Indians target Ajay Devgn for old photo with Shahid Afridi

Indian actor Ajay Devgn has found himself at the centre of online backlash after an old photo of him with former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi resurfaced on social media.

The image started circulating shortly after the much-anticipated match between Pakistan and India in the ongoing World Championship of Legends (WCL) was cancelled amid objections from the Indian side over Afridi’s inclusion in the squad.

While the photo in question is from WCL 2024, it resurfaced amid the recent controversy. Many angry Indian fans began targeting Ajay Devgn, criticising him for posing with Afridi despite the image being from a previous year, when the tournament did not carry the current political tension.

One user commented, “You can’t trust any Bollywood celebrities anymore.” Another wrote, “Ajay only loves India on screen, not in real life.” A third remarked, “Even if this is from 2024, everyone works for money.”

Someone else added, “Now he’ll do another patriotic movie just to save his image.” Another angry fan said, “Boycott his upcoming film. Enough is enough.”

The criticism intensified despite Ajay Devgn’s ownership stake in the WCL and the fact that the photo had no direct connection to the ongoing season or the cancelled match.

Meanwhile, the WCL organisers have clarified that the remaining tournament matches will proceed as scheduled. Pakistan Champions’ owner Kamil Khan also addressed questions about future India-Pakistan encounters, stating that if both teams reach the knockouts, steps will be taken to handle the situation appropriately.

Despite the clarification, social media remains divided, and Ajay Devgn continues to face criticism from his own countrymen over a picture many didn’t bother verifying before reacting.

  • Viral image showing large, deep crack in road in Islamabad caused by rain is fake

Viral image showing large, deep crack in road in Islamabad caused by rain is fake

An image showing that recent heavy rainfall has caused a large, deep crack running along the centre of a road in Islamabad’s F-8 road, with muddy water flowing beneath it has gone viral in recent days.

The image bears the headline: “Islamabad F-8 road collapses after heavy rain, just 45 days after construction”.

Traffic cones can be seen placed along the road to warn pedestrians and restrict access. Several people are walking nearby, some taking photos or videos, indicating this is a recent incident.

The footage has been widely shared on social media platforms, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), which can be seen here, here, here and here.

    Is the image real?

Upon close examination and analysis, The Current has found out that the image has been generated by using Artificial Intelligence (AI). A similar image, showing a gigantic crack in the middle of the road can be seen here with some differences from the previous image, indicating that these images have been generated by giving a prompt to AI.

    What actually happened:

Last week, it was reported that heavy rain damaged a portion of the road at the F-8 Interchange, in Islamabad, which was reportedly constructed in nearly 45 days.

The F-8 Interchange was built in a ‘record time’ some months ago. However, heavy rains exposed the quality of the work

Verdict: Genuine footage of the affected road, which can be seen here showed that the cracks were not as large as the exaggerated ones in the AI images which misrepresents the extent of actual damage.

Hence, the image with headline “Islamabad F-8 road collapses after heavy rain, just 45 days after construction” is fake and AI generated.

Faizan Khawaja says he might have taken his own life if not for ONE thing

Actor Faizan Khawaja has opened up about the financial and mental challenges he faced in the entertainment industry, revealing that if his father had not been part of the entertainment world, he might have contemplated suicide during the most difficult phase of his career.

He posted a series of videos on his official Instagram account, openly talking about the unprofessional behaviour and payment delays that artists face.

In one of the most heartfelt moments, he said, “If my father Rashid Khawaja wasn’t a part of this industry, I might have committed suicide at the peak of my career.”

In the video, Faizan clarified that he wasn’t trying to defame anyone, but was “simply speaking the truth about the industry.”

He claimed that even senior actors and directors like Mohammad Ahmed and Mehreen Jabbar are forced to chase production houses and producers for their rightful payments.

Sharing his experience, Faizan recalled, “I’ve been in situations where I had to follow up several times just to get paid for a commercial.”

He added that this issue doesn’t affect only him, noting that “there are so many hardworking actors who don’t get what they deserve.”

Faizan Khawaja also clarified that he hasn’t quit the entertainment industry. “I haven’t left acting. I’ve just stopped working with those who don’t pay on time,” he said.

He explained that he shared his experience not just for himself, but for all the “struggling actors whose livelihoods depend on showbiz and who are facing countless challenges in their careers.”

He concluded with a promise, saying, “In my next video, I will name the producer who didn’t pay me.”

Faizan Khawaja is the son of Rashid Khawaja, a respected actor and producer in the Pakistani entertainment industry.

Having acted in several dramas in the past, Faizan Khawaja has been away from TV for some time. He has now shed light on the serious issue of payment delays in Pakistan’s entertainment industry. His stand is being appreciated by fans and social media users, many of whom have expressed their desire to see him back on screen.

  • Pakistani passport makes major change to benefit women

Pakistani passport makes major change to benefit women

The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) will begin including mothers’ names on all newly issued Pakistani passports, officials have confirmed.

Director-General Mustafa Jamal Kazi stated that the update is intended to align Pakistan’s travel documents with international standards and address challenges faced by citizens, particularly single mothers.

At present, only the father’s name is included on national identity cards and passports. Authorities note that this has caused legal and administrative difficulties, especially in cases where the father is unavailable, deceased, or estranged. Single mothers have particularly faced obstacles in proving guardianship while travelling or handling official matters.

Kazi pointed out that many developed countries already include both parents’ names on travel documents, making interactions with immigration and legal systems easier. He emphasised that the new policy aims to support Pakistani citizens encountering similar issues.

This change will apply only to passports issued after the policy takes effect. Existing passports will remain valid until their stated expiration dates.

  • ‘Blaming Karachi won’t hide your own neglect’; Shamoon Abbasi slams Humaira Asghar’s mother

‘Blaming Karachi won’t hide your own neglect’; Shamoon Abbasi slams Humaira Asghar’s mother

Actor Shamoon Abbasi has strongly responded to a statement said by late actress Humaira Asghar Ali’s mother, who blamed the people of Karachi for ignoring her daughter’s cries for help.

In a recent interview on a local TV channel, Humaira’s parents spoke about her personal struggles and isolation, with her mother labeling the people of Karachi “insensitive” and “heartless.”

In anger, she declared, “I curse the people of Karachi,” claiming that although screams came from her daughter’s flat, no one knocked on the door or checked in, and instead, people continued with their leisure activities.

Her statement sparked widespread backlash on social media. Users questioned how the late actress’ parents could shift the blame to the public when they themselves appeared disconnected from their daughter’s condition, and even reportedly refused to claim her body initially.

Taking to his Instagram account, Shamoon Abbasi addressed the issue in a video message, saying, “We cannot imagine her parents’ pain, but as parents, it was their responsibility to take care of their daughter. When Humaira asked for help, her parents refused to help. When there was an uproar on social media, the brothers came to collect the body and their position also changed.”

He further remarked, “If financial circumstances did not permit, a relative or acquaintance from Lahore could have been sent to Karachi at a modest cost to check on the daughter’s well-being. The police could have also been approached for help. But the parents shrugged off the responsibility and blamed the citizens of Karachi.”

Shamoon added, “The relationship was with you, the daughter was yours, it was your and your family’s responsibility to take care of her, but you chose the easy way and started blaming others.”

He also revealed that during the time of crisis, several people from the showbiz industry and NGOs had come forward, ready to take responsibility for Humaira’s burial if her family continued to refuse.

“This was not just empty talk but proper arrangements were being made for it,” he said.

Shamoon concluded by saying, “We are also saddened by Humaira’s passing, but in this hour of grief, it is better to recognize our responsibilities than to blame others. Because the real responsibility of those who die alone lies with the family, not the entire city.”

Humaira Asghar ‘s decomposed body was found in a flat in Defence Phase 6, Karachi where she had been living alone in the rented apartment for the past seven years, after moving to Karachi from Lahore in 2018.

Her remains were discovered when a court bailiff arrived to vacate her flat on July 8, after the landlord filed a complaint over unpaid rent. When repeated knocks went unanswered, the bailiff broke the door open and found the 32-year-old actor’s body lying in a room, hidden away for months.

Initially, Karachi Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed estimated that Humaira had been dead for at least a month, based on the advanced stage of decomposition. However, investigators now believe her death occurred back in October 2024.

Her last Facebook post was shared on September 11, 2024, and her final Instagram update was on September 30. Phone records also show that her last dialled call was made in October 2024, after which her phone remained inactive.

Investigators discovered that her apartment’s electricity had been disconnected since October due to unpaid bills. The water pipes were dry and rusted, expired food was found in the kitchen, and there were no candles or backup lights present.

“There were rusted jars, dry pipes, and no signs of electricity or candles in her flat,” an investigator said. “One neighbor returned to the vacant apartment on the same floor in February but by then the smell had faded because the balcony door had been left open.”

Humaira Asghar Ali rose to fame after winning Veet Miss Super Model in 2014 and was known for her appearance in the reality show Tamasha Ghar in 2022. She also acted in popular dramas including Just Married, Ehsaan Faramosh, Guru and Chal Dil Mere, and appeared in films like Jalaibee (2015) and Love Vaccine (2021).

Police efforts to locate her family revealed that Humaira’s father had severed ties with her nearly two years ago and initially refused to come to Karachi to claim her body. However, her remains were eventually handed over to her family on July 11.

  • Messi leaves Ronaldo behind in non-penalty goals

Messi leaves Ronaldo behind in non-penalty goals

Argentine football legend Lionel Messi has achieved another remarkable milestone by surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo in non-penalty goals.

Messi scored twice in Inter Miami’s emphatic 5-1 win over New York Red Bulls, taking his tally of non-penalty goals to 764, one ahead of Ronaldo, who stands at 763.

These statistics include only official matches and exclude goals scored from penalties. That’s why they’re considered a better reflection of a player’s technical skill, positioning, and decision-making on the field.

Messi scored most of his goals while playing for Barcelona between 2004 and 2021.

In contrast, Ronaldo has over 880 career goals in total, but more than 150 of those have come from penalties. He has also played more matches than Messi, making this comparison even more significant.

  • PSL, IPL teams may clash as Champions League T20 set for comeback

PSL, IPL teams may clash as Champions League T20 set for comeback

The much-awaited return of Champions League T20 is finally on the cards.

According to reports, during its annual conference held in Singapore, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially approved the revival of the global franchise tournament, now rebranded as the World Clubs Championship. The tournament is expected to take place in September 2026.

The event aims to bring together champion teams from the world’s top T20 leagues, potentially including franchises from the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, the participation of these teams is yet to be confirmed, as several commercial and scheduling matters remain unresolved.

Unlike the previous edition of the Champions League T20, which was discontinued due to low ratings and financial losses, the new version promises renewed global interest and stronger commercial potential.

According to reports, both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have shown support for the idea. Still, no confirmation has been made regarding the inclusion of IPL or PSL teams.

Notably, no representative from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) or PSL attended the World Cricket Connects meeting held in London, which was attended by heads of various leagues including the Bangladesh Premier League, SA20, ILT20, Caribbean Premier League, and The Hundred.

The ICC’s approval signals that major teams could be part of the tournament once commercial and scheduling issues are ironed out. India is currently scheduled to play white-ball series against Afghanistan and the West Indies in 2026, but minor adjustments could create room for the World Clubs Championship.

The original Champions League T20 was held from 2009 to 2014. The past winners included New South Wales (2009), Chennai Super Kings (2010 and 2014), Mumbai Indians (2011 and 2013), and Sydney Sixers (2012). The tournament was discontinued after getting poor TV ratings and financial setbacks.

‘Respect comes first’: Mehwish Hayat reacts to trend of mocking Sahir Lodhi

Actress Mehwish Hayat has responded to the viral trend of celebrities and social media personalities imitating Sahir Lodhi on social media, urging people to show kindness and respect.

In recent days, videos posted on Sahir Lodhi’s official social media accounts have gone viral, showing the TV host seemingly caught “unaware” while preparing for meetings. He has been widely mocked for the overly staged nature of the clips and his repetitive expressions.

As these videos gained popularity, social media users flooded them with humorous comments. Several well-known actors and social media personalities joined in by sharing light-hearted imitation videos of Sahir’s dramatic style. Among them are stars like Faisal Qureshi, Yasir Nawaz, and Aijaz Aslam.

What started as routine content quickly turned into meme material, with social media influencers and celebrities joining the trend. Notable actors Yasir Nawaz, Faisal Qureshi, and Aijaz Aslam also responded humorously to Lodhi’s videos, drawing massive attention from fans and internet users.

However, not everyone found the trend amusing. Actress Mehwish Hayat came to Sahir Lodhi’s defence, calling out those who mocked him and urging for more compassion.

“Every human being deserves basic respect,” Mehwish wrote on Instagram. “One should not abandon the rule of decency and gentleness while criticizing someone’s style.”

Mehwish wrote, “Sahir Lodhi is someone who’s worked consistently, shown up with passion, and built a name in an industry that’s not easy to survive in. It’s really not fair how some people make fun of him, often forgetting that he’s a human being with feelings, just like the rest of us.”

She further added, “You don’t have to agree with someone’s style or choices, but basic respect should never go out of fashion. Let’s normalize kindness, especially toward those who keep showing up, no matter what the world throws at them!”

  • 13 terrorists killed in two intel-based operations: ISPR

13 terrorists killed in two intel-based operations: ISPR

13 terrorists have been killed by security forces in two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted in the Malakand and Kalat districts, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in separate statements on Sunday.

According to the ISPR, nine terrorists were eliminated and eight arrested in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Malakand district, while four others were eliminated in Balochistan’s Kalat district.

The military’s media wing stated that the four-day intelligence-based operation in Malakand was carried out in coordination with the police, Levies, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and the district administration.

The operation was launched following reports of the presence of militants linked to what the ISPR described as an “Indian proxy,” the statement revealed.

The troops surrounded and effectively engaged the militants’ location, killing nine and arresting eight in an intense fire exchange, the ISPR stated. The two hideouts used by militants were also busted, and a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosives was recovered.

The statement reads, “Locals of the area appreciated the operation and expressed their full support to the state’s counterterrorism efforts.”

The statement further stated that the sanitisation operation was conducted to eliminate any other militants in the area, as the security forces and law enforcement agencies, in step with the nation, were determined to wipe out the menace of militancy from the country.

In a separate operation in Kalat, four terrorists were killed, the ISPR said on Sunday. The operation targeted the reported presence of militants associated with the Indian proxy group ‘Fitna al-Hind,’ the statement added.

“During the conduct of the operation, own forces effectively engaged the terrorists’ location, and after an intense exchange of fire, four Indian sponsored terrorists were sent to hell. Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from the terrorists, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area.”
