Game of Thrones – The Pakistani style

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is currently on-air and we couldn’t help but wonder which actor would have played which character, had the show been a Pakistani one. Here’s who we think would have been the best fit for the different GoT characters.

    Fawad Khan as Jon Snow

If there’s anyone who can look this good while knowing nothing, it’s Fawad Khan.

    Saba Qamar as Daenerys Targaryen

The macho Mother of Dragons can only be matched by the might of Saba Qamar.

    Mehwish Hayat as Cersei Lannister

There is zero doubt that the fire of Cersei can only be matched with that of Mehwish.

Hamza Ali Abbasi as Jamie Lannister

Fighting with one hand and being tossed around by moral dillemas, Hamza and Jamie go together.

    Rozi Khan as Tyrion Lannister

Even though this chai wala isn’t an actor, there’s no one who could play Tyrion better. He just needs to be silent and stand there and we’ll all watch in awe at the resemblance.

    Mahira Khan as Sansa Stark

Beychari Sansa ko fit hoti hai beychari Mahira. Waiting to see how she grows into a warrior princess.

    Imran Abbas as Bran Stark

Other than the fact that they look scarily similar, Imran Abbas has got the focus needed to be Bran.

    Mikaal Zulfiqar as Robb Stark

Hot stuff, dies early, hi Mikaal Zulfiqar.

    Sajal Aly as Arya Stark

Seems innocent doesn’t she? Sajal has got the sting that is needed to be the strong Arya.

    Shahroz Sabzwari as Joffrey Baratheon

This evil cutie pie could only be played by Shahroz.

Nayyer Ejaz as Sandor “The Hound” Clegane

Haayee The Hound! Can you spot any difference? (Other than the obvious pagri of course).

    Shamoon Abbasi as Khal Drogo

It’s like Shamoon was made to play Khal Drogo.

Ahmed Ali Butt as Samwell Tarly

Can you think of anyone else?

    Mawra Hocane as Margaery Tyrell

Looks sweet, but can be utterly ruthless.

    Ali Azmat as Varys

We didn’t pick Ali Azmat because both are bald. He’s got the edgy smoothness needed to be The Spider.

    Resham as Melisandre

Resham is the perfect match for Melisandre’s conviction and intensity.

    Ali Zafar as Ramsay Bolton

Ramsay created a lot of trouble with his conniving ways so who better than our very own Teefa.

Sanam Saeed as Brienne of Tarth

Sanam has got the stoic might to play Brianne of Tarth.

  • Game of Thrones record-breaking run

Game of Thrones has had a record-breaking run since it first aired in April 2011. Its eighth and final season released on April 14, sending waves of excitement across the globe. Here’s taking a look back at all the records it broke.

GoT is the most watched TV show in history. The final episode of the seventh season set an all-time US record with 16.5 million people watching live or streaming on the day of transmission and 15 million more tuning in later. And these are just the stats for the US.

It is also the most expensive TV show ever. The eighth season reportedly had a budget of $15 million per episode, with the overall season cost amounting to $90 million. Most of the money was spent on lavish locations and special effects. However, the money isn’t lost as the franchise has reportedly earned more than $1 billion.
After the leak of four episodes of season five before it was broadcast, the producers were very particular about the security because of which they have shot several versions of the final episode.

Names of the characters from the series have also become immensely popular with dogs, goldfish and lots of babies being named after them. Arya was one of the most popular names for girls in Britain last year.

The series also led to a boom in tourism, particularly in Northern Ireland, where much of the series was shot. So much so, that the Croatian coastal city of Dubrovnik, the setting for King’s Landing, had to put limits on the number of visitors it can receive in its picturesque medieval centre.

Angelina Jolie wants Afghan women to have a key role in peace talks

NEW YORK: Angelina Jolie has called for women to have a central role in the ongoing Afghanistan peace talks, saying that their exclusion would hamper any chance of lasting stability.

In an opinion column published in TIME magazine, Jolie said that women negotiators must be included in “significant” numbers in talks with the Taliban. She emphasised that women should have leadership roles in the development of the economy.

“There won’t be stability if a peace agreement ushers in a new era of injustice and oppression of women,” Jolie wrote. The Oscar-winning star is a UN special envoy for refugees. Last month, she addressed the international body at its New York headquarters and called on diplomats to ensure women are included in the Afghan talks.

The US has held several rounds of talks with the Taliban in a bid to bring an end to the war against the insurgents that started in late 2001. Afghan politicians also have met with the Taliban in Moscow. The talks to date have faced fierce criticism for their lack of female participation.

Prince Harry, Oprah Winfrey talk Mental Health

Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry have teamed up with Apple to produce a documentary next year aimed at raising awareness on mental health, Reuters has reported.

Harry made mental health campaigning one of his priorities, and has also shared his own experiences of a breakdown after the death of his mother Princess Diana when he was 12.

Harry’s frank disclosures helped to break down some of the taboos over discussion of mental health issues in public.

He and Winfrey, one of the world’s most influential media moguls, have been working on the project for a few months. A release date for the series has not yet been announced.

  • Alia Bhatt…or Sanam Saeed?

    Alia Bhatt…or Sanam Saeed?

Nothing better than two women applauding each other.

Bollywood superstar Alia Bhatt, while promoting her upcoming film, Kalank, said that she took inspiration from Sanam Saeed’s character Kashf in Zindagi Gulzar Hai to prepare for her role in the film.

“Abhishek [the director] asked me to watch Zindagi Gulzar Hai,” Alia said in the interview, adding, “The character of Kashaf in the show is very much how Roop will deal with the situation.”

“She has responsibility on her shoulders so she is not always a happy person. She is vulnerable yet strong. It is difficult (to bring so many) layers – unhappy, vulnerable and strong to a character. Abhishek kept saying that I should be irritating.”

Sanam Saeed responded to Alia’s comments on Twitter, saying:

Kalank, a pre-partition drama, also starring Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha, is set to release on April 17.
