    Pakistan divided on Eid again, KP celebrates Eid today

    Partial Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in different in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the tribal districts as different areas of the province decided to follow Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee that announced Eid on May 3.

    In KP and several Balochistan regions, Eid prayers were held in open spaces, mosques, and Eidgahs. In Balochistan, Eid is being celebrated in Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Zhob and other areas.

    Special prayers were performed for the country’s well-being on the occasion, and scholars underscored the significance of this Eid in speeches. In their Eid sermons, the Ulema also condemned the episode of hooliganism at Masjid-e-Nabawi.

    The main meeting of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony in Islamabad with Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad in the chair, while the zonal committees met in their respective areas to sight the Shawwal crescent. After the meeting, it was announced that Eid will be celebrated on May 3 in Pakistan.

    However, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan’s Special Assistant Barrister Dr Muhammad Ali Saif announced on Sunday that the province would celebrate Eid on May 2, after receiving at least 130 sightings of the moon.

    PM Shehbaz, MBS vow to cement Pak-Saudi ties further

    Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday met Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman (MBS) in Jeddah.

    According to the Prime Minister’s office twitter account, during the meeting, both the leaders discussed issues of mutual interest including global and regional issues.

    A 13-member delegation including federal ministers accompanied Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the meeting that took place in Jeddah.

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been on a three days visit to Saudi Arabia on the invitation of the Saudi crown prince.

    Earlier, upon his arrival at the Palace, the prime minister was warmly welcomed by the crown prince. He was given a guard of honour.

    Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Tahir Ashrafi and others accompanied the PM.

    On Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif along with his delegation paid his respects at Roza-e-Rasool (Peace Be Upon Him) in Medina Munawara.

    The prime minister offered Nawafils at Riaz-ul-Jannah and prayed for the security, progress and socio-economic development of the country.

    This is PM Sharif’s first foreign trip after assuming office earlier this month.

    DIG Bilal Siddique Kamyana appointed as new CCPO Lahore

    DIG Bilal Siddique Kamyana has been appointed as the new Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore. He took over for the former Fayyaz Ahmad Dev, who was transferred from the position a few days ago.

    Kamyana is the sixth City Police Chief to be appointed since the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) came to power in 2018. The decision was made on the same day that the Punjab Assembly convened for a critical session.

    Bilal Siddique Kamyana, an ex Ravian from Sahiwal, is regarded as a trustworthy, skilled, and crime-fighting police officer.

    He is a part of Pakistan’s 24th Common Police Service who served in significant positions such as RPO Faisalabad and Sheikhupura areas, CPO Rawalpindi, DPO Sialkot, Narowal, and Okara, DIG R&D CPO, DIG SPU, SSP CTD, and other high levels of the Police Department’s headquarters and district sections.

    Kamyana held an initial meeting with the sectional heads of the various branches of Capital City Police Headquarters shortly after taking over. He has vowed to resolve citizens’ issues by delivering justice.

    Pakistan reported its second incidence of wild poliovirus on Friday, after a stool sample from a two-year-old child from the district of North Waziristan in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa tested positive, according to health officials.

    This is the world’s fourth incidence of wild polio in 2022, and Pakistan’s second, which was reported on April 22 in the same district. “Today, the Pakistan National Polio Laboratory at the NIH, Islamabad, has confirmed the detection of Type-1 Wild Poliovirus from the stool specimen from a 24-month-old girl from district North Waziristan, K-P. The girl had onset of paralysis on 14 April 2022,” an official statement said.

    The statement further added that Pakistan had reported only one WPV1 case in 2021 which had onset of paralysis on 27 January in Killa Abdullah, Balochistan.

    “This indicates well-established wild poliovirus circulation within district North Waziristan.”

    Pakistan, along with Afghanistan, is one of only two nations in the world where wild poliovirus is still circulating.

    Customs seizes smuggled liquor worth Rs6.48 million in Karachi

    During a raid on the outskirts of Karachi on Thursday, Pakistan Customs personnel recovered a massive quantity of imported liquor worth millions of rupees.

    According to a Customs spokesman, monitoring was increased at the Moachko checkpoint after the Customs Enforcement Collectorate got information that alcohol was being smuggled to Karachi from Quetta under the cover of official vehicles.

    When a car with a government license plate and an armed guard was sighted at the checkpoint, customs anti-smuggling personnel signaled the driver to pull up, but the driver instead sped away.

    When the officials gave chase, the driver of the car purposefully began hitting customs vehicles, and the guard resorted to firing. Because the road was packed and there was a threat to public safety, customs officers refrained from firing fire.

    According to a spokesman, when they were around Shershah Chowk, the driver and guard hopped out of the vehicle and fled, taking advantage of a traffic jam on the other side of the road. During a check of the vehicle, 348 liquor bottles worth Rs6,480,000 were seized, along with other items discovered.

    The entire estimated value of the products and car was Rs10,480,000. An FIR has been filed, and a manhunt has been initiated to find the suspects.

    The extreme temperature has been recorded in the month of April in Pakistan and India while the temperature of Lahore exceeded over 40 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

    The severe heatwave has threatened and puts lives of millions of people at risk. In view the imminent temperature, the Pakistani Government has issued a health advisory, asking people to strictly follow precautionary measures to deal with the situation.

    Federal Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman said, “A heatwave has hit South Asia with the temperature predicted to soar up to 49-50 degrees C. Precautionary measures must immediately be taken to prevent casualties and injuries from heat.”

    According to the Ministry of Climate Change, this year’s March was the hottest month since 1961.

    The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday ordered an inquiry against Farhat Shahzadi alias Farah Khan following allegations of accumulation of illegal assets beyond known sources of income, ARY News reported.

    In a press statement, the anti-graft watchdog has directed the DG NAB Lahore to conduct an inquiry against Farhat Shahzadi alias Farah Khan, a close friend of former prime minister’s wife Bushra Bibi, over allegations of illegal assets beyond known sources of income, money laundering and maintaining various accounts in the name of different businesses.

    “Huge turnover amounting to Rs847 million has been found in Farah’s account during last three years, which does not commensurate with her stated account profile,” the anti-corruption body said in a press release and added that these credits were received in Farah Khan’s personal account and withdrawn immediately within a short time period.

    The NAB further said: “While reviewing the income tax returns of Farhat Shahzadi, it was allegedly observed that her assets have significantly increased form the year 2018 onwards for unknown reasons.”

    Moreover, Farhat Shahzadi also found travelling to foreign jurisdictions; 9 times to the USA and six times to UAE, it added.

    FARAH KHAN DENIES ALLEGATIONS

    Earlier, Farah Khan has denied allegations against her, saying she never interfered in the governmental affairs, days after the opposition blamed her for having a role in transfer and postings in the Punjab province.

    The clarification from Farah Khan, who is considered close to former first lady Bushra Bibi, came after members from opposition parties and estranged PTI leader Aleem Khan blamed that she used to play her role in transfer of officials in the Punjab province.

    Riba against Shariah: FSC orders govt to replace interest-based financial system

    The Federal Shariat Court (FSC) on Thursday declared interest-based financial system in the country against sharia after it announced its verdict in Riba case, reports ARY News.

    The three-member bench of the Federal Shariat Court in its verdict said that the existing laws related to Riba and interest are against Shariah. The FSC ruled that it is the responsibility of the government to replace the existing system and bring laws in accordance with Quran and Sunnah.

    The court declared that banks and other financial institutions receiving interest is against the Shariah. “Receiving additional amount on loans and change in agreement also comes under riba,” it ruled and directed the government to following Shariah laws while finalizing agreements with Chinese government for CPEC projects.

    The court further set a deadline of 31 December 2027 to fully implement court’s order on elimination of interest from the country and said that the government could also implement the decision prior to the deadline.

    Previously, the Full Bench of the Federal Shariat Court comprising of Justice Muhammad Noor Meskanzai Chief Justice, Justice Dr. Syed Muhammad Anwar and Mr. Justice Khadim Hussain M. Shaikh reserved the judgment against Riba case on April 12.

    The existing bench of the Federal Shariat Court headed by Chief Justice Muhammad Noor Meskanzai took keen and unprecedented interest in this matter.

    Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq termed it a historic moment of the country and lauded the three-member bench that announced the verdict.

    During the Chairmanship of his lordship of the bench 34 hearings are conducted.

    Petitioners, their Counsels, Jurisconsults, Amicus Curiae, Economists, Experts, Scholars, Chartered Accountants, Attorney General, and Advocate Generals advanced their arguments and the Court heard them with patience.

    They also gave suggestions for the conversion of the existing banking system into Riba free Islamic Banking system.

    Suicide bomber Shari Baloch’s Twitter run from abroad; husband held

    Habitan Bashir Baloch, husband of the female suicide bomber, Shari Baloch has been arrested by security officials, a day after scope of the investigation into the Karachi University (KU) blast was expanded, reports ARY News on Wednesday.

    According to the TV report, Habitan Bashir Baloch was arrested by the security personnel.

    The TV channel, quoting sources, claimed that the Chinese ambassador in Pakistan was informed regarding arrest of the suicide bomber’s husband, Habitan Bashir Baloch.

    The Chinese envoy was briefed on the latest developments in a session chaired by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah at Chief Minister’s House in Karachi.

    The participants of the session were apprised that it is the first arrest after the KU blast.

    Meanwhile, the report claimed that investigation agencies have unearthed more details about the woman suicide bomber Shari Baloch who attacked Chinese citizens at KU on April 26.

    The report, quoting investigators, revealed that the last tweet from Shari Baloch’s Twitter account was made from a foreign country.

    “The IP and MAC address recovered from her last tweet have disclosed that her account was being operated from a western country. The handlers also tried to camouflage the location by using a VPN,” the TV channel informed.

    Authorities have also found details about Shari’s meetings prior to the blast at KU. Shari used to meet regularly with her husband at his brother’s house. Dr Haibtan Baloch was staying in a private hotel in Karachi. Authorities have doubts that Haibtan was among the masterminds of the attack.

    The police raided a house in Gulistan-e-Johar Karachi where they found Shari’s two kids.

    Some locals also assisted in carrying out the attack, the investigators claim.

    On the other hand, the investigators have found the association of some relatives of the Karachi University’s (KU) female suicide bomber Shari Baloch with the banned Baloch Students Organization (BSO).

    The ARY News claimed that investigators believed that Shari Baloch joined the banned BSO through her relatives.
