    Imran Khan threatens to go on hunger strike in jail

    Incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that he will consider to go on a hunger strike over mistreatment dished out to him in Adiala jail, Geo News reported on Friday.

    Sources within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) told Geo News that Imran will decide the strike date after consulting with other party leaders.

    Imran Khan called his party leaders a day ago, but jail authorities did not allow them to meet him. Party leaders waited almost three hours outside the jail, while Imran Khan waited inside to start the huddle.

    After that, the former Prime Minister directed party leaders to stop discussing internal conflicts in public.

    On Thursday, PTI leaders told journalists that prison authorities didn’t allow them to meet Khan despite waiting for hours.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shehryar Afridi has said in a political talk show on ARY News last night, “Army is my honour, respect, and my faith.”

    Journalist Waseem Badami reminded the PTI leader about his past statements from 2019 when Afridi said that the “Chief of Army Staff (COAS) is akin to my father.”

    Badami asked Afridi whether his views had evolved, to which the former Minister of State replied that, “The head of the state – General is like a father. There is no doubt about it, though no person is above the law.”

    He also remarked, “My leader Imran Khan says that the army is worth more than his life. And those unfit people who want to pitch PTI in front of the Army will fail.”

    Khan says PTI to participate in APC to hear what govt says about Azm-e-Istehkam

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan stated on Friday that PTI will participate in the All-Parties Conference (APC), during which the government will take all the political parties into confidence over the newly launched military operation Azm-e-Istehkam.

    Speaking to reporters in Adiala jail during a hearing, Khan said, “My party will participate in the All-Parties Conference and hear what the government has to say.”

    Imran Khan also voiced concerns over the operation, saying it would “only lead to further instability” in the country.

    The federal cabinet approved a new anti-militant operation last week following the Apex Committee’s recommendations to take down terrorists across the country.

    However, opposition parties including the PTI, Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Awami National Party (ANP), and others have voiced concerns over the military operation, demanding that parliament must be taken into confidence before taking any such decision.

    Multiple leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been indicted in a vandalism case registered against them at the New Town police station Karachi, ARY News reported on Friday.

    PTI members, including Raja Azhar, Fahim Khan, Shah Nawaz Jadoon, and others, confessed to the crime.

    Earlier, Islamabad police arrested PTI Islamabad chapter president Amir Mughal just before the upcoming PTI’s public rally in the capital city on July 6.

    NADRA’s appeal against restoration of Hafiz Hamdullah’s identity card scheduled for hearing

    The Supreme Court of Pakistan has scheduled the hearing of NADRA’s appeal against the restoration of the identity card of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Hafiz Hamdullah.

    A two-member bench headed by Justice Muneeb Akhtar of the Supreme Court will hear the case on July 10.

    NADRA had cancelled the identity card on grounds of Hamdullah being a foreigner.

    The Islamabad High Court declared the cancellation of Hafiz Hamdullah’s identity card null and void and ordered its restoration.

    NADRA has now filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Islamabad High Court.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Rauf Hassan has said that incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan refused to meet former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry in Adiala jail.

    During an interview on ARY News’ programme ‘Off The Record’, Hassan said that party head Imran Khan refused to meet Fawad despite the latter’s request.

    The PTI spokesperson also confirmed that no one in the party contacted the former federal minister and asked him to stop speaking against PTI.
    “We are not afraid of anyone’s return, but the agenda (for the move) is important,” Rauf Hassan stated.

    “Fawad Chaudhry currently has no place in the party. Imran Khan will decide on the return of those who left the party after his release,” the PTI spokesperson confirmed.

    Punjab govt wants to suspend social media from Muharram 6 to 11

    The federal government has rejected the Punjab government’s request to suspend social media platforms for six days during Muharram ul Haram, Geo News reported today.

    The Interior Ministry believes that security would be foolproof during the holy month, so there would be no need to shut down social media platforms across the province.

    “Security should be made more active and effective,” said the Interior Ministry, adding that mobile signals will be blocked in areas where processions and majlis will be held.

    The Punjab government, in a matter of urgent security, has requested to suspend access to all social media platforms for a week during Muharram ul Haram, as reported by Geo News today.

    The federal government will decide on the province’s request: “Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi will present the issue before Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today.”

    Shia Muslims hold processions across the globe, including in Pakistan, with thousands of policemen deployed to ensure security during the month.

    Geo News also reported that Mohsin Naqvi is not in favour of suspending social media; the decision will be made after a meeting with the Prime Minister.

    The Punjab Home Department sent a request to the Ministry of Interior to suspend all social media platforms from Muharram 6 to 11, aiming to avoid sectarian violence in the country.

    Tax exemption to army officials, bureaucrats challenged in Lahore High Court

     A petition challenging tax exemption conferred to bureaucrats and military officials in the federal budget has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC).

    Advocate Nadeem Sarwar has submitted a plea challenging tax exemption given to certain individuals on behalf of citizen Mashkoor Hussain.

    “The federal government has provided relief to the bureaucracy and military officials in the budget,” the plea read.

     “In the constitution, all citizens are equal; thus, offering tax exemption has been a violation of the constitution,” the petitioner maintained in the filed plea.

    Mashkoor Hussain requested that the court strike down the amendment in section 236 of the Income Tax Ordinance as invalid.

    Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz said on Thursday said that when  the Punjab government pursued a sexual assault case, it was turned into a “religious issue.”

    Maryam stated at the Etihad Bainal Muslimeen Conference in Lahore today, “A child was raped, and a religious person who was connected to a seminary was found guilty of it. He was just a little child who was kidnapped from outside the mosque.”

    She further explained, “When the suspect was found guilty, and Punjab Police arrested him – it was twisted into a religious issue. Since then, Fatwas against me have been issued on social media.”

    The Chief Minister said that everyone knows when any person is found guilty of a crime, their punishment according to the law is necessary to uphold the sanctity of religion.

    Former senator Hidayatullah Khan killed with four others lin Bajaur IED blast

    A terrorist attack on Wednesday claimed the lives of five people, including former senator Hidayatullah Khan, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district.

    Dawn has reported that the blast was a targeted attack in which an improvised explosive device (IED) was used in the Damadola area of Bajaur.

    Khorasan Diary reported that the militant organisation Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) has denied any involvement in the incident.

    When he was attacked, the former senator was on his way to a by-election campaign in Damadola.

    Chief Minister of KP, Ali Amin Gandapur, condemned the incident and summoned a report from police authorities.

    Social media reactions were sympathetic and regretful, with many fearing the rise of extremism in Pakistan.
