  • VIDEO: Man arrested for harassing women at Lahore bus stop

    The Punjab police detained a man on Thursday for harassing three women waiting at a bus stop in Lahore.

    A Twitter user, Hasna Khan Dasti, posted a video that shows a man advancing towards the women who were running away from him.

    Soon after the video did the rounds on social media, the Punjab police shared a picture of the suspect in custody, saying that the police had registered a case and arrested the suspect.

    Since the Minar-e-Pakistan incident, the number of sexual harassment and assault cases has increased up to 300 per cent in Lahore.

    A police report stated that during the past 1.5 months, 642 cases of sexual harassment were registered under sections 354, 354-A and 509-B as compared to the number of incidents up to less than 150 that had been reported before August 14.

    Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shariq Jamal Khan said that the ratio of sexual assault and harassment cases was high in the past but previously people used to avoid registering cases.

    He added that the actions related to the accused in the incident of Greater Iqbal Park have encouraged the women to report such cases. He said that the authorities will take strict action in such cases.

    Actor Sidharth Shukla passed away on Thursday, an official at the Cooper Hospital revealed that he suffered a massive heart attack early in the morning. He is survived by his mother and two sisters.

    He was 40, and recently won the thirteen season of Bigg Boss. Hospital Authorities said that he took some medicine before sleeping and didn’t wake up. Later, the hospital confirmed that he passed away due to a heart attack. According to the sources, he was brought dead to the hospital.

    He is survived by his mother and two sisters. “He was brought dead to the hospital some time ago,” the senior Cooper Hospital official told Indian Media.

    Sidharth Shukla began his career in showbiz as a model and made his acting debut with a lead role in the television show Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na.

    Born on 12 December 1980 in Mumbai to Ashok Shukla and Rita Shukla, Sidharth’s family has roots in Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh.

    He completed his schooling from St. Xavier’s High School, Fort and later graduated in Interior designing from Rachana Sansad School of Interior Design.

  • Coke Studio 2021: Rohail Hyatt’s loss is Xulfi’s gain?

    Musician Xulfi will be taking over Coke Studio’s forthcoming season. The Aghosh singer has confirmed the news on his Twitter handlle. Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan popularly known as Xulfi is a producer, singer-songwriter, composer and guitarist.

    “Shuru karain? (Let’s begin?),” the official twitter handle of Coke studio wrote while tagging Xulfi in the post to which the singer responded with a smile emoji, confirming that he is now taking over Coke Studio.

    Earlier, this year in March Rohail Hyatt, during a Twitter exchange with a fan, revealed that he is stepping down as Coke Studio’s (CS) producer.

    Rohail later in a twitter exchange suggested that Xulfi is the best option to replace him a s producer.

    Hyatt joined Coke Studio in 2008 with its first season but stepped down after 6 seasons. He was later brought back for the 12th season in 2019, though it failed to impress audiences. Rohail also produced the latest Season 13, which had only twelve songs due to COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns.

    Court orders Shah Abdul Latif University to take law colleges exams delayed since three years

    The Sindh High Court’s Sukkur bench on Tuesday ordered the Shah Abdul Latif University to hold the law college exams in phases.

    As per reports, the petition was filed by law students pleading that the university has not taken their examinations for the last three years.

    The Registrar of Shah Abdul Latif University was present in the court today.

    “Why the exams have not held for the last three years,” Justice Aftab Ahmed Gorar asked the Registrar. “The papers were delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic,” the university’s official replied.

    “The pandemic situation exists for one year but the papers have not been taken for the last three years,” the Justice remarked.

    “You have put the future of hundreds of students at stake,” Justice Gorar added.

    “The university should arrange exams twice or thrice in a year to complete the students degree course within five years,” the bench ruled.

    The court also asked the university officials to prepare and submit the exams schedule to the court within two hours.

    In the last hearing, the court issued arrest warrants of the university’s registrar officer and ordered his presence in court for ignoring the court orders.

    The students’ counsel in the previous hearing said that in spite of strict orders, the registrar did not come to the court.

    Member of Sindh Assembly Syed Abdul Rasheed has submitted a draft of “The Sindh Compulsory Marriage Act, 2021” to the Sindh Assembly Secretariat, Dawn has reported. The proposed bill seeks to make it mandatory for parents to marry of their children as soon as they turn18. The proposed bill also states that parents who do not have any justified reason for the delay in the marriage of an adult will be fined.

    However, the bill is unlikely to be passed but the proposed bill got a massive reaction from social media with most people criticising it.
