Jan Rambo reveals how his wife Sahiba met her father

Estranged parent-child relationship are a painful thing to observe. Being a celebrity can’t protect one from the pain of the broken relationship.

Actor Afzal Khan, also known as Jan Rambo, has revealed details of the emotional story behind his wife Sahiba’s first meeting with her biological father.

Appearing as a guest on Ahmed Ali Butt podcast, the Pagal Khaana actor opened up about Sahiba’s first meeting with her father Imam Rubani, revealing how he played a role in facilitating the reunion after 40 years.

Jan Rambo said, “When my father-in-law first contacted me, he told me that he had tried to meet Sahiba two or three times but couldn’t because he was nervous about facing his daughter.”

“When I found out that he genuinely wanted to meet her, I told Sahiba, ‘Your father wants to meet you.’ She responded, ‘I’ve never met him before, so what should I say when I meet him now,’” Jan Rambo continued.

The Baby Baji actor said that it took Sahiba an entire week to mentally prepare herself for the emotionally significant meeting with her father.

Earlier, a few month back on 28 March, 2024, Sahiba had her first meeting with her biological father. She informed her fans that it was her first time meeting her real father. In previous interviews, Sahiba disclosed that she had been raised by her stepfather. On her Instagram, she posted numerous pictures with her father, showing her excitement about their newfound connection.

Sahiba wrote, “Met my father for the first time in my life”. Here are the beautiful pictures shared by Sahiba:

Sahiba revealed that she met her father, Imam Rabbani, for the first time in her life on March 11th. This moment was incredibly special and emotional for her. Initially hesitant about sharing the video, she decided to upload it for her fans, considering she had already spoken about her father in several interviews.

Earlier, on 31 March 2024, veteran star Nisho Begum gives more insight into the emotional meeting.

Nisho Begum shared that Sahiba’s husband, Rambo, got a call during a show in Karachi, asking him to arrange a meeting between Sahiba and her biological father. Although hesitant at first, Rambo convinced Sahiba to meet her father, stressing the importance of family ties.

Sahiba was happy with how she grew up and her life with her husband. At first, she wasn’t sure about meeting her father. But Rambo convinced her with kindness. She agreed to meet her father, showing respect for her stepfather’s feelings.

Nisho Begum continues, explaining how she ultimately convinced Sahiba to meet Rabbani, believing it was the right thing to do. She also highlights Rambo’s supportive role, encouraging Sahiba to respect her biological father.

“I told Sahiba, ‘This is your father. You should meet him. It’s the right thing to do,’” Nisho Begum recalls.

During the reunion, Sahiba extended hospitality to her father, cooking for him and spending quality time together. Nisho recounted an earlier encounter when Sahiba was a child, unaware of her father’s identity, highlighting the complexity of their relationship over the years.

“At that time, Sahiba didn’t know who her father was. It was complicated,” she said.
At a wedding attended by guests from Gujrat, Sahiba’s father, Rabbani, expressed a desire to see his daughter. Though initially uncertain, Nisho Begum granted him permission, allowing him a brief glimpse into Sahiba’s life.

In February 2024, during an episode of Meri Maa, hosted by veteran actor Sajid Hasan, Sahiba said that although she never had the chance to meet her real father, she had a wonderful relationship with her step-father until he passed away.

The ‘Kanpain Tang Rahi Hain’ actor said, “I’ve never seen or met my real father. My mother had split up with him before I was born. My step-father, who I don’t even like to call ‘step,’ because he means more to me than my biological father, gave me a lot of love and affection.”

She added that it’s been five years since her beloved step-father passed away, and until his very last moment, she had a strong connection with him. “He was like a friend to me, someone I confided in with all my secrets, even ones I didn’t share with my mother. Because of him, I never felt the absence of a father in my life.”

“His name was Jamal Pasha, and he used to be a pilot. He also worked for TV channels,” Sahiba explained.

  • Pakistan second only to Myanmar in having most  internet shutdowns

Pakistan second only to Myanmar in having most  internet shutdowns

A recent study conducted by the Top10VPN collecting and aggregating data on internet disruptions around the globe ranked Pakistan second by the long hours of shutdowns in year 2024 at 1,861 hours, marking it the second country with the most shutdowns, behind Myanmar.

The shutdowns cost Pakistan an estimated 351 million dollars-second only to Myanmar.
Astoundingly, the study reveals that Pakistan has 83 million users and only over 40 percent are accounted for paving way for Pakistan to be in top 15 most vulnerable countries.

The report also revealed that the duration of internet shutdowns surged 619 percent from 259 hours in 2023 — rising up five notches from seventh place globally in the previous years.

Accompanying costs also increased by an additional 114million dollars.

Notably, in a statement given by Pakistan Software House Association’s (P@SHA) Chairman Sajjad Syed claimed that each hour of internet outage costs one million dollars.

Dawn’s Mutaher Khan quoted Cloudflare which claimed that the country has seen an annual decline in web traffic for most of 2024. Over this period, Pakistan’s peak growth was three percent, compared to global 17 percent.

It is worth mentioning that the average download speed in Pakistan in the past one year was around 22MBps, lagging well behind countries like the Philippines (97MBps), Bangladesh (37MBps) and Indonesia (31MBps).

Meanwhile, Syed Sajid Mehdi, the Parliamentary Secretary for the Cabinet Division, urged people to use the internet “less” and for “important matters only”.

His unique suggestion was a solution to recurrent internet shutdowns and slow speed in Pakistan.

The parliamentary secretary also disapproved of the claim that internet slowdowns were causing financial losses to the IT sector of the country.

“We have not been told officially that the shutdown has caused financial losses. Nobody has filed any requests or complaints about financial losses.

“If anyone has suffered personal losses, then that is a different matter entirely,” he said.

However, addressing the longstanding concerns, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has confirmed the laying down of a major undersea cable that is expected to enhance connection speeds in the country.

  • PCB’s biggest controversies of 2024

    PCB’s biggest controversies of 2024

2024 has been a year of chaos for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), with controversies at every turn. Here are the biggest challenges, from leadership changes to team disputes, that the Board faced this year.

Appointment of Mohsin Naqvi as PCB Chairman

In February, Mohsin Naqvi, who was serving as the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, was appointed the 37th chairman of the PCB. His selection drew criticism from various quarters, primarily because of his limited cricketing background. Critics argued that his appointment was politically motivated rather than based on merit.

    PSL 2024 Controversies

Spectators were reportedly barred from bringing pro-Palestinian banners into stadiums, sparking outrage on social media. The PCB faced backlash for its perceived suppression of free expression.

Several fans were arrested for chanting slogans in support of former Prime Minister Imran Khan during matches, raising concerns over political interference.

Restructuring of the National Selection Committee

Under Naqvi’s leadership, the PCB revamped the National Selection Committee, increasing its size to seven members with equal voting power. The move was intended to make the decision-making process more democratic but was met with scepticism.

Muhammad Amir and Imad Wasim, who had both retired, were included in the T20 World Cup squad.

    Shaheen Afridi’s Removal as Captain

The PCB made the controversial decision to remove Shaheen Afridi as the captain of Pakistan’s T20 team, citing the need for “strategic changes” and “better team dynamics”. But insiders claimed it stemmed from disagreements between Afridi and the management. After his removal, Babar Azam was appointed as captain before the T20 World Cup 2024.

Poor Performance in the T20 World Cup

Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup was one of the year’s most spectacular failures. The team failed to progress beyond the group stage, suffering defeats against lower-ranked teams, including the United States. The dismal outcome sparked outrage among fans and analysts, who criticized the PCB for poor planning, inadequate preparation, and flawed team selection.

Dismissal of selectors Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq

Following the T20 World Cup disaster, the PCB dismissed selectors Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq, holding them responsible for the team’s failure. Both Riaz and Razzaq defended their tenure, pointing fingers at systemic issues within the PCB.

    Controversial central contracts

Yet another controversy sprang up when PCB announced the details of central contracts for the 2024-25 season. Fakhar Zaman was excluded from the central contract following a Tweet in favour of Babar Azam. Many saw this as punitive and demotivating, especially since he had been a key performer for Pakistan in the past.

Termination and reinstatement of Haris Rauf’s central contract

Haris Rauf faced a temporary termination of his central contract after opting to play in the Big Bash League instead of a home series. The PCB reinstated his contract after he clarified his position, but the incident highlighted miscommunication and strained player-Board relations.

    Resignation of Coach Jason Gillespie

Former Australian cricketer Jason Gillespie resigned as Pakistan’s red-ball coach, citing “irreconcilable differences” with the PCB. His departure just before a crucial Test series against South Africa added to the turmoil, with critics pointing to PCB’s mismanagement and lack of a cohesive strategy as contributing factors.

    India’s sabotage of Champions Trophy

Political tension between India and Pakistan spilled over into cricket once again when India refused to play their Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan. The PCB agreed to a fusion model, allowing India to play their games in the UAE.

‘Slap in the face’, Amir lashes out at coaches who kept Abbas out of team

Former fast bowler Mohammad Amir has lashed out at former coaches for keeping bowler Muhammad Abbas out of the team for three years.

In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote: “The national team coaches who kept Muhammad Abbas out of the team for three years due to pace should be brought to the fore. It took the fast bowler three years to return to the team. Abbas’ performance is a slap in the face to those.”

Abbas took seven wickets in the first Test match against South Africa, while in the second innings, he bowled the best  figures of his career by taking six wickets for 54 runs.

The Pakistan team suffered a two-wicket defeat in the Centurion Test against South Africa after a thrilling match, but fast bowler Abbas, who became a part of the national Test team after three years, performed brilliantly in this match.

  • No regrets; Hina Bayat on Churails role

No regrets; Hina Bayat on Churails role

For veteran actress Hina Bayat, the decision to play a controversial character in Churails wasn’t about fame, but about reflecting societal truths. Here’s how the actress responded to the criticism she received and why she has no regrets.

Appearing as a guest on Hasna Mana Hai, hosted by Tabish Hashmi, the Sheher-e- Zaat actress explained why she doesn’t regret taking on the character despite the criticism it received.

A member from the audience asked, “Ma’am, you had a web series called Churails and your character in it was quite controversial.”

Hina Bayat replied, “I believe that whenever I take on any role, I look at it from all perspectives. If I am convinced by it, only then do I go ahead with it. So, I usually don’t regret my decisions. The character I played in Churail was from a web series, not a mainstream television drama. Therefore, the audience is different; it’s a subscribed audience. And our character was something that’s in our society. It should have been reflected. If you want to show something as wrong, you have to show it first, right? So that people can distinguish right from wrong.”

Despite the criticism she received, Hina Bayat made it clear that she has no regrets about the role.

“I have no regrets Alhamdulliah” she added.

During the same conversation, a member from the audience asked “Having been in the industry for so long, has there ever been a time in your life when you thought you should leave the industry? Did you ever feel like this place wasn’t for you?”

“No, I never felt that way. I’ll be honest with you. I believe my career has been such that I’ve never worked in just one field. Even when I worked in electronic media, it was through anchoring and hosting. Journalism, documentary, drama acting… so much has changed over time. I never got bored,” the Zindagi Gulzar Hai actress replied.

Churails is a 2020 Pakistani drama web series that was released on the Indian platforms ZEE5 and Zindagi. It was written and directed by Asim Abbasi.

Earlier, made in Pakistan and released on Indian OTT platform ZEE5, Churails has won the ‘OTT Platform Show of the Year’ at the British Asian Media Awards (BMA).

Sharing her thoughts on the win, Chief Business Officer at ZEE5 Global, Archana Anand said: Churails with its rich, bold narrative and the globally relevant storyline has broken stereotypes and opened up the fresh conversation around gender equality not only in South Asia but also in other markets across the globe by putting strong women at the center of its story.”

“Winning this award is a recognition of the tremendous impact that our content has created across key markets and how deeply it is resonating with the audiences,” she added.

  • Gen Bajwa sent me to jail, not Imran: Khawaja Saad Rafique

Gen Bajwa sent me to jail, not Imran: Khawaja Saad Rafique

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique on Saturday accused former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Qamar Javed Bajwa and ex-Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar of being involved in his imprisonment during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government.

Addressing a seminar to commemorate his father Khawaja Muhammad Rafique’s death anniversary in Lahore, Rafique said, “It was not Imran Khan who sent me to jail but General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Saqib Nisar.”

While questioning why their names were not highlighted, the senior PML-N leader, in the same breath, answered that their names should be addressed. “It’s not acceptable that politicians face [accountability], but the ex-army chief, after creating all the mess, keeps playing golf,” he added.

Highlighting political polarisation in the country, Rafique accused founder PTI Imran Khan, ex-CJP Saqib Nisar, and former COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa, of turning the charter of democracy upside down, adding that the trio have “changed the direction of the country.”

Moreover, He took aim at PTI for believing in the politics of long marches, saying, “We neither toppled the PPP government, nor PPP topple our government through long marches.”

Commenting on ongoing negotiations between PTI and Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif-led government, the PML-N leader expressed optimism about the success of the dialogue.

He praised the incumbent government’s effort to prevent the country from economic meltdown, adding, “The government and Pakistan army have made a joint effort to prevent the country from defaulting.”

The former Minister of Railways and Aviation explained that the newly elected United States (US) administration of Donald Trump has no interest in former premier Imran Khan’s release, noting that the US is concerned about Pakistan’s atomic programme and ballistic missiles programme.

Earlier, PML-N bigwig Khawaja Saad Rafique hit back at US President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Envoy for Special Missions, Richard Grenell, over his persistent social media posts advocating for the release of Imran Khan.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Rafique called out Grenell over his hypocrisy, saying, “His [Richard Grenell] conscience has been sleeping since the 2018 election theft to the dark period of political revenge and long imprisonment of opposition leaders.”

The PML-N leader, who remained imprisoned during Imran Khan’s tenure, reminded Grenell that the elected government of ex-PM Nawaz Sharif in Pakistan was overthrown by the “collusion of the establishment, the judiciary and Imran Khan’s party.”
