  • Famous Egyptian TikToker ‘Yasmin’ turns out to be a boy

Famous Egyptian TikToker ‘Yasmin’ turns out to be a boy

TikTok users have been left stunned after it has been revealed that popular Egyptian influencer ‘Yasmin’ is not who she claimed to be.

According to Arab media, the matter came to light after complaints were filed at a police station about the female TikToker’s dance videos. The police then summoned TikToker Yasmin for questioning and further investigation.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the person posing as a girl and running TikTok under the name Yasmin was actually an 18-year-old boy named Abdul Rahman.

The student admitted: “I created this account only to increase followers and earn money.”

Following his arrest, the court initially placed him on a four-day remand. He was later released on bail of 5,000 Egyptian pounds (about $105).

Abdul Rahman, who lives with his divorced mother in a village, was described by neighbors as a quiet and ordinary student at the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management. One neighbor expressed disbelief: “We are in shock. What we saw as a normal young boy was fooling the world by becoming a girl.”

An Interior Ministry spokesman confirmed: “Abdul Rahman has been charged with impersonating a woman and publishing immoral content.”

This case has drawn attention as Egyptian authorities continue their crackdown on so-called “immoral content” on social media. In recent years, several female TikTok influencers have been arrested for posting lewd dances or explicit content, with some even sentenced to prison.

Celebs defend Bushra Ansari after Ruby Anam’s harsh comments go viral

Pakistani theatre and drama actress Rubi Anam is under fire after making remarks about veteran actress Bushra Ansari, suggesting she should retire instead of making vlogs. Several celebrities have called her comments disrespectful and unnecessary.

The actress made the remarks during her recent appearance on Sabih Sumair’s podcast.

“Bushra Ansari is my favourite. I like her a lot; if I say so, it would be a lie. She should rest at this age. She is not at that age now to take a camera and do vlogging,” she said.

She went on to add, “She should fear Allah. What is she doing now that she is old? She is older than our mothers.”

She also mentioned Bushra’s sister, Asma Abbas: “I have worked with Asma Abbas in a show. She loves me so much, gives me so much respect that I cannot say anything against her. I cannot tell her to stop now. Don’t overshoot so much. She is also working on TV, doing serials. Despite this, what is the need for her to do vlogging while shopping for clothes and shoes?”

Ruby further commented: “She wears a lot of makeup on her face, while she is not even that beautiful.”

Talking about her own appearance, she said: “I have not undergone any kind of surgery on my face. This is my natural beauty.” She added, “I keep a few drops of Zam Zam water in a bottle of rose water and sprinkle it on my face every day. That is why my face remains fresh and youthful.”

Ruby Anam’s remarks quickly drew backlash from fellow celebrities.

Actress Zhalay Sarhadi strongly condemned the statement, saying: “Incredibly out of line, intrusive, rude and disrespectful. Why must such people spew needless opinions? To get viral? Is that it? Such a disgrace.”

Actress Mamya Shajaffar also expressed disappointment: “Breaks my heart how women always bring other women down.”

Singer Ghania Ali added, “Ok, I found her extremely rude, period!”

Tamkenat Mansoor praises father who caught harasser red-handed

Pakistani comedian and actor Tamkenat Mansoor has reacted strongly to a viral video showing a father bravely catching a man harassing his daughters. Sharing the clip on her Instagram story, she urged parents to trust and support their children.

She wrote: “Please always take your kids’ complaints seriously. Give them the confidence so they can share their issues with you. Kudos to this father for catching the culprit and handing him over to the authorities rather than imprisoning his own daughters.”

The video was originally posted by digital creator Shakeel Chishti on Instagram, who shared it with the caption: “14 din ho gaye bachiyon se ched khani karte hue, aaj range haathon baap ne pakar liya.”

In the video, the father explained, “It’s been 14 days, my two daughters go to madrassa, and for 14 days they were telling me, ‘Baba, whenever we go and stand there, some uncle comes and bothers us. Sometimes he asks us about the way to home, sometimes he asks our name, sometimes he asks Baba’s name.”

He added, “Yesterday morning, around 7:15 to 7:30, my daughter and son went to the bakery. As they were going upstairs, this person followed them in a narrow street. He went to the roof behind her, grabbed my daughter’s hand, and tried to abduct her.”

In efforts to protect his daughters, the father set a trap. “This morning after Fajr prayer, I went and stood there. As soon as my daughters came, two minutes later this man came and stood near them. So today we caught him red-handed. We will hand him over to the police and file a kidnapping case. We have identified him, now the rest is up to the law.”

Social media users applauded the father’s courage. A user wrote, “Father did an excellent job. But please don’t let your girls go out anywhere alone.”

Another said, “The kind of father every daughter deserves.”

One user commented, “Instead of imprisoning his daughters at home, he chose to catch the real culprit. Good!”

One added, “It heals me to see a father who actually stepped up for his daughters and took action! Proud of you. You just restored my faith in Pakistani society.”

  • Wasim Akram in trouble for promoting online gambling platform

Wasim Akram in trouble for promoting online gambling platform

An application submitted to the Cyber Crime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) – now National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) – in Lahore has sought legal action against former Pakistan cricket captain and star bowler Wasim Akram for promoting a sports betting and gambling platform.

According to the application submitted by one Muhammad Fiaz, the former international cricketer signed up as a brand ambassador for an Indian betting company linked to the platform called Baji. The complainant alleges that a poster and a video clip circulating on social media showed Akram endorsing the platform while urging people to join for an “exciting experience”.

“Wasim Akram signed up for an Indian betting and gambling company as a brand ambassador. A clip shared on his social media account shows Akram asking people to join the betting app for exciting experience, encouraging fans to rake in dough,” stated the application, a copy of which is available with The Current.

It added that the former cricketer, by associating with the platform, was “promoting gambling in Pakistan”, which is prohibited under the law and banned in all forms.

The complainant went on to seek strict action against Akram under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act of 2016.

While Akram is yet to respond to the complaint against him, the complaint comes amid growing scrutiny over influencers and celebrities promoting betting and gambling platforms in Pakistan.

On Saturday night, popular YouTuber Saad ur Rehman, widely known as Ducky Bhai, was arrested in Lahore after the NCCIA registered a case against him for promoting online gambling applications.

According to the FIR, the case against Ducky Bhai was registered under several sections of PECA, including Section 13 (Electronic Forgery), Section 14 (Electronic Fraud), Section 25 (Spamming) and Section 26 (Spoofing). He was also charged under Sections 294-B and 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

The FIR said that Ducky Bhai among other internet personalities were promoting gambling apps such as Binomo, 1xBet, Bet365 and B9 Game for financial gain, which had resulted in financial losses for people who had been misled into using their savings on these platforms.

He is currently in NCCIA custody on a two-day physical remand.

  • FIR against model, photographer for ‘violating sanctity of Wazir Khan Mosque’

FIR against model, photographer for ‘violating sanctity of Wazir Khan Mosque’

Police in Lahore have registered a case against model Azbia Khan and photographer Zain Shah over a video filmed inside the historic Masjid Wazir Khan.

According to the FIR, lodged on the complaint of Mohammad Awais from the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), the two were accused of “violating the sanctity of the mosque.” The video in question was also uploaded on social media.

The WCLA official said the model recorded the video in “inappropriate attire” and without obtaining the authority’s permission. He added, “The video clip was recorded around four days ago and later uploaded on social media. It had also damaged the reputation of the department besides violating the sanctity of the mosque.”

Back in August 2020, actor Saba Qamar and singer Bilal Saeed also faced legal action for allegedly “violating the sanctity” of the same mosque during a music video shoot.

Following that controversy, the Punjab Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department banned the filming of dramas and movies in mosques and shrines.

  • Humaira Asghar’s death: Court orders registration of murder case

Humaira Asghar’s death: Court orders registration of murder case

The court has ordered the registration of a murder case over the death of actress and model Humaira Asghar.

The directive was issued by the Additional District and Sessions Judge (South), Karachi.

The petition maintained that “Humaira Asghar was murdered and the relevant persons, including her makeup artist, should also be included in the investigation.”

After reviewing the report by the petitioner’s lawyer and the police, the court ruled, “In light of the available records, a cognizable offence has been committed. Therefore, a case should be registered by recording the statements of Humaira Asghar’s family and the state.”

Humaira Asghar’s body was recovered from a flat in Ittehad Commercial, Karachi, on July 8, when the landlord approached the court for non-payment of rent, and the door was broken down by a court bailiff.

The post-mortem report revealed that the body was in the final stages of decomposition, suggesting that the actress died nearly eight months ago.

Investigating authorities shared that Humaira Asghar had been facing financial difficulties. Her last commercial shoot took place in September 2024, and work-related contacts were ongoing until October 2024.

In addition, chemical reports from the flat revealed that five samples found in frozen items contained sea salt, which is commonly used to reduce odours and repel insects. However, the salt found in the kitchen was different. According to investigators, “this detail may provide new angles to the case.”

Further inquiry also uncovered that the actress’s phone was active until October 2024. Despite repeated calls from her makeup artist, no response was received, and her WhatsApp profile picture was deleted.

  • Arrested Grade 18 lecturer confesses to BLA connection, reveals foiled plans for Aug 14 attack

Arrested Grade 18 lecturer confesses to BLA connection, reveals foiled plans for Aug 14 attack

Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Sarfraz Bugti has lauded security forces for arresting a “would-be suicide bomber” as they foiled a terrorist attack on the country’s 78th Independence Anniversary, going on to introduce a detained individual who confessed to his connection to the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).

During a press conference in Quetta, CM Bugti revealed a recorded statement by Dr Mohammad Usman Kazi, who said he had a Master’s degree from the Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in Islamabad, a PhD from Peshawar University, and was working as a Grade-18 lecturer. After releasing Kazi’s statement, the provincial chief executive noted that the information being shared was “not in great detail”, so ongoing investigation were not affected.

Explaining how the arrested lecturer was allegedly involved in facilitating the Nov 2024 Quetta Railway Station bombing, in which 32 were killed and over 50 were injured, CM Bugti said that Kazi facilitated the suicide bomber.

He maintained that Kazi’s mother was still receiving pension, which means she was a government employee. “His wife is also a government employee and he himself is a Grade-18 [officer] who pursued education and completed his PhD on Pakistani scholarship. His brother is an employee at Reko Diq, which means he was not deprived in any way,” CM Bugti added.

He critisiced the exploitation of narratives of marginalisation, questioning the claims of widespread deprivation, and said that such elements were also exploiting women to prepare them for suicide attacks.

The CM said that the outlawed BLA’s Majeed Brigade, which was recently designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) by the United States (US), operated in “three to four tiers”. He explained that the lowest tier was made of uneducated “footsoldiers,” the second involved women used for targeted killings in urban areas, while the top-most “sophisticated” tier included individuals like Kazi.

“This is the first time when security forces have achieved such great success and arrested a leader of Majeed Brigade’s ‘sophisticated’ tier.”

He praised the security agencies, the Balochistan Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and the police for saving the province from “huge destruction”.

‘I am deeply ashamed that I remained involved in these actions’

Earlier, Kazi, in his video statement, revealed that during his 2020 visit to QAU, he was introduced to three men linked to “an organisation”, two of whom were later killed. He said that two men, Dr Habetan and Feh Khaliq, then got him to join the militant group and had him meet with a man named Basheerzai.

“All these introductions were made through Telegram,” the lecturer confessed, adding he facilitated “three acts” on the group’s directives when he went to Quetta and that his alias in the organisation was Feh Hameer.

He recalled his facilitation of militants and the banned group on different levels and revealed he had also provided shelter to a man who was “about to be used in some event on August 14”. The lecturer also confessed to having bought a pistol that was used “in targeting security forces and government employees”.

“These are the acts I have done, the facilitation I have carried out. If it’s considered, the state has given us everything, respect, pride, a job… and even to my wife. But despite this, I went against the law and betrayed the state.”

He said he was deeply ashamed and the aim of the video statement was to inform the coming generations and the youth save themselves from these groups spreading anarchy.
