    The International Boxing Association (IBA) declared the Italian boxer Angela Carini as the Olympic champion despite being defeated by Algerian Imane Khelif in just 46 seconds of the first round game at the Paris Olympics.

    President IBA Umar Kremlev has announced that the governing body will give Carini the fixed prize money for the gold medalist.

    The IBA allocated $3.1 million in prize money for the 100 medalists of the May Olympics boxing event. The gold medal has a prize of $100,000, of which $50,000 will be given to the player, $25,000 to the coach, and $25,000 to the federation.

    The Algerian Olympic Committee strongly protested against the issue and wrote a letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), stating, “The Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee concludes to the knowledge of national and international public opinion, that follows the official complaint submitted today by our Olympic body to the International Olympic Committee, regarding the violation and serious violation of sport ethics and affecting the Olympic Charter, in the person of our champion Imane Khelif, by one of the participants in the boxing tournament for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 The International Olympic Committee has issued a final apology to violators with an order to delete every post that concerns our heroine Iman Khalif.”

    “We reserve the right to prosecute everyone who participated in the heinous campaign against the heroine Imane Khelif. Good luck to our heroine, and long live.”

    The fight between Algerian woman boxer Imane and Hungary’s Luca Hamori is scheduled today. In the first fight, Imane defeated Angela Carini in just 46 seconds after the Italian conceded, crying on her knees in the ring while refusing to shake her opponent’s hands.

    The International Boxing Association (IBA) disqualified Imane based on an unspecified test. But the Olympics committee has clarified that she is a biological woman but born with “elevated levels of testosterone.”

    Algerian boxer Imane Khelif has become the center of a racist attack after her opponent Angela Carini of Italy quit their match while crying, just 46 seconds into the first round.

    The two women exchanged just a few punches before Carini’s helmet was dislodged. She refused to shake Imane’s hands and cried on her knees in the ring. Later, she said that she quit after experiencing intense pain in her nose. Notably, she said that she had not refused to fight Imane.

    The match led to an uproar among right-wing Western conservatives, including Harry Potter author JK Rowling and Elon Musk, who instantly resorted to calling Imane a man because she had failed an unspecified test in the World Boxing Championships last year. The governing body said she had “elevated levels of testosterone.”

    Social media was quick to rally to Khelif’s defence, pointing out that she had been competing as an amateur since years and had been defeated by women before this match.

    Users shared childhood pictures of the Algerian sportswoman, showing her in girl’s clothing and pigtails. Others pointed out that Algeria is a conservative Muslim country where women cannot have gender reassignment surgeries and transgenderism is legally barred.

    Nida Kirmani wrote that the episode proved that black and brown athletes face immense racism.

    Algerian Football Media account called her a “superwoman”.

    Another account called out Rowling and pointed out that Khelif just has elevated testosterone, something she was born with.

    Others called out Carini for crying about being hit in a boxing match.

    A South Korean Olympic sharpshooter, Kim Ye-ji, who won a silver medal in the women’s 10-meter air pistol, became an internet sensation on Wednesday, recognised as the breakout style star of the Paris Games.

    Wearing her black South Korean uniform zipped up to her neck, a baseball hat, and wire-rimmed shooting glasses, the 31-year-old appeared very calm in videos showing her and her teammate achieving the two highest shooting scores in the Olympics on Sunday.

    After her win, a 27-second clip of Kim calmly aiming, shooting, and checking her record-breaking score went viral.

    This clip was first shared in a Reddit thread and shows Kim at the Baku World Cup in May, not in the Olympics.

    Even though the video kept spreading online on X (formerly Twitter), along with images of Kim from Paris, style magazine GQ quickly called Kim “the coolest style star of this year’s Games.”

    Elon Musk (Owner of X) also commented on this video, “She should be cast in an action movie. No acting required.”

    Kim will compete in the 25-meter pistol again on August 3 at the Olympics.

    Former Indian cricketer and coach Anshuman Gaekwad has passed away at the age of 71 after a long battle with blood cancer.

    According to media reports, he was undergoing treatment for blood cancer at King’s College Hospital in London before returning to India last month.

    He made his Test debut on December 27, 1974, against West Indies in Kolkata and played his last Test match against England at the same venue in 1984.

    He played 40 Tests and 15 ODIs for India between 1974 and 1987.

    In the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden, the winning athletes were given ‘gold medals’ made of pure gold.
