Explosion rocks Islamabad a day after suspected terror attack in New Delhi

A day after a suspected terror attack in New Delhi, a suicide blast outside the district courts has rocked the Pakistani federal capital, leaving at least 12 dead and over two dozen injured, including petitioners and lawyers.

As per the details, the blast occurred near the main gate of the G 11 Islamabad Courthouse, prompting emergency measures at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). Emergency services at other hospitals were also activated, and the casualties were transferred from the site by Rescue 1122, private ambulances and police vehicles.

A heavy contingent of police personnel also reached the hospital with Islamabad inspector general of police (IGP) and the chief commissioner visiting the site.

The nature of the blast was confirmed by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi as a suicide attack.

The security czar said the suicide bomber was trying to enter the courthouse but “when he did not get an opportunity, he attacked a police vehicle”.

Earlier, police said that the explosion occurred in a car parked outside the court.

While authorities are investigating the incident amid tightened security in surrounding areas, the explosion comes a day after a suspected terror attack near the historic Red Fort in New Delhi on Monday evening.

The blast that killed at least eight people and injured 24 others was a rare occurrence in the heavily guarded city of more than 30 million people, sending several states and key facilities into high alert.

Indian Home Minister Amit Shah said “all angles” were being investigated and security agencies would come to a conclusion soon.

Police said a slow-moving car which stopped at a traffic signal exploded just before 7 pm (1330 GMT). Nearby vehicles were also badly damaged.

The explosion left behind mangled bodies and the wreckage of several cars on a congested street near a metro station in the old quarter of Delhi.

The explosion is being probed under a stringent law used to fight “terrorism”, television channels reported, citing a case registered by the police.

The law, called the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, is India’s main anti-terrorism law and is used to investigate and prosecute acts related to “terrorism” and activities that threaten the sovereignty and integrity of the country.

In the absence of an official word on the nature of the blast, unconfirmed media reports have traced the explosion back to a Muslim man hailing from held Kashmir’s Pulwama area

The explosion came hours after 350 kilograms of ammonium nitrate was recovered from Faridabad near Delhi – in widespread crackdown on what officials called a terror network operating within the heart of India.

  • John Cena beats Dominik Mysterio to complete Grand Slam

John Cena beats Dominik Mysterio to complete Grand Slam

John Cena reached a major career milestone on Monday night when he defeated Dominik Mysterio to win the Intercontinental Championship on WWE Raw.

The win makes Cena the 25th superstar in WWE history to complete the Grand Slam by winning the WWE, Intercontinental, United States (US) and Tag Team Championships at least once.

Mysterio entered the match as the reigning Intercontinental Champion after winning the title at WrestleMania earlier this year.

He tried to control the match with constant taunts and aggressive tactics, even attempting a submission that the referee failed to catch. Cena stayed calm and kept building momentum with his signature power moves.

The finish came when Mysterio went for a Frog Splash. Cena anticipated the move, caught him mid-air and delivered an Attitude Adjustment that secured the three-count and the championship.

The moment carried huge emotional weight for Cena. He had never competed for the Intercontinental Championship on television before this match. His only previous attempts happened during untelevised house shows, which made Monday night’s match feel like a final chance as the 48-year-old star moves towards the end of his career.

Earlier, Mysterio tried to spoil the farewell run by mocking Cena throughout the buildup.

WWE executive Paul “Triple H” Levesque stepped in and confirmed the match, setting up a showdown that ended with Cena’s latest historic achievement.

With this victory, Cena joins a select group of Grand Slam Champions that includes Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Kane, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle and Eddie Guerrero.

The milestone strengthens Cena’s reputation as one of the most decorated and influential performers in WWE history. His career has combined longevity, championship success and the ability to deliver on the biggest stages.

The win also signals the start of a new tournament that will determine Cena’s final opponent for his farewell tour. WWE plans to highlight his legacy in the coming weeks as one of the most respected names to ever step inside the ring.

Alina Amir advises Babar Azam to get married if…

TikTok star and social media influencer Alina Amir has advised former Pakistan captain Babar Azam to get married if he has found the right person.

She suggested so while speaking to a private TV channel — when asked about ongoing discussions regarding Babar’s marriage.

“Everyone is talking about Babar Azam’s wedding. Should he get married now or continue focusing on his career?” a reporter asked.

“There is no fixed time for marriage. When you find a good person, you should get married,” she responded.

Alina added that if Babar had found someone good, then he should get married. “Everyone should do the same because there is no set rule for marriage.”

Alina Amir has built a strong following on TikTok and Instagram through her videos that include fashion content, funny videos and social commentary.

During the conversation with journalists, she also shared her favourite cricketer from the current Pakistan side.

“Saim Ayub is playing really well. Sometimes he gets out for zero and sometimes he scores a hundred.”

She added that several players in the squad were improving and performance always decided who stood out.

Babar Azam, on the other hand, remains one of Pakistan’s most celebrated cricketers.

He has captained Pakistan in all three formats and is consistently ranked among the top batters in ODI and T20 cricket.

Babar has kept his private matters away from media and chooses not to comment on it publicly.

Babar made headlines for crossing 15,000 international runs across formats, strengthening his position among Pakistan’s top all-time run-scorers.

He also remains one of the highest run-getters in T20I history and held the record for being the fastest player to reach three thousand T20I runs, achieving the feat in eighty-one innings.

His consistent rankings in ICC ODI and T20I lists keep him in the global spotlight and he continues to break new milestones for Pakistan.

  • Dharmendra’s daughter says her father is alive after Indian media declares him dead

Dharmendra’s daughter says her father is alive after Indian media declares him dead

Bollywood legend Dharmendra is “stable and recovering”, his daughter has said, after almost every media outlet declared him dead on Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

The popular actor, known in the 80s as Bollywood’s ‘He-Man’, was admitted to the famous Breach Candy Hospital on November 10 after he complained of breathing issues while at home.

As news spread of the legendary star’s illness, his famous children started visiting one by one. Footage captured by paparazzi outside the hospital showed Dharmendra’s eldest son, the action star Sunny Deol, leaving from hospital looking visibly emotional. Some news outlets were quick to report that the 89-year-old had been put on a ventilator or had died, but Sunny’s team then put out a statement saying, “Dharamji is still in the hospital. Doctors have not advised him to go home. His condition is improving. He is being monitored and is not on a ventilator.”

Later in the night, A-listers of the Indian film industry, including superstars Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan, visited Dharmendra in hospital. His younger son, Bobby Deol, his wife Hema Malini and his daughter Esha Deol also visited the actor in hospital.

As fans prayed for Dharmendra, news outlets again jumped the gun late at night, saying that he had died. Early on the morning of November 11, Esha Deol took to Instagram to confirm that her father was recovering. In a blistering attack on media, she wrote: “The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for Papa’s speedy recovery.”

Dharmendra was born in what is now the Indian side of Punjab in 1935. The actor has a career that spanned over six decades, and included streaks of hits including his most famous role, smash hit Sholay’s Veeru. He has remained active in the industry even late in his career, last appearing on screen in 2024 in the film Teri Baaton Main Aisa Uljha Jiya.

  • Shaheen Afridi says Rizwan stepped down from captaincy by choice

Shaheen Afridi says Rizwan stepped down from captaincy by choice

Pakistan ODI captain Shaheen Afridi has said that Mohammad Rizwan stepped down from leading the team by his own choice and he informed Rizwan first when he was appointed captain.

Speaking to members of the media in Rawalpindi before the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Shaheen said he contacted Babar Azam and other players when he first became captain. He said, “I will not talk about why I was removed from captaincy.”

Shaheen said that when the PCB offered him the ODI captaincy, he immediately informed Rizwan. He said, “I told Rizwan first that I am becoming captain and I took his opinion.” He added, “Rizwan decided himself to step away from captaincy and I accepted the role after consulting him.”

Shaheen said the team is focusing on all three departments, batting, bowling and fielding. He said every player must take responsibility. He said, “It is not the job of only Rizwan, Babar, Fakhar, Saim or Shaheen.”

Commenting on Babar Azam’s form, Shaheen said, “Babar will return with performances and a century.”

Shaheen said he seeks advice when he needs it and not only from former captains. He said, “Rizwan has scored the most runs in ODIs since 2023. The priority is to support players who are not in form.”

Shaheen said Pakistan must strengthen its bench and the captain should be part of selection discussions. He said the selection committee picks the 15-member squad but the captain’s opinion matters.

Shaheen also spoke about Hassan Nawaz. He said, “Hassan recently became a father and needed family time, which is why he was released from the squad. Releasing him does not mean he is out of future plans.” Shaheen said, “Hassan will play domestic cricket at his preferred batting position and that other batters are performing well at that spot in the national side.”

Last month, the PCB replaced Rizwan with Shaheen as Pakistan’s ODI captain.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka will play an ODI series in Rawalpindi from November 11 to 15. The tri-nation series will run from November 17 to 29 with Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

  • 27th Amendment: Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, ex-judges, senior lawyers express concern in letters to CJP

27th Amendment: Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, ex-judges, senior lawyers express concern in letters to CJP

Supreme Court’s (SC) Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, urging him to take the lead and engage the executive over the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment.

In his letter, Justice Mansoor called on the top judge to immediately reach out to the executive and make it clear that no constitutional amendment could be made without consultation with judges of the constitutional courts.

He also suggested that a convention of judges from constitutional courts could be convened to discuss the matter collectively. “You are not just the administrator of this institution — you are its guardian. This moment calls for you to show leadership,” he wrote.

Justice Mansoor pointed out that the proposed amendment includes the creation of a separate Federal Constitutional Court and seeks to limit the Supreme Court to an appellate role only.

Referring to the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which is still pending before the court, Justice Mansoor questioned how a new amendment could move forward when the legality of the previous one remained undecided.

“Changes to the judicial structure cannot be made unilaterally by the executive or legislature,” he said, warning that bypassing judicial consultation would undermine constitutional balance.

Separately, a group of retired judges and senior lawyers also penned a letter to CJP Yahya Afridi, seeking a full court meeting over the proposed amendment.

They expressed “deep sadness and regret” over what they termed as the “greatest threat” to the apex court since its establishment in 1956.

They maintained that neither civilian nor military governments in Pakistan’s history had ever attempted, let alone succeeded, in relegating the apex court to a subordinate entity or depriving it of its constitutional jurisdiction — something they claimed was being done through the proposed amendment.

They urged the top judge to call a full court meeting immediately to discuss the proposed amendment and formulate a collective response to the federal government, maintaining that the SC “has every right and power to give its input” regarding any constitutional change that affects its structure and authority.

The letter was written by Advocate Faisal Siddiqui and signed by former senior puisne judge of the top court, Justice (r) Mushir Alam, and ex-Sindh High Court senior puisne judge, Justice (r) Nadeem Akhtar.

Senior lawyers Muneer A Malik, Anwar Mansoor Khan, Muhammad Akram Sheikh, Ali Ahmad Kurd, Abid S Zuberi, Kamran Amanullah, Khawaja Ahmad Hosain, Salahuddin Ahmed and Shabnam Nawaz Awan are also among the signatories of the letter.

  • Afghan chief selector lashes out at Cricket Australia

Afghan chief selector lashes out at Cricket Australia

Afghanistan Cricket Board’s chief selector and former cricketer Asadullah Khan has strongly criticised Cricket Australia for repeatedly refusing to play a bilateral series against Afghanistan.

He said that Australia’s stance goes against the spirit of the game and unfairly targets the Afghan men’s team, which has earned its place in elite cricket through hard work and merit.

“Cricket Australia’s refusal to play bilateral series is against the spirit of the game. Afghanistan’s team is being targeted in an unfair way. The current Afghan side has earned its place in elite cricket with strong performances,” Asadullah remarked told an Indian media outlet.

He added that the Afghanistan women’s team has not been able to play in recent years due to circumstances in the country, and “change takes time.”

He said, “Afghanistan achieved success in world cricket on merit. Our team did not get success because of favoritism or charity. Cricket Australia and other boards are linking cricket with politics, and I believe this is not good for the gentleman’s game.”

Cricket Australia has maintained its position since the Taliban returned to power in September 2021.

After the takeover, the Taliban placed restrictions on women’s sports, including cricket, among a host of measures that have reduced civil and human rights for women. Australia responded by suspending all bilateral commitments with Afghanistan.

Cricket Australia’s first major move came in November 2021 when it cancelled a historic one-off Test match in Hobart, which would have been Afghanistan’s first Test against Australia.

In January 2023, Australia also withdrew from a three-match ODI series scheduled in the UAE, citing concerns over women’s rights under Taliban rule.

In an official statement at the time, Cricket Australia said it supports the participation of women in all forms of cricket and cannot proceed with fixtures when those values are not upheld.

The ICC has also faced pressure to take a stronger stance, though Afghanistan retains its full-member status because the ICC constitution does not allow suspension of a board due to political circumstances beyond its control.

Despite these complications, the Afghanistan men’s team has continued to rise. The side reached the Super 12 stage of the 2022 T20 World Cup and made headlines at the 2023 ODI World Cup after defeating England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

Under captain Hashmatullah Shahidi and with stars like Rashid Khan, Ibrahim Zadran, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the team has become one of the most competitive emerging sides in international cricket.

Asadullah Khan believes that punishing the men’s team for issues beyond their control is unjust. He said the players only want to play cricket and compete at the highest level.
