  • English politicians call on team to boycott match against Afghanistan in Champions Trophy

English politicians call on team to boycott match against Afghanistan in Champions Trophy

English politicians have called for a boycott of the country’s match against Afghanistan in the Champions Trophy 2025.

More than 160 Members of Parliament (MPs), including former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and Reform leader Nigel Farage, have written to the English Cricket Board (ECB), stating: “The ECB should refuse to play the group match against Afghanistan on February 26. A boycott of the match with Afghanistan would be a clear message of intolerance against oppression. We urge the ECB to send a strong message of solidarity with Afghan women.”

On the other hand, the English Cricket Board is of the opinion that it cannot unilaterally decide to boycott the match against Afghanistan.

ECB Chief Executive Richard Gould said, “The England and Wales Cricket Board strongly condemns the Taliban’s treatment of women. Cricket is a source of hope for many Afghans and displaced Afghans. We will support a joint decision with all member countries.”

The ECB will continue its policy of not scheduling bilateral matches against Afghanistan, but they haven’t decided if they will boycott matches.

Individual cricket boards organize bilateral matches, but the ICC manages tournaments like the Champions Trophy. Since Afghanistan is allowed to participate by the ICC, England is expected to play against them as planned.

Australia has cancelled several men’s series against Afghanistan in recent years because of the Taliban regime’s restrictions on women.

However, they still played against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup.

  • I’m chilling’: YouTuber Luke Damant laughs off fake death rumours

I’m chilling’: YouTuber Luke Damant laughs off fake death rumours

Online death rumours often target celebrities. In the past such famous A-listers as Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt and Charlize Theron have been victims of the online fake death rumours mill.

Imagine being declared dead online, and laughing it off. That’s exactly what Australian YouTuber Luke  Damant did when fake death rumors about him spread across the internet.

The YouTuber, known for his adventurous travel vlogs and love for cheese parathas, recently became the subject of an unfounded rumor saying that he had passed away in Jalalabad, Afghanistan.

In his post, Damant jokingly wrote an obituary about his fake death, saying he turned into a cheese paratha while trying to break a Guinness World Record.

“Authorities are still trying to figure out how a man can possibly turn into a cheese paratha, but it is believed that the old saying is true…”

He expressed his disbelief over the rumors, saying he couldn’t believe people thought he was dead.

“I can’t believe I have to make this post. Guys, I’m f**ng chilling! I’ve been saying for years that the media fakes news, and now, hundreds of thousands of people think I’m dead in a single day,” Luke Damant said.

While he joked about the viral fake death news, Damant made it clear that he had nothing to do with the rumors. “As much as I’d love to take credit for this genius marketing, I have to call it off. It’s gotten out of hand.”

The mock obituary humorously detailed how Luke had tragically ‘had his last paratha’  while attempting to break a Guinness World Record for the most cheese parathas eaten in one hour.

“ After a strong start, getting to 14 within the first 30 minutes of the challenge. It was at number 15, where Luke didn’t chew his paratha, swallowed, and after a 30 second struggle, he magically turned into one,” Luke humourously wrote.

Despite the silly rumors, Luke Damant stays positive and keeps traveling, sharing his exciting adventures with his fans.

Hitman kills Lahore man for Umrah tickets

Lahore police have arrested a young hitman accused of killing another man on January 1 in exchange for two Umrah tickets and a motorcycle.

The youth hired to kill the man was identified as Usman. As per the police, he was allegedly hired by Imtiaz, deceased Muhammad Riaz’s brother-in-law, over a property dispute.

A police official informed the media that Imtiaz had a disagreement with his wife, which prompted him to hire a hitman to get her brother-in-law killed.

Previously, Imtiaz had transferred his house to his wife’s name, but after a domestic dispute, he demanded it back.

However, his wife refused to give it back, stating that she needed to consult her brother Riaz before making any decision. This aggravated the situation and led to a heated argument.

Provoked by the heated exchanges, Imtiaz’s wife left his home and moved in with her brother Riaz.

Enraged, Imtiaz allegedly hired Usman and promised him Umrah tickets and a motorbike to kill his brother-in-law Riaz. ARY News has reported that Imtiaz had also promised Rs. 30,000 as payment along with the tickets and motorcycle.

Sabzazaar police in Lahore tracked the suspects using the network of cameras monitored by Safe City Authority and examining call data records.

Investigating officers said that the killer was tracked through a phone call received on the deceased’s mobile phone. The victim was killed when he was shopping with his wife in the Badami Bagh area of Lahore when the hitman, accompanied by Imtiaz, arrived at the scene and shot him dead.

Police claim that the hitman even attended Riaz’s funeral.

The police arrested the shooter and are conducting raids for the arrest of the mastermind behind the killing.

Injured Bumrah likely to miss Champions Trophy

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is likely to miss the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 due to the inury he suffered against Australia.

As per the details, Bumrah suffered back pain in the first innings of the fifth Test against Australia in the bilateral Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly considering to rest Bumrah in the upcoming white-ball series against England so that he can be fully fit for the Champions Trophy.

However, Indian media reports said that the status of Bumrah’s injury was not yet clear and there was a chance of him not being able to participate in the tournament depending on the status of his injury.

If Bumrah has a Grade 1 injury, his recovery may take 2 to 3 weeks, a Grade 2 injury may increase his recovery time to 6 weeks while a Grade 3 injury could keep him off the field for 3 months, reports added.

Earlier, Bumrah bowled a total of 151.2 overs in the five Test matches against Australia and was the most successful bowler with 32 wickets.

India is scheduled to next play a five-match T20 series against England, which will start from January 22, followed by 3 ODIs.

On the other hand former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has criticized the Indian cricket team for overusing fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, likening it to extracting juice from a sugarcane machine.

India faced a crushing 3-1 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, leading to widespread disappointment among former cricketers, analysts, and fans. Amid the criticism, Harbhajan Singh specifically pointed out the excessive workload placed on Jasprit Bumrah.

In a statement on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan expressed his concerns about how Bumrah was used throughout the series. He said Bumrah was made to bowl whenever key Australian batsmen like Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, or Steve Smith came to bat. Harbhajan likened this to squeezing every last drop out of Bumrah, leaving him physically drained.

Harbhajan emphasized that Bumrah was overused, to the point where it significantly affected his fitness. He criticized the team management for not managing Bumrah’s workload more carefully. According to Harbhajan, this overuse contributed to Bumrah’s physical strain, which impacted his performance in the series.

He further added that if Bumrah had been managed better and remained fully fit, India might have won the fifth Test match.

Despite the criticisms, Bumrah’s performance in the series was noteworthy. He was named Player of the Series after taking an impressive 32 wickets in five Test matches.
