  • Pakistan on FATF grey list because of ‘Narendra Modi’s govt’, Pak to take action

Pakistan on FATF grey list because of ‘Narendra Modi’s govt’, Pak to take action

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar admitted that Pakistan is on the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) because of the “efforts of Narendra Modi’s government”.

Jaishankar, while addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal efforts made on forums like G20 or G7 made nations realise that terrorism is everyone’s problem.”

“FATF, as all of you know, keep a check on fundings for terrorism and deals with black money supporting terrorism. Due to us, Pakistan is under the lens of FATF and it was kept [on] the grey list. We have been successful in pressurising Pakistan and the fact that Pakistan’s behaviour has changed is because of pressure put by India by various measures. Also terrorists from LeT and Jaish, India’s efforts through UN, have come under sanctions,” Jaishankar reportedly told the BJP leaders, according to The Print.

The Foreign Office (FO) responded by saying that the Indian foreign minister’s statement that the Modi government had ensured Pakistan remained on the FATF grey list had vindicated Pakistan’s longstanding stance on “India’s negative role” in the global financial watchdog.

“Pakistan has always been highlighting to the international community the politicisation of FATF and undermining of its processes by India. The recent Indian statement is just further corroboration of its continued efforts to use an important technical forum for its narrow political designs against Pakistan,” read the FO statement.

“While Pakistan has been sincerely and constructively engaged with FATF during the implementation of the action plan, India has left no stone unturned in casting doubts on Pakistan’s progress through disgraceful means,” said the FO statement.

“Following the recent confession by [the] Indian government, India’s credentials for assessing Pakistan in FATF as co-chair of the Joint Group or for that matter any other country are subject to questions, which we urge FATF to look into,” the statement said.

On June 25, FATF President Dr Marcus Pleyer said Pakistan would remain on the grey list till it addresses the single remaining item on the original action plan agreed to in June 2018 as well as all items on a parallel action plan handed out by the watchdog’s regional partner — the Asia Pacific Group (APG) — in 2019.

Court temporarily restricts Careem from calling its drivers ‘captains’

A civil court in Rawalpindi has restricted Careem, a private ride-hailing service, from calling its drivers ‘Captains’ after an airline pilot filed a petition against it, reports Dawn.

Labeeb Ahmed, a pilot by profession who filed the complaint, says he has faced “humiliation and disgrace” over sharing his job title with the ride-hailing company’s staff.

Furthermore, he stated that due to this, he felt intimidated and argued that the title of captain should either be reserved for a pilot or an officer of the armed forces.

In his defence, he added that due to this use of the term “captain” for Careem drivers, he has to bear the jokes as people often confuse his job title with Careem captains. This has shattered his confidence very much.

Civil Judge Rawalpindi Rao Ejaz Ahmed Awan restricted Careem for not using this word until the next hearing and ordered the company to submit its response by July 31.

  • Afghanistan calls back ambassador, others after abduction of ambassador’s daughter

Afghanistan on Sunday called back its ambassador and all senior diplomats from Islamabad following the abduction of Ambassador Alikhel’s daughter.

“Following the abduction of the Afghan Ambassador’s daughter in Pakistan, the Leadership of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan called back Afghanistan’s Ambassador and senior diplomats from Pakistan until all security threats are addressed including the arrest and trial of the perpetrators of abduction,” the statement said.

“An Afghan delegation will visit Pakistan soon to assess and follow up on the case and all related issues; subsequent actions will follow based on the findings.”

Pakistan’s Foreign Office reacted to Afghanistan’s decision: “The decision by the Government of Afghanistan to recall its Ambassador and senior diplomats from Pakistan is unfortunate and regrettable,” said the FO.

“The reported abduction and assault of Afghan Ambassador’s daughter are being investigated and followed-up at the highest level on the instructions of PM,” the statement added further.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed has claimed that the Afghan ambassador’s daughter was not abducted and that it is an Indian conspiracy. He was speaking on Geo News’ programme ‘Naya Pakistan’.

Earlier on Sunday, while addressing a press conference, Sheikh Rasheed said that the case will be resolved soon adding, “Afghanistan’s ambassador’s daughter took a cab to Khadda Market for shopping.”

  • ‘I respect all women’: Abdul Razzaq responds to criticism for his comments on Nida Dar

‘I respect all women’: Abdul Razzaq responds to criticism for his comments on Nida Dar

Former cricketer Abdul Razzaq has come up with a clarification note after receiving immense criticism for making sexist comments about women cricketers in general and Nida Dar in particular.

Taking to Twitter, Razzaq shared that he has clarified his position on a phone call with Nida.

“A clip from a TV show has surfaced, highlighting some comments I made towards my fellow cricketer Nida Dar. Although these comments were made in a lighted-hearted way and not to offend anyone, on reflection the choice of words and their presentation was poor and wrong,” he wrote.

“I have subsequently called Nida Dar and clarified my position. I have the utmost respect for all women, especially our women cricketers, who have made great strides in our sport. Nida is our shining star and I hope she continues to make Pakistan proud,” the former all-rounder added.

Razzaq and Nida appeared in G Sarkar with Nauman Ijaz on Neo Tv. During the show, Nida was asked if women athletes always have to leave the sport after marriage.

“Do you have some kind of allergy with marriage? You don’t want to talk about it at all,” the cricketer was asked.

Dar commented, “They try to play the sport as much as they can since you never know after the wedding.”

While intervening in the conversation, Razzaq said women athletes do not marry as they always try to compete with their male counterparts.

“Oh, they don’t get married,” Razzaq said. “Their field is as such. When they become cricketers, they strive to be as equal as their male counterparts, if not better than them. They want to prove that not only men but women can also do it,” said the cricketer.

“The feeling [to get married] is gone [by the time they excel. If you shake her [Dar] hand, she is anything but feminine,” said Razzaq.

  • Restaurant in New York earns the title for the world’s most expensive French fries

On July 13, Serendipity3, a restaurant in Manhattan, earned the title for the world’s most expensive French fries by the Guinness World Records, reports News 18.

Creative Chef, Joe Calderone, and Corporate Executive Chef, Fredrick Schoen-Kiewert of the restaurant teamed up to elevate the classic American food item to present its guests with a unique and delicious culinary experience.

The dish is priced at $200 and includes ingredients like Dom Perignon Champagne, pure cage-free goose fat from France, and J. LeBlanc French Champagne Ardenne Vinegar.

The dish is prepared by blanching the potatoes in Dom Perignon Champagne and J. LeBlanc French Champagne Ardenne Vinegar, which adds a touch of sweetness and acidity to the initial taste. The fries are then cooked in pure goose fat thriceto give the outer layer a crisp and crunchy texture.

The smooth Mornay sauce, which comes with the French fries, is made by melting a large amount of truffle butter in a pan. A pinch of flour is added to make a roux, which is then slowly whisked in the organic A2 100 per cent grass-fed cream from Jersey Cows to thicken the consistency of the sauce.

Apart from the fancy ingredients, the presentation is also kept very aesthetically pleasing. The dish is served up on a Baccarat crystal Arabesque Plate, with a matching bowl to serve the dipping sauce which is made with copious amounts of truffle butter and premium Gruyere cheese.

The fries are served on a crystal plate and the team of chefs garnish the fries with 23-karat edible gold dust.
