  • ‘If Pakistan win this tri-series, other teams should drink poison and die,’ says Dr Nauman Niaz

‘If Pakistan win this tri-series, other teams should drink poison and die,’ says Dr Nauman Niaz

Pakistan cricket correspondent and television host Dr Nauman Niaz believes that if the poorly selected Pakistan team wins the triangular tournament, then the rest of the international teams should drink poison and die.

During a live stream on the YouTube channel Caught Behind on Wednesday, Dr Nauman and former wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif discussed Pakistan’s win over South Africa in the tri-nation series.

Nauman said, “This combination has been selected in such a way that it includes crippled, limping, broken, useless players—an unfairly selected Pakistan team, full of intellectual dishonesty. If this team wins—if this wins—people are criticizing, but they are not calling it pathetic, which is wrong.”

“I did not call the team pathetic, and I will never say that, ever. I said it was selected in a pathetic manner, in an unfair way,” he clarified.

He further stated, “If this poorly selected team wins the triangular tournament, then the rest of the international teams should just poison themselves and die. They should not play the Champions Trophy and should just go home.”

It is worth mentioning that Pakistan outclassed South Africa in the third ODI of the tri-series in Karachi.

Batting first, South Africa scored 352 runs, losing five wickets.

In response, Pakistan chased down the target in the 49th over, losing just four wickets.

Captain Mohammad Rizwan and vice-captain Salman Ali Agha played outstanding unbeaten centuries, guiding their team to a remarkable win.

‘Toxic’ food at Lahore marquee lands all wedding guests in hospital

Punjab Food Authority has lodged an FIR against the owners of a marquee in Lahore’s Johar Town when 350 guests at a wedding fell ill after consuming the food served at the venue.

Reports indicate that all the guests complained of nausea, vomiting and severe stomach ache at the wedding held on Tuesday night, prompting them all to be shifted to various hospitals in the vicinity.

While the majority of the guests were shifted to private hospitals, nearly a hundred were taken to government facilities where the condition of nine patients is said to be critical.

A food safety officer has alleged in the FIR that unhygienic food was served to the wedding guests. After the Department was informed by a guest about the illnesses, inspection teams were dispatched to the venue to collect samples.

Sheikh Mohammad Javed, the owner of the marquee, has been nominated in the FIR for not maintaining hygiene standards at the cooking spot.

The venue had been booked by Sarfaraz, a resident of Khayaban-e-Amin, for his wedding. He has accused the owner of the marquee of serving sub-standard food to the guests.

Man commits suicide after killing four children

In a disturbing update from Swabi district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a man committed suicide after slaughtering all four of his children.

According to rescue officials, the tragic incident took place in Yar Hussain. The bodies have been shifted to the local Hospital.

The children killed were aged between the ages of two to 12, including two sons and two daughters. The deceased have been identified as 12-year-old Zia, 10-year-old Abdul Rahman, and eight-year-old Sana.

According to rescue officials, the father killed the children with a sharp instrument and then took his own life.

Further investigations are underway, according to the police.

Similarly, in another news from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a widow committed self-immolation in Peshawar. In CCTV footage obtained by a private news channel, she can reportedly be seen pouring petrol on herself and her child. Neighbours tried to stop her, according to her sister. Assistant Additional Commissioner Town forcibly vacated the sister’s house.

The burqa-clad woman enters the house’s gate and brings out a chair. In her hand, she holds a bottle of gasoline. The woman spills the gasoline and sprays it on herself.

A neighbour ran to stop the woman from self-immolating and also tried to rescue the child. The woman, however, closed the door of the house and set herself on fire.

According to the sister of the woman who had set herself on fire on February 7, she was treated in the hospital for five days, after which she passed away, succumbing to the burns.

Family members of the woman had blocked Khyber Road by placing the body outside the provincial assembly to protest her death. However, the protesters ended the demonstration after assurances that an FIR would be registered against AAC and other individuals involved in the incident.

Cases of suicide also surfaced in Pakistan in 2024.

In February last year, the head of a household in Chakwal, suffering from financial problems, committed suicide after killing his wife and children.

According to the police, Shafqat Saleem committed suicide after killing all four of his children and his wife in Muzdalifah Town area in Chakwal city.
Police say that Shafqat Saleem shot himself after calling the police on the 15 helpline. His other victims were two daughters aged 14 and 16 years, and two sons aged 13 and 17 years.

According to the preliminary investigation as reported by Geo, the victim had financial problems that he could not cope with.

  • Rajat Patidar named RCB captain for IPL 2025

Rajat Patidar named RCB captain for IPL 2025

Indian cricketer Rajat Patidar has been appointed as the new captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Many fans expected Virat Kohli to take over the captaincy after RCB did not retain Faf du Plessis, who led the team from 2022 to 2024.

The announcement was made in Bengaluru at an event attended by RCB’s team director, Muhammad Bobat, head coach Andy Flower, and Patidar. The 31-year-old batter has been with RCB since 2021, playing 28 matches and scoring 799 runs at a strike rate of 158.85.

Coach Andy Flower praised Patidar for his calmness and leadership qualities, while Muhammad Bobat revealed that Kohli was also considered for the role. However, they ultimately chose Patidar as they preferred an Indian captain and believed he was ready for the challenge.

Patidar has gained leadership experience by captaining Madhya Pradesh in domestic tournaments like the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. He was also one of the three players RCB retained before the IPL 2025 mega auction.

RCB has never won an IPL title but has reached the final three times, with the last appearance in 2016. They made the playoffs in four of the previous five seasons, including in 2024, when they won six consecutive matches to qualify but lost in the Eliminator.

With RCB appointing Patidar, only Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) have yet to announce their captains for IPL 2025.

  • Did The Simpsons predict Pakistan winning Champions Trophy 2025?

Did The Simpsons predict Pakistan winning Champions Trophy 2025?

A viral image on social media claims that the famous animated series The Simpsons has predicted Pakistan’s victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

The show has long been known for its uncanny predictions about future events, including Donald Trump’s presidency, Kamala Harris’ defeat, California wildfires, and even the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of these predictions, made decades ago, have surprisingly come true.

The Champions Trophy is set to begin on February 19, with Pakistan serving as both the host nation and the defending champion. Amid the excitement, social media users have been widely sharing an image suggesting that The Simpsons has predicted Pakistan’s triumph in the tournament.

However, for Pakistani cricket fans celebrating this so-called prediction, there’s an important clarification: the viral image is not from the original Simpsons series. Instead, it is an AI-generated creation meant to mislead people.

Many social media users have pointed this out, with some calling it an “AI trick,” while others humorously commented that, given Pakistan’s current team selection, this might be the first time The Simpsons gets a prediction wrong.

Pakistan won its first-ever Champions Trophy title in 2017 under Sarfaraz Ahmed’s captaincy, defeating arch-rivals India by 180 runs in the final at The Oval.

The Green Shirts will begin their title defence on February 19 at Karachi’s National Stadium against New Zealand.

The much-anticipated Pakistan-India clash is scheduled for February 23 in Dubai.

  • Marwat says he is ‘deeply saddened’ after Imran expells him from PTI

Marwat says he is ‘deeply saddened’ after Imran expells him from PTI

Firebrand leader Sher Afzal Marwat has released a response hours after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan expelled him from the party.

Marwat took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday (today) to state that he always remained loyal to Imran Khan and will stand by his principals. “I am deeply saddened by the recent decision, which seems influenced by individuals who have never accepted me within the party,” he said.

Marwat stated that he would  explain his position on Thursday night, noting, “I trust that PTI workers, who have fought for justice alongside me, will continue to stand for what is right.”

“PTI must uphold its core values of democracy, transparency, and justice. True loyalty is not about blind obedience but about ensuring that our movement stays on the right path. Khan Sahib is, and will always remain, my leader. My struggle is not for personal gain but for the integrity of PTI and the vision we all share,” he wrote.

Marwat’s expulsion notification, which was posted on PTI’s official X account on Wednesday night, read, “Further to the Show Cause Notice issued to Mr Sher Afzal Marwat and his subsequent reply, the party has considered his reply and also his actions subject to the Show Cause notice.”

“Taking both these aspects into consideration and on the instructions of Founding Chairman Imran Khan, Mr. Sher Afzal Marwat is being expelled from the party with immediate effect.”

Marwat’s termination came just three days after the former ruling party staged a rally in Swabi against what it believes was the rigged election in 2024.

A media report claims that the PTI leaders complained to Imran Khan about Marwat’s behaviour at the February 8 Swabi public gathering.

During his speech, Marwat cryptically said that “bad people” always became helpful during “bad times”, but some “good people in good times” have zipped their lips.

Last month, PTI issued a show-cause notice to the lawmaker for violation of the party discipline for his remarks against the party’s Secretary General Salman Akram Raja at a private news channel.

The maverick leader challenged Raja’s position in the party, saying that according to the party constitution, Raja cannot become the party’s secretary general. “Only the elected person who has contested an intra-party election is eligible for the position of party secretary-general,” he explained.

He went on to say that Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and Firdous Shamim Naqvi are public officeholders. “Salman Akram Raja is a stranger [to the party],” he added.

Marwat’s scathing attack on Raja follows when the PTI Secretary General, while speaking on the private media outlet, had downplayed Marwat’s claims, which he recently linked to party founder Imran Khan, saying, “Only two or four party members are deemed capable of having the right to speak about the party.

“Marwat statement has nothing to do with the party’s official narrative. His [Marwat] statements are unimportant,” Raja said.

  • Karachi man files case against friend for stealing his expensive dogs

Karachi man files case against friend for stealing his expensive dogs

A man in Karachi has filed a case against his friend, suspecting him of stealing an expensive pair of huskies.

Dog trainer Nelson has filed a case at the Darakshan police station against his friend Eric, suspecting him of stealing the dogs from a house in DHA.

Nelson has charged Eric with familiarising himself with the dogs before getting the dogs out of the house and fleeing with them.

Police have started an investigation into the case.

Huskies are native to polar regions where they work as sled dogs. The heavy coated dogs are ideal for snow-covered winter lands, with a high tolerance for cold temperatures.

In the past few years, the dogs have become popular in Pakistan, with many dog lovers keeping them as pets. However, vets generally warn against keeping the dogs as they are extremely intolerant of the high temperatures that are usually in the summers in the country.

A well-bred Husky can sell for as much as PKR 200,000.
