Shah Mehmood Qureshi called PTI leaders ‘jokers,’ claims Muhammad Malick

Journalist Muhammad Malick claimed on Thursday that former Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan gave a tough time to different leaders of his party during a meeting at the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Thursday.

Malick said on his talk show programme KHABAR that former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi bluntly told Imran Khan, “You have appointed jokers to key positions.”

Imran Khan met with Senator Shibli Faraz, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, former party member Fawad Chaudhry, Chief Minister (CM) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Ali Amin Gandapur and lawyer Salman Akram Raja at the jail. The meeting was two hours long, said the journalist.

“Instead of initiating agitation after the February 8 general election, you [the party leadership] confined yourself to your home, [….] why did you retreat from D Chowk last month,” Malick quoted Imran Khan as saying.

Former Foreign Minister Qureshi advised the party to move towards dialogue instead of confrontation, making the case for giving a chance to negotiations and  resolving problems through understanding. If the government is serious about dialogue, they should initiate talks, stated the journalist.

Qureshi called out party leadership by saying that he has “40 years of experience in politics” and that party leaders must consult him before making a political decision.

Sources told Express Tribune that Khan was skeptical about the talks, but Gandapur remained optimistic during their meeting.

“Wait until Saturday; if the government tries to convince PTI, then move ahead. Otherwise, go for the civil disobedience call,” sources quoted the PTI founder as saying.

The jailed head of the PTI posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday emphasised that two of his demands, including the formation of a judicial commission comprising the three most senior judges, must be established to probe the May 9 and November 26 events and the release of political prisoners must be met.

“If the government does not act on them by Sunday, the first phase of the civil disobedience movement, a remittance boycott, will begin,” he warned.

The former Premier clarified to the government that the move to defer the civil disobedience movement was made on the broader national interest. “If the government is not interested [for dialogue], we are not holding a gun to their head. Our offer for dialogue should not be deemed as a sign of weakness,” he said.

Additionally, Malick claimed that Imran Khan believed that the administration of the newly elected President of the United States (US), Donald J. Trump would be involved in securing his release.

The couple has been spotted in London in recent years.

Raj Kumar Sharma said, “Apart from cricket, Kohli is currently spending most of his time with his family.”

Kohli was in London after the T20 World Cup and returned for the series against Sri Lanka. He then went back to the UK, where he stayed until August.

At the start of the home season, Virat came back to India, staying here after the series against Bangladesh and the Test series against New Zealand, during which he celebrated his birthday with his fans.

Kohli is currently busy playing the Test series in Australia. If India reaches the final of the Champions Trophy, he will be part of the team. While it is unclear when his next visit to London will be, he is expected to travel to the UK in early 2025.

Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli had a heated exchange with the Australian media upon his arrival in Melbourne for the Boxing Day Test.

According to reports, Kohli confronted media personnel at the airport, believing that they were filming his family without permission. The former Indian captain made it clear that his family’s privacy must be respected, stating, “You just can’t film without asking me,” as per the report.

Channel 7 reporter Theo Doropoulos explained that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding. Kohli reportedly became upset after spotting video cameras, assuming they were pointed toward his children. “It was upon seeing the waiting cameras that Kohli became a little heated over what is largely a misunderstanding when he thought the media was filming him with his children,” Doropoulos said.

The journalist and cameraperson later clarified to Kohli that they were not filming his family members. Kohli then shook hands with the Channel 7 cameraperson and walked away.

  • PTI terminates Salman Ahmed’s membership over tweets against Bushra Bibi

PTI terminates Salman Ahmed’s membership over tweets against Bushra Bibi

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has terminated the basic party membership of former Junoon guitarist Salman Ahmed on Thursday, after the musician posted multiple tweets over the past few weeks against Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi.

In a tweet posted from PTI’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, the party wrote:

“After careful consideration, Pakistan Tehreek Insaf has formally terminated “basic membership” of Salman Ahmed @sufisal .

His recent social media activity and attacks on Chairman Imran Khan’s family has deeply hurt sentiments of many Pakistanis, this behavior is completely unacceptable.”

Salman was widely considered one of the inside circle, party members closest to Imran Khan. A fervent supporter of Khan’s since many years, the guitarist took to publicly criticising Bushra Bibi after PTI’s November protest turned into a catastrophe.

In multiple tweets posted since the protest ended, Salman Ahmed called out Bushra Bibi in very public attacks, hinting at corruption within her ranks. He has also obliquely tweeted about First Ladies who were allegedly corrupt, including Winnie Mandela. Salman has also attacked Farah Gogi, charged with corruption on Bushra Bibi’s behalf, and Mashaal Yousafzai, considered to be the former First Lady’s new aide.

The rest of his Twitter feed is full of anti-military content along with demands to free Imran Khan.

As of the time of filing this report, Salman Ahmed had not posted a reaction on his account.

  • ‘Peace in Kurram dependent on warring tribes surrendering weapons’

‘Peace in Kurram dependent on warring tribes surrendering weapons’

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chief minister’s (CM) adviser, Barrister Muhammad Saif, said on Thursday that peace in Kurram could not be achieved unless all clans surrendered their arms to the government.

“Without disarmament, ensuring security and reopening roads remains a challenge,” Barrister Saif said in a telephonic conversation with Geo Pakistan.

Responding to a question about the closure of the main road in Kurram, Saif said that the basic reason to close the 20-kilometer road from Tal to Parachinar was the recent attack on a 200-vehicle convoy.

He said that the provincial cabinet had decided that rival clans must also demolish trenches and bunkers along the road to Parachinar. “As soon as both clans disarm themselves, the road will be re-opened,” he said.

Saif dismissed claims that Kurram was facing a shortage of medicine and goods. “We have delivered medicines there via helicopter, and life-saving drugs are also available at the District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital.”

He was referring to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority’s (PDMA) provision of relief goods worth Rs150 million to the Kurram deputy commissioner for distribution among those affected by violence.

To another question, Saif maintained that mutual trust was contingent upon the factions surrendering their weapons to ensure lasting peace.

On November 21, gunmen ambushed a police-escorted convoy, which was headed towards Peshawar from Parachinar, leaving 52 dead and multiple wounded. Subsequently, clashes between warring clans escalated with the tribes agreeing to an “indefinite ceasefire” on December 6 after days of fighting.

Businesses, educational institutions and markets remained closed across Parachinar amid the clashes. The deadly dispute, which claimed at least 122 lives and left another 168 injured, also led to thousands taking to the streets in various cities across the country, demanding peace in the troubled area.

According to experts, land ownership issues in the region are the main bone of contention in the district. Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021, the scale and violence of land disputes in Kurram have intensified and are fueled by the influx of advanced weapons left behind by retreating American forces.

Despite an All-Parties Conference (APC) led by KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, and KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur’s directions to demolish dugouts of rival tribes and for the seizure of their weapons, peace has alluded the area, resulting in an uncertain future.

  • The biggest Heera Mandi is in Defence: Yousaf Salahuddin

The biggest Heera Mandi is in Defence: Yousaf Salahuddin

If you believe the legacy of Heera Mandi is limited to Lahore’s historic red light district, think again.

Today the real Heera Mandi thrives in Defence (DHA), says Yousaf Salahuddin.
Appearing as a guest on Amna Isani’s YouTube channel, Mian Yousuf Salahuddin, the well know cultural historian, philanthropist and maternal grandson of Allama Iqbal, discussed the shifting legacy of Heera Mandi.

“Now, as I said, the biggest Heera Mandi is in Defence (DHA) because all the money is there. Most of the new wealth and ill-gotten wealth is in Defence, and now, people come with their own backgrounds, some are new, some are old.”

He clarified that people often confuse professional dancers (tawaifs) with sex workers.
“Dancing girls were professional dancers, sex workers were stationed in that area, which is called ‘Chakla’ in Urdu. It was an area where only they operated. But people began to mix up the two. People did not understand the difference between dancing girls and sex workers,”  Yousaf said.

Salahuddin also reflected on the cultural decline of Shahi Mohalla (Heera Mandi) during General Zia-ul-Haq’s regime.

He pointed out, “It was in 1988 that a strict crackdown began, because most of the voters from that community were PPP supporters. Since the entire community leaned towards PPP, a crackdown was launched. One day, for no reason, all the girls were picked up. During Zia-ul-Haq’s era, it was said that these women would usually sit in the upper floors of the brothels.”

Yousaf Salahuddin expressed concern over the current state of performances in theaters, comparing them to the past.

“What happens in theaters now is horrific, the kinds of performances you see there, you can’t even call it a mujra anymore. Mujra was a refined form of art. In the past, it was a sophisticated cultural performance, not like what happens today.”

Salahuddin criticized the recent portrayal of Heera Mandi in media, especially in films, saying, “All the films that have been made recently, especially that film which was Bansili’s film, I think I saw only one episode of it. They have glamorized it a lot, made it famous, but they did it wrong. It all seems like it’s Lucknow. Brother, this is Lahore’s market. There’s no such attire here, nor such culture. They brought in the culture of Delhi and Lucknow and placed it here.”

Yousaf Salahuddin calls for a better understanding of Heera Mandi’s cultural importance, focusing on its art and separating it from its controversial past.

  • ‘It’s been over a year since the divorce, I can’t discuss the reasons,’ says Agha Ali

‘It’s been over a year since the divorce, I can’t discuss the reasons,’ says Agha Ali

Divorce is difficult enough to go through without the public scrutinising the reason for it. Unfortunately for celebrities, they have to go through gruelling personal experiences in the public eyes.

Agha Ali recently revealed the reason for his divorce from actress Hina Altaf.

In a recent appearance on Nida Yasir’s Good Morning show, Agha Ali spoke openly about his divorce for the first time.

“It has been more than a year and a half since the divorce. I would not like to talk much about it because she (Hina Altaf) is not at the forefront at the moment, which is what is being talked about.”

Confirming the divorce, he said, “Apart from this, in my opinion, every story is different, every boy is different, every girl is different. What happened to us was our destiny; that is why we decided to separate in a civilized way.”

He admitted that it was never a difficult decision for him. “I am the guy who knows how to do housework, I am self-sufficient,” he stated.

“In the bond of marriage, it is important for both to give importance to their spouse, not to consider them insignificant. In our society, 99 percent of marriages end because they do not give importance to each other,” he added.

While advising young people, he said, “Whenever you make a decision, think carefully about whether you are mentally ready or not. If you are in a relationship, then try your 100 percent to make the relationship work.”

He also added, “If the relationship is not working even after trying 100 percent, then it is better to separate while respecting each other.”

Agha Ali married fellow actress Hina Altaf in 2020 during the Corona lockdown. Then in 2022, news of separation between the couple started circulating, which Agha Ali initially denied.

Later, the couple kept completely silent on the news of their separation. However, a few weeks ago, Agha Ali confirmed the divorce during a podcast.

  • I couldn’t sleep despite taking a sleeping pill, says Imran Khan

I couldn’t sleep despite taking a sleeping pill, says Imran Khan

Founder Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Thursday spoke about the alleged brutalities by the state on demonstrators during his party’s protests last month in the federal capital. PTI has alleged that  12 people were killed in the clashes.

The former Prime Minister posted a message on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that after hearing the news of the firing on protestors on November 24, he “could not sleep despite taking sleeping pills” due to the anguish caused by the violence against unarmed citizens.

Declaring November 26 a black day in the history of Pakistan, Imran Khan alleged that snipers opened fire on unarmed people, injuring and killing young individuals.

“Several people have been missing for three weeks now. It is the government’s responsibility to locate the missing individuals. The government must answer where these people have gone. Our people have made sacrifices for democracy. I direct my parliamentary party, including Barrister Gohar [party chairman], to raise their voices in the assembly for these missing persons. It is unacceptable for the parliament to function as normal while blood is being spilled in the country,” he said.

Asserting that PTI demonstrators were peaceful during last month’s long march, Khan said that no other political party in the country was subjected to such treatment. “As long as I live, I will ensure that November 26 is never forgotten,” he added.

The former Premier clarified to the government that the move to defer the civil disobedience movement was made on the broader national interest. “If the government is not interested [for dialogue], we are not holding a gun to their head. Our offer for dialogue should not be deemed as a sign of weakness,” he said.

The jailed head of the PTI declared two of his demands, including the formation of a judicial commission comprising the three most senior judges, must be established to probe the May 9 and November 26 events and the release of political prisoners.

“If the government does not act on them by Sunday, the first phase of the civil disobedience movement, a remittance boycott, will begin,” he warned.

The head of the biggest opposition party alleged, “The incumbent government was not formed by the people’s votes but through a conspiracy. General Bajwa conspired against our elected government, causing a loss of $42 billion to Pakistan.”

Imran Khan wrote that the country’s economy is in shambles, and the business class and investors are transferring their capital abroad.
