As Karachi continues to suffer after record rains, residents of the city are taking to the streets and social media to express their anger and rage and are demanding accountability of those responsible for the mess.
Among those lashing out at the government and authorities are celebrities including Mehwish Hayat, Ayesha Omar, Aijaz Aslam, Sanam Jung, Sanam Saeed and Feroze Khan.
“My anger knows no bounds,” wrote Mehwish. “How can a modern city like Karachi not have the infrastructure to cope with rain in today’s age?”
Demanding accountability, the actor added, “Enough is enough!”
My anger knows no abounds. How can a modern city like #Karachi not have the infrastructure to cope with rain in 2day's age?Our suffering over the past few days proves that those responsible need to be held accountable!Heads have to roll or this’ll keep happening.Enough is enough!
“It’s time for accountability. It’s time to speak up. It’s time to take ownership. It’s time to demand our rights. Its time to heal. It’s time,” wrote Ayesha on Twitter.

Anoushey Ashraf, Mansha Pasha and Fahad Mirza also expressed their distress and disappointment and called out those in power for making false promises.
Not ONE resignation from the authorities in Karachi. You can’t shame the shameless. Every person who calls Karachi his home needs to attend the peaceful protests and demand better. #KarachiRains#KarachiSinks
Feroze Khan wanted to know where his tax money went.
Meanwhile, residents of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Monday gathered within the premises of Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) to protest against the lack of monsoon infrastructure and the administration’s failure to provide them basic amenities.
“We wish to register our legitimate right to get the supply of basic amenities of potable water, stable electricity, effective discharge and flow of drains and sewerage, elimination of hanging electricity wires & data cables, fixing of broken poles, providing of security [as well as] repair and re-carpeting of broken roads,” read a statement by the residents of DHA Karachi ahead of Monday’s protest.
A second protest for later this week has also been announced by the aggrieved residents to take up their demands with DHA outside the Phase-I office on September 3 at 12:30 pm.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced that both the centre and Sindh will be working together to bring much-needed relief to the people of Karachi.

Chadwick Boseman, who played Black American icons Jackie Robinson and James Brown with searing intensity before inspiring audiences worldwide as the regal Black Panther in Marvel’s blockbuster movie franchise, died Friday of cancer. He was 43.
Boseman died at his home in the Los Angeles area with his wife and family by his side, his publicist Nicki Fioravante told media outlets. He is survived by his wife and a parent and had no children.
Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago, his family said in a statement. The actor had not publicly discussed his condition and continued to work on major Hollywood productions.
“A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much,” his family said. “From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more – all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honour of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.”
Expressions of shock and despair poured in late Friday from fellow actors, athletes, musicians, Hollywood titans, fans and politicians. Several Pakistani actors including Ushna Shah and Ali Rehman Khan also mourned his demise.
Our hearts are broken and our thoughts are with Chadwick Boseman’s family. Your legacy will live on forever. Rest In Peace. pic.twitter.com/YQMrEJy90x
All I have to say is the tragedies amassing this year have only been made more profound by the loss of #ChadwickBoseman. What a man, and what an immense talent. Brother, you were one of the all time greats and your greatness was only beginning. Lord love ya. Rest in power, King.
Woke up to this news. He’d been described as a true Thespian, a humble person who loved his art. Values I’d love to embody. A year older than me yet a century ahead. RIP. Verily all comes from Him and must return to Him. https://t.co/YWvtgYj1QW
The true power of @ChadwickBoseman was bigger than anything we saw on screen. From the Black Panther to Jackie Robinson, he inspired generations and showed them they can be anything they want — even super heroes. Jill and I are praying for his loved ones at this difficult time.
I don’t have words. Rest In Peace, Bruh. Thank you for all you did while you were here. Thank you for being a friend. You are loved. You will be missed. 🤜🏿🤛🏿 https://t.co/8rK4dWmorq
It took some time for Boseman’s moment to come. Born in South Carolina, Boseman graduated from Howard University and had small roles in television – on TV shows like ABC Family’s Lincoln Heights and NBC’s Persons Unknown – before his first star turn in 2013. His striking portrayal of the stoic baseball star Robinson opposite Harrison Ford in 2013′s 42 drew attention in Hollywood and made him a star. A year later, he wowed audiences as Brown in the biopic Get On Up.
Boseman’s T’Challa character was first introduced to the blockbuster Marvel movies in 2016′s Captain America: Civil War and his “Wakanda Forever” salute reverberated around the world after the release of Black Panther two years ago.
“I don’t think the world was ready for a ‘Black Panther’ movie before this moment. Socially and politically, it wasn’t ready for it,” he told APat the time.
The film’s vision of Afrofuturism and the technologically advanced civilization of Wakanda resonated with audiences, some of whom wore African attire to showings and helped propel Black Panther to more than $1.3 billion in the global box office. It is the only Marvel Studios film to receive a best picture Oscar nomination.
The character was last seen standing silently dressed in a black suit at Tony Stark’s funeral in last year’s Avengers: Endgame. A Black Panther sequel had been announced and was one of the studio’s most anticipated upcoming films.
Looks like Pakistanis will never let Indians forget about their little misadventure in Pakistan, Balakot to be precise.
Soon after Kangana Ranaut shared a new look of her upcoming film Tejas in which she is seen standing next to a jet in uniform, Feroze Khan invited the actor to Pakistan for tea.
“New jets?,” commented Feroze. “I see! Come over for chai (tea) sometime with us.”
The Pakistani actor was referring to last year’s incident in which the Pakistan Air Force shot down an Indian jet in Balakot and captured the pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. However, he was released a day later by Prime Minister Imran Khan as a goodwill gesture to promote peace between the two countries.
Later, Feroze engaged with some of the Indian trolls himself and said that he will “fight for what I think is right”.
– google’s CEO is sunder pichai … you think they will project Pakistan in any good shape? Recently shot down a aircraft – the recent 🏆 🇵🇰 https://t.co/PgpC8pyp7r
and that’s what I am now about to do at the cost of anything I will fight for what I think is right… I don’t care who thinks what. https://t.co/OU3DqGFdWd
The film which is being produced by the makers of Uri: The Surgical Strike is scheduled to go on floors by the end of this year.
Speaking about the film, Kangana, in a statement said: “Tejas is an exhilarating story where I have the privilege of playing an air force pilot. I am honoured to be a part of a film that celebrates these brave men and women in uniform who make immense sacrifices in the line of duty every day. Our film celebrates the armed forces and its heroes.”
Meanwhile, director Sarvesh Mewara while speaking about the project said: “My film is a reflection of the current sentiment in our country. We celebrate our armed forces and I hope to further evoke a spirit of patriotism and nationalism through my storytelling. Kangana is a strong woman with a voice that resonates with the youth of this nation and I cannot wait to begin shooting with Kangana.”
The film is expected to be shot in Mumbai and Rajasthan. A release date has not yet been announced.
With rains lashing Karachi, as many as 19 people died in various rain-related incidents in the port city on Thursday, taking the tally of deaths during the three-day monsoon spell in the city to 30.
Meteorological officials said downpours in August have shattered the 90-year-old record for the city. Some 484mm (19 inches) of rain has fallen this month so far, 130mm on Thursday alone, they said.
According to data released by the Met Office, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Faisal Base recorded 130 millimetres of rain while Nazimabad has recorded 105.6mm since Thursday morning. Mausamiyat received 74.3mm of rain, while Saadi Town recorded 72mm. About 98.5mm of rain was recorded in PAF Masroor Base, Surjani received 73mm while Kemari recorded 82.5mm.
Many major arteries witnessed severe traffic jams. Power was suspended in several areas as a precautionary measure, a K-Electric spokesperson said. Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Suhail Rajput urged people not to leave their homes during the spell which, according to a Met Office prediction, is expected to continue for another two days.
Videos and photos making rounds on social media showed submerged cars and motorcycles and water entering houses and buildings, wreaking havoc in the provincial capital.
Given the devastation in Karachi, several celebrities and notable personalities including Feroze Khan, Shahid Afridi, Fatima Bhutto, Ayesha Omar, Samina Peerzada and Ali Safina have lashed out at the Sindh Government for being incompetent and “destroying” the city.
Feroze expressed his outrage by hitting out at PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and demanding answers from him and his government.
– do you even know anything? What’s been up all these years in Sindh ? What’s your party been really doing handing out ajrak’s ?? Where did the tax go ? Zero infrastructure ?? My city and the people both are underwater Mr.Zardari. https://t.co/f4wlrn4zXS
When a Twitter user asked him to hold the PTI government accountable as well, Khan said that they “have literally just come in and I at least can’t expect them to over night work everything around”.
– they have literally just come in and I at least can’t expect them to over night work everything around and turn this place into Dubai ? PPP and MUSLIM LEAGUE (N) should be held responsible. https://t.co/AQqzu3fK4O
Former captain Shahid Afridi expressed his disappointment with the management and those in charge of the city.
“Who will save Karachi,” questioned the cricketer. It is pertinent to mention here that Afridi’s foundation Shahid Afridi Foundation has stepped up to help those affected by the flooding in the city.

With the videos I’m seeing, the stories I’m hearing, its a National Emergency situation. People are homeless, stuck on the streets, or being swept away. Are there relief packages being prepared? Is help coming? When? @MuradAliShahPPP#SindhGovt#KarachiSinks#KarachiRain
#Karachi had an estimated GDP of $164 billion approximately 25% of the national GDP. The metropolitan city, The financial hub of #Pakistan dose not deserve to be treated like this. Sorry #Karachi corrupt politicians and negligence has brought you down to this #FixKarachi

Mehwish Hayat has lashed out at Indian media for spreading fake news about her, saying that she will not “give credence to the unfounded accusations by issuing a statement”.
The actor in clear cut words stated that she knew why she was the target of fake news and said that “this kind of gutter journalism will not shut me up”.
“I will continue to highlight their atrocities in Kashmir and to call out Bollywood for its hypocrisy,” added Mehwish, before concluding her tweet on a light note. Mehwish has always raised her voice for the plight of the Kashmiris and has been a vocal critic of Muslim and Pakistani representation in Bollywood movies. She had even called out Shah Rukh Khan for fuelling propaganda after his series Bard of Blood was released on Netflix.
I will continue to highlight their atrocities in Kashmir and to call out Bollywood for its hypocrisy. Oh BTW next time if you want to link my name with someone .. may I suggest @LeoDiCaprio ? 😁
Mehwish’s remarks come after Indian media linked the actor to the notorious Indian crime boss and drug dealer Dawood Ibrahim. The story which was carried by all leading Indian media outlets claimed that Mehwish and Ibrahim are in a relationship and that all her movies are funded by him. The report further stated that Mehwish was awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz because of Ibrahim’s influence.
It is pertinent to mention here that Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry, in an interview, had shared that he was the one who had recommended Hayat for the prestigious honour.
“Mehwish Hayat is brilliant. As [information] minister, I recommended her name for Sitara-e-Imtiaz even though I had never met her, until recently”, the minister had said, adding that he had recommended her because her films do exceptional business.
What is interesting to note is that the story was not credited to any source and is baseless. Indian media is well-known for resorting to fake news to push forward propaganda.
Meanwhile, check out the video below see how the Indian media lost it during India-Pakistan tensions:
Hamza Ali Abbasi and Naimal Khawar are celebrating their first wedding anniversary with their bundle of joy Muhammad Mustafa Abbasi.
The happy couple shared pictures of their family celebrations on social media and thanked Allah for His blessings.
"And one of his signs is that he created for you spouses from among yourselves so that you may take comfort in them and he placed between you Love & Mercy. In this there is surely evidence of Truth for those who ponder." Quran 30:21..1st Anniversary❤ Thankyou Allah! pic.twitter.com/cu9DfOwZ4r
Hamza and Naimal, who are currently residing in Dallas, Texas as Hamza studies religion at the Ghamidi Center of Islamic Learning, announced the birth of their child on August 3. Naimal later shared that Mustafa was born on July 30.
The couple tied the knot on August 25, 2019 in a simple and intimate ceremony with only their closest friends and family present.
In November 2019, Hamza had announced that he was quitting acting to focus on his spiritual journey. He was last seen in the drama serial Alif opposite Sajal Aly. Meanwhile, his upcoming film The Legend of Maula Jatt is expected to release sometime this year.
“I had this divine revelation some time back, that all that I am doing in this world will end the moment I die,” Hamza had said in a video message, adding that death is inevitable.
“All these trophies, all these accolades will not bring me any good on the day of judgment when I meet my Maker. I have decided that I want to leave everything that might be a hurdle when it comes to making my matters easier on the day of Judgment.”
Hamza later clarified that he will not be quitting but will instead focus on making videos to spread the message of Islam and inspire others to undertake this spiritual journey.
Speaking to various media outlets, Odho said that the case against her was “politically motivated”. Odho had been booked for allegedly smuggling two bottles of foreign liquor in her bag while she was checking in for Pakistan International Airline’s (PIA) Karachi-bound flight PK-301 in June 2011. The liquor had been confiscated on the spot as per the law and Odho, who was secretary information of Pervez Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) at the time, had been allowed to travel. However, Iftikhar Chaudhry, who was CJP back then, took suo motu notice of the incident after the news was widely discussed on television. He directed police and Customs officials to clarify why a case had not been registered against the actor. Following the notice, Customs officials sent a lawsuit to the Airport police station, which then registered a case against Odho under Section 3/4 of the Prohibition Order of 1979.
Odho thanked the judge who accepted her plea and acquitted her. She said that she believes in the law of the land and encouraged everyone to have faith in the judicial system and be patient. She said that over the year, she appeared in court almost a hundred times until she was granted immunity from appearing until the final verdict.
“People have asked me if I was difficult,” said Odho. “Yes, I had to go through pain but justice was delayed, not denied. We should trust the system, go through due process, and if you haven’t done anything wrong, then ask for your right – don’t get scared and don’t run away.”
She added, “Believe in your courts, your judges, your lawyers, and here I would like to add – those who are unfortunate, who don’t have enough resources or money, the judiciary should be mindful of them. There should be a system where the state should help them.”
She also appealed to authorities to fast-track cases of innocent people who are stuck in prison.
“If an innocent person is locked up for years, he will never get those years of his life back. The people who are locked up and the underprivileged should always be prioritised, because if the state does not look after them, they won’t have any hope,” said the actor.
Mohsin Abbas Haider and Nazish Jahangir have rejected claims of being arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The duo, who are rumoured to be a relationship and one of the reasons behind Haider’s divorce, denied the news of their arrest on social media.
Late last night when the reports emerged, Mohsin shared a picture of himself and Nazish at an ice-cream store.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CEKVxboMec0/
The following morning, Mohsin went live on Instagram while working out at the gym.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CELecUJAhLN/
Similarly, Nazish also denied the claims and accused Fatima of spreading fake news.
Mohsin and Nazish also rejected the reports while interacting with fans in the comments section.
Reports of Mohsin and Nazish’s arrest emerged after the singer’s former wife Fatima Sohail posted a news clipping on Instagram and thanked FIA for giving her justice. According to reports, Haider and Jahangir were arrested by FIA cybercrime wing in Karachi on Friday. They are allegedly being interrogated over charges of blackmailing, harassment, fake pictures and videos after evidence was collected against both of them. Fatima had filed a case with FIA accusing Mohsin and Nazish of harassing her over social media.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CEKjAsdJldr/
Fatima’s sister and anchorperson Ayesha Ehtesham also shared the news on social media, though she expressed her disappointment in the regulatory body over the fact that an FIR has still not been registered.
It has taken @FIA_Pakistan a year to investigate and gather technical evidence to trace them as ones spreading defamatory & false content against Fatima. A Whole Year !!! Y FIR still not registered despite all evidence and accused taken into custody ? I hope justice prevails https://t.co/W0rMRAywiU
Last year, Mohsin and Fatima got divorced after fours years of marriage. Their divorce was heavily publicised after Fatima, in an explosive social media account posted on July 20, 2019, alleged that Mohsin was domestically abusive and had hit her on multiple occasions. She later filed an FIR against Mohsin on grounds of abusive behaviour and that Mohsin extorted money from her.
In August 2019, Mohsin was found guilty of threatening Fatema by a lower court in Lahore. However, he was found innocent of breach of trust and demanding money from his wife.
