    Kapoor family hosts a starry baby shower for Alia Bhatt

    Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor are soon going to enter a new phase of parenthood. They will be welcoming their first bundle of joy later this year. Today, on Dussehra Bhatt’s baby shower was held at her and Ranbir’s new home, Vastu.

    The intimate ceremony was attended by their family members including Neetu Kapoor, Soni Razdan, Karisma Kapoor, and a few close friends. Earlier, in the day everyone was seen arriving for the function. And now the inside pictures have started coming in.


    From Neetu Kapoor to Soni Razdan, everyone took to their social handles and shared the photos from Alia’s baby shower. Ranbir Kapoor’s sister, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni also shared photos with the couple on her Instagram handle. On the other hand, Alia’s friend Anushka Ranjan posted a photo with Alia and her girl gang. Ranbir posed for a selfie with his family members- Rima Jain, Karisma Kapoor and mother Neetu Kapoor. Mahesh Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt, too, marked their presence.

    Alia looked like a ray of sunshine in an all-yellow attire. She donned a bright yellow suit and a yellow dupatta with a golden border. She left her hair open and wore a golden chocker necklace and maang tika with minimal makeup. Alia completed her look with golden flats.

    ADB to provide up to $2.5 billion under flood relief support to Pakistan

    The Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced on Wednesday that it would provide support of $2.3–2.5 billion for relief efforts in the wake of disastrous floods that have left Pakistan severely damaged.

    The declaration was made during a meeting between Pakistan’s ADB Country Director Yong Ye and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, as per a press release from the Finance Division.

    Ye offered his condolences for the loss of life and property as a result of the floods during the meeting and congratulated Dar on taking office.

    According to Dawn, the Balochistan Rural Development and Community Empowerment Programme would receive $1.5 billion of the promised aid, according to the ADB country director, and the request will be presented to the bank’s board this month.

    According to a press release, it was discussed that the Country Partnership Strategy for Pakistan 2021–25 is in accordance with the government of Pakistan’s vision.

    The finance minister was quoted as saying that he welcomed the delegation and valued ADB’s assistance in advancing sustainable development in the nation. Dar also informed the delegation of the flood’s damages and financial consequences.

    The administration had stopped the economy’s slide and put it on the correct course with its “pragmatic policy initiatives,” he continued while acknowledging that the economy still faced enormous obstacles.

    The finance minister also gave the ADB team an overview of the government’s priorities.

    Dar hailed the ADB delegation for their steadfast support and assured them of full government cooperation for the expeditious implementation of the current and new programmes.

    Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, has revealed that the process for the appointment of a new Chief of Army Staff (COAS) will either start by the end of this month or the beginning of the next and that it will be done in line with the law and constitution.

    In a press conference on Wednesday (today), the minister stressed that it is the discretion of the sitting prime minister to pick any name which has been recommended by GHQ (General Headquarters).

    He stated that anyone from among the five nominated names could be appointed as the next chief of army staff. However, he pointed out that in the past, names other than the five suggested have also been chosen for the military chief’s position.

    Speaking about the appointment of the army chief on the basis of seniority, the defence minister said: “All three-star generals are eligible for this post”.

    During the conference, the minister said that the army is currently fighting against terrorism and the nation should support it.

    Taking a jibe at PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s apprehension over the appointment of COAS, Asif said that he is anxious as November is approaching.

    The present COAS, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, will be completing his extended term in November this year. He was appointed to this position in 2016.

    Recently, COAS Bajwa — who is currently in the US— reiterated his promise to leave office after completing his second three-year term in November.

    Former Director-General (DG) Federal Investigations Agency (FIA), Bashir Memon, has confirmed the claims made by a hacker that he was locked in a washroom on then-Prime Minister Imran Khan’s orders.

    The hacker, in a series of tweets which have now been deleted, shared details of the meeting between Memon and Khan on Monday. The hacker tweeted that Memon was locked in the washroom on Khan’s orders.

    Memon, responding to the claims, confirmed the details on Channel 24, saying the former premier used abusive language, and insulted Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz which made him angry and he responded harshly.

    At this, Memon added, the then-Principle Secretary to the PM, Azam Khan, grabbed his hand, took him out of the room and locked him in the washroom.

    “Azam Khan then scolded me over my conduct with the prime minister” said Memon.

    Following the government’s decision to lower the price of petroleum products, Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Aisha Ghaus Pasha gave the assurance that Pakistan had not violated any of the terms set forth by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

    According to Geo, there have been numerous rumours surrounding the future of the IMF contract ever since Finance Minister Ishaq Dar cut the price of gasoline last week.

    Since he was sworn in, Dar and his predecessor Miftah Ismail were unable to cooperate because they held divergent views on the IMF agreement and the gradual elimination of gasoline subsidies.

    Pasha responded to the worries by stating that Pakistan had some margin, which the government utilised to relieve the people by lowering the price of gasoline by Rs12.63 per litre.

    She said that the government is still committed to the IMF programme and intends to provide relief to the flood hit masses without tampering IMF conditions.

    Moreover, she said that the government officials are scheduled to meet IMF representatives this month and both sides will discuss things in detail.

    Speaking of the rupee-dollar controversy, she said that the central bank is investigating eight known banks in this issue regarding the banks involved in currency manipulation. Strict action will be taken against any bank found guilty according to Pasha.

    Earlier, the Senate Standing Committee on Finance had summoned the representatives of eight commercial banks that were issued show-cause notices by the central bank on suspicion of currency manipulation.

    Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) long march will not be allowed to enter the federal capital under any circumstances, revealing that the federal government has devised a comprehensive strategy to deal with any scenario.

    Taunting PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Sanaullah tweeted, “If you come, don’t hide. Try and storm Islamabad. I also promise you.”

    Responding to Sanaullah, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry tweeted, “Punch according to your weight. The stick you are wielding can go through and through.”

    On October 4, Khan asked his party leaders and workers to take an oath that they will participate in the long march, terming it a “jihad”
    for the country. However, he did not specify any date for the march.

    It was decided that the Pakistan Army, under Article 245 of the Constitution, will secure public buildings and the Diplomatic Enclave in the Red Zone.

    Sanaullah said the long march would not be allowed to enter the federal capital at any cost. He also authorised relevant departments to take action against individuals and organisations providing logistical and financial support to the PTI for the march.

    Horrifying report reveals incidents of rape, sexual abuse in Attock Jail

    The Provincial Intelligence Centre (PIC) has in a report accused several staff members at the Attock district jail of raping and harassing female visitors and prisoners.

    On September 30, PIC filed the report to Inspector General of Prisons, Mirza Shahid Saleem Baig, after conducting a covert investigation into the operations of the district jail.


    “A girl who visits the jail to see one of the inmates supplies drugs to the prisoners. A pack of charas worth Rs500 outside is sold for Rs3,000 to Rs3,500 inside the prison,” the report has stated.

    “Powerful mafias of drug peddlers have deep roots inside the jail with the support of jail administration and are making unchecked profit by selling contraband. And they also pay due share to the jail management,” the report said, adding that influential visitors are frequently given permission to meet face-to-face in the DSP’s (Deputy Superintendent of Police) room in exchange for a bribe of up to Rs. 10,000. Additionally, after paying bribes, inmates are permitted to order food from outside.

    The report recommended that jail workers who had been found guilty of breaking the rules of the jail manual or of engaging in acts of sexual harassment, corruption, or torture be disciplined.

    The damning report also suggested that female staff members should be the only ones in charge of handling female visitors to the jail in order to protect their privacy and dignity.

    “This is quite disturbing and can lead to a scandal that will reflect poorly on the Punjab administration,” read the report.
    PIC has ordered a high-level investigation into this matter.

    Putting months of speculation to rest, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has reiterated his promise to leave office after completing his second three-year term in November, adding that he would fulfil the pledge he made earlier.

    The army chief made these remarks at a lunch at the Pakistan Embassy in Washington.

    The COAS also stated that the armed forces have distanced themselves from politics and want to stay out of it in the future as well.

    “There can be no diplomacy without a strong economy,” said the army chief stressing that restoration of the ailing economy of the country should be the priority of every stakeholder of the society.

    After the lunch, Gen Bajwa went to the Pentagon for a meeting with US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin.

    According to the ISPR, Gen Bajwa called on retired General Lloyd James Austin III, Secretary of Defence; Jacob Jeremiah Sullivan, National Security Adviser; and Wendy Ruth Sherman, Deputy Secretary of State.

    The army chief arrived in the US on September 30 and met with UN officials in New York.

    General Bajwa is heading a delegation that will stay in the US for another couple of days, diplomatic sources said, terming the visit an important one that portrayed “robust relations” between the two countries.

    Up to 4,000 dengue cases of dengue have been reported in Balochistan over the past five months, Syed Ali Shah has reported for Express Tribune.


    Flood victims across the country have been in the grip of a variety of mosquito and waterborne diseases as Balochistan has reported over 4,000 dengue cases over the past five months.


    Lasbela, Kech, Gwadar, and Panjgur districts reported the majority of the cases.


    Around 250 dengue cases have been detected over the past several days from various locations in Balochistan, a health official said.
    To limit the spread of dengue and malaria, Abdul Aziz Uqaili, Chief Secretary of Balochistan, has ordered the authorities to spray repellent fog in the afflicted districts.

    8 prominent banks under investigation for involvement in exchange rate manipulation: SBP

    On Tuesday, Jameel Ahmad, the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), told the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue that inquiries had been initiated against eight banks for their alleged involvement in exchange rate manipulation.

    According to Ahmad, the first part of the investigation focused on Bank Al Habib, Habib Bank Limited (HBL), National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), Meezan Bank Limited, United Bank Limited (UBL), Allied Bank Limited (ABL), and Standard Chartered. The name of eighth bank was not disclosed.

    He told the tribunal that ABL, NBP, and Standard Chartered had each received show-cause warnings. The governor continued by saying that in the following stage, the other banks will be looked into.

    The committee’s chairman, MNA Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh, gave SBP instructions to take the proper action against all banks and exchange firms implicated in the manipulation of the currency rate during today’s meeting.

    According to a news release from the National Assembly Secretariat, he requested that the central bank assess the severity of the violations by both parties and take the necessary action to ensure that nobody “has the audacity to play with the economy of the country.”

    According to Dawn, the committee believed that the banks made enormous profits during the recent volatility in the exchange rate and the differential between the interbank rate and the rate provided by exchange providers.

    Ahmad has told the committee that after the investigation is complete, anyone who violated the rules will be punished.

    Members of the Committee, the Secretary of Finance, the Chairman of the FBR, the Governor of the State Bank, and other senior executives from the relevant agencies attended the meeting of the Committee.

    Prior to this, Dawn claimed that banks had quadrupled their purchases of US money and were using credit cards to move it outside as the government struggled to stop dollar withdrawals.

    In a media interview the next week, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar declared that manipulating the exchange rate would not be permitted.

    Dar stated that the rupee is now not in the proper position and added that he was aware of some speculators who were playing this game and advised them to quit right away.
