Clashes continue: What is happening in Kurram?

The local administration and grand jirga of Kurram district have not yet succeeded in putting an end to the on-going clashes that erupted between rival tribes of Bushehra and Ahmadzai following the construction of trenches on disputed land.

The Nation reported that according to Kurram police officials, rival tribes exchanged fire on Tuesday at different parts of the tribal district, including Balashkhel, Khaar Kali, Trimanal, Baghki, Maqbal, and Kanj Alizai.

When the matter was resolved, the brief pause was interrupted by a landmine explosion, followed by another phase of gunfire in Bushehra, which was then brought under control. The clashes, however, began in Upper and Lower Kurram.

According to BBC Urdu, 15 individuals have lost their lives so far, from both Shia and Sunni sects, over dispute of land.

Former Senator and tribal leader Sajid Turi claimed that grand jirga tried to resolve the dispute, but it ended in vain.

Lambasting the incumbent government, he stated that in July, many jirga’s took place but none resolved the disputes between tribals because of government’s lack of interest and support.

Previously, rival tribes clashed in the Kurram district on August 2, 2024, which resulted in 46 deaths and nearly 200 injuries. These clashes were also triggered by a land dispute.

Bilawal Bhutto calls for establishment of federal constitutional court

Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has stressed the need to form Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) to address disparities among Pakistan’s provinces.

Addressing the Sindh High Court Bar Association, Bhutto stated that the 18th Amendment was threatened to be overturned while the 19th Amendment was passed under pressure.

He pointed out that the details for the 19th Amendment have not been disclosed to-date.

“The judicial reforms would be undertaken in line with the Charter of Democracy (COD), come what may,” he vowed.

Bilawal Bhutto explained that PPP is considering to form a Constitutional Court in every province to address constitution-related cases, but he also clarified that no consensus has been reached on this proposal.

“Agar Pakistan ka nizaam theek kerna hai tou Charter Of Democracy (COD) par amal kerna parega,” he added.

Bilawal hon aur memes na hon, aisa kaisay ho sakta hai?

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari unintentionally created a hilarious moment while talking to the media in Karachi on Monday.

Replying to a question about the possibility of a Constitutional Court, he said, “We should think about that. Woh kehtay hain na, aap ungli daitay hain, woh poora….”. He then smilingly made a gesture that depicts length but could also be interpreted as an obnoxious one.

It was only after the room erupted into laughter that he realised his mistake. “No, in angraizi. I’m not talking about…” he laughingly said as more laughs rang across the press conference. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson then smilingly put his hand to his forehead.

He said that he was referring to the English saying, ‘If you give an inch, they will take a mile.’

Bilawal then started talking about Article 186 of the Constitution but broke off mid-sentence to say, “Taubah, jo memes bannain gay.” Members of the media again burst into laughter.

Expect a deluge of memes in the coming days on the slip of the tongue.

Do you know which Pakistani actress starred in Bollywood hit Animal?

Indian film ‘Animal’ was a weird creature, a film without a script or a story but lots of pointless action and misogyny.

Many people do not know that a Pakistani actress also acted in the film, directed by Sandeep Reddy, albeit in a small role.

Geo Digital spoke to UK-based Pakistani actress Shafina Patel Shah, who played actor Bobby Deol’s second wife in Animal.

She was initially offered the role of Deol’s third wife, which was eventually played by Indian actress Mansi Tuksak.

When asked how she got the role in the film, she said, “One day I received a message asking me to audition for a role in an Indian film.”

“Last year I was in Peshawar in Pakistan when I received a message that there is a Bollywood film in which there is a role. Will you do this role?”

She continued, “I replied to the message that I had no objection and that I would do the role.”

She further added, “I had also sent the audition tape and I didn’t get any response for a week. One day they replied that you have been finalized for the role.”

She said, “I had auditioned for the role of Bobby Deol’s character Abrar Haq’s third wife, but I was selected to play the second wife.”

The Persian song Jamal Jamalo, featured in the film, was also very popular in both India and Pakistan. However, an unusual incident occurred on the set during the filming of the song.

Shafina narrates: “When we were shooting Jamal Jamalo, there was a scene with Bobby Deol where, on the wedding day, he gouged out the eyes of his informant in front of all the guests. A lot of fake blood was used in the scene. While filming, a girl in the junior cast collapsed and fainted. Thank God she’s fine now, but we were shocked to witness this. Animal was also criticized for its violent scenes.”

Shafina has also worked with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in an advertisement a few years ago. About the experience, she told Geo Digital, “When I saw King Khan for the first time, my heart started racing. He came up to me and asked, ‘How are you?’ I replied, ‘I’m fine, how are you?’ But the truth is, my heartbeats were abnormally fast.”

She also shared, “I played the role of an agent of the Indian secret agency RAW in a film with Tiger Shroff, but this film has been shelved for now.”

  • Sajal Aly’s acting in ‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’ has made a fan out of Shamoon Abbasi

Sajal Aly’s acting in ‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’ has made a fan out of Shamoon Abbasi

Actor and director Shamoon Abbasi is known for not mincing his words and giving straightforward opinions.

Abbasi is part of ‘Kya Drama Hai’ which airs on Channel 24, where he praised Sajal Aly’s acting in the drama serial ‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’ in his usual no-holds barred style.

Sajal Aly is playing the character of Meenu in the drama, written by Mustafa Afridi and directed by Safie Hassan.

Shamoon said, “Sajal, my child, you know how much I love you, she is like my family, she actually belongs to my family. From the very beginning, I have been working with her. You can even see her now, a little bit, peeking over my shoulder. Sajal has always been very dear to me. When she started working, I respected her from day one because even as a young girl, the way she elevated her roles was impressive. I always thought she was very serious about her work.”

“Every month some actor from India says something about Sajal and praises her. I say, when Allah gives someone respect, no matter what you do, Allah has given Sajal a lot of respect, not just as an actor, but as a person as well. She is such a sweet person – no controversies, no problems, no issues, no unnecessary talk. She doesn’t make statements or do anything like that. I think she is a very professional actor. Forever, whatever she does, it’s always great.”
