  • Indian fans disappointed as Lionel Messi cancels visit to Kerala

Indian fans disappointed as Lionel Messi cancels visit to Kerala

Lionel Messi and the Argentina national football team will no longer visit Kerala for a friendly match this year, leaving millions of fans in India disappointed.

Kerala’s Sports Minister, V. Abdurahiman, confirmed the news on Monday, stating: “Messi and the Argentina team’s visit, scheduled for this year, has been cancelled. The foreign team has informed us that they won’t be able to come to India in October.”

Earlier announcements had created a wave of excitement among fans, as Messi was expected to lead his team in a highly anticipated match in Kerala. The tour had been confirmed and sponsors had already paid the match fees.

“The sponsors made it clear that their interest was only in the October visit. With that, the matter is now closed,” Abdurahiman added.

Previously, the minister had stated that Argentina’s team would be treated as state guests, with the government handling their security, accommodation, and other arrangements.

For now, Indian fans’ dream of watching Messi play live in their country has been postponed.

  • Indians blamed as paan spit stains give London streets a desi makeover

Indians blamed as paan spit stains give London streets a desi makeover

A viral video from Harrow in London has sparked outrage online after it showed bright red paan spit stains on streets, pavements and outside local shops. And yes, many online users are blaming Indians for giving the city a “surprise desi makeover”.

Shared by the Instagram account ‘Harrow Online’, the video has already been viewed over 260,000 times. “Paan spitting is becoming a big problem in Harrow – with stains spreading from Rayners Lane to North Harrow. Residents are calling for more action,” read the caption.

Reports quoted locals as saying that the stains were mostly found outside stores and takeaways that sell paan or gutka – popular chewing tobacco products. While chewing gutka isn’t banned in the United Kingdom (UK), spitting in public certainly isn’t encouraged. That, however, hasn’t stopped the streets from getting a bit of a desi paint job.

And the internet? It has been having a field day.

“Start checking teeth while giving Visa ”, wrote one user while another commented, “Vimal supremacy ”. Others chimed in with comments like “Obviously Indians ” and, “THIS IS INDIA MAN SURE ”.

One even tried to calm the chaos with, “Just Indian things… chill”.

The video has sparked a wider debate, not just about spitting in public, but also about the cultural habits that travel with people. But for now, Harrow’s streets are wearing red, not for fashion, but thanks to some seriously passionate paan lovers.

It may be noted that the videos come as South Asian immigrants in general, and Indian immigrants in particular, face an undercurrent of hostility in the UK. A report by Minority Rights Group highlights how online hatred is pushing minorities — including South Asians — toward social marginalisation.

This manifests in increased vulnerability to religious hate, workplace discrimination and xenophobic street harassment.

While Britain’s Indian diaspora is often seen as economically successful and culturally integrated, they’re not immune to scapegoating — especially during political debates over immigration. Media portrayals sometimes fuel subtle biases, linking Indians with resource competition or cultural incompatibility.

The rise of far-right sentiments has also made social spaces more hostile.

  • Fact Check: Did Pakistani, Indian jets patrol over Kashmir region last night?

Fact Check: Did Pakistani, Indian jets patrol over Kashmir region last night?

Claims have been circulating online since yesterday that the airspace over Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) was closed, while Indian and Pakistani fighter jets were patrolling over the Kashmir region on Monday night.

An Indian social media account on X (formerly Twitter) posted, “Kuch bada hone wala hai (something big is about to happen). Massive air activity over Srinagar for the last 30 minutes. Traffic lockdown … Amarnath Yatra suspended. High alert in Kashmir…”

Another account named The Jaipur Dialogue, citing locals, claimed that continuous aerial movement was happening in the Kashmir region. “Massive air activity reported over Srinagar, Kashmir in the last 30 minutes. Residents report continuous aerial movement, sources confirm unusual military air presence,” the post read on X on Monday.

Similar claims can be seen here, here, here and here.

    Fact Check

The Current conducted a thorough investigation and research into the claims, unearthing that it originated from the Indian news outlet The Economic Times, which reported on its live feed on Monday at 11:08 pm that “Massive air activity for the last half an hour in Srinagar”.

Following the report, several netizens initiated sharing pictures of jets with the same caption: “Airspace over Jammu and Kashmir region closed, Indian and Pakistani jets have started patrolling.”

With both Islamabad and New Delhi yet to comment on the claim, journalist and TV host Ajmal Jami, citing military sources, took to X on Monday, writing, “All reports of Indian Airspace closed over IIOJK and air activity being spread by Indian accounts is fake. Everything is normal (sic).”

Verdict: The claim that Indian Airspace was closed over occupied Kashmir and Pakistani and Indian jets were patrolling over the region is false. There is no official confirmation from either side.

  • ‘I was told to sleep for a role’: Zhalay Sarhadi, Hafsa Butt expose showbiz’s dark side

‘I was told to sleep for a role’: Zhalay Sarhadi, Hafsa Butt expose showbiz’s dark side

Pakistani actor and model Zhalay Sarhadi isn’t mincing words when it comes to the ugly truths lurking behind the glamour of being a celebrity.

Appearing on Excuse Me with Ahmed Ali Butt, Zhalay tackled some of the industry’s most toxic realities, from the age-old casting couch culture to deep-rooted misogyny, all while casually dismantling gender stereotypes one statement at a time.

Zhalay didn’t hold back when addressing the pervasive belief that a woman’s income lacks “blessing.” Responding to the idea that “aurat ki kamayi mein barkat nahi hoti”, she firmly countered: “I’ve funded my own education, my own wedding, and bought my own car. So I don’t see how my earnings are any less abundant than a man’s.”

On a lighter note, when asked if she was the one who proposed to her husband, Zhalay chuckled, “No, I made sure my husband proposed to me. My personality is very intimidating. What can I say?”

But the conversation quickly turned serious when she acknowledged that her intimidating nature might have developed as a defense mechanism in an industry where exploitation is often brushed under the rug.

“Possibly,” she admitted. “I also had to give a shut-up call in the beginning to a couple of people. I faced it. I wouldn’t say that it was a very aggressive proposition. But I got it.”

Recounting one specific incident, she said, “I was told that if I wanted a role of my choice, I’d have to play along with what ‘other women would sleep with someone for’.”

Her response was firm and fearless, “I lost it, which is normal. I told them that I’m just doing this to fund my education, and if anyone approaches me with an offer like this, I would slap them.”

In a sharp follow-up, she added that the man who made the offer had once dismissed her as “too tall.” She didn’t hesitate to point out the irony, “Even though he was the director and had nothing to do with my height.”

When asked if the man was still working in the industry, Zhalay delivered a biting reply, “MashaAllah, yes. Such people remain a part of the industry.”

Zhalay isn’t alone in speaking up. Just weeks earlier, actress Hafsa Butt shared a similarly chilling casting couch encounter on the FHM Podcast. She claimed a producer had propositioned her in exchange for a lead role: “These things are normal in the showbiz industry and happen to everyone,” she said. “Almost all women in the industry face harassment, but very few speak up.”

Revealing details of her experience, Hafsa recalled that after initially being contacted about a role, the producer said: “If you want the lead role, you should give me something in return.”

When she asked for clarification, he said, “You should be in my bed.”

“I was shocked,” she said. Days later, the same producer called to say he was “just joking” and that she shouldn’t take it seriously.

Despite not naming the producer, Hafsa said she shared the story to raise awareness, not for herself, but for every woman facing similar abuse.

Actress Mehar Bano also added her voice to the growing chorus of women exposing the ugly side of showbiz.

On the talk show Hansna Mana Hai, she stated, “Both boys and girls in the Pakistani showbiz industry face harassment frequently, whether in front of the camera or behind it. Such incidents are very common.”

She explained how influential figures pressure actors into compromising situations, “Sometimes artists even receive offers like ‘Do this and you will get work.’ Powerful people in the industry put pressure on actors for work.”

She described the industry as one that thrives on appearances: “Showbiz is a world full of beautiful faces and attractive personalities, which is why its dark side is so prominent and people often fall victim to it.”

In a candid aside, she revealed a surprising (and slightly humorous) detail, “We were working on a project where one co-actor’s body odor was really strong, but I didn’t say anything to him. I usually don’t say anything about such things and handle it all professionally.”

‘Weak and unconvincing’: Nadia Khan mocks Saima Noor, Sajal Aly’s dialogue delivery in Main Manto Nahi Hoon

TV host and commentator Nadia Khan has mocked Saima Noor and Sajal Aly for their dialogue delivery in the latest drama Main Manto Nahi Hoon, saying that the characters sound weak and unconvincing.

The drama has been airing on ARY for the past few weeks and has received mixed reactions for its story and characters. In the series, Sajal plays the role of Saima Noor’s niece while Humayun Saeed and Sanam Saeed portray university professors.

While Main Manto Nahi Hoon earlier faced criticism for showing a romantic relationship between a teacher and student, the on-screen chemistry between Saima and Sajal as aunt and niece has received positive feedback.

However, Nadia Khan has now openly mocked both actors, saying their dialogues sound weak and unconvincing.

While imitating their delivery, Nadia sarcastically reenacted several lines, making exaggerated facial expressions. She said Sajal’s character says things like, “Mujhe birthday party mein jana hai,” to which Saima’s character responds, “Toh chali jao.”

She continued, saying, “Abbu ijaazat nahi denge,” and Saima replies, “Toh mana lo.” Then, “Abbu maarenge,” and Saima replies, “Toh mar jao.”

Nadia also criticised Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar’s writing without naming him, and said the characters had been given poorly-written dialogues. “Saima’s character should not have had such weak dialogues,” she said and added that dialogues should have been argumentative and powerful.

The remarks, however, didn’t sit well with many on social media. Some users accused her of constantly mocking others instead of offering constructive criticism while some said she herself was a “failed actress”.

Several people also pointed out that this wasn’t the first time Nadia had targeted a drama written by controversial writer Qamar, suggesting there might be a personal grudge involved.

  • Babar Azam likely to make T20I comeback

Babar Azam likely to make T20I comeback

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering recalling former captain Babar Azam to the T20 squad amid fitness concerns over Fakhar Zaman.

According to media reports, Babar’s return could come during the upcoming tri-nation series and the Asia Cup 2025. Fakhar suffered an injury during the T20I series against West Indies, ruling him out of both the T20 and ODI series.

The PCB has directed Fakhar to report to the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, where he will undergo rehabilitation. His availability for the Asia Cup remains uncertain, and the board is closely monitoring his recovery while also exploring backup options.

Reports suggested that if Fakhar fails to regain full fitness in time, Babar is a strong contender to rejoin the T20 squad. However, his selection will depend on his performance in the ongoing ODI series against the West Indies. A strong showing could boost his chances of a T20 return.

Babar recently met with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi during the second T20I against West Indies, along with Mohammad Rizwan and Naseem Shah.

The final squad for the Asia Cup is expected to be announced in the second week of August. The tournament kicks off on September 9 with a Group B match between Afghanistan and Hong Kong.

Eight teams are divided into two groups. Pakistan and India are placed in Group A alongside UAE and Oman, while Group B includes Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong.

Pakistan will open their campaign against Oman on September 12, followed by a high-stakes clash with India on September 14. Their final group-stage match will be played against the UAE on September 17.
