Muslim students protest over hijab ban in Indian college continues

Muslim students are continuing to protest outside their college gate on Friday after they were barred from entering the premises for wearing a hijab. The college is located in Karnataka state, India.

Police arrived at the protest after hundreds of students joined the sit-in protest and demanded that the girls be allowed to enter the college.

They were chanting, “We want Education”.

Parents of the students also joined and questioned college authorities on sending their children out of school and making them stand on the road for wearing a hijab. However, college authorities claim that they have to follow the orders from the government.

The management claims that if they allow hijab on their campus then other Hindu students would take saffron shawls and religious symbolism is not permitted in the educational institute.

Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said that religion should be kept away from education and students should neither come wearing hijab or saffron shawls to schools.

On Thursday, the principal of the college closed the gate for students wearing hijab. This incident happened after some Hindu students in saffron shawls were stopped at the gate as well.

They were raising slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

Another government college in Karnataka has banned the hijab and saffron scarves over rising tension fears.

  • VIDEO: Reporter asks Biden’s spokesperson to show ‘evidence’ that Russia is starting a war in Ukraine

VIDEO: Reporter asks Biden’s spokesperson to show ‘evidence’ that Russia is starting a war in Ukraine

United States (US) State Department Spokesperson Ned Price was questioned by Associated Press (AP) reporter Matt Lee about the evidence behind US officials’ belief that Russia intended to release an elaborate propaganda video on Ukraine in order to justify beginning a war.

A heated argument between the two [Price and Lee] can be heard in a video. Lee demanded Price to show the evidence to which he responded by saying that the information came from US intelligence, thus is classified.

“Okay, well, where is it? Where is this information?” Lee asked. Price responded by asking Lee if he would want a printed-out transcript of the briefing.

“That’s not evidence, that’s you saying it. I would like to see some proof that shows that the Russians are doing that,” Lee continued the argument.

Following the press briefing, Price said that he and Lee have had their fair share of sparring sessions. “Nothing but respect for him, which I underscored in a call to him after the briefing,” he added.

Russia has long resisted Ukraine’s move towards European institutions, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) as it shares a border with Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky have denied the news of an invasion. However, the US argued that Russia has no explanation for the troops posted close to Ukraine.

‘Pakistan is our strategic partner’: US responds to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks

The United States (US) has responded to Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in the Indian parliament, Lok Sabha, that the policies adopted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi have brought Pakistan and China closer.

The US State Department spokesperson Ned Price refused to “endorse” such a statement on Washington’s behalf and said, “Pakistan is our strategic partner.”

“I’ll let Pakistanis and the PRC (People’s Republic of China) speak for themselves about their relationship. These remarks will certainly not be endorsed by me,” Price said during a regular press briefing.

The US said it values its relationship with Pakistan while emphasising that there was no requirement, as far as Washington was concerned, for other countries to choose between the US and China.

“We’ve made the point all along that it is not a requirement for any country around the world to choose between the United States and China,” Ned Price told reporters when asked if Pakistan and China have become closer because “they feel abandoned” by the US.

Rahul, while speaking in Lok Sabha on the Motion of Thanks on President’s address during the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament on Wednesday, said, “India’s single most important strategic goal has been to keep China and Pakistan apart but what you have done has only brought them together.”

  • Teen monitoring Elon Musk’s jet, demands Tesla car in negotiation with Musk, tracks others too

Teen monitoring Elon Musk’s jet, demands Tesla car in negotiation with Musk, tracks others too

A Florida teenager is demanding that billionaire Elon Musk hand over $50,000 to stop him tweeting the location of the billionaire’s private jet. He also said he is creating dozens more accounts tracking the movements of other rich and famous people.

Jack Sweeney, a 19-year-old college student and aviation enthusiast, said he had created 16 automated Twitter accounts, or bots, similar to @ElonJet to follow jets owned by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates (@GatesJet), Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, the billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban and the rapper Drake.

    https://twitter.com/ElonJet/status/1488578153094303758?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1488578153094303758%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theguardian.com%2Ftechnology%2F2022%2Ffeb%2F02%2Fteen-tracking-elon-musk-jet-bill-gates-jeff-bezos-drake-jack-sweeney-tesla-flight-tracker-bot

In an interview with the Guardian, Sweeney said he had also created a website, Ground Control, to “monetise” the service by offering bespoke tracking services to celebrities’ superfans and to host web versions of the Twitter bots if the microblogging site closes his accounts because of privacy concerns raised by the subjects.

“They’re either really prominent people or just like really interesting,” Sweeney said of the people he tracks. “Lately I have been adding people that [his followers] have requested.”

Recent accounts he has set up after requests include Cuban and Drake, who he said was the most interesting.

“He has the biggest plane out of all of them, it is a giant Boeing.”

The rapper’s plane, Air Drake, is a $185m 59ft-long Boeing 767-200ER that can carry 216 passengers.

Sweeney, who created @ElonJet in June 2020, said he hoped Musk would reopen negotiations to buy and close down the account. The co-founder and chief executive of Tesla has refused the teenager’s demand for $50,000.

Musk, the world’s richest person with an estimated $220bn fortune, has urged Sweeney to delete the account.

“Can you take this down? It is a security risk,” Musk, wrote in a direct message to the teenager. “I don’t love the idea of being shot by a nutcase.”

    https://twitter.com/GatesJets/status/1488334361502044162?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1488334361502044162%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theguardian.com%2Ftechnology%2F2022%2Ffeb%2F02%2Fteen-tracking-elon-musk-jet-bill-gates-jeff-bezos-drake-jack-sweeney-tesla-flight-tracker-bot

Sweeney said receiving the direct message from Musk, whom he described as his idol, was a surreal experience. “I was just about to go to sleep actually, and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh Elon just messaged me to take down my account’,” he said. “It was insane.”

“And then he offers me $5,000 to make it harder for people to track him and to take down the account, and I make my counter-offer.”

Sweeney attempted to negotiate with Musk, replying: “Any chance to up that to $50K? It would be great support in college and would possibly allow me to get a car, maybe even a [Tesla] Model 3.”

Musk later said he did not feel comfortable paying anything. Sweeney replied that if Musk did not want to pay, he would delete the account in return for an internship at Tesla.

“That was the last thing I said [to Musk],” Sweeney said. “And then he blocked me.”
