‘Made a mistake’: Amir should apologise to Harbhajan Singh, says Saeed Ajmal

Former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal wants former Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir to apologise to Harbhajan Singh for “jumping in” between Shoaib Akhtar and the Indian bowler’s Twitter conversation.

Speaking to Cricket Pakistan, Ajmal said that players should treat each other well because cricket brings people together.

“I think Amir made a mistake by jumping in that conversation [between Shoaib Akhtar and Harbhajan Singh] and he should apologise for it. It was a discussion between two great cricketers and Amir made the wrong choice by getting involved in it,” he said.

Amir and Singh indulged in a war of words a couple of days ago when the former taunted the latter after India beat Pakistan in the T20 World Cup match on October 24.

Harbhajan responded to Amir, and the two had a heated exchange, bringing everything into the mix from Amir’s spot-fixing controversy to Shahid Afridi smashing Harbhajan for four consecutive sixes in a 2006 Lahore Test match.

During the interview, Ajmal also spoke about the Pakistan cricket team’s performance so far in the World Cup, adding that he was pleasantly surprised by the energy and performance of the team.

‘It is my fault’: Dr Nauman Niaz apologises to Shoaib Akhtar

Pakistanm Televison (PTV) Sports anchor Dr Nauman Niaz has finally apologised to Shoaib Akhtar for his verbal spat during a live TV show.

There was a strong backlash from Pakistani cricket fans, after Nauman Niaz had told Akhtar to leave the show during a live transmission in the presence of cricket veterans such as Sir Vivian Richards and David Gower. People demanded that Nauman be fired for insulting a cricket legend like this.

The panel was discussing the Pakistan-New Zealand T20 World Cup match, which Pakistan won by five wickets.

In a statement on a YouTube channel on Thursday, the TV host said that the reaction to what he did on air was justified and he said, “I apologised thousands of times over my conduct.”

“Whatever the reason, I had no right to do all this on-air, it was my fault. Shoaib Akhtar is a star and I love his cricket,” Niaz continued to take responsibility for his actions.

Nauman added: “Shoaib was contracted with us on the basis of exclusivity. People thought I was just a host but they don’t know that I also sign salaries of all employees, including Shoaib. It was an overlapping [on my part] and again there is no justification for it.”

Niaz also shared how his father was also upset about his behaviour. Akhtar also stated on a programme on Geo News, ‘ Jashn-e-Cricket’ that he has forgiven Dr Niaz for the benefit of the country and state institutions.

Earlier, PTV also launched an inquiry into the spat and took Dr Niaz and Akhtar off-air until completion of the probe. While reacting to the news, Akhtar said that he resigned on-air.

  • ‘Treat injured woman cricketer with Babar’s India match fee’: says Babar’s father

‘Treat injured woman cricketer with Babar’s India match fee’: says Babar’s father

Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam’s father, Azam Siddique, has asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to treat woman cricketer Bisma Amjad through the captain’s match fee, which he had received in the T20 World Cup fixture against India.

“I request PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja to immediately make arrangements for national cricketer Bisma Amjad’s treatment,” Siddique said in an Instagram post.

Following her treatment, the board officials, according to Geo News, had rejected to pay for her medical bills after which the woman cricketer began to weep. At this, someone offered to pay for her expenses.

Later, after the cricket board was severely pummeled on social media, the PCB issued a statement, saying that Bisma Amjad suffered a concussion during a women’s training camp at the Sindh regional academy.

“The PCB, as a responsible organisation is continuing to look after her wellbeing as well as treatment expenses,” it added.

Azam’s father was referring to the October 24 match in which Pakistan had beaten India by 10 wickets during the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, in a video statement, Amjad also confirmed that she had suffered a head injury during a practice session, following which the PCB officials had taken her to a private hospital.

“I am feeling better after PCB had me treated at a private hospital,” she added.

‘Pointless’: Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis slam match-fixing ‘conspiracy theories’ after India beats Afghanistan

Former Pakistan captains Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram were critical of suggestions on social media of match-fixing during the India-Afghanistan clash. The pace bowling duo dismissed the claims as ‘conspiracy theories’.

After two back-to-back defeats, India finally registered a victory in the T20 World Cup with a comprehensive 66-run win over Afghanistan. However, while most of the cricketing fraternity praised India’s dominant performance, some users on social media started a viral trend alleging the match was fixed and India ‘paid’ well.

Reacting to the trends, Akram said on A Sports, “I don’t know why we like to create such conspiracy theories? India are a very good team. They just had couple of bad days at the start of the tournament.”

Waqar echoed the sentiment saying, “It’s a pointless thing to say and people should not give it much attention.”

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, India scored 210 for two in their must-win Super 12 game. This is so far the highest score of this World Cup and the only time a team crossed the 200-run mark in what has been a low-scoring tournament.

Babar Azam becomes world’s no 1 batter after prolific performance in T20 World Cup

Captain of Pakistan cricket team Babar Azam on Wednesday unseated England’s Dawid Malan to become the top-ranked T20I batter in the world according to the latest ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings.

Babar now sits on top of ICC’s T20I batsman rankings with 834 points and Milan is number 2 with 798 points.

Two successive half-centuries in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 have helped the batter overtake Malan and grab the number 1 position.

Babar, who scored 51 against Afghanistan and 70 against Namibia to lead the 2009 champions into the semifinals, is at the top for the sixth time in his career. The 27-year-old had first attained the top position on January 28, 2018. He is presently also ranked No 1 in ODIs.

Babar’s tally of 834 rating points keeps him 36 points ahead of Dawid Malan but Babar’s career best remains 896 rating points that he achieved after scoring 65 against England at Cardiff on May 5, 2019. Malan had been at the top since November 29 last year.

Alt News first searched for archived links of tweets by @criccrazyygirl to find the unique Twitter ID of the account. “When we found a tweet on Wayback Machine, we viewed the source code of the page and found that its unique Twitter id is ‘1386685474182369290’. Twitter’s policy allows a user to change their username, however, the numeric ID or the unique ID remains constant despite a change in the username as it is unique to that account.”

Some replies to @criccrazyygirl on Twitter were redirected to @ramanheist. This means both accounts were the same but the username was changed.

The same of finding archived tweets of @ramanheist was used on Wayback Machine and was looked for the unique Twitter ID on the source code page.

They also found archived links of tweets where @ramanheist is talking about trading on NIFTY, which is an Indian stock market index. He also shared an e-mail by Zerodha, which is an Indian financial services company. This suggests that the person behind the account hails from India.

Interestingly, from its most recent username @criccrazyygirl, the account had retweeted tweets in Telugu, which also hints it is an Indian account.

The earliest username that the person used to operate under, which Alt News was able to locate, was @pellikuturuhere, which is a Telugu word. We found a reply to @pellikututuhere that suggested the person is from Hyderabad.

A further rummage of replies to @criccrazyygirl took us to a tweet where a user had replied to the account but @cricccrazyygirl’s tweet is not visible since the account doesn’t exist anymore. They searched for an archived link of the reply on Wayback Machine and found that by the time Wayback Machine had crawled the tweet, the username of @criccrazyygirl had been changed to @StellaisBihp.

Wayback Machine also reveals that the person has retweeted tweets by OpIndia, its CEO Rahul Roushan and pro-BJP accounts. They also retweeted anti-Muslim tweets, tweets on Hindus and pro-BJP tweets. Below is a tweet in Hindi by Ashok Shrivastav that the user retweeted. The tweet is about the Aryan Khan case and a Shiv Sena leader’s petition to the Supreme Court against Khan’s arrest where he urged the top court to protect Khan’s fundamental rights.

The person’s Twitter activity does not suggest that they are from Pakistan. The claim that a Pakistani bot account posted an objectionable tweet targeting Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s daughter is false. The account is from India.
