Cybercrime agency arrests Peshawar hospital staffer for ‘secretly recording, extorting’ women

Authorities in Peshawar have taken into custody a government-run hospital’s CCTV operator for his alleged involvement in secretly filming women and leveraging those recordings for blackmail.

According to reports, the arrest came after an investigation that was initiated over a woman’s report to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

She told the investigators that a man named Imran had reached out to her, claiming he wanted to marry her. He later started blackmailing her with private photographs and videos, demanding Rs2 million.

The victim reported to the authorities that the suspect had already sent a video to her brother-in-law and was also pressuring her father.

With the NCCIA launching a probe, it analysed the material provided by the complainant and organised an operation to apprehend Imran. A meeting between the victim and the suspect was arranged at Tatara Park in the provincial capital where investigators nabbed him.

A mobile phone in his possession revealed WhatsApp chats, numerous recordings and videos of women that seemed to have been recorded without consent.

During interrogation, Imran revealed that he was employed as a CCTV operator at PIC Peshawar, and most videos, which appeared to be from the hospital’s internal surveillance feeds, were recorded at the women’s ward.

After the recovery of evidence, the NCCIA compiled the information and submitted a report to local law enforcement.

A case was formally registered under cybercrime and extortion laws.

Man held for assault, murder of Clifton woman

Police on Saturday said they have arrested a man for his alleged involvement in the murder of a woman whose body was discovered earlier this week in Clifton, Karachi.

On November 25, the remains of a woman named Shehnaz Arshad Gill were discovered near Urban Forest in Clifton, showing clear evidence of torture. An autopsy subsequently indicated that she had been sexually assaulted prior to her murder. South DIG Syed Asad Raza informed a private news channel that the detained suspect lived in Akhtar Colony and was acquainted with the victim.

During the interrogation, the man informed the detectives that he and woman, who he said was a friend of his, had met near Clifton on November 22. A disagreement regarding money resulted in a physical altercation, during which the victim snatched his phone. Enraged, he repeatedly hit her head and face with a rock, killing her. He subsequently ran off, taking her phone along with some cash from her purse.

The DIG said the suspect had confessed to the crime. He added that to conceal the victim’s identity, the suspect smashed her face with a heavy stone and burned her fingers with a cigarette lighter.
Authorities retrieved the stolen mobile device from the suspect.

Gill was living in Saeedabad, Baldia Town. He hails from Mian Channu in the Khanewal district of Punjab.

The victim had been declared missing on November 22, with her son filing a missing person report at the Madina Colony police station.

According to police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, the woman’s remains, which had disfigured facial features and were in the early stages of decay, were discovered in an open area within the Boat Basin police station’s jurisdiction.

  • Rohit Sharma breaks Afridi’s ODI sixes record but Boom Boom was more consistent

Rohit Sharma breaks Afridi’s ODI sixes record but Boom Boom was more consistent

Indian batsman Rohit Sharma has broken former Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi’s long standing record for the most sixes in One Day Internationals.

Sharma reached 352 sixes during the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi on Sunday, moving one ahead of Afridi’s 351.

Rohit achieved the milestone in 269 innings. Afridi, on the other hand, played 369 innings to reach his total. On paper, Rohit now holds the record, but a deeper comparison shows a very different picture of their hitting power.

Rohit has faced 12,321 balls in his ODI career, while Afridi faced 6,892. When the numbers are compared, Afridi hit a six almost twice as often as Rohit.

Afridi cleared the boundary once every twenty balls approximately while Rohit hits one roughly every thirty five balls.

Rohit Sharma did not start his ODI career as a heavy six hitter. He struck his first six in his third innings against Pakistan in Jaipur, and even after scoring his maiden ODI century in his 40th innings in 2010, he had managed only five sixes from 1023 balls. His big hitting skills developed much later.

Shahid Afridi, in contrast, announced himself as a power hitter from the very beginning. He did not bat in his debut match against Kenya in October 1996, but in his very next game, he blasted a 37 ball century against Sri Lanka, scoring 102 runs with 11 sixes and six fours.

His style never changed and defined his entire career.

The contrast shows that Afridi remained the more explosive batter, even though Rohit eventually surpassed his total.

Both players sit near the top of the global charts across all formats as well. Rohit leads international cricket with more than six hundred and forty sixes. Chris Gayle follows with 553, while Afridi remains third with 476 on the overall list.

  • Aurangzeb calls IMF assessment a chance to accelerate reforms

Aurangzeb calls IMF assessment a chance to accelerate reforms

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Sunday described the IMF’s ‘Governance Diagnostic and Corruption Report’ as a chance to accelerate institutional reforms, saying the assessment should serve as guidance rather than criticism of government policy.
He stated during a press conference that the government had requested the assessment on its own as part of its emphasis on transparency. He continued by saying that the IMF had observed progress in public financial management, taxation, governance, and procurement.

He said several major reforms were already in progress, while the remaining recommendations would be taken forward to address long-standing structural gaps. “Institutional reform remained essential to sustaining Pakistan’s economic turnaround,” he said.

“The decision to end the 0.25 percent levy, along with overhauling the governance of the Export Development Fund, reflected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directive to place the private sector at the centre of economic expansion,” he said. He added that the summary had been sent to the cabinet and implementation would begin once approved.

Aurangzeb pointed out that recent indicators showed improving economic activity. Between July and October, cement production rose 16 percent, fertiliser nine percent, petroleum four percent, automobiles 31 percent and mobile phone assembly 26 percent.

He mentioned that large-scale manufacturing experienced a 4.1 percent increase in the first quarter following a downturn last year, stressing that the main challenge is sustaining growth without being affected by external shocks or experiencing boom-and-bust trends.

Aurangzeb announced a five percent rise in exports, with IT exports experiencing growth of over 20 percent, marking consecutive monthly highs in September and October. The $3.5 billion financing secured for Reko Diq has reached its financial close and is anticipated to yield nearly $3 billion in annual export earnings once production commences.

The finance czar also indicated that remittances reached $38 billion last year and are expected to surpass $41 billion this year, bolstering the current account while imports are being regulated under an updated tariff framework that emphasizes raw materials and intermediate goods, gradually eliminating protection over the next four to five years.

Three Dolphin officials held in Faisalabad over custodial death in paksitan

Khurrianwala Police have arrested three Dolphin Force officials in Faisalabad on Sunday on charges of assaulting a suspect who later died in hospital. The case involves Muhammad Yousaf, a motorcycle mechanic from Chak 211 RB in Jaranwala, who had been detained on Nov 17 in a theft case at a local workshop.

According to the complainant Muhammad Abbas, his brother Yousaf worked at the workshop where the alleged theft took place.

He stated that after the arrest, Yousaf was taken to an unknown location by Dolphin team leader Raza Sajid, along with three officials. The workshop owner Kamran, his nephew Abubakar and an accountant named Ayatollah have also been accused of being involved in the incident.

Abbas said the group demanded Rs50,000 for Yousaf’s release and, after he refused, the mechanic was subjected to further assault. Abbas claimed that Yousaf was let go only when his condition worsened.

He was shifted to Faisalabad DHQ Hospital, where he died on Sunday. Khurrianwala Police said they were carrying out raids to locate one more police official and three other suspects.

In a separate case, Jhang Satellite Town Police registered a triple murder case on Sunday against eight people for the killing of former Jhang District Bar Association president Mehar Muhammad Munir Sadhana, his driver, and a passerby on Gojra Road a day earlier.

The complainant, Advocate Fazal Abbas Sadhana, stated that his brother was on the way to the courts complex when Imran Shah, Ashiq Shah and two unidentified individuals riding two motorcycles opened fire at the car. He said the attack also injured a  butcher.

Fazal Abbas said that a day before the shooting, four associates of the accused Asif Shah, Samar Shah, Qalab Shah and Haseebullah  had posted on social media that they would seek revenge for the killing of their relative Saqlain Shah. He stated that his brother had been representing the suspect in a case related to Saqlain Shah’s murder, and the suspects were currently in jail.

Police said teams were conducting raids to trace and arrest the suspects named in the FIR.

In another incident, a suspect identified as Muhammad Nasir of Chak 187 GB Rajana was killed in what police described as an encounter with a CCD team in Gojra. According to police, Nasir fired at officials during a routine patrol. He was taken to Gojra THQ Hospital, where he died. Police said Nasir was wanted in multiple dacoity cases.

  • Petrol, diesel prices revised for next fortnight

Petrol, diesel prices revised for next fortnight

The federal government has updated the prices of key petroleum products for the upcoming 15 days. A notification released by the Petroleum Division on Sunday indicated that the adjusted rates will take effect from December 1 and remain valid until December 15.

As stated in the notification, the price adjustments occurred after the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) provided its assessments for the new cycle. The notification confirmed that the government accepted the Authority’s recommendations and published the new rates.

The price of petrol is now set at 263.45 rupees per litre following a decrease of Rs2 per litre, down from the previous rate of 265.45 rupees. High-speed diesel price has been lowered by Rs4.79 per litre, now priced at 279.65 rupees per litre, a reduction from 284.44 rupees.

High-speed diesel serves the transportation and agricultural sectors, and variations in its price influence the distribution of goods and agricultural operations. Petrol fuels motorbikes and cars, with Punjab being the main consumer due to restrictions on local gas usage at CNG stations in the region.

The notification emphasized that the taxes on petroleum products remain unchanged. Currently, the petroleum levy on high-speed diesel stands at Rs75.41 per litre, with an additional charge of Rs2.50 per litre as CSL. Petrol has a petroleum levy of Rs97.62 per litre alongside the same CSL rate. There is no sales tax applied to petrol, high-speed diesel, kerosene, or other petroleum products.

The federal government previously raised the petroleum levy to ensure full tax collection on petroleum products. The sales tax from petroleum products is shared with the provinces, and the federal government reduced the rate to zero to retain overall revenue at the center.

The petroleum levy was established to facilitate investment in the oil supply chain, including projects for storage. Successive administrations have redirected levy funds to cover operational expenses, while the funding for specific sector projects has not changed.

The latest price adjustments conclude the most recent fortnightly cycle and adhere to the standard review process, where OGRA provides updated calculations reflecting international prices, exchange rate changes, and local modifications.

Woman dies in Nishtar Colony after in-laws assault her

A woman passed away in Nishtar Colony in Lahore on Sunday after her parents claimed that her in-laws had subjected her to assault amid a domestic dispute.

Aqsa, 26, was brought to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, which police referred to as signs of torture. Subsequently, her body was transferred to the city morgue for an autopsy.

According to the police official, Aqsa had been a victim of domestic violence inflicted by her in-laws since several months. He stated that the police received a call on Sunday indicating that she had undergone brutal torture during an argument at home and had lost consciousness.

According to police, she did not survive her injuries. Her parents blamed her husband and other family members for the violence that led to her death. Authorities noted that the investigation will progress following the completion of the autopsy report.

In another incident, Karachi police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old newly wed girl whose body was found hanging on the rooftop of a residential building in DHA Phase V in the night between November 17 and 18.

Police registered a murder case at Darakhshan Police Station on the complaint of her father.

According to reports, Zainab moved to Karachi from Sialkot about a month ago after she got married. She had been staying at her husband’s maternal aunt’s house in Badr Commercial, where her body was discovered.

Her father, Abdul Jabbar, said his daughter went to the rooftop the previous evening and did not return for a long time. He said he later learned that someone had strangled her and that she was found unconscious on the rooftop.

When she was taken to the hospital, doctors confirmed she had died. He said he believes someone strangled his daughter for unknown reasons and that he requested legal action for justice.

Police detained a suspicious individual while also questioning others connected to the case. The SSP confirmed that the aunt’s son, Abdul Hadi, is currently in custody. He said anyone found involved in the murder will face justice.

Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya said the preliminary post-mortem shows Zainab died from strangulation. She said investigators collected samples for chemical and DNA analysis.
