    Maulana Fazl backs PTI in NA speech

    Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, in his first speech in the National Assembly, criticised the ruling government, the recent general elections of February 8, civil bureaucracy and the establishment.

    Fazl emphasized that Pakistan was created through the democratic struggles of the people, “Neither bureaucracy nor establishment has a role in the creation of the country.”

    Maulana took the sitting assembly to task asserting, “Is this a parliament of representatives of the nation or a setup arranged by the establishment?”

    He also said this is the first kind of election in which the losers are upset and even the winners are not satisfied.

    The JUI-F leader also supported Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Asad Qaiser’s demand for granting the right to the latter’s party to organise public gatherings, terming it the Imran-founded party’s “constitutional right”.

    Fazl said that his party raised objections to the previous 2018 general elections as well, terming it similarly “fraudulent”.

    Court fines FIA, PTA, PEMRA Rs. 500,000 each

    The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday fined FIA, PTA, and PEMRA Rs500,000 each while also dismissing their petitions regarding Justice Babar Sattar’s recusal from the audio leaks case.

    Last week, PEMRA filed a petition asking that Justice Babar recuse himself from hearing the case.

    At least four departments filed the applications and said that petitions of Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s wife, and former CJP Saqib Nisar’s son Najamul Saqib should be placed before the same bench that had decided an identical matter in 2021.

    Justice Sattar had been hearing the audio leaks case ever since it surfaced in 2023.

    Now interestingly, the applications by the four departments came after a letter by six IHC judges, including Babar Sattar, was written to the Supreme Judicial Council alleging interference by spy agencies in judicial matters.

    Separately, on April 28, a press release was published by the IHC condemning the “malicious campaign against Justice Babar Sattar” on social media.

    Allegations of dual citizenship and Sattar’s mother’s business enterprises abound. However, the IHC wholly defended Justice Babar Sattar saying that “confidential information” of the judge has been posted on social media.

    During a talk show on Neo News, Senator Irfan Siddiqui of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) recounted an exchange where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, when questioned about his work routine, quipped, “I operate on a 26-hour day.”

    The senator was impressed with the dedication and work ethic of Prime Minister Shehbaz and when he asked the PM about an extra two hours a day then PM replied, “I sleep in those two hours”.

    The senator then stated that given the work discipline of PM Shehbaz, it is logical that he depends on assistants.

    People on social media have some things to say about the 26-hour day of Prime Minister Shehbaz.

    Daniyal Aziz, former MNA of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has stated in an interview with regret that “This was N-League’s last election”.

    Daniyal Aziz and his wife did not get PMLN tickets for 2024 elections and they ran their electoral campaigns independently.

    Aziz said that the reason he thinks this is the party’s last election is because “The things they have done; there was no respectable man who wasn’t humiliated by terrorism of police.”

    He said that this wasn’t just his opinion but it’s a common public perception that they have crossed lines with the people. The former minister also stated that this assault wasn’t just targeted at PTI but it happened everywhere and randomly.

    Aziz recounted, “Do you think the people will forget what authorities did to them?”

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Information Secretary Raoof Hasan does not think that the party will take back its former information minister Fawad Chaudhry.

    Raoof said on a talk show at Hum News, “I did not receive any green light from PTI founder Imran Khan about taking Fawad back in the party’s camp.”

    The Secretary Information of PTI stated that many left the party when it came under hard times and now want to come back because they have lost public support but Imran Khan didn’t approve their re-entry.

    Hasan also said that a new leadership within PTI has emerged that is a lot more ideological and younger, after the May 9 incidents.

    Meanwhile, another PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat also claimed that “some friends” were trying to re-induct Fawad in the party, however, party leadership and workers had reservations.

    Ishaq Dar: Wazir-e-Kharja Se Deputy Wazir-e-Azam Tak Ka Safar

    According to a surprising notification issued by the Cabinet Division on April 28, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has been appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister of the country, a position not recognised in the Constitution.

    Dar was appointed as the country’s foreign minister after the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) formed a coalition government after the general elections this year.

    Historically, there is only one person who held the same position as Dar does now – Pervaiz Elahi in 2012 after Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) allied with the then-ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

    Interestingly, X (formerly Twitter) users pointed out that the constitution of Pakistan makes no mention or reference to “deputy prime minister” at all.

    Predictably, people on social media had some things to say about Dar’s new appointment.

    Azaz Syed, senior journalist of The News, revealed on Geo’s ‘Report Card’ that Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was in contact with a few judges from Lahore and Islamabad during the past few years.

    Referring to Faisal Vawda’s recent statement on Samaa News where he stated, “There were two judges who called Imran Khan when he was in the container and one of those judges is still serving.”

    Azaz claimed that Faisal Vawda’s statement was indeed true.

    Furthermore, Syed narrated, “The former Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, Amir Bhatti, directly contacted a judge in Islamabad and pressured him to take a decision in favour of Imran Khan.”

    Azaz Syed implicated former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Saqib Nisar, who used to act as a liaison between the federal and Punjab judiciary on behalf of Imran Khan.

    Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Advisor to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Information, has once again reiterated the need to start a dialogue with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as the country reels from a surge in terror attacks.

    Saif stated that the recent significant loss of lives on “both sides” should prompt Pakistan to opt for a peaceful way to get out of this mess.

    “We must consider the possibility of dialogue if terrorists are willing to renounce terrorism. The situation must be approached realistically. Lives are being lost on both sides, and the only way to halt this is to pursue peaceful means. This does not imply any form of surrender to the terrorists.”

    The statement comes a few days after CM KP Ali Amin Gandapur also said that the country needs to open a dialogue with terrorists because “Whatever we have done has gained us nothing.”

    The Advisor also revealed that the terrorists are in contact with him, “Members of the TTP have been in contact with me, discussing their issues. At times, when the TTP has issues with the Pakistan army, they communicate it through me.”

    Social media reactions were mostly critical of Barrister Saif.

    ‘Baat hogi tou sirf army chief aur DG ISI say’: Shehryar Afridi

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Shehryar Afridi claimed on Friday that his party will soon hold dialogue with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) instead of talking to individuals who he believes were rejected and reached parliament through Form 47.


    Afridi gave his statement during an interview with the Geo News show Naya Pakistan when he was asked for his opinion on how to achieve political stability in the country.
    The PTI stalwart criticized the PML-N led government, claiming that they are a group of “rejected people” who are being “controlled remotely” and got into parliament through “Form 47”. He also accused the ruling parties of being “backed by the establishment”.
    Responding to calls for reconciliation, he said that there was no benefit for the former ruling party to hold dialogues with the “people rejected by the nation”.

    “My leader doesn’t want any NRO. We want dialogue for the betterment of Pakistan,” Afridi said, adding that PTI founder Imran Khan wants to engage all stakeholders for a better country.

    The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has sent a summary to the Ministry of Energy, proposing to impose taxes on domestic and commercial solar panels.

    Geo reported that it has been proposed to collect a tax of Rs. 2000 per Kilowatt from domestic and commercial solar panels that are in use.

    Furthermore, the summary suggested that tax be levied on 12 Kilowatt solar panel grids. According to sources, Rs. 24,000 would be charged to customers who are using a 12-kilowatt solar panel.

    It is not clear as yet whether this tax will be a one-time expense or a monthly expense.

    The summary has been sent to the Prime Minister for approval.

    Social media reacted angrily to the news.

    Meanwhile, reportedly the rates of solar panels are also under consideration and if the summary is approved, NEPRA will be requested to reduce the rates of solar panels further.
