‘One more millimeter and….. paralysis’; Saif Ali Khan opens up about attack

Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan has opened up about the stabbing attack that left him hospitalised after an intruder entered his home on January 16, leading to a violent confrontation.

The A-lister told an Indian publication that he and his wife Kareena Kapoor were sleeping in their room when a member of the house staff came running inside to warm them of an intruder in their younger son Jeh’s room.

Saif said that the attacker was wielding two knives and demanding money. When Saif attempted to subdue him, he retaliated by repeatedly stabbing the actor. “I couldn’t handle it after a while as there were two knives in action. I was praying that someone could get this guy off me,” Saif stated.

Finally the nanny Geeta managed to pull him back and then the two locked the attacker in Jeh’s room. However, he managed to escape from there.

Since no driver was available at the time, Saif took a rickshaw to reach Lelavati Hospital along with a house help named Hari and his young son Taimoor.

Inside the rickshaw, Taimoor, who had insisted on coming along, asked, “Are you going to die?” Saif replied, “No.”

At the hospital, the Nawab was told that his injuries were far more serious than he thought. Doctors told him that one knife had punctured his shoulder blade and come dangerously close to the spinal cord. “It came really close to being paralyzed. One more millimeter, and we’d be talking paralysis,” the actor narrated.

The star was surprised at the attacker missing his jugular, despite landing a knife on his neck: “I don’t understand how he missed my carotid artery and jugular vein… it’s not possible to cut somebody’s neck the way my neck is cut and not kill them.”

The Nawab of Pataudi said that though the attack left him with “30 of the most awful” scars, he was relieved that the attack had not left him with more serious injuries.

A policeman suspected of aerial firing on his wedding has been arrested along with his companions after a young child was killed on Sunday by a stray bullet in Lyari’s Musa Lane.

Karachi police have confirmed to local media that the groom, Aftab Ahmad, is a police constable posted in the office of the Police Chief. He has now been charged in the case along with seven other suspects and four unknown individuals.

Initial reports suggest that Aftab and his friends indulged in aerial firing in the Police Quarters near Docks Police Station. SMGs, 9 mm pistols and 30-bore rifles were allegedly used in the aerial firing to celebrate Aftab’s marriage.

Police have said that the point where the men were firing into the air and the spot where the child was hit were separated by a distance of just one kilometer.

Hayat Fatima was inside her eighth floor apartment when the bullet hit her on the head. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Karachi where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police are working to investigate whether the guns used at Aftab’s wedding match the bullet that killed the child.

Mir Hamza says Babar Azam has this rare ability

Pakistani fast bowler Mir Hamza recently shared a funny story about Babar Azam on the comedy show Hasna Mana Hai on Geo.

The host, Tabish Hashmi, asked him, “If Babar Azam is batting and needs two runs to win, and you have played against him in PSL, what will you do?”

Mir Hamza replied, “Babar Azam is our best player. Let me tell you a story about him. When I was bowling to him in PSL, it felt like he was reading the ball. After I bowled, I saw Babar looking at me, watching which side of the ball I was shining.”

He added, “Babar played two or three deliveries calmly, and I felt like he was observing my bowling. So, the next time I went to bowl, I tried to hide the ball while shining it. But Babar smiled as if he already knew what I was doing.”

Mir Hamza said, “I think Babar Azam can predict the bowler’s next delivery before it is even bowled.”

As of now, Babar Azam has continuously failed to score big runs since 2023.

Indian stadium goes dark amid campaign against Qaddafi’s lighting

A day after Indian fans mocked Pakistan for the lighting at Gaddafi Stadium during the match between Pakistan and New Zealand, karma seemed to strike back.

On January 8, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra was hit by a ball on the eyebrows during a catch attempt. Following this, Indian fans began mocking the lighting at Gaddafi Stadium.

However, during the India versus England match at Barabati Stadium on Sunday, the stadium lights went off, leaving both players and spectators in shock.

Social media exploded with reactions, as Pakistanis were quick to remind Indian fans of their recent trolling of the stadium lights. Many called it poetic justice, while others couldn’t help but laugh at the irony of the situation.

Monkey caused nation-wide power outage, says Sri Lanka minister

A minister in Sri Lanka has blamed a nation-wide power outage in the island nation on a monkey that he said entered a main grid near Colombo.

“A monkey has come in contact with our grid transformer, causing an imbalance in the system,” Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody told members of the media on Sunday.

Electricity across the country disappeared around 11:00 am on Sunday, leaving most of its 22 million inhabitants without power for almost a full day.

While electricity is gradually being restored across the country, hospitals, clinics and water plants are being prioritised.

Sri Lanka went through multiple blackouts when it defaulted in 2022, leading to many relying on generators for their electric needs. While the country has greatly recovered from the tumultuous from the financial crisis, the power grid remains in a precarious position.
