Karachi man tries to kill woman after she rejects his marriage proposal

A man was arrested in Karachi’s Ittehad Town for allegedly trying to kill a woman after she rejected his marriage proposal.

According to the police, the suspect fired at the woman, who escaped the attack unharmed. A case was filed at the Ittehad Town Police Station under sections 324 for “attempted murder” and 34  for “common intention” of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

After receiving a tip-off, a police team under the authority of Station House Officer Inspector Rao Shabbir Ahmed arrested the suspect and seized illegal firearms, with another case filed under section 23(1)-A of the Arms Act.

According to authorities, the man has a history of violence. He was charged with trying to kill his ex-wife by throwing acid on her in 2021. The case was registered at Saeedabad Police Station under PPC sections 336-A and 336-B.

He was also linked to another firing incident in Ittehad Town in which he attacked a person with unidentified accomplices. The case included PPC sections 337-(i)H, 324, 109, and 34.

Violence against women has seen a significant rise in recent years, prompting the Sindh High Court to criticise police for not taking such cases seriously.

Earlier this year, a young woman was shot dead in a deliberate assault in Orangi Town in January, while a man was detained outside Karachi’s Malir Court on suspicion of killing his wife.

  • 51 arrested, 142 booked for attacking police, Ahmadi worship place in Daska

51 arrested, 142 booked for attacking police, Ahmadi worship place in Daska

One day after a case had been registered against 142 protestors for attacking police at village Ralioke near Daska last week, Sialkot police have arrested 51 individuals suspected of being involved in the attack.

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on the complaint of Motra Police Station House Officer (SHO) Mobin Ahmed Cheema who said that the police were performing routine duty when they reached village Ralioke at 2pm, finding a mob carrying hammers, sticks and iron rods, seeking to demolish the Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya’s Baitul Zikr.

Cheema said that efforts to tell the charged mob not to take the law into their hands went in vain, adding that, instead, they attacked the police.

He further stated that upon receiving information about the attack on the police, a heavy contingent reached the spot.

According to details, when the Sialkot Superintendent Police (SP) investigation reached the spot, the angry protesters attacked the police once again, pelting them with stones, opening fire, and damaging the van of the SP and the prisoners.

As per the SHO, the police seized three pistols and bullets from the spot. Motra Police Station registered an FIR against 42 identified and 100 unidentified suspects under sections 324/353/440/148/149/295 /295A/153A of the PPC and 7-ATA. Some of the suspects were arrested on the day of the incident, while others were arrested on Sunday.

Videos of the attack on the Ahmadi Place were circulated on social media on Friday. Before that, suspects had made announcements on social media, urging people to gather at Ralioke.

The Punjab police played an effective role last week, as Lahore police reportedly thwarted a mob attack on a worship place of the Ahmadi community in the city’s Samanabad.

A strong contingent of force from several police stations reportedly responded to the emergency 15 call from the community when local residents were about to advance towards the Ahmadi worship place.

As the mob reportedly attempted to siege the worship place, the police launched a major operation, rescuing women, children and other worshippers, shifting them to a secured area and increased security of the worship place. Police high-ups also engaged known local figures, including religious leaders, to maintain peace.

An Ahmadi worshipper told Dawn News that the protesters had accused the Ahmadi community of violating the time schedule of worship on Friday. However, dismissing the charge, he said that they were following the given schedule.

Lahore Operations Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Faisal Kamran confirmed that protestors gathered outside the Ahmadi worship place were members of a religious-cum-political party pressing for a change in Ahmadi worship timing.

Radhika Yadav a 25-year-old national-level tennis player in India, has been shot dead by her father Deepak Yadav at their home in Gurugram on Thursday morning while she was preparing a meal for her mother’s birthday.

According to police, Deepak confessed that he killed his daughter because he could not handle villagers’ taunts that he was surviving on her income and gossip about her character. He told police he had asked Radhika several times to shut down her tennis academy, but she refused.

The incident happened around 10:30 am on the first floor of their house in Sector 57, Gurugram. Radhika’s mother Manju Yadav was resting in her room after developing a fever and said she only heard the gunshots. No one else knew Deepak would take such a step.

It was her mother’s birthday that day, and Radhika had gone into the kitchen to prepare something special when her father allegedly shot her three times from behind with his licensed .32 bore revolver. Her uncle Kuldeep Yadav and cousin Piyush, who live downstairs, rushed upstairs after hearing the shots and found Radhika lying in a pool of blood. They took her to Asia Maringo Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Radhika had represented the country in tennis at the national level and won several trophies. After suffering a shoulder injury, she left professional tennis and started an academy to coach young children.

Police found the revolver on the drawing room table with five empty shells and one live cartridge. Fingerprint experts collected samples from the crime scene, and the weapon was seized as evidence.

Radhika’s uncle Kuldeep said he never imagined such a tragedy could happen while emphasising that Deepak’s licensed revolver was known to the family. He said there were no clear signs that Deepak planned to harm his daughter.

Manju Yadav told police that her daughter had a good character and had never brought shame to the family. She said she did not know of any serious dispute between her husband and Radhika.

Gurugram police confirmed that Deepak Yadav confessed to the murder during on-the-spot questioning. A case has been registered under sections 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
