  • Central Asian Volleyball Championship shifted from Pakistan to Uzbekistan

Central Asian Volleyball Championship shifted from Pakistan to Uzbekistan

The Central Asian Volleyball Championship, originally scheduled to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan, on May 29, has been relocated to Uzbekistan amid rising tensions between Pakistan and India following the recent Pahalgam attack.

The relocation was prompted by security concerns raised by participating teams, who were hesitant to travel to Pakistan amidst regional instability. The incident in Pahalgam, located in Indian-occupied Kashmir, resulted in the killing of 26 Indian tourists, significantly escalated diplomatic tensions between the two neighbouring countries.

The final decision to move the tournament was made during a recent meeting of the Central Asian Volleyball Federation held in Nepal. The Pakistan Volleyball Federation has officially confirmed the event’s relocation.

In response to the Pahalgam incident, India has taken several diplomatic actions, including the suspension of certain provisions of the Indus Waters Treaty, prompting Pakistan to issue a strong response. The worsening relationship between the two nuclear-armed countries has begun to impact regional sports, with the volleyball championship being the latest casualty.

The tournament will now be held in Uzbekistan on the originally scheduled dates.

  • Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan’s Instagram accounts blocked in India

Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan’s Instagram accounts blocked in India

In the latest episode of Indian insecurity over Pakistani media channels, celebrities and influencers’ penetration and popularity among Indian audiences, the country has now blocked the Instagram accounts of star Pakistani cricketers Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam.

As per the details, India’s Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered a ban on a number of Pakistani YouTube channels and social media accounts.

While several accounts, including those of Pakistani news outlets, celebrities and cricketers, were banned over the past 48 hours, now, the Indian government has gone on to block in the country the official social media accounts belonging to incumbent Pakistan captain Rizwan and batting sensation Babar.

Earlier, India also blocked the YouTube channels of former captains Rashid Latif and Shahid Afridi, as well as speedster Shoaib Akhtar and former cricketer Basit Ali.

India has cited “national security concerns” as the reason for blocking the content amid escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours over the deadly Pahalgam attack in held Kashmir last week.

At least 26 tourists were killed in a gun attack on April 22, following which New Delhi continues to hurl baseless allegations against Pakistan. The allegations, which Islamabad has denied with proof, have led to war rhetoric from across the border besides global calls for peace and restraint.

  • Mohsin Naqvi summoned for briefing on PSL, stadium renovations

Mohsin Naqvi summoned for briefing on PSL, stadium renovations

The Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat has once again summoned Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The committee has requested a detailed briefing on the performance of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as well as an account of the expenses incurred in renovating cricket stadiums in Karachi and Lahore.

In addition, Mohsin Naqvi will brief the committee on the overall performance of the PCB over the past six months.

The PCB spent approximately PKR 12 billion on upgrading stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi in preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. These renovations were aimed at bringing the venues up to international standards.

Both the National Stadium in Karachi (NSK) and Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore were handed over to the PCB in early February after major upgrades, just two weeks before the start of the Champions Trophy, which kicked off on February 19.

Key upgrades included new seating arrangements, digital scoreboards, renovated washrooms, a pedestrian bridge, modern LED floodlights, and enhanced dressing rooms. A new five-storey building at NSK was constructed, housing physio rooms, anti-corruption units, and media facilities. Gaddafi Stadium received similar treatment, including a light show setup for fan entertainment during matches.

These changes were tested during a pre-tournament tri-series involving Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand, and aimed to improve the experience for both players and spectators.

The Champions Trophy concluded on March 9, with India defeating New Zealand by four wickets in the final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Now, with the tournament concluded, the committee seeks transparency on how the significant funds were spent and how the PCB has managed its operations during this high-stakes period.

  • Is Vaibhav Suryavanshi really 14? Questions raised after old clip goes viral

Is Vaibhav Suryavanshi really 14? Questions raised after old clip goes viral

Indian Premier League (IPL) sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has sparked a wave of excitement and controversy after scoring a blistering century at the age of 14. While many have praised the young batter’s remarkable performance, questions are now being raised about his actual age.

Representing Rajasthan Royals, Suryavanshi stunned the cricketing world by smashing a century off just 35 balls against Gujarat Titans. His knock not only made him the youngest player to score a century in IPL history but also the fastest Indian to reach a T20 hundred.

However, following the historic feat, several social media users and former athletes began questioning Suryavanshi’s age, with some claiming he may actually be 16 years old.

آئی پی ایل میں سنچری بنانیوالے 14 سالہ بھارتی کرکٹر کی عمر پر سوال اٹھ گئے، پرانا بیان وائرل

Former Indian boxer Vijender Singh took to social media to indirectly question the player’s age, saying, “Looks like reducing age is becoming a norm in cricket too.” His post added fuel to the growing scepticism surrounding the young cricketer’s true age.

The controversy stems from a now-viral interview Suryavanshi gave in 2023, in which he claimed to be 14 years old. If his statement from that interview is accurate, his age in 2025 would now be 16—not 14, as widely reported.

Despite the doubts, major cricket websites and Indian media outlets continue to list Suryavanshi’s age as 14. According to his Cricinfo profile, his date of birth is March 27, 2011, which would make him 14 years and 36 days old at the time of his century.

The discrepancy has led to widespread speculation online, with many asking whether Suryavanshi deliberately hid his real age to participate in the IPL. As of now, neither the Rajasthan Royals nor Suryavanshi himself have issued a statement addressing his age.

The Rajasthan Royals purchased Suryavanshi for 1.10 crore Indian rupees during the IPL mega auction.

  • ‘I don’t know what’s happening between Pakistan and India,’ says Rizwan

‘I don’t know what’s happening between Pakistan and India,’ says Rizwan

Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan believes that politics should have no place in cricket, saying he remains unaware of Pakistan-India matters because he doesn’t follow social media. This comes amid tensions between Pakistan and India following the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Kashmir on April 22, which killed 26 people.

Speaking to the media in Lahore on Thursday, Rizwan said, “When we meet players like Virat Kohli and Joe Root, we meet as a cricket family. We learn from them, and we also share our knowledge with them.”

Commenting on team selection, he stated that the process varies depending on the conditions, adding that all teams have opted for spinners in the tournament. “We are out of the tournament, and we deserved to be. Mistakes were made. We couldn’t gain momentum in fielding,” he admitted.

Addressing the pressure that comes with leadership, Rizwan said, “If I say I don’t feel [under] pressure, that would be a lie. There is pressure when you represent Pakistan and lead the team. People are watching. The same goes for Multan Sultans. We must accept the pressure and work on correcting our mistakes.”

He also addressed the debate around modern cricket styles, stating, “People say we should play modern-day cricket, but what about the conditions? Sometimes, in T20s here, it feels like playing a Test match.” Giving the example of the T20 World Cup, he highlighted that the team “struggled to chase even 120. We shouldn’t copy others; instead, we should focus on what the conditions demand.”

Speaking about other teams in the PSL, he noted, “Lahore Qalandars have their own energy, Quetta has built strong momentum, and Karachi and Islamabad have built excellent teams.”

When asked about Babar Azam and Peshawar Zalmi, Rizwan responded warmly, saying, “Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi needs prayers, and I’ll be praying for them. If we had taken our catches, we wouldn’t be in this situation today.”

It merits mention that Multan Sultans have been eliminated from the race for the PSL 10 trophy.

  • India blocks Arshad Nadeem’s Instagram account

India blocks Arshad Nadeem’s Instagram account

India has reportedly blocked access to the Instagram account of Pakistani Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, accusing him of violating local laws, in what is being seen as part of a broader crackdown on Pakistani influencers with a significant Indian following.

According to reports, Instagram cited a “legal request” as the reason behind restricting access to Arshad Nadeem’s official account, @arshadnadeem29, within India. When accessed from India, the profile displays a message stating that the account has been restricted due to a legal demand.

In its explanation, Instagram mentioned, “We reviewed this content in light of our policies and human rights standards. Access to the content was restricted in India under local laws where it was deemed unlawful.”

Interestingly, Nadeem’s account on X (formerly Twitter) remains accessible in India.

The move comes shortly after a deadly terror attack in the Pahalgam region of Iegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir on April 22 resulted in 26 tourists losing their lives. Following the incident, the Indian government reportedly began blocking several Pakistani social media accounts under flimsy national security grounds—especially those with a considerable Indian audience.

Before Arshad Nadeem, former cricketers Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi and Basit Ali also saw their YouTube channels blocked in India.

Arshad Nadeem made headlines after defeating India’s Neeraj Chopra at the Paris Olympics with a remarkable throw of 92.97 meters, winning the gold medal. His performance earned him massive appreciation across the globe and a surge in social media popularity.

  • Cricket officially confirmed for 2026 Asian Games

Cricket officially confirmed for 2026 Asian Games

Cricket continues to make its mark on the global sporting stage as it has now been officially added to the 2026 Asian Games, set to be held in Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.

The decision follows months of negotiations between the Asian Olympic Council (AOC) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The tournament will feature both men’s and women’s cricket events, further boosting the sport’s profile in multi-sport competitions. While cricket had previously appeared in the Asian Games in 2010, 2014, and 2022, its re-inclusion marks a renewed commitment to promoting the game across Asia.

Top teams like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka are expected to participate, bringing high-profile cricket action to the event.

One of the key questions yet to be resolved is the venue for the matches. Organizers are reportedly considering a modular stadium setup similar to the model used in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the United States.

The inclusion of cricket in the Asian Games comes shortly after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) made headlines by reintroducing cricket into the Olympics after an astounding 128 years. The sport will return at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in the T20 format, with six men’s and six women’s teams taking part. Each team will have 15 players, and a total of 90 players per gender will be allocated spots in the event.

The last time cricket was played at the Olympics was during the 1900 Paris Games, making its 2028 return a historic moment for the sport.

  • Shaheen, Haris Rauf reach major T20I milestone

Shaheen, Haris Rauf reach major T20I milestone

Lahore Qalandars’ fast bowlers, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf, achieved a significant milestone during their bowling spell against Islamabad United in the 19th match of HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10.

Both pacers completed 300 wickets in T20 cricket, marking a major achievement in their careers.

Shaheen Afridi reached this milestone in his 216th T20 match, while Haris Rauf achieved it in his 228th game. With this feat, Shaheen Afridi has become the fastest Pakistani bowler to take 300 wickets in T20 cricket. Haris Rauf now holds the position of the second-fastest Pakistani to achieve this milestone.

Previously, Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz jointly held the record, having taken 300 wickets in 256 T20 innings.

Globally, Shaheen Afridi is now the fourth-fastest bowler in the world to take 300 wickets in T20 cricket, adding another impressive feat to his growing list of achievements.

  • ‘No one sacrifices batting position more than me,’ says Babar Azam

‘No one sacrifices batting position more than me,’ says Babar Azam

Peshawar Zalmi’s captain Babar Azam has claimed that no player sacrifices their batting position more than he does.

Talking to a private TV channel in Lahore, the former Pakistan cricket captain shared his thoughts on the challenges his team has faced.

Babar explained that Zalmi started with two wins but has struggled with consistency since then. “Half of the tournament has passed, and we’ve lost matches in phases, sometimes in batting, sometimes in bowling,” he said.

He also highlighted that the team’s fielding has not been up to the mark, adding, “Regardless of conditions, we must stick to the plan and make sure we don’t drop catches or lose wickets at crucial moments.”

On a personal note, Babar acknowledged that people expect him to stay at the crease longer. “I enjoy even short innings, but I’ve not been able to play long ones as expected. I make mistakes and try to correct them, though new mistakes still happen — that’s just how it is. The key is how focused you remain. I am still very focused,” he said.

The captain also commented on his playing style, the constant talk around strike rates, and aggressive play. “I don’t need to prove to anyone what kind of player I am — everyone already knows. I always play according to the situation and the team’s needs. I’m fully aware of my strike rate,” he said.

When asked about his batting position, Babar clarified that he has never insisted on playing in a specific spot. “No one has changed positions as much as I have. I’ve batted at number six and even opened. Whether it’s for the franchise or the national team, I always play where I’m needed. I’ve never said I won’t bat at a certain number for fear of poor performance,” he added.

Babar emphasised the importance of performance over making statements. “I know how to speak, but my elders taught me to respect others. My job is to perform on the field. I work hard and am never satisfied with my performance. Even when I’ve been ranked number one, I always look ahead and think of my country.”

During his T20 career, Babar made it clear that decisions about whether he plays or rests are up to the selectors and coaches. “It’s not up to me whether I play or rest. My job is to perform, be it T20, ODI or Test cricket. I was told I’m being rested from T20s; let’s see what they decide next,” he said.

He also addressed the idea that ODIs might become less important because of T20 cricket. “The 50-over format tests your patience, and we now see scores over 350. ODIs have always been special for me, filled with good memories and performances,” he shared.

As for the PSL, Babar praised the league’s high standards and emphasised that its quality remains strong. “Interest may vary from match to match, but overall the quality remains. Foreign players want to participate. The bowling quality here is excellent — each team has bowlers who clock over 145 kph,” he said.

Babar acknowledged the love and support from his fans, saying, “Their love and support mean I must perform in front of them. It gives me confidence when fans appreciate me wherever I go. When the crowd chants ‘Babar, Babar’, I thank Allah for the respect I’ve received.”

Reflecting on his journey, he added, “I used to ride a bicycle to the stadium, dreaming of playing there one day. Now, the same crowd cheers for me. I remember starting as a ball picker and later playing as a bowler. I’m truly grateful to Allah and feel a greater responsibility not to let my fans down.”

Babar also shared his light-hearted side, admitting that he enjoys the memes made about him. “They’re a sign of affection from fans,” he said, showing his appreciation for the love he receives.

It is worth mentioning that Peshawar has won only two games in the ongoing PSL season and is on the verge of elimination before the playoffs.

VIDEO: Kuldeep Yadav slaps Rinku Singh in heated exchange during IPL

In a shocking turn of events during the Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Capitals’ spinner Kuldeep Yadav slapped Kolkata Knight Riders’ batter Rinku Singh on the field following a heated exchange during the match.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media platforms, showing Kuldeep Yadav striking Rinku Singh after the match concluded. The altercation reportedly began during the game, where tensions flared between the two Indian cricketers. On-field players intervened to calm the situation at the time, and the matter was later reported to the match referee.

However, the situation escalated again after the match ended. As players from both teams gathered, Kuldeep Yadav was seen slapping Rinku Singh in front of other cricketers and officials.

Kuldeep’s aggressive behaviour has drawn heavy criticism from fans and social media users, with many calling for strict disciplinary action. Several users have demanded that Kuldeep Yadav be fined or suspended for his inappropriate conduct.

The match itself ended in favour of Rinku Singh’s team, as the Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Delhi Capitals by 14 runs.

This incident has drawn comparisons to a similar episode from the inaugural IPL season in 2008, when former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh slapped his teammate Sreesanth during a match, an act that led to significant controversy and disciplinary action.
