  • Coronavirus: Twitter rejects President Alvi’s son’s request to call out India

    President Arif Alvi’s son Awab Alvi in a tweet urged people to use the word “Indian Variant” instead of “Delta Variant”.

    “Can we as Pakistanis stop using the word ‘Delta Variant’ and call it the ‘Indian Variant’,” wrote Awab.

    “It was & is predominant the variant which started in India Slowly & steadily the Indian lobby globally want to avoid negative narrative Let’s call them out on this,” he added.

    Alvi did a follow-up Tweet in which he asked Pakistanis what would they support calling the new variant? He gave two options: “Indian Variant” and “Delta Variant”. More than 60 per cent of the votes were given to Delta Variant.

  • ‘Girl had come to take her exams’: SSP Islamabad on the Usman Mirza case

    Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Atta-ur-Rehman has shared details about the girl and the boy who were harassed by Usman Mirza and other culprits. He shared the details in TV programme, ‘Mad-e-Muqabil’ with anchorpersons Rauf Klasra and Amir Mateen.

    The police officer said that they traced the couple and reached out to them for investigation and assured them that the state, media and people are with them and asked them to cooperate, after which the couple recorded their statement.

    He further shared that the girl was from Lahore, and she came to Islamabad to give an exam, and the boy present in the video was her fiance who helped her with the accommodation by asking his friend for his apartment for a day.

    Usman Mirza and gang showed up at the apartment when the boy stepped out to buy groceries and harassed the girl. The police say they will try to take the case to its logical conclusion.

    SSP, while answering a question, said that Usman Mirza was allegedly drunk and he was armed, which is why it was difficult for anyone to rescue the couple.

    The incident happened in November last year probably, shared SSP Atta-ur-Rehman, adding that the couple got married later with the consent of both families.

    A video went viral on social media recently in which Usman Mirza was seen torturing, harassing, and assaulting a young couple in Islamabad along with his accomplices. Mirza was arrested after the video went viral. His accomplices have also been arrested.

  • ‘Dilip Kumar was the greatest actor’: Imran Khan and senior politicians express their grief

    Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed his grief over the death of legendary actor Dilip Kumar.

    He tweeted, “Saddened to learn of Dilip Kumar’s passing. I can never forget his generosity in giving his time to help raise funds for SKMTH when project launched. This is the most difficult time – to raise first 10% of the funds & his appearance in Pak & London helped raise huge amounts. For my generation Dilip Kumar was the greatest and most versatile actor.”

    Imran Khan on his Instagram account also shared an old picture with Dilip.

    Other senior Pakistani politicians also expressed their sorrow on the demise of the veteran actor:

    Earlier, today legendary Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar passed away at the age of 98. Known as the tragedy king of Indian cinema, he acted in over 65 films as a leading hero. The Devdas actor made his acting debut in 1944 with Jwar Bhata.

  • Separate schools for transgender community to be opened in Punjab

    Education Minister Punjab Murad Raas on Tuesday said that the Punjab government will establish separate schools for the transgender community.

    “We are opening first ever Transgender School in Pakistan. Why would we deny education to anyone in our country? Our first school is opening in Multan tomorrow,” tweeted Murad Raas.

    He further added: “We will open such schools in all Districts of Punjab InshAllah. One step at a time. Education for All.”

    Addressing a ceremony held regarding Insaf Afternoon School Programme (IASP), Raas said that the government decided not to enroll transgenders in regular schools because of some reservations about the behaviour of other students. He added that the attitude of students of regular schools could be insulting towards the transgender community, which was why separate schools were being established for them.

  • ‘Considering talking to insurgents’: PM Imran

    Prime Minister Imran Khan, while addressing an event in Gwadar, said that he is considering “talking to insurgents” in Balochistan, adding that the government would never have had to worry about the insurgency in the province if attention had been paid to its development.

    “It may be that they had grievances in the old times and may have been used by other countries … India may have used them to spread chaos but the situation [now] is not the same,” added the premier.

    The premier said that he had always thought that when the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) came to power, the government would pay attention to Balochistan because when the province progressed and there was peace, Balochistan’s people would “understand that Pakistan is also theirs”. PM said that then the people of Balochistan would say that they should also fight for Pakistan because it thinks of their basic needs and problems.

  • Matric paper leaked in Karachi

    The question paper of Physics of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Annual Examination 2021 (matriculation exams) has been leaked on social media, and the solved paper is being widely shared. SSC exams across Sindh started from today, The News has reported.

    As per details, the Physics paper began at 9:30am on Monday. At 9:34am, images of a solved exam paper were doing the rounds on social media.

    According to the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) Chairperson Syed Sharaf Ali Shah, a total of 348,249 students have registered for the ninth grade and matric exams in science and general groups.

    In addition to that, multiple examination centres across the city complained of a delay in the delivery of question papers. More than 300,000 students of classes 9 and 10 will sit in the examinations this year and more than 438 examination centres have been set up in Sindh and Intermediate exams will be held from July 26.

    Woman gets misprinted Rs1,000 currency note from ATM in Karachi

    A woman received a misprinted currency note of Rs1,000 from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in Karachi’s Landhi area on Saturday.

    As per reports, the woman withdrew a note of Rs 1,000, which had two pictures of Quaid-e-Azam. However, the serial number was properly written on the note. The woman said that she was afraid to use that note as people might think that she was the one who prints fake notes.

    The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) spokesperson, in a statement, asked the woman to submit the misprinted note to the SBP.

    He said that an inquiry is under way and strict action will be taken against the bank, if found guilty.

    Woman withdraws rape complaint, says suspect is her husband

     A woman withdrew her allegation of getting repeatedly raped by a man at his house where she was staying after “returning from the United Kingdom” to attend her father’s funeral, claiming that the “suspect” was her husband.

    As per reports, the woman had earlier alleged that she had come to Pakistan from the UK six months ago for her father’s funeral. She said she was living at the house of her father’s close friend in Wahdat Colony, where his son allegedly raped her for three days.

    Police had filed a rape case against the suspect and detained him.

    However, when the woman appeared before a judicial magistrate, she claimed in a statement on Sunday that the suspect is her husband.

    Deputy Inspector General (investigation) Shariq Jamal Khan told the media that the woman had first accused the man of raping her for three days but during the inquiry, she did not agree to undergo medical inspection and also backtracked on the rape allegation.

    The officials said the families of the woman and the suspect submitted a marriage certificate showing she was married to the accused. After that, she removed the rape complaint.

    The DIG said the woman was also involved in different cases of bounced cheques and presenting fake ID cards and documents to hide her identity.

    He said police investigations had revealed that the woman, who is from Multan, has never been to the UK.

  • Ansar Abbasi rejects Domestic Violence Bill and Twitter is angry

    Senate passed two key government bills related to human rights last month, which include the Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Bill 2021 and the Islamabad Capital Territory Senior Citizens Bill 2021.

    Both the bills were opposed by Mushtaq Ahmed from Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Atta-ur-Rehman from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), and Rana Maqbool from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) .

    Analyst Ansar Abbasi took to his Twitter account to oppose the bill using the hashtag “We_Reject_Domestic_Violence_Bill_2021”.
