  • Lahore’s biker lane paint washes away in rain

Lahore’s biker lane paint washes away in rain

Thursday’s rain showers in Lahore have resulted in multiple videos surfacing online, showing that the green paint of Punjab government’s Bike Lane on Ferozpur Road has washed away, turning the track into a slippery hazard.

It can be seen in a video that the Bike Lane turned black from green, with one person heard saying that the road has lost almost 70 percent of its green colour. “Green colour has gone into drains,” the man filming the video can be heard saying.

Last month, dedicated lanes for cyclists and motorcyclists were introduced on Lahore’s Ferozpur Road, painted green and orange. As per  media reports, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) had spent over Rs110 million on the paint alone.

On the directives of Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Maryam Nawaz, LDA had started constructing the 10-kilometre (KM) dedicated biker lane from Canal Road to Lahore Bridge on Ferozepur Road. The 12-foot-wide lanes are separated by curbs and green paint, promising better traffic flow and biker safety.

Orange and green colours were used to improve the visibility during the test run of the biker lane on Ferozpur Road.

Multiple videos showing the green Bike Lane returning back to its tarmac colour have emerged online, with internet users demanding that the contractor be held accountable.

Politician Moonis Elahi took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a picture of the eroded painted on Friday, writing, “Millions of rupees in publicity, billions of rupees in lime! The first rain in Lahore washed away all the dirt and artificial paint from the […] exhibition bike lane.”

“The paint on Lahore’s Motorcycle Green Line faded away after the first rain. Even the cheapest paint doesn’t wash off after just one rain. It seems like the contractor used lime instead of paint, which couldn’t even withstand a single downpour,” a social media user said while lambasting the road contractor.

Another user quipped that the first rain had washed away the magician’s green paint, and now motorcyclists are wandering the streets in search of their Green Line.

“Just a few days ago, the green and red bikers’ lane was painted at a cost of millions, hailed as a revolutionary project. But after just one rain, the colours have faded away. Public tax money is being lost to corruption, yet anyone who dares to question it,” lamented another user.

Rakhi Sawant sends 20 Muslims for Umrah

Rakhi Sawant, the ever-controversial yet kind-hearted Bollywood diva, has made headlines once again, but this time for a very personal and spiritual cause. After converting to Islam, the actress, who now goes by Rakhi Fatima, sponsored Umrah for 20 Muslims, including 10 Indians and 10 Pakistanis. Her generous act, which was revealed via a video message from Dubai, has gone viral on social media, with many people applauding her compassion.

Rakhi said in a heartfelt video that she wanted to perform the deed of kindness prior to the holy month of Ramadan. “I am covering the cost of sending ten Indian and ten Pakistani brothers and sisters for Umrah. I wanted to do something for Allah’s sake before Ramadan,” she said.

Rakhi personally distributed Ihrams (special pilgrimage robes) while standing among the pilgrims. “I shall be presenting these brothers with ihrams while I’m in Dubai. I’ve never done anything like this before, so I’m a little anxious,” she said. With enthusiasm and sincerity in her voice, she continued, “May Allah accept my good deed.”

Before the pilgrims left for Saudi Arabia, Rakhi gave them food, as seen in photos and videos. Numerous others were spotted giving her hugs and expressing gratitude for fulfilling their longtime desire to perform Umrah.

Ever since Rakhi converted to Islam prior to her second marriage, there has been much discussion about her spiritual path. She still maintains her faith, though, and appears to be committed to helping others in spite of her personal hardships and failed marriage. Although her private life sometimes garners media attention and controversies, this time around her kindness is earning her raves.

Social media is abuzz with responses as the story goes viral, with some people doubting her motivations and others expressing their sincere gratitude for her effort. Whatever the viewpoints, one thing is for sure, Rakhi Sawant has once again managed to surprise everyone, but this time with a long-lasting gesture of generosity and faith.

  • ‘Even I can hit a six’: Azma Bokhari mocks Pakistan team after NZ loss

‘Even I can hit a six’: Azma Bokhari mocks Pakistan team after NZ loss

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has criticised Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi following the national team’s poor performance in their opening match of the 2025 Champions Trophy.

She stated that despite earlier promises of a “surgery” to fix the team’s issues, no real changes have been made.

“I had high hopes for Fakhar. If he performs well, he can single-handedly win the match. Saim Ayub was playing well but, unfortunately, got injured. Now, I believe the team’s main hope lies in fast bowler Naseem Shah,” she said, speaking to a private TV channel.

She also criticised Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi, accusing them of focusing more on advertisements than their game. “Babar was once the king of cricket, but now it seems he doesn’t know whether he’s playing Test or ODI cricket. He appears unsure of his role, and people once feared Shaheen’s swinging deliveries. But now, the situation has changed as they seem too busy with advertisements,” she remarked.

“They can’t bowl, they can’t bat, and they can’t even field properly. It looked like even I could hit sixes on these deliveries,” she added.

Referring to Pakistan’s crushing defeat against New Zealand in their Champions Trophy opener, Bokhari also took aim at PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

“After Pakistan’s disastrous World Cup performance, it was promised that the team would go through a major ‘surgery’ to fix its problems. However, no such ‘surgery or drips’ were given, and the team remains unchanged,” the minister said.

Pakistan suffered a 60-run loss to New Zealand in the Champions Trophy opener, leaving the national team struggling yet again in an ICC event. As a result, Pakistan finds itself in the familiar “ifs and buts” situation after the first match of another international tournament.

Pakistan’s next match is against arch-rivals India on Sunday in Dubai, a crucial fixture that could decide their fate in the tournament.

‘Cosmetic enhancements’ or ‘weight gain’: Internet debates Komal Meer’s transformation

Pakistani actress Komal Meer has gone viral on the internet after her most recent photo shoot, leaving fans in awe and intrigued by her remarkable transformation. While some people like her new appearance, others question why she changed so quickly, fueling viral discussions across social media.

Netizens, who always have a keen interest in celebrity transformations, have been discussing whether Komal’s enhanced features are the consequence of cosmetic surgery or natural weight gain. Some people think she’s just gained a healthy weight, while others think the difference could be because of fillers or other cosmetic procedures. As usual, there is a lot to say on the internet, and responses are mixed.

Some even made comparisons between Komal’s recent pictures and her earlier appearances. Reactions vary from praise for her transformation to doubts about its authenticity.

One person supported the actress by writing, “Even if she got fillers, it’s her choice.” Another user said, “This is not weight gain, this is lip and cheek fillers.”

Fans are left in suspense as Komal Meer has not responded to the rumours despite the online discussion.

  • Mustafa Amir case: Medical board to supervise murder probe

Mustafa Amir case: Medical board to supervise murder probe

A medical board will supervise the investigation into the murder of 23-year-old Mustafa Amir, which will be overseen by a court magistrate. Officials have been tasked with obtaining DNA samples to determine the cause of death. Security measures have been reinforced, and investigating officer Muhammad Ali Noorani has been assigned to oversee security and logistics.

Armaghan, the key suspect, admitted to murdering Mustafa during interrogation the day before. Sharing the details, he recalled that Mustafa was still semi-conscious when his car caught fire. Armaghan acknowledged physically attacking him and firing three warning shots that did not strike him. He also indicated that if he had known the police were approaching his home earlier on February 8, the exchange of fire might have been prolonged.

Law enforcement officers have confirmed that his confession was recorded on tape.

Mustafa Amir went missing on January 6, and his mother received a ransom call weeks later. On January 12, Karachi police discovered an unidentified scorched body inside a burning automobile at the Hub checkpoint. The body was originally turned over to the Edhi Foundation for burial as an unclaimed case.

Further investigations revealed that Armaghan allegedly abducted and murdered Mustafa and had demanded Rs20 million in ransom from his parents. Following a gunfight, police arrested Armaghan and recovered Mustafa’s phone and other belongings from his residence, which served as crucial evidence. Another suspect, Shiraz Bukhari, was detained and provided evidence consistent with statements from Armaghan’s household staff.

Authorities have since uncovered Armaghan’s long criminal background, which includes narcotics trafficking, extortion, and other illegal activities. He was allegedly connected to a drug cartel and operated an illegal software company and phone centre that scammed overseas clients. Investigators also accuse Mustafa of narcotics distribution, as records show that he was charged on January 4 with supplying drugs in affluent Karachi neighbourhoods.

Armaghan’s father, Kamran Qureshi, has publicly defended his son, claiming Mustafa was a narcotics supplier. He also justified his son’s decision to open fire on the police during the raid, stating that it was to protect confidential data at his software company.

Following mismanagement of the case, three police officers were suspended for failing to make progress sooner. The victim’s mother accused police authorities of negligence and victim-blaming, prompting a formal investigation into their actions.

Officials are still probing into other possibilities, with DNA confirmation and forensic analysis critical in the next stages of the investigation.

The end of CSS? Govt set to introduce new exam system

The federal government’s Civil Service Reform Committee is set to end the Central Superior Service (CSS) examinations, paving the way for cluster based exams, a report by investigative journalist Ansar Abbasi has revealed.

A source within the committee told the senior journalist that a cluster based system of examinations will be recommended to the federal cabinet, emphasising specialists over generalists in the country’s bureaucracy.

The committee is finalising reforms in compensations and pensions of civil servants. After one last pending meeting, the recommendations will be presented to the government.

The cluster based system will ensure the admission of qualified professionals for specific technical roles.

The CSS exam, currently conducted by the Federal Public Service Commission, relies on a uniform set of exams where passing individuals are sent to serve in different departments without any specific consideration of their academic background.

‘Right people for right positions’: Afridi says Mohsin Naqvi should seek advice from cricketing experts

Former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has advised Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi to appoint the right people in the right positions.

Speaking on a TV show with Nadeem Malik after Pakistan’s home defeat to New Zealand, he said, “Mohsin Naqvi should consult his seniors or experienced individuals who understand international cricket and focus on building the system. You don’t need too many people for advice—five, six, or ten are enough.”

“For example, when Mohammad Yousuf joined, he made a plan outlining what he would do in the next four to six months. But the main point remains—the right person should be in the right position,” he added.

Pakistan suffered a loss to New Zealand in the opening match of the Champions Trophy on February 19 at National Stadium, Karachi.

Following this defeat, the Pakistan cricket team and the selection committee have faced criticism from fans and former cricketers.

Earlier, Pakistan also lost two matches in the tri-nation series against New Zealand at the same venue.

    PAK vs NZ match summary

New Zealand started their ICC Champions Trophy campaign with a commanding 60-run victory over Pakistan in the opening match of the tournament at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.

Chasing a target of 321 runs, Pakistan’s batting lineup faltered predictably, with the team getting bowled out for 260 runs. Khushdil Shah was the top scorer with 69 runs, while Babar Azam contributed 64 runs.

Salman Agha added 42, Fakhar Zaman scored 24, and Haris Rauf chipped in with 19 runs. Shaheen Shah Afridi added 14, Naseem Shah 13, Saud Shakeel 6, Captain Mohammad Rizwan 3 and Tayyab Tahir scored one run.

New Zealand’s Will O’Rourke and captain Mitchell Santner took three wickets each. Matt Henry claimed two wickets, while Michael Bracewell and Nathan Smith picked up one wicket each.

Earlier in the day, New Zealand posted a solid total of 320/5 in their 50 overs after being invited to bat first. However, their innings did not begin smoothly, as they lost three wickets for just 73 runs. Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell were dismissed for 10 runs each, while captain Kane Williamson fell for just one run.

New Zealand stabilized their innings with a crucial 118-run partnership between Will Young and Tom Latham. Young played a brilliant knock of 107 runs before getting out.

Following Young’s dismissal, Latham and Glenn Phillips added another 125 runs to strengthen New Zealand’s total. Phillips was dismissed in the 49.4th over after scoring 61 runs, while Latham remained unbeaten on 118.

For Pakistan, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah took two wickets each, while Abrar Ahmed claimed one.
