Police abduct doctor in Lahore, force him to pay them

Law enforcement officials in Lahore have been recorded on video abducting a doctor and illegally taking money from his account, showcasing what is being called blatant misuse of authority.

Dr. Mukhtar Hussain was taken from his home in Model Town by six men, including police officers in uniform. Surveillance footage shows the assailants forcing the doctor into a vehicle and subsequently taking him to an ATM, where he was forced into withdrawing Rs. 100,000.

Six suspects, including uniformed police officers, are said to have abducted Dr. Mukhtar Hussain from his Model Town home before transporting him to Gajju Matah. Later, three of the cops went back to his house to get his ATM card so they could empty his account.

Authorities have opened an inquiry into the matter as calls for tough punishment for the offenders are intensifying.

In the meantime, Darakhshan Police Station in Karachi became mired in controversy when a senior police officer was accused of setting bribe rates for unlawful activities, including dance parties and unlicensed tea cafés.

A leaked video shows Head Moharar Hamraz discussing weekly bribes from companies under his control that range from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000. He allegedly promised prospective companies a “discount” of Rs. 25,000 and that they may function freely as long as payments were made.

An internal investigation has been initiated while Hamraz has been suspended since the publication of the video. Public anger about rampant police corruption has been ignited by the incident, with  many calling for fundamental shifts to stop law enforcement from becoming organized extortionists.

‘Nationalism is poison’: Hindu hardliner watching match with Shahid Afridi sparks row online

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and nationalist Anurag Thakur watching the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy 2025 match between Pakistan and India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday has sparked controversy online.

Hindutva leader Anurag Thakur is known for introducing objectionable slogans against Muslims in India, like Desh ke gaddaron ko, goli maro s** ko* (Shoot down the traitors who betray the country). He was now seen with Shahid Afridi and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Chairman Jay Shah during the recent crucial clash between Pakistan and India.

India secured a dominant six-wicket victory over Pakistan on Sunday, equalising Pakistan’s record for the most wins in the Champions Trophy format against India.

Internet users called out the Union Minister for sitting beside Afridi, with some netizens lambasting Thakur for his hypocrisy.

One user took to X (formerly Twitter), sharing the Thakur picture with Afridi and writing, “Shahid Afridi is enjoying cricket and the company of Hindutva leader Anurag Thakur and Amit Shah’s son, Jay Shah. Indian and Pakistani nationalists are fools to fight between themselves!”

Another user wrote, “This is BJP Leader and Nepotism Product Anurag Thakur. This man coined the term “Desh ke Gaddaron ko , Goli maaro s*** ko” This man wanted kids of poor Hindus to come out on the streets to save religion and country. Yesterday, he was seen in Dubai, laughing and sitting with Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi.”

“Anurag Thakur, after enjoying Biryani with Shahid Afridi! BJP-RSS’s ideology, in a nutshell, is Hypocrisy so strong that even their own WhatsApp groups must be confused!” wrote the third user.

Another user questioned, “Do you know how many articles the Propaganda website Opindia wrote on Shahid Afridi? 40. Will they write on this now as he is seen enjoying the match with their masters?”

Resharing an old clip of Thakur raising objectionable slogans against Indian Muslims, a user, while sharing the BJP leader’s picture with Afridi, wrote, “Nationalism is a poison given to the poor by the rich.”

Another user remarked, “If it had been any Congress leader instead of Anurag Thakur, Bhakts would have declared him Anti-National by now. Shahid Afridi calls Kashmir a part of Pakistan.”

  • ‘Divorce XI’: Shaniera hits out at social media page for claiming Wasim Akram was divorced

‘Divorce XI’: Shaniera hits out at social media page for claiming Wasim Akram was divorced

Former Pakistan cricket captain and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram recently became the victim of false information when a cricket page on social media included his name in a list titled “Divorce XI,” featuring cricketers who have gone through divorces.

The list, which included players from different countries, caught the attention of Akram’s wife, Shaniera Akram, who expressed her frustration over the misleading post.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Shaniera slammed the cricket page for spreading inaccurate information. Sharing the post, she wrote, “You people take everything out of context. Not only that, but you also lack accurate and reliable information.” She further urged social media users to verify facts before sharing such claims.

While Wasim Akram was previously married to Huma Mufti, who tragically passed away in 2009, he has never been divorced. In 2013, he married Australian-born Shaniera Akram, and the couple has a daughter, Aiyla.

The social media post also wrongly included former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble, who has been married to Chetana Ramatheertha since 1999. While Chetana was previously divorced, Kumble himself has never been through a divorce.

  • ‘Kohli was out!’: Lack of ICC rules awareness that cost Pakistan clash with India

‘Kohli was out!’: Lack of ICC rules awareness that cost Pakistan clash with India

Pakistan suffered a crucial defeat against India in the Champions Trophy match on Sunday, losing by six wickets, as Virat Kohli’s century led his team to victory. However, an unusual mistake by the former Indian captain in the 21st over, known as obstructing the field, presented an opportunity for Pakistan to dismiss him early, but they failed to capitalise on it.

The missed opportunity is said to be the result of a lack of awareness of ICC rules, allowing Kohli to continue his innings and ultimately score a match-winning century.

It was during India’s 21st over when Virat Kohli attempted a quick single off Haris Rauf’s delivery. As he reached the crease, he unexpectedly bent down and tried to stop an incoming throw with his hand. Surprisingly, there was no Pakistani fielder positioned behind him to collect the ball, making his action unnecessary and highly questionable.

The moment caught the attention of the commentators, particularly former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar, who expressed his disappointment. He pointed out that Kohli was extremely fortunate that none of the Pakistani players appealed.

Gavaskar suggested that Kohli could have been given out for “obstructing the field,” a dismissal under ICC rules when a batter deliberately interferes with the ball. However, since Kohli had already reached his crease before stopping the throw, there was no direct appeal from the fielding side.

Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja, who was commentating alongside Gavaskar, was left astonished. Just moments earlier, he had praised Kohli’s game awareness, only to witness such an avoidable mistake.

Raja humorously remarked, “I was just talking about his awareness, and now he does this!” He also stated that had the Pakistani players been more alert and appealed, the match could have taken a completely different turn.

This moment highlighted a critical flaw in Pakistan’s approach—their lack of awareness of cricket laws. Had they appealed, Kohli might have been sent back to the pavilion, significantly changing the outcome of the match.

What is the ‘Obstructing the Field’ rule in cricket?

Obstructing the Field is a rare mode of dismissal in cricket under Law 37, where a batter is given out if they deliberately use their bat, hand, or body to stop a fielder’s throw or interfere with play. However, if the batter instinctively protects themselves or is inside their crease without intentional obstruction, they are not out. Notable instances include Inzamam-ul-Haq (2006) and Ben Stokes (2015), both dismissed for deliberately stopping the ball.

  • Armughan confesses to killing Mustafa Amir after ‘coin toss’

Armughan confesses to killing Mustafa Amir after ‘coin toss’

Chilling new details have emerged in the Mustafa Amir murder case, as prime suspect Armaghan has confessed to the gruesome crime, revealing a horrifying game of chance that sealed Mustafa’s fate.

Police said that as soon as Mustafa Amir entered his home, Armughan ambushed him and struck him with an iron rod in a cold-blooded, well-planned assault. What happened after that, however, was far more unsettling.

By flipping a coin and telling Mustafa, ‘If it lands on heads, I’ll let you go; if it lands on tails, I’ll hit you again,’ investigators have revealed that Armughan played with his victim’s life like a predator goes with prey.

There were more vicious beatings as a result of the coin landing on tails twice. Armughan drove Mustafa to Hub, where his brutality increased. The injured boy was badly hurt and unable to fight back.

There, Armughan unlocked the car’s trunk and gave Mustafa one final teasing: “If you can save yourself, get up and run.” Mustafa, however, was barely conscious.

Then Armughan flipped the coin again, saying he would save Mustafa from being burnt alive if he lost again. However, like the previous two times, Mustafa lost.

He admitted that Mustafa was still inside the car when he drove it from Khayaban-e-Mohafiz to Dareji and then set it on fire. Additionally, the suspect acknowledged using a rifle to fire three warning shots, none of which were directed at the victim.

Before locating Mustafa’s burned remains, investigators conducted a 130-kilometer search in the remote region.

    Case summary:

After Mustafa Amir was reported missing on January 6, his murder shocked Karachi. When his torched automobile was found in the Hub region of Balochistan, the case which had been first suspected of being a kidnapping took a terrible turn.

The presence of Mustafa’s remains within the car was verified by forensic evidence. Several people were arrested when police were able to link the incident to his own group of close friends. According to reports, the suspects were part of a planned conspiracy with power dynamics and personal grudges at play.

Sahir Hasan, the son of well-known actor Sajid Hasan, is among the suspects who have been taken into custody. His role in the case has increased public interest and sparked inquiries regarding the motives and histories of the perpetrators.

Investigators put together Mustafa’s final moments using CCTV footage, digital records, and witness accounts. Evidence indicated that the boy was led to a meeting under false pretenses, then attacked and kidnapped. Armughan’s confession has filled in many missing pieces, exposing not only a vicious murder but also the cruel psychological game that Mustafa had no chance of winning.

  • Imran Khan reacts to Pakistan’s exit from Champions Trophy

Imran Khan reacts to Pakistan’s exit from Champions Trophy

Legendary cricketer and former Pakistan captain Imran Khan has reacted to the national team’s early exit from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

According to media reports, Imran Khan spent most of his time discussing cricket during a meeting with Aleema khan at Adiala Jail. The 1992 World Cup-winning captain had watched the Pakistan vs India match on PTV and was reportedly furious over the team’s poor performance.

While speaking to journalists at Adiala Jail on Tuesday, Imran Khan criticized what he termed the selection of individuals based on favouritism, stating that it was ruining Pakistan cricket. “When you appoint people based on connections rather than merit, the result is destruction,” he said.

He also lashed out at Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s current Interior Minister and PCB chairman. “First, he was appointed Punjab’s Chief Minister, where he caused havoc. Then, he became the Interior Minister and did the same. Any honourable person would have resigned after such failures, but Mohsin Naqvi will not,” an irate Imran commented.

The 72-year-old former cricketer questioned Naqvi’s credentials in sports administration. “What experience does he have in cricket? If someone treats the nation’s passion for cricket as a joke, they are insulting the people. In just two years, they have turned Pakistan cricket into a laughing stock,” he opined.

“If you give control of cricket to favourites instead of professionals, this is what happens,” he said, referring to Pakistan’s early exit from the Champions Trophy.

Pakistan, the host nation and defending champions, were knocked out of the tournament after consecutive defeats against New Zealand and India.

The team is set to play its final group match against Bangladesh on February 27 in Rawalpindi. From Group A, India and New Zealand have secured their spots in the semi-finals.

  • Champions Trophy: Rain washes out Australia-South Africa  clash in Rawalpindi

Champions Trophy: Rain washes out Australia-South Africa  clash in Rawalpindi

The Champions Trophy match between Australia and South Africa in Rawalpindi has been cancelled amid persistent rain.

The crucial Group B encounter was initially delayed as light rain continued to disrupt the schedule. The toss was set for 1:30 p.m., and the match was expected to begin at 2:00 p.m., but the weather conditions prevented even the toss from taking place.

As a result of the washout, both teams have been awarded one point each. Match officials confirmed that the ground remained too wet for play, making it impossible to proceed with the game.

With this outcome, both Australia and South Africa now have three points each, placing them in first and second positions, respectively, in Group B.

The continuous rain in Rawalpindi has raised concerns over the Champions Trophy schedule, as further disruptions could impact upcoming matches. Meanwhile, amid the wet conditions, Pakistan’s scheduled practice session for the evening was also cancelled.

  • Parents are to blame for rising divorces, says Behrooz Sabzwari

Parents are to blame for rising divorces, says Behrooz Sabzwari

Renowned actor Behrooz Sabzwari has stirred a heated debate online by holding parents and girls responsible for increasing divorce rates in society.

Recently, he appeared on a private channel’s morning show with his wife, Safina Behrooz, where the couple openly discussed their long and successful marriage.

Speaking about his relationship, Behrooz Sabzwari credited his wife for his success. “Safina is the secret of my good fortune. I achieved a lot of success after marrying her,” he said.

His wife, Safina Behrooz, echoed similar sentiments, saying, “After so many years of marriage, love, care, and respect have only grown.” She added, “My husband takes more care of me.”

The veteran actor emphasized the unique bond between spouses. “There is no alternative to the love of parents, and the love of children cannot be denied either. However, there is no parallel of the closeness between husband and wife,” he stated.
“No one else can give the same support that a husband and wife provide to each other,” he added.
Safina Behrooz highlighted the sacrifices women make in marriage, saying, “A woman makes more sacrifices to make a marriage successful.”

He stressed the importance of patience in a relationship, attributing his marital stability to his wife’s efforts. “For a successful marriage, there should be tolerance in the relationship, and my wife played a vital role in keeping my family together,” he remarked.

However, his comments on gender roles and divorce sparked controversy. “The role of the man should be more important than the woman in arranging a marriage,” he asserted. “Even if the girl is mentally ill, the husband should treat her with love and affection.”
Discussing rising divorce rates, he expressed concern over extravagant weddings ending in breakups. “Marriages worth crores of rupees end in just a few months,” he observed.

Blaming modern parenting, he remarked, “Tolerance has disappeared among girls these days.”

Targeting parents, he said, “Before marriage, parents spoil their daughters with unnecessary pampering. They tell them, ‘We have arranged such an expensive wedding, so don’t worry about the future, don’t be afraid.’”

He further claimed that such an attitude gives women a sense of entitlement. “That is why after marriage, the girl feels like she has come with a hunter in her hand and does whatever she wants in her new house,” he said.

According to Behrooz Sabzwari, “The domineering thinking of girls is not tolerated by their husbands, which is why mental harmony cannot be achieved, resulting in divorce.”

His remarks have ignited discussions on social media, with many questioning his comments and calling him misogynistic.
