Messi’s double goals fire Inter Miami into Leagues Cup final

Lionel Messi scored two late goals to lift Inter Miami to a 3-1 comeback win over Orlando City, booking their place in the Leagues Cup final on Wednesday.

Messi returned after missing two games with a thigh injury and converted a penalty in the 77th minute to make it 1-1. In the 88th minute, he combined with Jordi Alba to score his second and put Miami ahead.

Telasco Segovia added a third goal in stoppage time as Inter Miami advanced to its second consecutive Leagues Cup final. They won the tournament in 2023, Messi’s first season in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Miami will face either the Los Angeles Galaxy or the Seattle Sounders in Sunday’s final. Orlando will play in the third-place game. The top three teams in the tournament will qualify for the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Orlando had taken the lead in first-half stoppage time when Marco Pasalic scored after a deflection inside the box. Inter Miami’s appeals for handball were checked by VAR, but the goal stood.

Orlando looked strong at the start of the second half, but the match changed when Tadeo Allende won a penalty in the 74th minute. David Brekalo fouled Allende and received a second yellow card, leaving Orlando with 10 players. Messi scored the penalty, then added his second goal 11 minutes later, sending the crowd into celebrations.

Orlando had beaten Miami twice earlier this season, including a 4-1 win this month, but Messi’s late heroics ended that streak.

  • KPop Demon Hunters smashes Netflix record, become most-streamed movie ever

KPop Demon Hunters smashes Netflix record, become most-streamed movie ever

The animated hit KPop Demon Hunters has officially become the most-streamed movie in Netflix history, the platform announced.

Released in June, the action-musical follows a fictional K-pop girl group called Huntr/x, whose three members secretly fight demons while performing as pop stars. The movie has been watched more than 236 million times, breaking all previous records on the streaming giant.

This means KPop Demon Hunters has overtaken the 2021 action-comedy Red Notice, starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot, which had 230.9 million views.

The rest of the top five most-streamed films on Netflix include last year’s Carry-On with 172.1 million views, 2021’s Don’t Look Up with 171.4 million views, and 2022’s The Adam Project with 157.6 million views.

The movie’s success is not limited to Netflix. Its soundtrack has also broken records, with four songs, Golden, Your Idol, Soda Pop, and How It’s Done, all reaching the Billboard Top 10 at the same time. This is the first time a soundtrack has achieved this milestone.

Some of the producers behind the soundtrack have previously worked with major K-pop groups like BTS and Twice. The popularity of these songs has made Huntr/x the highest-charting female K-pop group in US Spotify history, even surpassing BLACKPINK.

Netflix has also released a sing-along version of the movie in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. This version became Netflix’s first film to reach number one at the US box office.

With this massive success, talks of a sequel are already underway.

Malir man arrested for raping, strangling brother’s wife

Police in Karachi have arrested a man on Tuesday on charges of raping and murdering his brother’s wife in Malir Cantt.

Reports citing police said that the suspect Ishaq confessed during initial interrogation to assaulting and strangling 30-year-old Sadia, daughter of Hidayatullah. Her body was found inside a house in Haji Zakaria Goth with a noose around her neck.

Police registered a case on the complaint of Sadia’s brother Muhammad, who also nominated her mother-in-law Allah Rakhi, sister-in-law Kausar, Rashid, and younger brother Adil as suspects. The role of Sadia’s husband remains unclear, and police have not disclosed his whereabouts.

Hidayat told police that Sadia had visited his house with her five children and mother-in-law on August 24 to attend a family function. After returning home, he received a call claiming she had committed suicide.

“When I reached the house, I saw her body on the bed with strangulation marks on her neck and injuries on her nose and forehead,” Hidayat said. He alleged that her in-laws were preparing for burial before police arrived at the house.

Hidayat called the police helpline, and the body was shifted to Jinnah Hospital for postmortem. Doctors confirmed Sadia was sexually assaulted and strangled to death, ruling out suicide.

  • Google launches AI Mode in Pakistan

Google launches AI Mode in Pakistan

Google has launched its new AI-powered search feature, “AI Mode,” for users in Pakistan. The tool is a custom version of Gemini 2.5 and offers a smarter, more comprehensive search experience.

AI Mode lets users ask longer and more complex questions that would normally require multiple searches. Google says early tests show searches using this tool are two to three times longer than traditional queries, making it ideal for product comparisons, trip planning, and detailed “how-to” queries.

“It dives deep to answer multiple questions at once, with helpful links for further exploration,” the company said in a statement.

Pakistani users can now access AI Mode through the Google app on Android and iOS, as well as on mobile and desktop versions of Google Search.

The tool allows users to plan trips, find the best places to eat, and explore activities by entering a single prompt. It uses a “query fan-out” technique to break down questions into subtopics and run multiple searches simultaneously.

AI Mode pulls live information from Google’s Knowledge Graph, product databases, and web content to deliver accurate results. If the system detects low confidence in an answer, it switches to classic search results.

Google says AI Mode will provide smarter, more in-depth search results, but admits it’s still a work in progress as the system is in its early stages.

  • Basit Ali slams Mohammad Haris over comment on Babar Azam

Basit Ali slams Mohammad Haris over comment on Babar Azam

Former Pakistan cricketers Basit Ali and Kamran Akmal have strongly criticised young batter Mohammad Haris for suggesting that Babar Azam should change his batting style in T20 cricket.

A viral video recently showed Haris being asked whether Babar Azam should make some adjustments to his style in T20 matches. Haris replied, “Yes.”

This response sparked a heated reaction from Basit Ali during a TV show. Basit said, “If Mohammad Haris says something like this about Babar Azam, he should be beaten with a stick. Who are you to talk about Babar Azam like that?”

He further questioned, “If Babar Azam were the captain, would he [Haris] have given this statement?”

Kamran Akmal, who was also part of the discussion, added that the Pakistan Cricket Board should guide players on how to respond in such situations. He said, “Mohammad Haris is not a kid. He knows everything. He should have said, ‘How can I talk about Babar Azam? He has done so much for Pakistan. First, I need to learn how to improve my own batting.’”

Babar Azam currently averages 39.83 in T20 internationals, scoring 4,223 runs in 121 innings, while Mohammad Haris averages 18.61 with just 391 runs in 23 innings.

  • Thousands evacuated from riverine areas as India opens floodgates

Thousands evacuated from riverine areas as India opens floodgates

Thousands of people have been evacuated from riverine areas of Punjab as the Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers experience “exceptionally high” floods following India’s release of water into Pakistan, officials said Wednesday.

Punjab is currently grappling with an extraordinary flood emergency caused by a mix of heavy rainfall and India’s release of water from at least two dams.

After India opened all gates of major dams on rivers in Held Kashmir following heavy rains, authorities issued an alert for flooding in Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej – that flow into the country from India.

Following the alert, the Punjab government called in the army to assist civil authorities in rescue and relief-related operations in at least eight districts.

Ravi at Jassar is carrying a high flood of 202,200 cusecs, which could rise to 229,700 cusecs. At Shahdara in Lahore, the river is currently flowing at 72,900 cusecs, putting low-lying areas, including Shahdara, Park View and Motorway M-2, at risk of flooding, the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) said.

Rescue teams have evacuated dozens of people trapped in floodwaters in Shakargarh, Narowal and Gujranwala districts after heavy overnight downpour swelled rivers and streams. Roads, schools and villages were inundated in parts of Narowal, while sections of Head Khanki road in Gujranwala were submerged, cutting off access to nearby villages.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif chaired an emergency meeting to review the emergency situation. The NDMA chairman briefed the prime minister on the latest flood conditions.

The premier directed authorities to further improve early warning systems to ensure timely alerts, adding that the delivery of essential supplies must continue without delay.
