    Govt to vaccinate 12-year-old children

    National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has decided to vaccinate 12-year-old children. The decision was taken in a meeting on Tuesday (today).

    Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Asad Umar, took to Twitter to announce the news.

    “In today’s NCOC meeting decided to start vaccination of all 12 years and older. Special drive will be run for vaccination at schools to make it easier for children to be vaccinated,” the minister wrote in a tweet.

    Pakistan has reported 1,400 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 1,241,825 cases. The country has reported 27,638 deaths so far.

    Court orders ‘rapist’ to wash women’s clothes for six months

    A man in Bihar, India, accused of attempted rape was granted bail on the condition that he will wash and iron the clothes of all women in his village for six months.

    As per reports, the 20-year-old Lalan Kumar will have to buy detergent and other products to provide six months of free laundry services to about 2,000 women in the village of Majhor, a court said on Wednesday.

    Kumar, who washes clothes for a living, was detained in April on charges including attempted rape, Santosh Kumar Singh, a police officer, said.

    No date has been set for his trial.

    “All the women in the village are happy with the court decision,” Nasima Khatoon, the village head, said.

    “It is historic. It will boost respect for women and help to protect the dignity,” added Khatoon, one of the villagers who will monitor Kumar.

    Women in the village said the order had made a positive effect by making crime against women a subject of discussion in their community.

    The police has submitted a challan in the the Islamabad couple harassment case. The challan submitted at an Islamabad sessions court states that there are seven accused in the crime. In addition to Usman, the others are Farhan Shaheen, Hafiz Ataur Rehman, Adaras Qayyum Butt, Rehan Hassan Mughal, Umar Bilal and Mohib Bangash.

    The woman’s statement recorded in front of the magistrate states that that Usman Mirza and the other suspects threatened to gang-rape her if she did not have sex with her friend while they filmed it. 

    “I was frightened because of their threats; they tortured me and forcibly removed the trouser of my friend,” the woman stated, adding: “The accused persons then forced her to perform a nude dance in front of them.”

    “Upon my refusal, he [Usman] started beating me. He slapped me and forced me to walk nude in front of his friends,” the challan cited the statement of the girl as saying.

    The man and woman were being blackmailed by Usman Mirza. “The men extorted Rs1.15 million from the complainants,” the investigation officer told the court. Out of the Rs. 1.15 million, Rs600,000 was taken by Mirza and the remaining amount was distributed among other suspects, he added.

    The police have forwarded the mobile phones of the accused for forensic analysis and requested the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

    Usman Mirza was arrested on July 7 after the disturbing video went viral on social media where he could be seen torturing and assaulting a couple. He was also seen stripping a woman in the video.

    Woman dies after doctor forgets towel, sponge in belly

    A woman passed away on Saturday in the District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ) during her cesarean surgery after the doctor forgot a towel, sponge and cotton inside the patient’s belly, ARY News reported.

    Her family protested against the alleged negligence by the hospital staff outside the Okara DHQ.

    According to details, the woman died after some time into her delivery. Later, it was revealed that there were surgical leftovers inside her stomach before she was stitched up.

    Earlier, a YouTuber, Rahim Pardesi also made a video on how his wife almost died due to a doctor’s negligence at a private hospital. 

  • Jinnah’s statue blown up in Gawadar, Balochistan Republican Army takes responsibility

    A statue of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah installed along Gawadar’s Marine Drive has blown up by the militants, BBC Urdu reported.

    Talking to BBC Urdu, DPO Gawadar, Dr Farhan, said that the statue was blown into pieces on Sunday morning around 9:20 am in morning.

    The outlawed Balochistan Republican Army has claimed the responsibility for the attack.

    Gawadar Deputy Commissioner Major Retired Abdul Kabeer said militants who attacked the statue had posed as tourists to get access to the area.

    He said an investigation is underway, though no arrests have been made so far.

    The statue was fitted in a high-security zone near the residence of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and the office of the Deputy Inspector General in June 2021.

    DC Gawadar said militants had placed an improvised explosive device at the site. Some reports say that a hand grenade had been thrown at the statue.

    Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has strongly condemned the attack.

    The chief minister said that terrorists would not be allowed to disrupt the peace of the province. He ordered the concerned authorities to instantly arrest the perpetrators of the attack.

    Social media users condemned the act and questioned the security in Gawadar.

    Powerful pictures from transgenders protest against gang-rape group

    A large number of people from the transgender community and their supporters protested outside the Karachi Press Club against a recent attack on its community by an alleged gang-rape group known as ‘Beelas’.

    The protesters also denounced what they called “the beela culture” that has existed in Pakistan since the colonial era.

    A transgender rights activist Dr Muhammad Moiz organised the protest. He posted the pictures on social media along with the demands and needs of the community in Pakistan.

    “Help us dismantle these structures and create a more just and equitable world for everyone by not being silent bystanders as groups like the beela network inflict violence on our community,” Moiz wrote while sharing the pictures from the protest.

    Earlier, Moiz came forward to share an incident of organised violence against him by the group [Beela]. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered by him.

    In the video, he shared that on the night of September 19, he and his friends went to a birthday celebration of a friend, where the gang-rape group was already present. According to him, the group [Beelas] wanted to rape the ‘londay‘ (khwaja sira/effeminate boys) present there.

    In his recent post, he has demanded a special committee overseeing khwaja sira in Sindh and a special helpline that khwaja siras can use in an emergency.

    “The police must be sensitised to understand beelas’ behavior, while also addressing internal issues in the police departments that prevent most khwaja siras from launching FIRs,” he said in a caption.

    Shehroz Kashif has climbed the third consecutive peak in the last five months at an altitude of over 8,000 meters — setting a record of summiting peaks in this young age.

    Shehroz’s father, Kashif Salman, told Geo News that his son is fully fit and he will reach the base camp in two days

    Punjab Sports Minister, Rai Taimur Bhatti, took to Twitter to congratulate Shehroz Kashif for his achievement and lauded him for his bravery at this age.

  • ‘Very problematic’, Pemra fines NEO TV for airing show that ‘leads to discrimination against female gender’

    The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has fined news channel Neo News Rs 200,000 for airing “insensitive, degrading, insulting, and nasty” remarks by Abdul Razzaq, Dawn has reported.

    The complaint was filed by tennis player Aisamul Haq Qureshi with Pemra’s Council of Complaints through Barrister Khadija Siddiqi.

    As per Pemra’s order the complaint filed said the female host on the show also “degrades and shames the career adopted by female cricketers, expressly stating that female cricketers mostly leave cricket when they get married”.

    The Council of Complaints also observed that the comment on women leaving cricket after marriage was a “generalisation” that “leads to blatant discrimination against female gender”. The female host is insinuating that short hair is too masculine and that women cricketers are somewhat an anomaly,” the council said.

    Razzaq was “implying a presupposed notion that cricket is a sport only meant for boys, who define the masculine nature of the sport,” the council said.

    Earlier, this year in July, Abdul Razzaq and Nida Dar appeared in NEO TV’s program in which, one of the members interrupted Dar while she was talking about her profession and said that women cricketers leave their profession and get married.

    Abdul Razzaq was quick to jump in, saying, “Oh, they don’t get married.” “Aap inko hath mila kay dekh lein, yeh larki to nahi lagtein,” said Razzaq. (If you shake her [Dar’s] hand, she is anything but feminine). The video clip went viral on social media and Abdul Razzaq faced backlash for his comments.

    Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel believes Covid-19 pandemic could be over next year

    Moderna Chief Executive Officer Stephane Bancel believes that the coronavirus pandemic could be over in a year as the production of vaccines rises up to meet global demand, Forbes reported Thursday citing an interview with Swiss newspaper Neue Zuercher Zeitung.

    Bancel said in the interview that increasing vaccine production will help ensure that enough doses are available to get the entire global population vaccinated by mid-2022.

    While responding to a question on when he thinks things could go back to normal, Bancel said: “In a year, I assume.”

    The pharmaceutical executive pointed out that even people who don’t want to get the vaccination may “immunise themselves naturally” by that time with the highly contagious delta variant spreading fast across the globe.

    “The people who get vaccinated will enjoy a good winter while those who don’t will live with the risk of getting sick or even being hospitalised due to the variant,” predicted Bancel.

    He said that he feels that people would need a booster shot soon and the company’s version will contain half the amount of the original formulation.

    He said that Moderna is also testing a “Delta-optimised variant” of the vaccine that will serve as the foundation for booster shots in 2022.
