    Punjab govt sends The Minor to shelter home, will be handed over to parents

    The Punjab Police sent The Minor to a Dar-ul–Aman (shelter home) on the orders of the court, Head of Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms Unit Salman Sufi tweeted.

    “Punjab Gov has secured The Minor at Dar UL Aman under strict security and protection after a court order. Sindh Government has been requested to dispatch a child protection bureau team to take her to her parents. Mr Zaheer is being traced for arrest.”

    The Minor appeared before a magistrate’s court and claimed that her life is in danger and requested the court to send her to a shelter home.

    Lawyer Jibran Nasir tweeted, “To save their own life Zaheer/accomplices will go to any length. Please see the application submitted in name of The Minor. She says my relationship with my husband Zaheer isn’t good, I have separated from my husband & have no protection from my Parents hence I need to go to Darul Amaan.”

    Boat heading to a wedding capsizes, at least 20 dead

    On Monday, a boat capsized in the Indus River, killing at least 20 people while around 30 people are still missing. The boat was carrying passengers to a wedding.

    The boat was heavily loaded at the time of the incident as it was carrying more than a 100 people. Police officer Mohammad Hammad told AFP that “most of the drowned appear to be women” as most of the men knew how to swim while the women did not.

    “We’re not sure how many people exactly were on the boat. We’re getting the estimates just on the basis of the family members’ accounts,” local government official Aslam Tasleem told Geo News.

    According to the government’s announcement, over 35 divers from a state-run rescue organisation took part in an effort to find and rescue the passengers.

    Prime Minister (PM) Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has also expressed his grief after the loss of lives in the incident.

    A CCTV footage of a man forcefully groping a woman is being shared on social media. The video was posted by Twitter user Ehtesham Ali Abbasi and the incident took place in the I-10 area of Islamabad.

    In the video, a man can be seen running towards a burqa-clad woman and then groping her from behind. The woman tries pushing the man away. He later runs away.

    The Islamabad Police is currently investigating the case. The man has reportedly been traced.

    Ehtesham Ali Abbasi tweeted to the Islamabad Police that the family of the woman who was harassed is also satisfied with the police investigation.

    People on social media are requesting the Islamabad Police to arrest the culprit at the earliest.

    ‘Go where Muslims are in minority if you want more kids,’ Abdul Qadir Patel on population control

    Federal Minister for Health Abdul Qadir Patel on Monday presented a unique suggestion to control the population of Pakistan. The health minister said that if couples want to have more children, then they should go to another country where Muslims are in a minority so that the Muslim population can also increase around the world.

    Patel said that by 2030, Pakistan’s population is expected to cross 285 million. He said it is an “alarming situation”.

    “We do not want to decrease the Muslim population. We want Muslims to be better, more educated and provide them with better healthcare facilities.”

    Qadir Patel said that he has suggested to people to go have children in countries where the Muslim population is in a minority. “We are a lot in numbers here masha’Allah.”

    The federal minister emphasised that in order to control the growing population, there needs to be more awareness about family planning.

    Qadir Patel made the remarks while addressing a seminar in Islamabad.

    The world’s population could grow to around 8.5 billion in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050. According to a United Nations (UN) report, Pakistan is among eight countries where the projected increase of population is expected to be concentrated in 2050.

    Peshawar: 80,341 motorcyclists fined for not wearing helmets

    In Peshawar, the City Traffic Police fined 297,913 people for breaking various traffic rules so far this year, and they have collected roughly Rs700,000 in fines from them.

    According to information provided on Sunday by City Traffic Police officers, 80,341 motorcycle riders received fines for not wearing helmets, 29,945 people for parking in no parking areas, 32,298 people for breaking lane discipline, 12,222 people for breaking traffic signals, and 9,934 drivers for breaking one-way streets.

    Furthermore, 7,888 drivers received fines for driving a vehicle without a valid license, 1,131 for driving without a permit, 6,327 for using tinted glasses, 814 for using a cell phone while driving, and 1,080 for underage driving.

    In addition to 4,379 shop owners for encroachments, the traffic police also fined 4,094 drivers for overloading, 271 for riding one-wheeled on bikes, 1,296 for not using seatbelts, and 6,839 for refusing to show a driving license when asked by the police.

    The City Traffic Police received 2,457 calls on its helpline about various issues during the first half of the year 2022. Out of them, 2,289 complaints were settled, while 168 calls pertained to various traffic system reform proposals.

    A 90-year-old Indian woman who is visiting her family home in Rawalpindi has expressed her desire to visit Murree and Islamabad during her visit. She was talking to Geo News reporter Azaz Syed.

    Reena Verma had to leave when she was only 15 due to partition. After waiting for 75 years, Reena Verma arrived at the Wagah-Attari border on Saturday (July 16).

    As soon as she arrived in Pakistan, Verma set off for Rawalpindi with teary eyes to visit her house in Prem Niwas.

    “I am beyond thrilled. All my life I dreamed of this. I wanted to return to my home, the street,” she said while talking to The Quint, an Indian news media outlet.

    “Ever since I received the visa, or since I applied for the visa, those memories are returning of my family…of everyone,” she added.

    She joined a Facebook group called the India-Pakistan Heritage Club earlier in 2022 and made a post expressing her intention to track down her ancestral home.

    “Mr Sajaad Husaain from the group told me that if I tell him where my house used to be, he will find it. And finding my house was not difficult at all because it is surrounded by a lot of landmark buildings. I explained to him clearly and he located my house and sent me pictures.”

    She quickly applied for a visa but in March 2022, it was denied. She did not give up though.

    The 90-year-old received a three-month visa from the Pakistani High Commission in May this year.

    Punjab Police is locating Zaheer Ahmed to arrest him on the request of the Sindh Police, head of Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms Unit Salman Sufi tweeted.

    “Upon Sindh Police request to arrest accused Mr Zaheer, Punjab Police has been asked to locate and arrest him and Child Protection Bureau has been intimated to keep the Child in protection center. There is no leniency for Child abuse,” said Salman Sufi.

    On Saturday, Karachi Police said that they had discovered enough evidence against The Minor supposed husband and other accused in a case involving her alleged kidnapping from Karachi and subsequent teenage marriage in Lahore.

    The investigating officer of the case, DSP Shaukat Ali Shahani, stated this in a progress report, saying that statements from witnesses, and an analysis of the call data record (CDR) from suspect Zaheer’s cell phone revealed his presence in Karachi on the day The Minor went missing.

    The progress report was filed before Additional District and Sessions Judge (East) Muhammad Mehboob Awan.

    The report added that cleric Hafiz Ghulam Mustafa, Asghar Ali, and Zaheer Ahmed, as well as his 21 missing relatives, had been identified as suspects in the crimes of kidnapping, which are punishable under Section 363 of the Pakistan Penal Code, and solemnizing child marriage, which is punishable under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act, 2013.

    Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Bill Gates has announced that he is planning to give away all his wealth, adding that he will eventually “drop off” the world’s rich list. Gates first pledged to give away his wealth back in 2010.

    Gates, the fourth richest man in the world according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index, plans to donate all his wealth to the Gates Foundation and will eventually be leaving the world’s rich list. Till date, he along with his ex-wife have donated more than $50 billion to the Gates Foundation, which is one of the world’s largest charity organisations that focuses on providing healthcare and education to individuals around the world. In 2020, they funded work in over 130 countries.

    Bill Gates announced that he would transfer $20 billion to the Gates Foundation this month.

    “I have an obligation to return my resources to society in ways that have the greatest impact for reducing suffering and improving lives. And I hope others in positions of great wealth and privilege will step up in this moment too.”

    Bill Gates held Forbes‘ title of the richest person in the world between 1995 and 2010, and again from 2013 to 2017.

    Pakistan Railways to reduce train fares by up to 10 per cent

    The Ministry of Railways has decided to lower fares by up to 5 to 10 per cent as a result of the recent drop in the cost of petroleum products.

    Samaa reports that Secretary of Railways Zafar Ranjha will preside over a meeting on Friday to review and announce the train fares.

    Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif made an update to the discounted price schedule for petroleum products late on Thursday.

    The price of diesel is reduced by Rs40.54 and that of petrol by Rs18.50 per liter beginning on July 15.

    Khawaja Saad Rafique, the minister of railways, has given instructions to lower the train fare in light of the aforementioned discount.

    Earlier, to assist travellers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, Pakistan Railways also offered a 30 per cent discount on train tickets. A notice posted before Eid noted that all customers travelling by train during the three days of Eid-ul-Azha would be eligible for the reduced tickets.

    According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), 10 people have lost their live to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. It is the highest number of deaths reported in four and a half months.

    In addition, 737 cases of Covid-19 with a positivity rate of 3.28 per cent were reported in Pakistan on July 15. A total of 22,451 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours.

    In April, Pakistan reported zero Covid-19-related deaths for the first time since the breakout of the pandemic in the country.

    In March this year, the government announced the closure of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC). The body was set up in March 2020 to deal with Covid-19.

    Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on June 19 urged Pakistanis to follow Covid-related standard operating procedures (SOPs) amid a surge in coronavirus cases.
