    Two police personnel martyred while dining in Swabi

    Two police officers have been killed after unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire on them in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

    The attack happened late Friday in the jurisdiction of IDS Gadoon Police Station. Reports say the officers were eating at a local restaurant when two men entered the premises and shot them at close range.

    The martyred officers have been identified as Constable Jamal Din and police van driver Zahid. Security forces and rescue teams arrived at the scene and shifted the bodies to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Topi for legal formalities.

    Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to catch the attackers. An investigation is currently under way.

    Funeral prayers for the officers were held at Police Lines Shah Mansoor. Regional Police Officer Mardan Najeebur Rehman, District Police Officer Swabi Muhammad Azhar Khan, SP Investigation Iftikhar Ali, other police personnel, and the martyrs’ family members attended the ceremony.

    A woman and her teenage daughter allegedly died by suicide after consuming poisonous tablets in the jurisdiction of Dhamial police station on Thursday.

    According to the FIR, Mohammad Faisal, a resident of Chak Jalal Deen, claimed that his sister Tahira Bibi, 40, wife of Shabir Akhtar, had four daughters and a son.

    Faisal said that on Tuesday, around 9 p.m., Tahira called him, saying her husband was torturing her and their daughter, Insa Bibi. 

    Faisal went to their home and resolved the matter.

    On Wednesday, however, another argument broke out between Shabir, Tahira, and Insa. After receiving a call, Faisal went to his sister’s house again.

    The FIR quotes Tahira as saying, as per Faisal, “We’ve had enough of Shabir Akhtar’s violent behaviour and torture. We will kill ourselves.”

    Faisal claimed that his sister and niece took their own lives by consuming poisonous pills due to ongoing abuse. They were taken to Benazir Bhutto Hospital but could not survive.

    Following Faisal’s complaint, police registered a case under Section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code (Qatl-bis-sabab; causing death by negligence, a non-bailable offence) and have launched an investigation.

    Differently-abled child pregnant after being raped in Hafizabad

    Police in Punjab’s Hafizabad district have registered a First Information Report (FIR) in the case of a 14-year-old girl with mental and physical disabilities, who was allegedly raped and later found to be six months pregnant.

    The victim, who is cognitively impaired and unable to walk, speak, or hear, was taken to the hospital by her family as a result of health concerns. During the medical examination, staff discovered that she was pregnant.

    The parents, who come from an underprivileged and illiterate family background, claimed they were unaware of the crime.

    The FIR, numbered 1152/25, was registered at City Hafizabad Police Station under Section 376(3) of the Pakistan Penal Code, which pertains to the rape of minors or individuals with mental or physical disabilities, and carries penalties of life imprisonment or the death sentence, along with a fine.

    The complainant has been identified as Rana Sultan Mahmood. According to the investigation, the accused reportedly sexually assaulted the girl after discovering her by herself in the Hussainabad area six months prior. 

    The suspect reportedly went into hiding after the incident.

    Hafizabad District Police Officer (DPO) Atif Nazir Kadhar took notice of the case and instructed the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) City Circle to submit a detailed report.

    Police have stated that efforts are being made to arrest the accused within 48 hours. The victim’s family is currently under police protection.

    This incident aligns with nationwide data compiled by Sahil, an organisation working on child protection.

    Sahil, an organisation working for the protection of children’s rights, has released a Six Month Cruel Numbers data revealing that a total of 1,630 cases of child abuse were reported from across the country.

    The data reveals that in the first six months of 2024, with 862 cases of child sexual abuse, 668 cases of abduction, 82 cases of missing children, 18 cases of child marriages, and 48 cases of pornography after sexual abuse were reported.

    Out of the total reported cases, 59 percent (962) of victims were girls and 41 percent (668) were boys.

    About 81 daily national and regional newspapers were monitored from January to June 2024 to collect data on child sexual abuse, abduction, missing children and cases of early marriages.

    The areas include the four provinces along with the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

    The data shows that the most vulnerable age group remains children aged 6-15, with 693 cases reported in this bracket. 

    Additionally, 94 cases involved children aged 0-5, 231 children were from the 16-18 age bracket, and in 612 cases, the age of the victims was not mentioned.

    In the year 2024, January-June, the abusers involved in 47 % of the total cases were acquaintances, 18 % were strangers, while in 9%, acquaintances along with strangers committed crimes against children.

    In the first six months of 2024, 78 % of the total cases were reported from Punjab and 6 % from the ICT. The rest of the cases were reported from other provinces, including 11 % cases from Sindh, 3 % cases from KP, and 2 % cases from Balochistan, AJK and GB.

    Out of the total reported cases, 44 % were from urban areas and 56 % were from rural areas.


    Cases of violence against women

    In the first half of the year concerning violence against women, Sahil observed that a total number of 1,732 cases were reported, which included different forms of violence such as murder, suicide, abduction, rape, honour killing and torture.

    Sahil has been working on child protection with a special focus on child sexual abuse since 1996.

    It aims to develop a protective environment free from all forms of violence for children, especially child sexual abuse.

    It also provides legal, emotional and psychological support to the victims.

    In related incidents, Lahore police arrested four suspects in May for an alleged gang rape of a mentally-challenged minor, and a madrassah teacher in Muzaffargarh was arrested for allegedly raping an 11-year-old student.

    Four inmates sentenced to death for raping, killing prisoner inside Adiala Jail

    Four inmates under-trial have been given death sentences for the rape and killing of a fellow prisoner on the night of January 1, 2024, within Adiala Jail.

    The verdict was announced by Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Afshah Ijaz Suri, who found Mohammad Waqas, Asif Khan, Naqash Raza alias Amir Raza, and Bilal Hussain guilty of sexually assaulting and killing 26-year-old Sabieel in the jail’s specialized AIDS ward.

    Each convict was awarded the death penalty under Section 375(A) of the Pakistan Penal Code for sodomy, along with a fine of Rs200,000. 

    They were also ordered to pay Rs500,000 each in compensation to the victim’s family. 

    Under Section 302(b) PPC (murder with common intention), they received a second death sentence (Tazir).

    Sabieel and his attackers were among nine prisoners confined within a single cell in the specialized AIDS ward at the time of the attack. 


    Around midnight, when Sabieel was having trouble breathing, inmates alerted staff, according to the jail superintendent’s FIR.

    After receiving medication from a dispenser, he was discovered unconscious the following morning and was pronounced deceased at the jail hospital. Assault marks were discovered around his neck.
     

    Based on the witness testimonies, the investigation found that the convicts strangled Sabieel with a piece of cloth after tying his limbs and raping him in turns.

    One prisoner alleged that Waqas pressed his foot against Sabieel’s throat and chest.


    The incident took place in Cell No. 2 (Chakki #10), where nine prisoners had been held despite the cell’s low capacity. 


    The case has brought attention to the extreme overcrowding at Adiala Jail, which is capable of holding 2,200 inmates but currently holds over 7,000.


    In response, seven jail officials, including Assistant Superintendent Operations Ulfat Hussain, were suspended. 

    The construction of a new district jail has also been approved by the Punjab government, and construction is reportedly now under progress.

    Judge Suri ordered that all case property be confiscated and destroyed following the appeals process. Sabieel’s last-worn clothes will be returned to his family.

    The convicts remain in police custody and have seven days to challenge the verdict in a higher court. 


    The sentences are subject to mandatory confirmation by the Lahore High Court.

    A 15-year-old girl working as a sanitary worker in the waste management company at Kacha Khu, Khanewal district, was allegedly gang-raped by two men on Tuesday while she was on her way home after duty.

    According to her father-  the girl referred to as U was lured away by two suspects, Z and S, who allegedly assaulted her. 

    The incident occurred after her shift had ended.

    Upon receiving the report, police reached the scene and shifted the victim to a hospital for medical treatment. 

    A case has been registered against both suspects, who have so far managed to evade capture. 

    Police say efforts are underway to arrest them.


    In a separate incident, Shazia Bibi, 36, was taken to the burn unit of Nishtar Hospital in Multan after she allegedly tried to commit suicide by burning herself alive.

    The incident took place in Makhdum Rashid, her daughter Mahnoor told the police. 

    According to Mahnoor, her mother attempted self-immolation after a domestic dispute with her husband Khalid Mahmood.

    After receiving initial treatment for the severe burn injuries, Shazia Bibi was sent to Multan for more specialized treatment.


    Makhdum Rashid police responded to the incident and have arrested Khalid Mahmood. 

    To find out the circumstances underlying the incident, an investigation is currently in progress. 

    Local communities have been shocked by both cases, which have sparked serious worries about women’s and girls’ safety and mental wellness.

    A 13-year-old girl working as a domestic worker in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of Rahim Yar Khan died after allegedly being subjected to physical abuse, local police have confirmed. 

    District Police Officer (DPO) Irfan Samo said the girl, identified as Samiya, was a resident of Kotla Pathan, a nearby area.For the past three years, she had been employed at the house of a man named Shahram.

    The DPO claims that the girl’s death was caused by physical abuse at the hands of the couple she worked for. 

    Her mother was informed of her “sudden” death, and the body was given to her late at night wrapped in a shroud.

    Upon receiving the body, the mother noticed visible signs of violence.
     

    The mother notified the police, and a raid was conducted. Despite attempts to flee, the couple were successfully taken into custody.

    Authorities said the girl’s body was handed over to the family after an autopsy.

    The initial medical report confirmed signs of severe violence from head to toe on the child’s body.

    A husband and wife jumped in front of a moving train near Faisalabad, ending their lives together.

    The incident occurred on Tuesday, and both were killed on the spot, according to police.

    Rescue teams arrived at the scene after being informed by authorities and shifted the bodies to a nearby hospital.

    According to police, the couple’s identities have not yet been confirmed, and the reason behind the suicide remains unknown. An investigation is currently underway.

    Witnesses informed authorities that the couple abruptly stepped onto the tracks as the train was nearing.

    The suddenness of the incident left locals in shock.

    Police are also probing into any potential contributing factors that led to the suicide.

    Officials say all aspects are being considered as part of the inquiry.

    One of four who gang-raped woman in front of husband, shot dead in police encounter

    One of the four suspects involved in the gang rape of a woman in front of her husband was allegedly killed by his own accomplices during an encounter with the Crime Control Department (CCD) near Jorian Bridge, within the Kassoki police precincts of Hafizabad district, on Thursday.

    According to CCD sources, a team conducted a raid on a location along an open drain after receiving information about the suspects’ presence near Jorian Bridge.

    The suspects opened fire on the police, who returned fire. When the firing ceased, police found the body of one of the four suspects involved, identified as Khawar, a rickshaw driver.

    CCD officials stated that Khawar was killed by the gunfire of his own accomplices. The remaining suspects managed to escape.

    The body was shifted to Hafizabad District Headquarters Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

    Police have registered a case against the fleeing suspects under sections 302, 324, 353, 186, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, as well as the Punjab Arms (Amendment) Ordinance 2015, based on the report filed by CCD Sub-Inspector Ali Hassan.

    An investigation is underway.

    On May 3, eight individuals, including four named suspects, were charged in connection with the gang rape of a woman that took place on April 25.

    According to reports, the incident took place when the couple, travelling from Nowshera Virkan, stopped at a rest area. While they were on a motorcycle, a man approached them, verbally abused the wife, and physically assaulted her. Shortly after, a group of armed men arrived and forcibly took the couple to a secluded area near a graveyard, as detailed in a first information report (FIR) lodged by the husband at Kassoki Police Station on Tuesday.

    The FIR stated that the suspects tied the husband up, forced him to lie on the ground, and then gang-raped his wife despite his repeated pleas for mercy. Both were subjected to physical violence and robbery; the assailants stole two mobile phones, two tolas of gold, and Rs 2,500 in cash.

    The FIR also mentioned that the suspects allegedly forced the couple to perform sexual acts in front of them, recording the assault on video. The footage was later circulated on social media.

    The FIR was registered only after the video surfaced online. The couple told police they had initially refrained from reporting the crime out of fear.

    Police are conducting raids to arrest the fleeing suspects.

    A horrific case of gang rape has been reported in the Mangat Uncha area of Hafizabad where a woman was sexually assaulted by at least eight armed men in front of her husband. The act was recorded on video and later leaked on social media, which led to police action weeks after the incident took place.

    According to reports, the incident took place on April 25 when the couple had stopped stop by a rest area while travelling from Nowshera Virkan. The couple was on a motorcycle when a man approached, verbally abused and hit the wife. Soon after, a group of armed men arrived and took the couple to a secluded place near a graveyard, revealed a first information report (FIR) filed by the husband at Kasoki Police Station on Tuesday.

    The FIR said that the suspects tied up the husband, forced him to lie on the ground and then gang-raped the woman despite his repeated pleas for them to stop. The couple was also subjected to physical violence and robbery with the suspects stealing two mobile phones, two tolas of gold and Rs 2,500 in cash.

    The suspects then forced the couple to have sexual intercourse at gunpoint, recording it as well, the FIR added.

    The victims delayed reporting the crime due to threats from the suspects who warned them that they would be killed if they sought legal action or medical examination. The suspects later uploaded the videos online, finally leading to police intervention.

    An FIR has been registered under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), including rioting with deadly weapons, unlawful assembly, assault with intent to outrage modesty, kidnapping, rape, theft, enticing away a woman and criminal intimidation, police said, adding that the husband has named four of the eight suspects and demanded their immediate arrest and punishment.

    Video footage is being used to identify the suspects, and raids are ongoing. The couple has undergone medical examinations and further probe is underway.

    The inspector general of police in Islamabad has confirmed that 17-year-old TikTok star Sana Yousaf was killed for “rejecting” the advances made by prime suspect Kaka. 

    “This case was a matter of repeated rejections,” Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said during a presser, adding that the killer had tried to reach out to Sana at least seven to eight times. 

    The police chief stated that the boy’s offers to become friends were repeatedly rejected by Sana. She also rejected his marriage proposals. 

    “On May 29, which was Sana’s birthday, he tried contacting her. He tried for seven to eight hours to get in touch with her, including going to her home,” the IG said. 

    Ali Nasir Rizvi gave out other details of the murder, including that Sana was killed by two gunshots around 5 pm on June 2. The gun that killed her and her iPhone were recovered by the police from Kaka’s possession. 

    Sana Yousaf had a massive followings on both TikTok and Instagram, with 800,000 followers on the former platform and nearly half a million on the latter. She mostly posted videos of herself lipsyncing to Urdu, Hindi and Pashto songs. 

    Just hours before she died, she posted videos on both platforms showing her cutting her birthday cake and celebrating with her friends at a restaurant in Islamabad.
