Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that he has had enough of the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) “cabal of crooks” who are trying to launch propaganda against him.

Khan on September 4, alleged that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and Zardari wanted to appoint their favourite as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) because if a “strong and patriotic army chief” was appointed, they would be questioned about their corruption.

In a tweet, the PTI chairman said, “Am following intense propaganda launched by PDM cabal of crooks against me.This stems from their being petrified of PTI’s soaring popularity.”

“Today in Peshawar jalsa I will give proper reply to all those who have deliberately been distorting my words to malign me. Enough is enough,” said Khan.

Floods damage Mohenjo Daro, site may be withdrawn from world heritage list

The department of archaeology has asked for immediate attention to conservation and restoration work at Mohenjo Daro, fearing that if such work is not taken up immediately, the site may be withdrawn from the World Heritage list.

From August 16 to 26, the archaeological ruins of Mohenjo Daro received record rains of 779.5mm. It caused significant damage to the site and the partial collapse of several structures, including the stupa dome’s protective wall.

It caused significant damage to the site and the partial collapse of several structures, including the stupa dome’s protective wall.

The curator of the site wrote a letter to the director of culture, antiquities and archaeology on Aug 29 about the condition of the heritage site. “We have put in efforts to protect the site with our resources,” it read.

Rainwater from neighbouring agricultural lands had flooded the disposal channel due to neglect of the negligence of different departments including irrigation, roads, highways and forest.

“The archaeology official had called for immediate contact with the irrigation and roads departments for the repair of the bund, breached canal dykes and removal of pipes.”

The curator has proposed sending experts (conservators and engineers) to assess the damage caused by the downpours. Archaeology officials stationed at Mohenjo Daro are currently repairing the structures that have been damaged.

Pakistan is experiencing one of the worst floods in its history. In the last 24 hours, 11 more deaths have occurred, which has taken the death toll to 1,325. More than 1/3 of the country is inundated with millions displaced from their homes.

ITP fines nearly 2,000 vehicles for using pressure horns

In the previous three months, 3,767 vehicles have been fined by the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) for using pressure horns and polluting the environment in the federal capital.

According to a police spokesman, about 1,981 vehicles with pressure horns and 1,786 smoke-emitting vehicles were fined as a result of the ICTP’s stepped-up environmental enforcement.

Action has been started against those cars involved in environmental pollution, as instructed by the DIG of Police (Ops). He instructed ICTP to step up campaigns against smoke-emitting automobiles in order to protect the environment.

All Zonal DSPs have been instructed to take harsh action against any cars that contribute to environmental pollution, and the SSP (Traffic) is personally overseeing these initiatives.

To carry out the fight against smoke-emitting cars, ITP has organised mobile squads. These teams conduct patrols in various locations and issue fines to the drivers of noisy and smoke-emitting cars.

The ITP is also working to stop smoke-emitting vehicles, and special squads are working to stop environmental pollution. The goal of these operations is not to punish individuals, but rather to ensure road safety and discipline by encouraging law-abiding behaviour on the part of the populace.

According to the DIG (Ops) Islamabad’s instructions, special ITP squads have been established to regularly monitor and fine vehicles that contribute to noise pollution or other types of environmental pollution in the city.

‘Imran Khan apne bayaan ki khud wazahat karein ke in ka kya maqsad tha’: President Alvi

President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi has said that the chairman of his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan “apne bayaan ki khud wazahat karey ke in ka kya maqsad tha”. (Imran Khan should himself clarify what he meant.)

While talking to media at Governor House in Peshawar, Alvi stressed that all soldiers including the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) are patriots. He said that Pakistan Army is busy in helping flood affectees of the country and no one can doubt their patriotism.

“Including the incumbent government, every institution is patriotic”, the President added.

Alvi claimed that he is trying to clear all the misunderstandings between the stakeholders.

Addressing a jalsa in Faislabad on Sunday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan alleged that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari wanted to appoint their favourite as COAS because if a “strong and patriotic army chief” was appointed, they would be questioned about their corruption.

“The army chief of this country should be appointed on merit. The one who is on merit should become the next army chief,” said Khan.

It is pertinent to mention that Khan drew fire from government leaders over his remarks about the appointment of the next chief of army staff. PTI leaders have been trying to clarify their chairman’s remarks.

Former Human Rights Minister and PTI leader Shireen Mazari called Nawaz and Zardari “criminals”. She said, “Chairman PTI’s statement was about merit & merit in the selection of COAS cannot be made by two criminals whose only priority is to save their billions stashed abroad and who have zero credibility. Remember DawnLeaks & Memogate?”

Fawad Chaudhry denied the fact that Khan called the army unpatriotic.

He said, “As far as I remember, Imran Khan did not mention unpatriotic, every general and Pakistani citizen is a patriot. Imran Khan talked about appointment on merit. Anyway, this is a political matter, not a judicial one. Commenting on the topic is inappropriate.”

Irked by Imran Khan’s recent remarks about the appointment of a new COAS, the Chief Justice (CJ) of Islamabad High Court (IHC) Athar Minallah minced no words.

“Did you hear Imran Khan’s speech from yesterday,” the Chief Justice asked the former prime minister’s lawyer on Monday. “Do political leaders deliver such speeches? Will everything be put at stake just for the sake of “game of thrones?” The honourable judge asked during the hearing of a petition filed by the PTI against a ban imposed by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on the live telecast of the speeches of Khan.

Pakistani Army also expressed extreme displeasure over Imran Khan’s recent statement against the establishment and said that the institution was “aghast” over it.

  • Majority of property owners in London are Indians, followed by English and Pakistani people

Majority of property owners in London are Indians, followed by English and Pakistani people

Indians are among the people who own the most real estate in the capital of the United Kingdom (UK), London, more than the English themselves.

According to London-based residential developer Barratt London, the largest group of property owners in London are Indians, who are represented by those who have lived in the UK for generations, NRIs, investors from other countries, students, and families who travel to the UK for education. English and Pakistani people are next in number.

These Indian investors, who reside in both the UK and India, are prepared to spend anywhere between GBP 290,000 and GBP 450,000 for a one, two, or three-bedroom property in London, the nation’s capital.

“We are seeing a strong demand from Indian investors looking to purchase properties in London and invest in the stable and long-term property market. Outside of London, most of our products are sold to UK residential buyers, who buy these properties and live in them,” Stuart Leslie – International Sales and Marketing Director for Barratt London, told Financial Express.

In London, 30 per cent of sales are made to pure investors (those who want to use the apartments as rentals), and 30 per cent of those buyers come from foreign markets.

“This year we have seen a growth in the percentage of Indian homebuyers, who make up 7-8 per cent of the overseas market players. We are really reacting to where the demand is coming from rather than speculating and looking for business,” Stuart Leslie said.

According to a Knight Frank survey, 10 per cent of India’s UHNWIs intend to purchase a new home in 2022, and they prefer to invest in domestic real estate, followed by homes on the UK, UAE, and US foreign markets.

London is well-liked by Indian investors and homebuyers because it is a hub for finance and education and one of the major international entry points for investors.

Additionally, it makes sense for Indian homebuyers to look at the real estate market in London given that the cost per square foot is roughly comparable between London and Mumbai and that the two cities also share a similar legal framework, making transactions simpler.

“The reason why Indians are comfortable with buying property is because of the market fundamentals and confidence along with a history of Indians investing in houses in London. They’re eager to invest in the UK residential markets because they are getting better returns owing to the exchange rates and market presence presently. It is relatively a safer market in comparison to the UAE or India,” he said.

In addition to being a “stable market” for residential real estate, the UK has advantages over other international potential markets, such as good weather and quicker travel times.

Many families and students, especially those from India, relocate to the UK for educational opportunities. According to Stuart Leslie, the number of Indian students applying to UK colleges and universities has surged by 128 per cent in just one year.

Therefore, there are several reasons why Indians have traditionally preferred to invest in the UK, including the country’s high-quality educational institutions, business-friendly environment, cosmopolitan mindset, language familiarity, and expanding investment opportunities.

Currently, there is a demand for finished or nearly finished projects since people are looking to move quickly after the pandemic. Barratt London’s common price range for real estate is between GBP 390,000 and GBP 450,000.

“This is not a price which people normally associate with the London market but with tier-II or tier-III cities. This makes people want to own properties in London rather than smaller cities of the UK,” he said.

Justice Minallah questions whether Khan will put everything at stake for ‘game of thrones’

Irked by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s recent remarks about the appointment of a new Chief of Army Staff (COAS), the Chief Justice (CJ) of Islamabad High Court (IHC) Athar Minallah minced no words.

“Did you hear Imran Khan’s speech from yesterday,” the Chief Justice asked the former prime minister’s lawyer on Monday. “Do political leaders deliver such speeches? Will everything be put at stake just for the sake of “game of thrones’?” The honourable judge asked during the hearing of a petition filed by the PTI against a ban imposed by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on the live telecast of the speeches of Khan.

Khan on Sunday said that the government is buying time to “appoint an army chief of their own choice.” He alleged that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari wanted to appoint their favourite as COAS because if a “strong and patriotic army chief” came, they would be questioned about their corruption.

At today’s hearing, PEMRA’s lawyer informed the court that the regulator issued a show-cause notice to delay the airing of Khan’s live speeches. In response, the IHC CJ asked why the regulator did not ensure that the rule of delaying live speeches was followed.

The media watchdog’s lawyer said that PEMRA’s orders were not aimed at a particular person.

The court, addressing PTI’s lawyer, Barrister Ali Zafar, remarked “Let’s not make things difficult as your client also made irresponsible statements.”

Justice Minallah said that the armed forces personnel were getting martyred “and you [Imran] are bringing their morale down”.

He also asked the PTI counsel as to why [his party] was harming constitutional institutions. “You will only invite difficulties as a result of your statements,” he observed.

IHC CJ Minallah said that the armed forces lay their lives for the nation and in case someone is involved in illegal activity, everyone should not be criticised over it.

“Hold yourself accountable for your actions. You [Khan] want to issue statements as per your wishes and don’t want the regulator to do its job,” the CJ said.

Meanwhile, the IHC ordered PEMRA to regulate in light of Supreme Court of Pakistan’s verdict and wrapped up Imran Khan’s application.

On August 29 IHC suspended PEMRA’s recent notification that banned television channels from airing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s live speeches.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah suspended the notification till September 5 after hearing the arguments and issued notices to the regulatory authority and Attorney-General of Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf Ali.

FACT CHECK: Did a UK couple name their baby ‘Pakora’ for real?

Claim: A couple in the United Kingdom named their baby ‘Pakora’.

Fact: No, the couple did not name their baby Pakora. The incident was a joke made by the owner of a restaurant.

News reports have been making rounds on social media about a UK couple naming their baby after the desi fried snack Pakora (fritters). The unusual news is being widely talked about on social media, generating a lot of mirth and decisive views.

The Captain’s Table, a restaurant in Newtownabbey, Ireland, took to Facebook to share the news. The eatery shared the receipt of an order placed by the UK couple and also a picture of the baby girl born on August 24.

“My wife has just called our newborn daughter Pakora after her fav dish from The Captain’s Table,” read the note.

However, the owner of the restaurant, Hilary Braniff, later clarified that the post was only a joke. She made the story up to “bring a little cheer to the industry” which is reeling under the rising costs and increasing energy bills.

Braniff claimed that she just wanted to share the post and brighten up people’s day.

The girl in the picture is the granddaughter of the restaurant owner, and her name is Grace. “I just thought I would do a post – my two favourite things in the world are chicken pakora and my baby granddaughter. I thought I would combine the two things for a bit of fun really,” she said.
