Missing superintendent of Adiala Jail returns home

Former Superintendent of Adiala jail Rawalpindi Muhammad Akram, who had been missing since the night of August 13, reached his home on September 25.

After allegedly facilitating founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan in jail, Muhammad Akram was reportedly missing for multiple weeks, Tribune reported.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Prisons Office Assistant Nazim Shah, who was also missing beside Akram, also returned home.

Muhammad Akram’s case came to the light after the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) sought clarity on the matter.

Responding to the court, the Additional Attorney General informed the court that the Superintendent Adiala jail was not in the custody of Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) and the same was stated by the Ministry of Defence in a written statement to the court.

Earlier, as per the police report submitted before LHC, the last known location of Muhammad Akram was in G-13 Islamabad. The court declared the police report substandard.

Later, the Chief Police Officer (CPO) of Rawalpindi requested a 14-day extension from the LHC to recover Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram.

However, a further hearing was adjourned to September 30.

“No. I think I believe in destiny, and I think every project which is written from imagination to creation has its destiny and I think you don’t need to put in a lot of effort. ‘Aap log aik din sar pe betha lete ho, doosre din utaar dete ho’; Iftikhar Ahmed lashes out at media

Pakistan cricket team all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed had an emotional reply to a seemingly simple question from a journalist.

After the final of the Champions Cup on Sunday, during the post-match press conference, a journalist asked Iftikhar, “Who do you think is the discovery in the Champions Cup?”

The all-rounder replied, “I do not want to talk against anyone, but instead of taking someone up for one innings, we should be talking about making him a part of the national team after performing well in domestic cricket many times.”

“In innings, you (the media) take them up from here, when they fail, you people say, where did you get this from? Then you people talk behind their backs, and we have to listen. First, let someone top in all three formats and then promote him,” he stressed.

“Because of you guys (media), the whole environment of cricket has been ruined. Let everyone perform two or three seasons, then you should talk, we will too,” he added.

Pakistan’s cricket team is under severe criticism after poor performances over the last two years. Yesterday, cricket team selector Muhammad Yusuf resigned due to conflicts with the coach.

Quetta teenager kills younger boy after getting inspired by crime series

Quetta police have arrested a teenager as a suspect in the murder of a young boy whose partially burned corpse was found on September 20.

The incident took place in Hazara Town, the provincial capital of Balochistan.

SSP Serious Crimes Unit Zohaib Mohsin told a press conference on Sunday that the police arrested Mushtaq Hussain, also known as Mehdi, for killing Arman Ali.

He told media that the suspect confessed during the investigation to have planned the crime after watching scenes from a crime series on social media.

Mushtaq explained how he executed the plan to the police team. He took a knife and a hammer, hid them in a school bag, and went to the crime scene, where he found a boy flying a kite. Luring the boy with a juice packet, he then attacked him.

He maintained that he did not know the boy and claimed he acted based on what he had seen in the series.

Victim’s father Muhammad Naeem registered a case with the police after which the police started an investigation.

Dawn reports that the investigation involved geo-fencing of the crime scene and examining footage from nearby CCTV cameras with the assistance of Frontier Corps Balochistan.

Suspicious individuals were brought in for questioning. However, Mushtaq was included in the investigation on Sept 29, SSP told the media.

  • Another seven Punjabi labourers killed in Balochistan, 20 abducted

Another seven Punjabi labourers killed in Balochistan, 20 abducted

In another unfortunate incident, at least seven labourers hailing from Punjab were targeted and shot dead by militants in Balochistan’s Panjgur district on Saturday.

According to the police, the labourers were residing in a house in the Khuda-i-Abadan area of Panjgur district where the fatal attack occurred, leaving seven dead.

In a separate incident on Saturday, more than 20 labourers were abducted by armed men in the Musakhail district of Balochistan hours after seven innocent civilians were targeted in a different district.

Balochistan’s security situation has deteriorated significantly as separatist elements continue to spread violence and often target civilians from Punjab.

Last month, 23 passengers were identified and killed by the terrorist organisation Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).

President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the incidents, saying, “Targeting innocent labourers and citizens is a very brutal and reprehensible act.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab’s Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also offered condolences to the bereaved families.

Quaid-e-Azam University clashes leave 25 injured

A clash between student groups of members of the Punjabi student council and the Pakhtun Students Council of Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad on Sunday left 25 students injured.

The clash erupted after Punjabi students allegedly tortured Muzammil Marwat in the square above Karachi Heights. Following the incident, student groups began to gather in large numbers to engage in a physical fight, as reported by Tribune.

Up to 80 Punjabi students led by Punjabi Students Council member Rana Hassan and 300 students of Chairman Pakhtun Students Council led by Asad Turi wrestled with each other for 40 minutes with iron rods and sticks near Hostel 7, resulting in severe injuries.

After police intervention, the situation was brought under control.

The Secretariat police registered a case under sections 324, 506, 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against 380 students, including the leader of both groups.

However, no one has been arrested yet.

Student clashes in universities have become a major concern. A few weeks ago, a similar clash occurred between two student groups over the banner display at Punjab University.
