  • You can now buy viral Chand Nawab video meme

    The video that went viral in 2008 featuring a local reporter, Chand Nawab has been put up for auction as a Non-Fungible Token (NFT), on a website named Foundation.

    The reserve price for the video on the website is $64,756.60 (around Rs10,787,763.14).

    “I’m Chand Nawab, a journalist and reporter by profession. In 2008, a video of me surfaced on YouTube in which I fumbled while reporting Eid Festival frenzy at a Railway station. While reporting, I was contently interrupted by people, my fumbling and constant irritation made this video viral getting millions of views on YouTube and Facebook,” wrote Nawab while explaining what the video meme was about.

    “My popularity again surged in 2016 when my viral video inspired Indian film maker Kabir Khan to create Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s character in his 2015 blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan,” he added.

    Earlier this month, the ‘Friendship ended with Mudasir’ meme, which went viral in 2015, was auctioned off as a Non-Fungible Token for $51,530 (roughly Rs8,491,427.73). The sale was concluded on the online platform Foundation, which facilitates live auctions for NFTs.

  • Govt announces fee for Covid vaccine booster shot

    The federal government on Saturday announced to administer booster Covid vaccine shots for people travelling abroad. The government has decided on a fee of Rs 1,270 for the booster shot that will be submitted at the National Bank of Pakistan, ARY News reported.

    As per reports, the federal government has sent a handout to the provincial governments, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) governments for taking measures in this regard.

    The handout stated that the Covid vaccine shots to those planning to travel abroad would be administered at designated centres in the provinces and federal regions.

    Citizens could get the vaccine shots after showing their valid visa and bank voucher.

    Earlier, it was reported that separate counters would be set up at the vaccination centres, where travellers can receive booster shots of approved Covid vaccines for their destinations.

    The sources further said that those wanting to get the shots had to show the travel documents including a visa and they would be given a certificate for the booster shot to be submitted to the authorities during their foreign trip.

    Actor Yashma Gill has blamed the “400 men” for the mob attack on Ayesha Akram at Minar-e-Pakistan.

    The Pyar Ke Sadqay actor recently appeared on Gup Shup with FUCHSIA and talked about the increasing crimes against women in Pakistan, particularly Ayesha’s mob attack. “Why are we victim blaming the survivor? Those men had the free will to chose between right and wrong and they chose wrong,” stated the actor.

    “She (Ayesha) may have planted some men but some might have the conscience not to do that,” added the Qurban actor.

    She went on to say that some of her co-actresses said that Ayesha must have thought about her dressing before going there, “I stopped them right there and said that if women are to cover themselves then men should also lower their gaze according to Islam.”

    The Alif star further said that nobody can say that she incited men to assault her, one should know whether somebody incites you, try not to be incited by that individual.

    Shahid Afridi advises girls to live life according to the teachings of Islam

    Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has advised girls to live their lives according to the principles of Islam.

    According to a local news agency, this was said by the all-rounder as he visited the Bakhtawar Girls Cadet College in Nawabshah on Wednesday. Afridi was invited to visit the college by its principal Brigadier (Retd) Dr Muhammad Amin, reported Geo News.

    Afridi was accompanied by members of the Tableeghi Jamaat as well during his trip to the college.

    During his visit to the college, Afridi lectured the female cadets on women’s rights in Islam and urged them to adopt Islamic principles in life. He spoke at length about his life as a cricketer and then how he turned towards preaching religion.

    He urged female cadets to study hard but also partake in sports at the same time.

    “Focus on your studies, social media and mobile phones are time wasting tools,” he said.

    Speaking about his life as a cricketer, Afridi said at one point during his career, he thought about leaving the sport as certain captains wanted to end his career.

    “However, I got a lot of help from Islam and Tableegh,” he said.

    While sharing his thoughts on the appointment of the new Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief, Afridi said he expected Ramiz Raja to lead Pakistan cricket in a positive direction.

    Earlier, Geo News reported that Raja has accepted the post of Chairman PCB.

    PCB will elect its 36th chairman on September 13 in Lahore.

    US launches drone attack, killing ‘ISIS-K planner’ in Afghanistan

    The United States announced it carried out a drone attack in eastern Afghanistan against a “planner” of an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant- Khorasan (ISIL/ISIS-K) group, after the attack outside Kabul’s airport that killed at least 175 Afghans and 13 US troops.

    “US military forces conducted an over-the-horizon counterterrorism operation today against an ISIS-K planner,” Captain Bill Urban, spokesperson for the US Central Command, said in a statement.

    “The unmanned airstrike occurred in the Nangarhar province of Afghanistan. Initial indications are that we killed the target. We know of no civilian casualties,” read the statement.

    The announcement did not identify the targeted individual but indicated that this could be the first of many counter-attack at the ISIS-K targets for Thursday’s terrorist attacks at the Kabul airport.

    The ISIS group had claimed responsibility for the attack, the group’s Amaq News Agency said on its Telegram channel.

    US President Joe Biden vowed to retaliate against Thursday’s attack in Kabul, saying that he will hunt down those responsible and make them pay.

    Biden confirmed in a speech from the White House that the bombings were carried out by the Islamic State in Khorasan Province, ISKP (ISIS-K), ISIL’s affiliate in Afghanistan.

    “To those who carried out this attack, as well as anyone who wishes America harm, know this: We will not forgive; we will not forget,” Biden said.

    “We will hunt you down and make you pay. I will defend our interests in our people with every measure at my command.”

  • No vaccine, no motorway

    The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) have decided that after September 15, unvaccinated people will not be allowed to travel via motorway.

    Amid the current fourth wave of Covid-19, the government and its departments have speeded up vaccination efforts across the country.

    The NHMP announced on Thursday that people should “get ready” and “get vaccinated” before September 15 and have their vaccination certificates with them if they want to travel on the motorway.

    Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar along with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Faisal Sultan announced the new restrictions for unvaccinated people.

    Umar said that a single dose of vaccine is necessary for travelling on the motorway after September 15. He added that after October, no one will be allowed to use the motorways without vaccination.

    The minister also said that unvaccinated people will not be allowed to use public transport after October 15.

    Earlier, it was also announced that vaccination for domestic air travel will be compulsory after September 30.

    She has now shared a collage of a photo of her daughter-in-law Ayesha Saif and one from her own wedding 29 years ago. Both of them have one person in common: Maryam’s father, Nawaz Sharif.
