‘We’ll ensure he gets no work’; Indian film body targets Diljit Dosanjh for casting Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3

The much-anticipated film Sardaar Ji 3, featuring Indian star Diljit Dosanjh and Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, has sparked major controversy in India.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has announced a complete boycott of the film, and the trailer has already been blocked on YouTube India. While the trailer excited fans with its comic and fantasy-packed scenes, Hania Aamir’s presence has triggered strong backlash.

Amid rising political tensions between Pakistan and India, FWICE has called for a total ban on Diljit Dosanjh’s current and future projects and has appealed to ban the film’s producers as well.

FWICE President BN Tiwari, in an interview with Hindustan Times, stated, “Diljit Dosanjh has hurt the sentiments of the Indian people by working with a Pakistani actress and insulted the sacrifices of our brave soldiers. At a time when the country is going through sensitive situations, his preference for a Pakistani artist raises questions about his loyalty.”

In response to the uproar and anticipated protests, the makers of Sardar Ji 3 have decided to release the film only overseas, completely skipping the Indian market. While the trailer has been geo-blocked on YouTube India but remains available on Diljit Dosanjh’s official Instagram account.

The trailer release also shuts down rumours circulating earlier that Hania Aamir had been removed from the film. In fact, the trailer features her in a lead role as a ghostbuster. On her Instagram, Hania shared the trailer and wrote, “Main taa darr gai.”

The film comes after a tense phase between Pakistan and India following the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), in which more than 26 civilians were killed. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting areas inside Pakistan and martyring over 31 civilians. Pakistan responded with a powerful counterstrike, hitting several Indian military bases and shooting down seven Indian jets, including four Rafales. After Pakistan’s strong and swift retaliation, India, which had initially taken an aggressive stance, was compelled to return to the ceasefire table.

NSC reaffirms Iran’s right to self-defence after US attacks on nuclear sites

A meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) on Monday reaffirmed Iran’s right to self-defence following the airstrikes by the United States (US) on three nuclear facilities: Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz.

Months after flattening homes, targeting hospitals, and starving a besieged population in Gaza, Israel has now launched a wide-scale air assault on Iran, hitting nuclear facilities, military sites, and private residences since June 13, killing top commanders, scientists, and civilians.

An emergency meeting of the NSC, the highest forum for security deliberations comprising the civil and military top brass, was subsequently convened.

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif chaired the meeting, with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir also attending the important moot, and reviewed the evolving regional situation following the Tel Aviv aggression against Tehran.

“The committee strongly condemned Israel’s acts of aggression and expressed regret that these military attacks coincided with a constructive negotiation process between Iran and the US. These reckless actions have escalated tensions, threatening to ignite a wider conflict and diminishing the opportunities for dialogue and diplomacy. The NSC reaffirmed Iran’s right to self-defence as enshrined in the UN Charter,” read the press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Monday (today).

The committee members also extended their condolences to the Iranian government and people over the loss of innocent lives and offered prayers for the swift recovery of the injured.

“While reiterating Pakistan’s stated position, the NSC expressed grave concern over the potential for further escalation after the attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan on June 22 which violated the resolutions of the International Atomic Energy Agency, relevant international law and the UN Charter,” the press release noted.

The committee members also reaffirmed Pakistan’s ongoing engagement with relevant parties and endorsed the government’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at promoting regional peace and stability.

The NSC urged all concerned stakeholders to resolve the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy in accordance with the UN Charter, emphasising the importance of adhering to international human rights and humanitarian law.

  • Rajab Butt ‘not guilty’ in rape case, police says

Rajab Butt ‘not guilty’ in rape case, police says

Rajab Butt’s decision to withdraw his interim bail application marked a turning point in a rape case being heard at the Sessions Court Lahore.

The interim bail applications of Rajab Butt, Salman Haider, and others were heard by Additional Sessions Judge Syed Najaf Haider Kazmi. Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq represented Rajab Butt during the hearing.

The investigating officer told the court, “The three suspects, including Rajab Butt, are not guilty in the investigation.” Following the statement, Rajab Butt withdrew his interim bail application.

Meanwhile, the court extended the interim bail of co-accused Salman Haider until July 3.

The case was registered at Nawab Town Police Station.

An FIR had been filed against YouTuber Rajab Butt and his cousin Salman Haider on _________.  While Haider was accused of rape, blackmail, and unlawful confinement, Rajab Butt was named as an accomplice for allegedly helping detain the complainant and her sister.

According to the FIR lodged by social media activist Ayesha Sharafat at Nawab Town Police Station, she met Salman Haider through social media. They often met in public until August 16, 2024, when she was invited to his residence in Bahria Orchard.

“Salman called me at 7 PM on August 16, 2024, and invited me to his house in Bahria Orchard. Due to trust, I agreed,” she stated in the FIR.

She further claimed, “He gave me juice that had been mixed with an intoxicating substance. After consuming it, I lost consciousness. When I regained awareness, I realized I had been raped; my shirt buttons were open.”

“Fearing social stigma, I remained silent and did not inform my family,” she added.

She went on to allege that, “Later, Salman contacted me again. When I refused to meet him, he began blackmailing me using an explicit video he had secretly filmed without my consent.”

“He also sent that video to my sister, Palwasha, which prompted both of us to confront him at his residence.”

According to the FIR, “We went to Salman’s house to stop him, but once there, Rajab Butt, Man Dogar, Jawad Haider, and Jahangir Butt, who were present with Salman, locked us in a room.”

“Jawad Haider snatched our mobile phones, reset them, and then threatened us before throwing us out.”

Back in May, a video allegedly showing Rajab Butt and his associates assaulting a young man went viral. The victim later filed a complaint at Satu Katla Police Station, but Butt apologised and claimed it was a misunderstanding. The victim accepted the apology, and both parties reconciled, resulting in the withdrawal of the legal request.

  • Sunil Gavaskar is unhappy about the most petty issue

Sunil Gavaskar is unhappy about the most petty issue

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has strongly criticised the decision to name the ongoing Test series between India and England the ‘Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy’, stressing that his compatriot Sachin Tendulkar’s name should have come first in the title.

In his column for Mid-day, Gavaskar accepted that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has the right to rename the series, but he questioned the order of the names.

“The ECB is fully entitled to call the series by any name they choose,” Gavaskar wrote. “But for most, if not all, Indian cricket lovers, it is jarring to know that Anderson’s name comes first.”

Gavaskar argued that Tendulkar deserves more respect and should be named first because of his legendary status, seniority, and unmatched cricketing achievements.

“Not only is Sachin Tendulkar along with Kapil Dev the greatest Indian cricketer, but also senior to Anderson by more than a dozen years,” he noted.

“He is number one as far as runs and centuries are concerned in Test cricket but also at the one-day level too he has more runs than anybody else. Anderson is third in the list of wicket takers in Test cricket and his record is nowhere as good as Tendulkar in one-day cricket.”

He further mentioned Tendulkar’s contribution to India’s 2011 World Cup win and pointed out that Anderson has never been part of a World Cup winning side.

“Tendulkar is also part of a World Cup winning team which Anderson has not been. Jimmy Anderson was a terrific bowler but mainly in English conditions and his record away is nowhere near as good as Tendulkar’s is. I also urge all Indian cricket lovers including the India media to call it the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy.”

Previously, the Test series held in England between the two nations was played for the Pataudi Trophy. It was named after Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, who played Test cricket for both India and England. His son, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, also captained India and left a lasting legacy in Indian cricket.

The Pataudi Trophy was introduced in 2007 to mark the 75th anniversary of the first Test match between India and England. Meanwhile, the series played in India has traditionally been called the Anthony De Mello Trophy.

Gavaskar had earlier criticised the decision to remove the Pataudi name, calling it “a total lack of sensitivity to the contribution made by the Pataudis to cricket in both England and India” in a column for Sportstar.

  • Pakistan hits back at Amit Shah for threatening to scrap Indus Waters Treaty

Pakistan hits back at Amit Shah for threatening to scrap Indus Waters Treaty

Pakistan has strongly condemned Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s claim that the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) with Pakistan “will never be reinstated,” calling it a violation of international obligations.

Shah made these comments during an interview with an Indian newspaper, where he asserted that India would reroute water from the Indus River system to Rajasthan. . “We will seize water that was originally flowing to Pakistan, Pakistan will be deprived of water that it has been receiving unjustly,” he said.

In response, Pakistan’s Foreign Office stated that Shah’s remarks demonstrate a complete disregard for the Indus Waters Treaty, which was mediated by the World Bank and signed in 1960. The treaty outlines the division of the Indus Basin rivers between the two nations and has been in effect for over six decades.

India withdrew from the treaty following the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir. India accused Pakistan of being responsible for the attack, although it has not presented any evidence to support the claim to date. Pakistan has denied the allegation and has called for an independent inquiry.

The Foreign Office emphasised that the treaty is an instrument of international law, not merely a political arrangement, and prohibits any unilateral withdrawal or suspension. It claimed that India’s decision to suspend the treaty violates not only the agreement itself but also broader principles of international law.

The FO further noted that using water as political leverage undermines the credibility of cross-border agreements and casts doubt on India’s commitment to its legal obligations. It urged India to promptly reverse its decision and restore the treaty’s implementation unconditionally.

Pakistan reiterated its commitment to the treaty and stated that it would continue to take necessary measures to safeguard its water rights as stipulated in the agreement.

Earlier, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, while addressing the public, criticised India’s position. He warned that if India refused to abide by the treaty, Pakistan would respond decisively, stating, “We will engage in another conflict and seize all six rivers. We know how to protect our waterways.”

The future of the Indus Waters Treaty remains uncertain amid ongoing political and military tensions between the two countries.

Ayesha Khan’s silent farewell: No media, no celebs, just heartbreak

Star of PTV’s golden era Ayesha Khan was discovered dead in a Karachi apartment at the age of 76 last week, but what shocked the public most was the silence and isolation the actress lived in during her final days.

Her last rites were performed quietly, with neither the media informed about the time and place, nor any celebrity in attendance.

In fact, nobody knows exactly when the star slipped away from the world, with her body being discovered only after the smell of decomposition emanating from her apartment prompted her neighbours to complain.

The police then shifted her body to Edhi morgue.

YouTuber Farah Iqrar released a video in which she shared emotional details about the burial of the iconic actress. Showing a picture of her unmarked grave, she said, “Goodbye Ayesha Khan, goodbye.”

She explained that Ayesha Khan was buried near her father’s grave in Sakhi Hassan graveyard, and that the burial rites were carried out in complete silence.

According to Farah Iqrar, Ayesha Khan’s sons refused to authorise an autopsy, telling police that, “It was a natural death, and only the final rites should be performed.”

After that, the body was taken from the Edhi morgue to Sakhi Hassan, where the funeral prayers were quietly offered in the graveyard mosque and the burial took place shortly after.

Farah added, “The media could get very little information about the funeral. Only a few media representatives came to know about it.”

She also revealed, “No showbiz personality attended Ayesha Khan’s funeral because no one was informed. Everything was done very quietly and privately.”

Sharing more about the actress’s final days, Farah said, “Ayesha Khan was a well-mannered and sociable woman, but towards the end of her life, she became isolated. She had a fractured foot and was deeply depressed.”
