The Test match is being played in Multan, where Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first. The day’s play started late due to fog, beginning at 1:30 PM instead of the scheduled time.

  • Nasser Hussain has a big prediction for star batter Saim Ayub

Nasser Hussain has a big prediction for star batter Saim Ayub

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has made an important prediction about young Pakistani opener Saim Ayub.

In a podcast with Mike Atherton, Nasser Hussain included Saim Ayub in his list of the next generation’s “Fab Four” cricketers. Alongside Saim, Hussain nominated England’s Harry Brook and India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal. His fourth pick was Australia’s Travis Head, though Atherton questioned this choice due to Head’s age.

When asked who could be the next “Fab Four” of cricket, Hussain said, “Saim Ayub has the potential to be a dynamic player for Pakistan.” He highlighted Saim’s recent injury, saying, “It’s uncertain if he will be fit for the Champions Trophy. Saim could become an important top-order player for Pakistan in all formats.”

On the other hand, Mike Atherton selected Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra, England’s Harry Brook, and India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal for the next “Fab Four.”

    What is the “Fab Four”?

The term “Fab Four” was introduced by former New Zealand captain Martin Crowe in 2013. He predicted that “Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, and Steve Smith would dominate cricket for the next decade.” His prediction came true. Whether Hussain and Atherton’s predictions will come true remains to be seen.

Currently, Saim Ayub is undergoing treatment in London after a severe ankle injury during the Cape Town Test against South Africa. His participation in the Champions Trophy is uncertain.

So far, Saim has played only nine One Day Internationals (ODIs), scoring three centuries and one half-century. His standout performances in the ODI series against South Africa, where he scored two centuries, helped Pakistan achieve their first-ever series whitewash against the Proteas.

Saim Ayub’s future looks bright, and he is a player to watch in the coming years.

  • BCCI issues 10 strict rules for players ahead of Champions Trophy

BCCI issues 10 strict rules for players ahead of Champions Trophy

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a ten-point guideline for India’s contracted men’s players to encourage discipline, unity, and a positive team atmosphere.

This move is in response to recent poor performances in Test matches. The document warns that failing to follow these rules could lead to serious consequences, including disciplinary action, exclusion from domestic cricket and the IPL, and cuts to central contract payments.

The new policy, titled ‘Policy Document for Team India,’ takes effect immediately and was shared with the players on Thursday.

Policy Document for Team India (Senior Men)

    1. Participation in Domestic Matches is mandatory for players to remain eligible for selection in the national team and for central contracts, as per BCC guidelines. This policy ensures that players remain connected to the domestic cricket ecosystem, fostering talent development, maintaining match fitness, and strengthening the overall domestic structure. It also inspires emerging players by providing them opportunities to compete alongside top cricketers, ensuring continuity in talent progression. Any exceptions to this mandate will be considered only under extraordinary circumstances and will require formal notification and approval from the Chairman of the Selection Committee, ensuring fairness and transparency in the process.

    2. Players Traveling Separately with Families All players are expected to travel with the team to and from matches and practice sessions. Separate travel arrangements with families are discouraged to maintain discipline and team cohesion. Exceptions, if any, must be pre-approved by the Head Coach and Chairman of the Selection Committee

    3. Excess Baggage Limit Players are required to adhere to the specified baggage limits shared with the team. Any excess baggage costs will need to be borne by the individual player. This policy helps streamline logistics and avoid unnecessary expenses.

This ensures that the focus remains on team operations and minimizes logistical challenges. – this has to be done away with.

    7. Personal Shoots During Series/Tour Players are not permitted to engage in personal shoots or endorsements during an ongoing series or tour. This avoids distractions and ensures that the players’ focus remains on cricket and team responsibilities.

    8. Family Travel Policy The family travel policy ensures a balance between players’ personal well-being and team commitments:
Eligibility: Players absent from India for more than 45 days during overseas tours can be joined by their partners and children (under 18) for one visit per series (format-wise) of up to a two-week period.

    * Provisions: The BCCI will cover shared accommodation with the player for the Visitors’ Period. All other expenses are to be borne by the player.

    * Coordination: Visits must be scheduled at a single time on dates agreed upon by the coach, captain, and GM of operations.

    10. Players Returning Home if Matches End Early Players are required to stay with the team until the scheduled end of the match series or tour, regardless of whether matches conclude earlier than planned. This ensures unity, fosters team bonding, and avoids disruption to team dynamics.

These rules were introduced amid the Indian cricket team’s struggles with poor performances in recent Test matches.

They lost to New Zealand 0-3 at home, and then Australia defeated India 1-3 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

  • Saim Ayub to miss Champions Trophy? Shahid Afridi has updates

Saim Ayub to miss Champions Trophy? Shahid Afridi has updates

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has confirmed that opener Saim Ayub will not play in the upcoming Champions Trophy as he recovers from an injury.

In a podcast interview with a private TV channel, Afridi revealed that he spoke to Saim over the phone to check on his condition. Saim shared, “I will need another three weeks to recover, after which my rehabilitation will begin.”

Afridi advised Saim, saying, “As a senior cricketer and elder brother, I advise you not to rush your recovery. Fully heal before returning to the team to avoid worsening the injury.”

Afridi expressed that Saim’s injury is a setback for Pakistan, “especially given his excellent form, but we lack a ready backup for him.” He added, “We need match-winning players, and I hope the team will perform well in the tournament.”

Saim Ayub was previously included in the preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is still awaiting his medical reports before making a final decision about his participation.

With Saim’s absence, there is a strong chance that openers Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq will return to the squad. Both players played crucial roles in Pakistan’s victories during the 2023 World Cup.

Saim Ayub sustained an ankle injury while fielding on the first day of the Cape Town Test against South Africa. The initial diagnosis recommended six weeks of rest.

  • Gautam Gambhir accuses THIS youngster of leaking dressing room chats

Gautam Gambhir accuses THIS youngster of leaking dressing room chats

Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly accused young player Sarfaraz Khan of leaking confidential information from the Indian dressing room during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

Khan, who did not play any Test matches despite performing well in the previous home series against New Zealand, has been at the centre of the allegations after some internal team information was leaked.

The accusation was brought up during a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) review meeting about the Australia tour in Mumbai.

Gambhir reportedly blamed Khan for revealing details of a heated argument between the coaching staff and players after India’s big loss in the fourth Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The leaked information is said to have included a strong reprimand from Gambhir, who expressed frustration over the team’s lack of discipline and failure to follow game plans.

Khan’s absence from the playing XI in the series, despite his impressive 150-run performance earlier, has fueled speculation about his relationship with the coaching staff.

However, Indian sports journalist Vikrant Gupta pointed out that the meeting included the chairman of the selection committee, the head coach, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and other senior officials, questioning, “How can Sarfaraz Khan leak the conversation? They are making him a scapegoat.”

On the other hand, Indian media said that Gambhir’s accusations could affect Khan’s career, especially since Gambhir is still in charge as head coach.

  • BCCI considering new batting coach for Gautam Gambhir’s team

BCCI considering new batting coach for Gautam Gambhir’s team

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is thinking about hiring a new batting coach for head coach Gautam Gambhir’s team.

The move comes after India’s disappointing batting performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, especially from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

India lost to New Zealand 0-3 at home and to Australia 1-3. India only managed to score over 300 runs twice in 10 innings during their tour to Australia.

The BCCI has started discussing potential candidates for the batting coach role, but nothing has been confirmed yet. They are considering former players from domestic cricket for the position.

When Gautam Gambhir became the head coach, only T Dilip, the fielding coach, remained from Rahul Dravid’s coaching staff. The rest of the coaching staff includes Morne Morkel (bowling coach), Abhishek Nayar, and Ryan Ten Doeschate. Nayar, a former Mumbai player, is currently the batting coach, having worked with Gambhir at Kolkata Knight Riders.

Both Rohit and Kohli have faced heavy criticism. Rohit failed to score more than 10 runs in his five innings during the BGT series, while Kohli was dismissed by deliveries outside the off-stump eight times in his nine innings against Australia.

BCCI is seriously exploring the possibility of appointing Sitanshu Kotak, currently India A head coach, as the national team’s head coach.

On the other hand, Gautam Gambhir’s position as the Indian cricket team’s head coach is under threat following a series of losses.

Gambhir took over as head coach in July last year. Since then, the team has lost six out of 10 Test matches and a One Day International (ODI) series in Sri Lanka.

The situation worsened after India was shockingly whitewashed by New Zealand in a home Test series and lost a Test series 1-3 against Australia.

These defeats have cast doubts not only about the future of star players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma but also about Gambhir’s role in the team.

Indian media reported that Gambhir’s performance as head coach will be reviewed if India fails to perform well in the upcoming Champions Trophy. Although his contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) runs until the 2027 World Cup, the recent poor performance could lead to further scrutiny of his role.

Sources from BCCI revealed that Gambhir has not delivered significant results so far.

If India does not perform well in the Champions Trophy, his position will be closely examined, and a decision regarding his future could be made.
