A man accidentally set fire to his flat after a romantic gesture he had planned to propose to his girlfriend went wrong.
According to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, the man wanted to ask his partner in a room “filled with hundreds of tea lights”, balloons and a bottle of wine. But he left the candles burning while he went to pick her up from work. When he returned he found his flat burning in flames.
He and his girlfriend thankfully managed to escape the fire unharmed.
Three fire engines were sent to the home above a newsagent in Sheffield on Monday night.
The fire service in a series of Tweets described the incident and wrote in one of the Tweets, “As a bonus, she said YES!

Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum has cordoned off his car upon finding that a small bird had built a next on its hood, Gulf Today reported.
As per the details, the crown prince on his Instagram shared a video of the bird nesting on his Mercedes-AMG G63 SUV parked within his residence in Dubai.
The video, which Sheikh Hamdan shot at a distance, shows the G-wagon cordoned off with red-and-white tape and he has told all personnel to stay away from the area so as to not disturb the bird.
Reportedly an avid lover of nature, Sheikh Hamdan regularly shares his experiences across his social media platforms.
Earlier this week, Hamdan shared videos and photos of the bird building the nest. Ever since, the royal has not been near his car and therefore told everyone to stay off the area.

Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the son of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, the senior wife of Mohammed. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain with thundershowers in Karachi and Hyderabad on August 7 and 8 (Friday, Saturday).
According to the MET office report, heavy rain in Karachi and Hyderabad may result in urban flooding and authorities have been directed to remain alert to control over the situation.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled that an accused molester who forced entry into a woman’s house could be granted bail on grounds that he agrees to get a rakhi tied by her on the day of Rakshabandhan. The court also asked the man to give Rs 11,000 to the woman as part of a customary offering made by brothers to sisters on the occasion and seek her blessings.
Rakshabandhan is an Indian ceremony during which a sister ties a bracelet to her brother’s wrist to honour the relationship between brother and sister.
In the order, the court said, “The applicant, along with his wife, shall visit the house of the complainant with a rakhi (thread/band) on August 3 at 11 am with a box of sweets and request the complainant to tie the rakhi band to him with the promise to protect her to the best of his ability for all times to come.”
The man named Vikram Bagri is accused of entering the 30-year-old woman’s house in Ujjain on April 20. Bagri has also been ordered to give Rs 5,000 to the complainant’s son to buy clothes and sweets.

A cop opened fire on a prisoner at a police station in Lahore after he repeatedly asked the officer for a cigarette.
According to reports, the incident took place at Chuhang police station in Lahore, where Constable Waris wounded an imprisoned man, Zeeshan, who was taken into custody relating to electricity theft.
“The constable opened fire after the inmate repeatedly asked for a cigarette from Waris, who was appointed at the security of a lockup at the police station,” they said.
The injured was taken to a hospital for medical treatment as police arrested the cop for injuring a prisoner and registered a case against him.
The police said that they would investigate the incident and determine if it was over mere refusing a cigarette or anything else.
The doctors, who treated the injured accused, said that he was currently out of danger.

TikTok has helped reunite a man with his brother and other family members in Sukkur.
According to reports, the brother of the missing man recognised him after a video of his went viral on the video-sharing mobile application. He then approached the local police who helped him locate his missing brother, reuniting the missing person with his family.
SSP Sukkur told media outlets that a man came to them claiming that the person who posed as a beggar in the viral video was his brother and asked for their assistance in locating him. He said that the missing man was identified as Arz Muhammad and that he was missing for more than a year. Muhammad’s family had also earlier registered a complaint with the police over his disappearance.
TikTok is one of the most popular social media apps in the country. Recently, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had issued a final warning to the app over obscene and immoral content. In a statement, the regulatory body said that complaints were received from different segments of society against immoral, obscene and vulgar content on social media applications particularly TikTok and Bigo.
It also blamed the apps for bringing negative effects on society in general and youth in particular.
The parents of Sabika Sheikh, an exchange student from Pakistan who was killed in a fatal mass shooting in Texas two years ago, have created a foundation to honour her by giving university scholarships to low-income Pakistani women, according to a report in The Houston Chronicle.
17-year-old Sabika was among the 10 people murdered in the attack at Santa Fe High School near Houston, Texas. Thirteen others were wounded.
“I’m always worried that we might forget (Sabika),” Farah Naz, the mother, told The Houston Chronicle during a Zoom interview with the family. “But starting this foundation I know this is impossible. I know if I continue working with the foundation, she will always be with me.”
The foundation is a partnership between the Sheikh family and several nonprofit organisations. ACIE, the American Institute for Foreign Study and the International Education and Resource Network are providing a seed grant of $300,000 to establish the foundation.
Naz, Sabika’s mother, said that ACIE representatives approached the family prior to the coronavirus pandemic with the idea of honouring Sabika’s legacy through an educational foundation. While the pandemic presented some obstacles in getting the organisation off the ground, in part because the academic year in Pakistan was postponed, the hope is that the foundation will be prepared to give out scholarships whenever Pakistani schools reopen.
The Sheikh family said the scope of the foundation will target scholarships for universities in Pakistan for now, but will eventually expand to offering exchange opportunities for American schools “so that the connection and ties” with the United States continue, said Sania Sheikh, Sabika’s sister.
The new foundation will be led by a board of directors including representatives from the Sheikh family as well as four independent directors selected by the family in consultation with the partnering organisations.
Following the death of two lions – a male and female – at the Islamabad Zoo, DIG Operations Islamabad announced that an FIR (first information report) has been registered against those who set fire to the cage. According to details, the lions were injured due to mismanagement of caretakers who were trying to force them out of the cage by igniting a fire in their cage.
Advisor to the Prime Minister for Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam also expressed his shock over the matter and said that an emergency meeting of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has been called to discuss the issue.

In a video doing the rounds on social media, caretakers can be seen lighting a fire inside the cage in an attempt to force the lions to move out. Their act disturbed the lion, who is seen roaring and moving frantically inside the small cage full of fire and smoke. As a result of this, the animal sustained severe injuries and suffocation. Reports also stated that the lion was beaten with sticks. The lion was later shifted to a veterinary hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. Officials claim that the ill-trained caretakers did not belong to the zoo or Islamabad Wildlife Management Board but were sent to facilitate the lion’s transfer.
However, IWMB Chairman Dr Anis Rehman while speaking to AFP discarded the initial reports and said that the lioness died in Islamabad while the lion died after reaching Lahore, clarifying that the lions did not die because of fire.
“We are waiting for the postmortem,” Rehman said.

Meanwhile, earlier a nine-year-old female lion from Marghazar Zoo died while being moved to a lion sanctuary in Lahore. A male lion who was transferred with her is reportedly seriously ill. He is being looked after by veterinarians at the Mohiuddin Private Breeding Farm on Ganda Singh Road in Lahore.
IWMB Chairman Dr Anis Rehman said the lion possibly passed away “due to travel stress” while being relocated. The lions were moved at night between July 26 and July 27.
Dr Rehman explained that the process of shifting animals in cages causes them stress. In addition to this, weather conditions are also not favourable for the animals. According to reports, officials at the Ministry of Climate Change said that it was not advised to shift the animals in this hot and humid weather.
The death of the lions sparked outrage once again and social media users demanded action to be taken against those involved in their deaths.
Friends of Islamabad Zoo, who have been actively campaigning against the inhumane conditions at Islamabad Zoo, expressed their grief at the “unbearable loss of animal life that has occurred due to mismanagement and unqualified employees”. They also condemned “this gross lack of oversight”.
WWF-Pakistan also condemned the incident and hoped that those responsible are taken to task. They also said that “WWF-Pakistan has also stepped down from the Board of the IWMB” in protest.
In the wake of this incident, as a protest, WWF-Pakistan has also stepped down from the Board of the IWMB, of which it has been a member for several years.
Thus WWF-Pakistan has offered support to help improve the condition of zoos in the country and has lobbied for zoo standards and legislation, promoting cooperation and capacity building for an overall improved environment for the animals.
Unfortunately, the lions are not the only ones to die. According to Dawn, a female hog deer also died while being relocated. Dr Rehman said a male hog deer hit the female, wounding her, and she died during the journey to a sanctuary. Two ostriches, several exotic pheasants, two spotted deer, two elks, one Indian gazelle and a Belgian Blue cow have also reported having died en route. Animals at the Islamabad Zoo are being relocated to temporary sanctuaries after the Islamabad High Court ruled that the zoo is not fit enough for them and lacks the necessary facilities.

Robina Asti gave her final flight lesson Sunday for a flight academy at Riverside Municipal Airport.
Robina said she wanted to show that seniors are strong, vital, and can still contribute.
“I love getting people to experience what it’s like to lift off this Earth,” she said. “It is so good.”
She took student Brandon Martini with her. The previous record-holder, an Iowa man, flew at age 98. Robina has been teaching people how to fly for decades.
