Kash Patel, nominated by former President Donald Trump for the position of FBI director recently attended his confirmation hearing before the Senate. His appointment has caused a lot of discussion. He set goals to cut drug related deaths homicides and sexual assaults by 50%. “The American people deserve an FBI that focuses on real threats, not political drama,” Patel said. Some critics question whether his goals are realistic and how he plans to achieve them.

People outside of Washington have different views on Patel’s nomination. Some police unions especially those in Long Island support him because they believe he has the right experience for the job. A group of former Justice Department officials and  including some Republicans, has written a letter opposing his nomination. They believe he is too political and could damage the FBI’s reputation. The letter warned that his leadership might turn the FBI into a tool for political revenge.

Despite the ongoing controversy, Patel still has a good chance of being confirmed because Republicans hold the majority in the Senate. However, this hearing revealed how divided opinions are about the FBI’s future and its ties with the government. As the Senate vote approaches, Patel needs to persuade more lawmakers that he can lead the FBI in a fair and independent manner. Tesco announces that they will close their remaining meat, fish and hot deli counters from 26 February. Affected employees will be offered other positions in the company. 

 

Other changes 

Moreover, Tesco also announced the following changes: 

• Closure of eight pharmacies

• In 12 stores converting night shifts into day shifts 

• Reduced working hours of some post offices

• Elimination of some positions in the head office

• Closure of the existing Maintenance National Operating Center in Milton Keynes.

With these changes, 350 more employees will be affected.

The new border czar of the US administration, Tom Homan has said that it will expand the existing prisoner center at Guantanamo Bay. So during the Trump administration, more people could be held in the face of an increase in arrests and deportations of illegal immigrants.

President Trump also signed on the “Lekin Riley Act” under which the illegal immigrants who are caught in theft or violent crimes will be kept in jail pending trial. This bill has been kept on the name of Georgia’s nursing student Lakin Riley. She was killed by a Venezuelan citizen one year before.

During a signing ceremony in the White House, President Donald Trump said that he instructed the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security by Executive Order that they start the preparations of the centre for 30,000-person capacity. He said that most of the people do not know about this. Moreover, he said that these centres will be used to keep illegal immigrants.

Jhon Duran signed a new deal at Villa Park until 2030 last October but seems on course to depart just months later. Al-Nassr had previously agreed to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface. However, the 21-year-old Villa striker was their choice instead.

Last week, Arsenal were said to have made their approach for the England international in Watkins, though Villa has no desire to sell him. It remains to be seen if Arsenal returns with a second bid, but Villa will be unwilling to part with either Jhon Duran or Watkins this season.
