PCB offers $2 million annually to Shane Watson to coach men’s cricket team

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has offered $2,000,000 to former Australian cricketer Shane Watson to become the highest paid coach in the history of Pakistan cricket.

According to Geo News reports, Shane Watson has been offered an annual salary of $2 million.

However, the report quoted sources close to Shane Watson claiming that he may not accept the offer because he does not want to be away from his family for a long time.

Mike Hesson and Darren Sammy are among the main candidates to coach the Pakistan Men’s Cricket Team, in case Watson refuses. Mike Hesson and Darren Sammy are currently serving as the head coaches for Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi respectively.

PCB is also mulling the possibility of appointing local coaches along with foreign consultants to fill the vacancy in time for the T20I series against New Zealand in April.

Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn and Andrew Puttick resigned from their respective positions in January this year.

Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade retiring from red ball cricket

Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade has announced his retirement from red ball cricket on Friday.

The Sheffield Shield Trophy final will now be the last match of Matthew Wade’s Test career.

However, for now, Matthew Wade will continue to play white-ball cricket and is hopeful of being included in the squad for the T20 World Cup scheduled in the USA and West Indies.

“I want to be at my best for white-ball cricket, especially BBL, I feel like the squad we’ve got with the Hurricanes should be, it is spoken about every year … pushing for finals if not contending for titles,” he said on Friday.

“Not playing the longer format of the game will give me an opportunity to get stronger, get in the gym a bit more and have some longevity in that format.”

“I’ve got two years (with Hobart) but I’d love to play longer if I could. I feel fresh. There certainly isn’t (an element of) ‘I’m not playing well enough or I don’t feel I can contribute enough’. It’s more the younger players have managed to shove me out the door.”

Matthew Wade represented Australia in 36 Test matches from 2012 to 2021.
