Saba Hamid says she is not a controlling mother-in-law unlike her Noor Jahan character

Veteran actress Saba Hamid has stunned fans with her performance as Noor Jahan in the hit drama serial of the same name.

In the serial Noor Jahan , Saba Hamid played the character of Noor Jahan.

During an appearance on After Hours, host Ushna Shah asked, “The character of Noor Jahan is such that you start to dislike her a bit because she is an extremely controlling mother-in-law, and she is completely opposite to you, introverted, someone who minds her own business. So, tell me, what was it like playing a woman like that?”

Saba Hamid replied, “Mostly, if a mother-in-law has a significant role, she is portrayed as controlling and powerful. Generally, we have reached this age by playing such roles, so it wasn’t something new. But there was a good balance in Noor Jahan’s character. It was very gray, I didn’t see her as a completely black (evil) person. I felt that she believed in what she was saying, she wasn’t plotting or being deceitful. She truly believed that sons should be prioritized, which was a wrong idea, but the character was portrayed as wrong, not right, because people do think this way. We can’t close our eyes to it.”

The Noor Jahan actress also highlighted how important it was to play a role that made people think about society.
“To point that out, you sometimes have to touch the wound in order to heal it. I know many people were upset about that monologue where it was said that when a daughter is born, the father’s head lowers in shame. But this is how society thinks, and it was highlighted and countered well. There was a strong contrast because another drama of mine, which was filmed around the same time, also had a mother-in-law, but she was completely different calm and gentle. And I played both characters back-to-back, which overlapped a bit. I think it was fantastic how I managed to pull it off, and I believe I did well with both roles.”
Talking about her working relationship with Musadiq Malik,
Hamid said, “I am genuinely saying that I have worked with many directors, even with those who are very skilled. He is young and new, and Noor Jahan was only his second serial. The first one was Habs, and with Noor Jahan, he outdid everything he had done before. So, full marks to both (Zanjabeel Asim Shah) of them for making Noor Jahan what it is. “It was an interesting experience because he had assisted me before, and now he was directing me. When he assisted me, we had already formed a team where no one was the boss or subordinate. We always worked collaboratively, and even when I was directing, I valued his input. Similarly, when he was directing, he valued my opinions as well.”

  • Yasir Hussain’s family dynamics changed after his parents passed away

Yasir Hussain’s family dynamics changed after his parents passed away

Family dynamics can change a lot after losing loved ones, and Yasir Hussain is no exception to the rule.

The actor has recently talked about the passing of his parents reshaping his perspective on relationships and responsibilities.

Appearing as a guest on Meri Maa, hosted by Noor Ul Hassan, Yasir opened up about the lasting impact of his parents on his life.

The host asked, “Why do we have so much bitterness towards our loved ones here?”

Yasir replied, “I don’t know, but I feel that in our environment, the kind of atmosphere we have, there are many financial struggles and issues. The majority of people are dealing with financial problems. So, as you grow up, your primary concern isn’t about loving your people; it becomes about taking care of them, providing for them. When you enter that mindset of being a provider, you naturally become a bit stricter and more burdened, and that affection can decrease.”

Hussain fondly recalls his father’s approach to parenting, emphasizing a warmth that was always present, saying, “He was the kind of father who would hug and kiss you in the morning, showing love, because he wasn’t caught up in those issues. I believe the relationship he had was unparalleled, he understood that nobody ever starved. That was a remarkable thing.”

The host again asked, “You once mentioned that your mother gave you some advice that included traveling the world. Could you share what her guidance was for you?”

The Taxali Gate actor said, “Yes, my mother told me to get married, but first, travel the world. I didn’t quite understand what she meant by that. She told me to explore before settling down, and then she left for Rawalpindi. Eventually, I realized that traveling the world was crucial, especially since my education wasn’t extensive. I had tried to complete my degree but didn’t succeed. My mother knew that I was earning and working, so she understood that I might not continue my studies. People often say that traveling broadens your exposure, and I found that to be true. Traveling has greatly helped me in writing, acting, and directing. It’s not just about reading books; it’s about meeting people and experiencing life.”

“My mother had a unique way of treating all the children equally, ensuring balance among us. Parents have a special understanding of these dynamics, which is why, after their passing, the first feeling is that the bond they created has shattered. They maintained a certain attitude and exchange of love that kept everyone united. When they are gone, and the harmony is lost, you realize how important that connection was.”

  • Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s album Chain of Light released after 30 years

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s album Chain of Light released after 30 years

More than 30 years after it was recorded, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s legendary voice returns with the release of Chain of Light, a lost album released on Friday by Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records.

The album was recorded in 1990 at Real World Studios. There are four tracks in the 41-minute album.

The songs, including ‘Ya Allah Ya Rehman’ and ‘Aaj Sik Mitran Di’ take listeners back to the energy of Khan’s live concerts.

The track ‘Ya Gaus Ya Meeran’ adds intensity, while ‘Khabram Raseed Imshab’ offers a joyful tone, highlighting the range of Khan’s legendary vocals.

In addition to Nusrat on harmonium and vocals, the album features his brother Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan, tabla player Dildar Hussain, and chorus members Mujahid Ali, Rehmat Ali, Rahat Ali, Asad Ali, Ghulam Farid, and Khalid Mahmood.

Peter Gabriel, founder of Real World Records, shared his admiration for Nusrat when the album was first announced in June.

“What he could do with his voice was extraordinary,” said Gabriel. “We were proud to help bring him to a wider global audience. This album shows him at his peak.”

The recordings were rediscovered in 2021 after being forgotten in storage during the label’s archive relocation.

Gabriel called the rediscovery a “real delight,” noting that Chain of Light reveals Nusrat at his best.

He passed away in 1997 at the age of 48, but he remains an influential figure in world music. His family members, including Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and his sons, continue his legacy.
