England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Chairman, Ian Watmore, resigned earlier in the day after increasing pressure since the cancellation of England’s tour to Pakistan, The Times had reported.

“The earlier tweet was erroneously put on my Twitter account. Apologies,” Raja said, who had given strong remarks after England had decided to cancel their tour of Pakistan following New Zealand’s pull out.

England’s men and women teams were due to play two Twenty20s in Rawalpindi on October 13 and 14. The women’s team were also due to play three ODIs in Pakistan on October 17, 19, and 21.

In his now-deleted tweet, Raja shared the news of ECB chief’s resignation as a breaking news.

Tweeple were not happy with him for expressing his views as the Chairman of PCB.

Journalists Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov win 2021 Nobel Peace Prize

The Nobel Peace Prize 2021 has been awarded to journalists Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression in the Philippines and Russia.

“Free, independent, and fact-based journalism serve to protect against abuse of power, lies, and war propaganda,” Berit Reiss-Andersen, chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, said as she announced the prize in Oslo on Friday.

“Without freedom of expression and freedom of the press, it will be difficult to successfully promote fraternity between nations, disarmament, and a better world order to succeed in our time.”

“Maria Ressa uses freedom of expression to expose abuse of power, use of violence, and growing authoritarianism in her native country, the Philippines,” said Andersen.

” Dmitry has four decades defended freedom of speech in Russia under increasingly challenging conditions,” announced Andersen.

Ressa is the CEO of Rappler, a news outlet critical of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s regime, while Muratov heads the independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta. Ressa becomes the first woman to be awarded a Nobel Prize this year.

It is the 102nd time the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded. Previous winners include Malala Yousafzai, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Jr, Polish dissident Lech Walesa, United Nations World Food Programme, the Soviet Union’s last leader Mikhail Gorbachev, and four US presidents.

  • Andy Murray reveals why he was in his wife’s ‘bad books’ after his tennis shoes were stolen

Andy Murray reveals why he was in his wife’s ‘bad books’ after his tennis shoes were stolen

British tennis star Andy Murray is preparing to play at Indian Wells in California for the first time since 2017, where he was granted a wildcard to compete.

But he ended up issuing a video appeal to his followers from his hotel room following the “terrible idea” to leave his damp and sweaty tennis shoes under his car to dry overnight, forgetting his wedding ring was tied to the shoelaces.

Murray, 34, explained he left the shoes underneath his car to dry out overnight so they wouldn’t “stink the room out” but they had vanished upon his return in the morning.

It was only when his physio asked why he wasn’t wearing his wedding ring that he realised he had left it tied to his shoes.

“Last night after dinner I got back in the car to go back to the hotel and the car didn’t smell great,” Murray explained in an Instagram video.

“Basically, I’d left my tennis shoes in there. It’s been 39 degrees so my tennis shoes are pretty damp, sweaty. So I decided when I got back to the hotel that the shoes needed some air, I needed to dry them out a little bit.”

“I have no balcony in my room and I didn’t want to leave them in my room as it would stink the room out. So I thought I’m going to leave the shoes underneath the car, to get some air to them and dry them out overnight.”

Murray, who has been married to wife Kim since 2015, continued: “Anyway, when I got back to the car in the morning, the shoes were gone. So my tennis shoes for the tournament had been stolen, so I had to go to the local pro shop and buy different shoes, different brand, which isn’t the end of the world, but obviously not ideal.”

“But as I was preparing for my practice, my physio said to me: ‘Where’s your wedding ring?’”

“And I thought: ‘Oh no!’ I basically tie my wedding ring to my tennis shoes while I’m playing because I can’t play with it on my hand.”

“So, yeah…my wedding ring’s been stolen as well. Needless to say, I’m in the bad books at home, so I want to try to find it.”

The former world number one asked his fans to share his video message to “get to the bottom of it”.

Meanwhile, he shared another post with his shoe and the wedding ring tied to it, saying that it still stinks but he is back in the good books of his wife.

  • ‘We don’t see ourselves building our broad relationship with Pakistan’: US Deputy Secretary of State

‘We don’t see ourselves building our broad relationship with Pakistan’: US Deputy Secretary of State

United States (US) Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, while speaking at an event in Mumbai, said, “We (the US) don’t see ourselves building our broad relationship with Pakistan and we have no interest in returning to the days of a hyphenated India, Pakistan. That’s not where we are, that’s not where we are going to be,” reports The Print.

“But we all need to know what’s going on in Afghanistan. We all need to be of one mind in the approach to the Taliban. We all need to make sure that we have the capabilities that we need to ensure everybody’s security, including India’s, of course. So I am going to have some very specific conversations, continuing conversations that Secretary (Antony) Blinken has had (with Pakistan),” she added.

Wendy Sherman is in Pakistan to meet officials during her October 7-8 visit.

Sherman said that her trip to Islamabad is only for a “specific and narrow purpose”.

Taking to Twitter, Sherman wrote, “I met yesterday evening with Pakistani National Security Advisor, Moeed Yusuf to discuss Afghanistan and areas of cooperation in the U.S.-Pakistan relationship.”

    https://twitter.com/deputysecstate/status/1446361767932801039?s=21

Ahead of her visit to Pakistan, Sherman told reporters, “We seek a strong partnership with Pakistan on counterterrorism and we expect sustained action against all militant and terrorist groups without distinction.”

“Both of our countries have suffered terribly from the scourge of terrorism and we look forward to cooperative efforts to eliminate all regional and global terrorist threats,” she said.

Educational activities across the country will resume from Monday (October 11) next week. Due to Covid, educational activities across the country were affected for over a year.

“Based on the reduced level of disease spread and the launch of the school vaccination program, it has been decided in today’s NCOC meeting to allow all educational institutions to start normal classes from Monday the 11th of October” tweeted Umar.

The country reported less than 1,000 daily coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours for the first time in over three months.
