident and said, “Whenever a guest comes to our show, I respect them and treat them with love and kindness, but making a video in this way was a very bad move. Being bold does not mean that anyone will see and hug me,”  Mathira said.

“I was feeling very uncomfortable. This video was not made with our cameras, but by Chahat Fateh without permission. My team and I did not know that this video was made. The show’s cameras are somewhere else, while this video was made from another spot, which is not allowed,” she explained.

“As a woman, all this was painful because I do not do all these things to hug people,” she remarked.

Chahat responded in a video posted on his Instagram account, stating that Mathira was speaking out against him when in “reality” she had pleaded for months that he appear on her show because it wasn’t doing well.

  • American lady finally returns to US

American lady finally returns to US

Onijah Andrew Robinson, the American woman who has been in Karachi ever since her Pakistani lover abandoned her after making false promises of marriage last year, has now returned to the US.

She reportedly landed in Karachi on October 11, 2024, while her visa was set to expire on November 10, but after her online paramour, 19-year-old Nidal Ahmed Memon, refused to marry her, instead of returning to the US, the 33-year-old chose to stay.

In January, she was taken into police custody after the Airport Security Force (ASF) stopped her as she tried to enter Karachi airport.

According to private media reports, Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori then intervened, and Onijah was issued a 15-day exit permit on January 27 while a welfare organisation booked an air ticket back home for her.

At the time of her return, however, she refused to leave and claimed she was being forced to return by the authorities.

She stayed at what she claimed to be her “friend’s house” in Karachi’s Garden area until she was provided shelter by a welfare organisation.

In February, she was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Karachi, with concerns for her mental health.

According to media sources, incoherence in speech and swelling in her hands and feet caused concerns. Admitted to the  Department of Psychiatry, reports of her detailed examination are due.

Jeremiah Andrew Robinson, Onijah’s son, revealed in a video statement earlier this week that his mother is mentally unwell and experiences cognitive hindrances. He stated that her claims and actions must be perceived and dealt with accordingly.

He also claimed that Onijah was supposed to return to the US two weeks after she arrived in Pakistan in October., and that he and his brother had bought a return ticket.

The 33-year-old US national’s criminal record shows that she was arrested in Charleston County in South Carolina in 2021, “ENTERING PREMISES AFTER WARNING”. It also revealed that a bail bond of $465 is possibly not paid.

On February 7, a medical board gave the green signal for her to travel, deeming her fit to go, after which the police escorted her to the airport. US Consulate staff also paid her a visit to the hospital, persuading her to go back to the US, and organised her flight.

While Onijah Robinson was in Pakistan, people around the world, especially in America, followed her story with zesty as her odyssey turned into a media storm. Foreign netizens shared how their perspective of Pakistanis changed upon witnessing the hospitality given to Onija and the patience people here showed towards her. Comparisons were drawn with the depiction of Pakistanis in Western media, which is often bleak and fearful.

  • Aga Khan passes away at 88

Aga Khan passes away at 88

The 49th hereditary imam of the Shia Ismailis, Prince Karim Al-Hussaini, famously known as Aga Khan, “passed away peacefully” on February 5, in Lisbon, Portugal, his official charity page on X (formerly Twitter), posted.

He was 88 years of age.

He built his legacy by becoming a billionaire philanthropist and humanitarian who provided great support to people around the world.

Under The Aga Khan Development Network, he built homes, hospitals, and schools in developing countries and worked on rural economic development.

A large network of hospitals and laboratories has been built all across countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan, providing health care to those who can not afford it.

Similarly, his projects involve providing scholarships to students from underprivileged backgrounds. Tens of millions of dollars have also been spent on the development of local economies.

Prince Aga Karim was only a college student when he was given the responsibility to lead his people.

His grandfather decided to pass over his son, who was known to be a playboy, and chose Prince Aga Karim as the leader of the community at the young age of only 20, becoming the spiritual leader of millions of Ismaili Muslims around the world.

“I was an undergraduate who knew what his work for the rest of his life was going to be,” he said in a 2012 interview with Vanity Fair magazine. “I don’t think anyone in my situation would have been prepared.”

He had a passion for architecture and design, which inspired him to create an architecture prize and establish Islamic Architecture programs at MIT and Harvard. He also worked on restoring historic Islamic buildings worldwide.

His death was announced by the Aga Khan Foundation, and the Ismaili religious community announced it on their websites.

The announcement of his successor is expected to come out soon.

Condolences from around the world have poured in. Prince Charles considered Prince Karim Aga Khan ‘a personal friend of many years,’ and he is ‘deeply saddened’ by the news of his death.

Aga Khan was also a close friend of Queen Elizabeth II, both of whom were avid horse racing enthusiasts, and the two had attended a number of Royal Ascot together.

The late Queen invited Aga Khan for a dinner at Buckingham Palace in 2008. He was considered to be highly regarded by the British monarchy.

Aga Khan was also granted the title of ‘His Highness’ by Queen Elizabeth in July 1957.
