Police officers given death sentence over fake encounter

A local court in Faisalabad has given the death sentence to four police officials and imposed a fine of Rs one million on them for their involvement in a fake police encounter that happened six years ago in the Millat Town area of the city.

Additional and Sessions Judge Sajida Akhtar announced the verdict. The alleged encounter took place on August 8, 2018, at approximately 9:00 pm in Millat Town, Faisalabad.

The fake encounter resulted in the deaths of two people, Arsalan Liaquat and Usman Munawwar, under disputed circumstances.

The police officials convicted in the case include ASI Javed Akhtar, Head Constable Asghar Ali, Constable Falak Sher, Constable Faisal Rehman, and Police Qaumi Razakar employee Waqas.

However, the court acquitted an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) who was also nominated in the case due to a lack of evidence against him.

The court remarked that it found sufficient evidence to convict Asghar Ali, Waqas, Falak Sher, and Faisal Rehman, sentencing them to death and imposing a fine of Rs one million each.

The complaint was filed by Sajid Mahmood, a resident of Panjore, who nominated the police officials for killing the two boys.

The prosecution argued that victims Arsalan and Usman were riding a motorcycle and were on their way to Bagh Wali Pully near Millat Town after having shawarma when they were stopped by the police team, who then opened fire on them, resulting in their death.

After a six-year-long legal battle, the court ordered the immediate arrest of the four convicted officers, who were later sent to jail to serve their sentences.

The News report from 2018 says that the deceased were college boys and had no criminal record.

  • ‘Collaborate with Chahat Fateh Ali Khan’, Sher Afzal Marwat’s advice for Fawad Chaudhary

‘Collaborate with Chahat Fateh Ali Khan’, Sher Afzal Marwat’s advice for Fawad Chaudhary

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) maverick leader Sher Afzal Marwat, while talking to the press, had advice for former PTI leader Fawad Chaudhary, “Collaborate with Chahat Fateh Ali Khan to play the tabla.”

Fawad Chaudhary has been getting into Twitter brawls with current party leadership as the former tries to gain back some clout in the party.

A few days ago, Faisal Chaudhry, brother of Fawad Chaudhry, fell victim to Party Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja’s wrath, who removed the advocate from the party’s WhatsApp groups in a fit of rage. Party sources said that Faisal’s unauthorized media talk to journalists outside Adiala Jail proved to be the final straw, but Faisal himself said that he was penalized for telling the truth to Imran Khan when he met him a few days earlier in Adiala jail.

On October 26, PTI’s Raoof Hasan lashed out at the two brothers, calling them “tout brothers,” in a post that was pinned on his page. The post reads: “Faisal Chaudhry’s entry into the arena is a sinister attempt to create divisions within PTI. Having failed in similar previous efforts, the tout-brothers have been let loose to carry forth the agenda. Seeing through this criminal effort, PTI stands united behind the decision to oust him from the legal team. He has nothing to do with @ImranKhanPTI cases, which will be handled exclusively by lawyers designated by the party.”

Meanwhile, Fawad quoted his tweet with a rather angry reply: “Faisal has done 500 plus cases for PTI workers free of cost on the other hand you the bastard brother of Fawad Hassan Fawad Is drawing 7.5 Lakh Rs salary and provided details to agencies about all SMT and media workers of PTI, that resulted in arrests of hundreds of workers.. you are not loyal to anyone BC..”

And what is a fight without PTI’s own Sher Afzal Marwat? That is why Marwat made a funny remark about Chaudhary saying: “I have an advice for Fawad Chaudhary that these days he is completely free and no one is ready to include him in their party. Therefore, he should collaborate with Chahat Fateh Ali Khan to learn to play the tabla.”

This also isn’t the first time the two have called out each other in public. For instance, Marwat once criticised Fawad Chaudhary, saying that he “ran away from police like an elephant” when he was about to get arrested at Islamabad High Court.

  • Maya Khan: A Strong Journey Through Media, Activism, and Controversy

Maya Khan: A Strong Journey Through Media, Activism, and Controversy

Maya Khan is a famous name in the Pakistani television industry. Due to her active engagement with the media and intense and controversial opinions, she has gained popularity over the years. Fans of her assertiveness or critics don’t matter; what matters is Maya Khan’s impact on the media in Pakistan’s history. The evolution of Maya Khan from a child TV host to a complex woman who wears many ‘hats’ is one of struggle, transformation, and persistence. Let’s go through Maya Khan’s journey!

Early Beginning of Maya Khan Host

Maya Khan began her journey in the media industry very young. The audience first noticed her as a host on some TV channels where she could use her natural charm and uniqueness in interviewing. Thanks to her delightful style, she became the audience’s love, and it opened new doors for her. The affinity with the audience Maya Khan host displayed while grappling in the industry’s early years would be one of the most dominant characteristics in most of her later work.

As time passed, Maya Khan rose to fame. Her morning shows became famous in no time and captured sizable viewerships, establishing her as an able and energetic presenter. Viewers appreciated her difficult-to-offend personality, and her practical approach toward ordinary issues of Pakistanis and their everyday lives made her more relatable. Such discussions enabled her to relate to her viewers, who began to see her as a voice for their everyday issues.

The Infamous Scandal and Public Reaction

Maya Khan host career went off the hook when she appeared in a morning television show in 2012. She and her followers went about to show themselves as morality police as they went around more or less harassing couples in parks. They asked them questions about their relationships. That episode was often the subject of criticism from the public. They claimed she was an unprofessional worker who mediated and encroached on the privacy domain. Maya’s image as a manipulative journalist and the scandal became all over the news as she was the focal point of the discussions.

As a result of the scandal, Maya Khan host had to quit the channel where she worked. Ever since then, her career has never been the same again. She was quickly hatched on by the media, saying she needed to redeem herself. What most reminds them is how powerful the media can be and the extent to which privacy should be respected. Eventually, Maya Khan host couldn’t help but apologize, said she was sorry, and hoped to grow from the situation. Her taking accountability slowly helped her rebuild her reputation.

Maya Khan Host Comeback and Transformation

Maya Khan had to step back and reflect on how she used the media after the controversy. She made a comeback with time, but this time with more thoughtfulness and tact on sensitive issues. This change allowed for second chances from many of her viewers, who liked that she was ready to change.

It began a new chapter for Maya with her return, which was all about her shift in hosting style. Maya Khan host started addressing subjects more sensitively and focused more on health and social issues than tacky scandals. Health, women’s rights, and social responsibility are just some of the areas Maya Khan’s shows concentrate on. Such themes appealed to audiences, and she retained her industry position. She had come quite far from the worries of her earlier controversies, and the new content was more mature and thoughtful.

Maya Khan as an Advocate for Social Issues

In the last few years, Maya Khan host has become a champion for many societal causes. She has litigated for people to pay attention to issues such as mental health, domestic violence, and education. In her programs and public addresses, she has intentionally focused on these aspects of society, which are generally the most neglected.

People began to take notice of her efforts, and her respect grew over time. Her efforts included on-air segments and outreach programs, which answer the question, What positive changes have been made? Now, the direction of her activities is not only limited to entertainment. She has stood for all the NGOs and other organizations, which makes her belongings more celebrated.

    Her Personal Life

Maya Khan is a very powerful character on television, but she is discreet about her personal life. She occasionally posts photos of herself, her family, and her personal experiences. There have been many obstacles in her way, and the path was not a bed of roses. Despite that, Maya has been able to pursue her career in media due to her tenacity and grit.

She is influenced by her closest relatives and her experience, which makes her understand the nature of the issue differently. By sharing her experience, she sets an example to individuals in similar situations that it is not the end of the world. Her life is an adventure of transformation, demonstrating how one can fall, learn from it, and continue moving forward.

    Maya Khan Husband

Maya Khan husband details are hardly in the public domain. Viewers are interested in Maya Khan husband details, but she likes to keep such matters to herself. This allows her to concentrate on her career and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

    Maya Khan Age

Maya Khan age is not shown. Born on September 8, her current age is in the context of her years spent in the industry. Even at such an age, she never fails to amaze her audience with her acts, and that is how one can define Maya Khan’s age with no limits where you have zeal and focus.

    Maya Khan Future in Media

Maya Khan’s journey is far from over. However, her career still has more to see as every new stage unravels new insights and challenges. Stakeholders may be happy that she has already built a reputation as a resilient and flexible media personality. Maya Khan’s upcoming project sounds interesting, and it can be presumed to showcase her strong belief in social issues and her entertainment style.

In light of the media’s ever-transforming nature, Khan will be required to prove that she is still capable of being a relevant and influential figure almost a decade after she first made her mark. However, historical evidence in her case has shown that she more than measures up. Her journey is evidence of what it takes to reinvent oneself, and her impact will continue to resonate with aspiring Pakistani media personalities.

  • ‘Amazing’ AI de-ages Tom Hanks in new film ‘Here’

‘Amazing’ AI de-ages Tom Hanks in new film ‘Here’

Tom Hanks has praised the “amazing” use of artificial intelligence to de-age him “in real time” on the set of new movie “Here,” even as he accepted that the technology is causing huge concern in Hollywood.

“Here,” out in theaters Friday, stars Hanks and Robin Wright as a couple striving to keep their family together through births, marriages, divorces and deaths, across multiple decades and even generations.

Hanks portrays his character from an idealistic teen, through various stages of youth and middle age, to a frail, elderly man.

But rather than just relying on makeup, filmmakers teamed up with AI studio Metaphysic on a tool called Metaphysic Live, to rejuvenate and “age up” the actors.

The technology worked so fast that Hanks was able to immediately watch his “deep-faked” performance after each scene.

“The thing that is amazing about it is it happened in real time,” said Hanks.

“We did not have to wait for eight months of post-production. There were two monitors on the set. One was the actual feed from the lens, and the other was just a nanosecond slower, of us ‘deep-faked.’

“So we could see ourselves in real time, right then and there.”

The rapidly increasing use of AI in films including “Here” has triggered vast concern in Hollywood, where actors last year went on strike over, among other things, the threat they believe the technology poses to their jobs and industry.

Hanks acknowledged those fears during a panel discussion with director Robert Zemeckis at last weekend’s AFI Fest in Hollywood, saying a “lot of people” were worried about how it will be used.

“They took 8 million images of us from the web. They scraped the web for photos of us in every era that we’ve ever been — every event we’ve filmed, every movie still, every family photo that might have existed anywhere,” Hanks explained.

“And they put that into the box — what is it, ‘deepfake technology,’ whatever you want to call it.”

    – ‘Cinematic’ –

The use of AI is not the only unusual technological feat in “Here.”

The film is entirely shot from one static camera, positioned for the most part in the corner of a suburban US home’s living room.

Viewers occasionally see glimpses of the same geographic space before the house was built, as the action hops back and forth to colonial and pre-colonial times — or even earlier.

“Here” is based on a graphic novel by Richard McGuire, which uses the same concept.

“It had to be true to the style of the book, and that’s why it looks the way it does,” Zemeckis told AFP.

“It worked in levels that I didn’t expect. It’s got a real powerful intimacy to it, and in a wonderful way, it’s very cinematic.”

But the film’s use of AI has drawn the most attention.

    – ‘Very serious subject’ –

AI was also at the heart of a very different film at AFI Fest — “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl,” the latest film for the beloved British stop-motion characters.

When Wallace constructs a “smart gnome” to take care of chores, his faithful pooch Gromit immediately sniffs danger.

Once Feathers McGraw — the nefarious penguin introduced to audiences in 1993 short film “The Wrong Trousers” — gets involved, the technology takes a sinister turn.

AI becomes “the wedge between Wallace and Gromit,” explained co-director Merlin Crossingham.

“It is a very light touch, although it’s a very serious subject,” he said.

If “we can trigger some more intellectual conversation from our silly adventure with Wallace and Gromit, then that can’t be a bad thing.”

The film itself did not use AI.

“We don’t and we wouldn’t,” said Crossingham, earning hearty applause from the Hollywood crowd.

“Vengeance Most Fowl” will be broadcast on Christmas Day in the United Kingdom and Ireland, before airing globally on Netflix from January 3.

  • Who tweeted in Babar’s support from Fakhar’s account?

Who tweeted in Babar’s support from Fakhar’s account?

Pakistan batsman Fakhar Zaman recently tweeted in favour of Babar Azam, leading him to be dropped from the central contract. But did Fakhar tweet himself, or was someone else behind it?

Now, national right-handed batsman Ahmed Shehzad has raised his concerns about this issue. In his vlog on YouTube, he said, “Fakhar Zaman’s tweet has cost him dearly. It’s like his wings have been clipped, and I think the Cricket Board’s decision is the right one. The situation is that Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, and Rizwan are all under the same agent (Saya Corporation). That agent got Fakhar Zaman to tweet, which has now led to him being dropped from the team and losing his central contract. Now, it raises the question: will that agent also get the other players to tweet on Fakhar’s behalf?”

“It seems like Fakhar Zaman may be regretting his actions now, as they have backfired on him. His people have used him. Fakhar might realize what happened to him a bit later, but in essence, he’s been used by his own people. No centrally contracted player would ever tweet like Fakhar Zaman did on someone else’s behalf, he added.

Talking about PCB’s decision to drop Fakahr from the central contract, he said, “I think PCB’s decision is spot on. It sends a strong message not only to the player involved but to all other players that PCB makes the decisions and that their role as players is to perform, focus on improving team rankings, and fulfil their roles as best they can. It’s a wake-up call to focus on the field, especially considering the recent decline in Pakistan’s performance across formats.”

Babar Azam was dropped from the last two Test matches of the recent series against England, after which Fakhar tweeted in his favour.

But PCB issued a show-cause notice, and later, he was dropped from the central contract 2024-25.

Kate Winslet reveals truth behind Titanic’s iconic scene

Was there really room on the door for Jack in Titanic? Decades after the film’s release, Kate Elizabeth Winslet has finally cleared up the mystery surrounding the iconic floating debris, revealing it wasn’t a door at all but rather a piece of floating wood.

During an interview on at a 92nd street Y event, English actress Winslet recalled how the water wasn’t as deep as it appeared in the film, stating, “That was quite an awkward tank. Because, to burst the bubble, it was waist height at that time.”
She joked about the challenges of the shoot, revealing, “I was regularly like, ‘Can I just go for a pee?’ I’d have to climb off the door and walk to the edge of the tank, which was sort of 20 feet away.”

Reflecting on her rise to fame, Winslet mentioned the pressure she felt afterward, saying “I felt like I had to look a certain way, or be a certain thing, and because media intrusion was so significant at that time, my life was quite unpleasant.”
Titanic released in 1997, tells the love story of Jack and Rose aboard the ill-fated RMS Titanic. Their romance blossoms amid class struggle and the ships tragic sinking, capturing the hearts of audience worldwide.
The film was directed, written and produced by James Cameron.

‘If we remove auto-tune, then Aima Baig isn’t a singer’, says singer Sara Raza

Singer Sara Raza Khan has criticised Aima Baig’s singing skills.

Recently, Sara appeared on the show Zabardast with Wasi Shah, where she shared her thoughts on popular Pakistani singer Aima Baig’s singing skills, as well as on Mehwish Hayat as a singer.

Speaking about Aima Baig, Sara said, “If we take away auto-tune, then Aima Baig isn’t a singer.”

She then commented on Mehwish Hayat’s talents, stating, “There are many like this — we might enjoy them as actors or entertainers, but if I needed someone to act or model in a film or an item song, I’d hire Mehwish Hayat for her performance, not for singing because she can’t sing. I’m sorry, but that’s true.”

Fakhar Zaman parts ways with ‘SAYA’ following tweet for Babar Azam

Pakistan team’s opening batter Fakhar Zaman has parted ways with his player agent company ‘Saya Corporation’, his elder brother announced in a social media post.

In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Gohar Zaman confirmed that Fakhar Zaman is no longer part of the company. Several cricketers, including white-ball captain Mohammad Rizwan and former captain Babar Azam, are associated with the company.

Sources indicate that Fakhar Zaman left the company due to an alleged social media post in favour of Babar Azam. It is believed that the player’s agent did not choose an appropriate time for the social media post.

Fakhar’s tweet in favour of Babar Azam:

National cricketer Fakhar Zaman had severely criticized Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to drop former captain Babar Azam in the second and third Test matches against England.

Fakhar wrote on X sitting Indian star cricketer Virat Kohli, “It’s concerning to hear suggestions about dropping Babar Azam. India didn’t bench Virat Kohli during his rough stretch between 2020 and 2023, when he averaged 19.33, 28.21, and 26.50, respectively.”

“If we are considering sidelining our premier batsman, arguably the best Pakistan has ever produced, it could send a deeply negative message across the team. There is still time to avoid pressing the panic button; we should focus on safeguarding our key players rather than undermining them,” he wrote.

The Pakistan squad for the second and third Tests against England was announced on Sunday, while Babar Azam, Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi have been dropped from the team.

PCB’s show-cause notice to the Fakhar:

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had taken strict action against batsman Fakhar Zaman after Zaman publicly supported Babar Azam in a tweet on X.

According to Geo, PCB has issued a show cause notice to Fakhar Zaman and asked for a reply within a week. Geo sources say that the notice was issued to Fakhar due his public criticism of the selection policy, stating that the tweet was a violation of discipline.

Fakhar Zaman dropped from central contract 2024-25:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently announced the central contracts for the 2024-25 season, and unfortunately, Fakhar Zaman was dropped from the list.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi has explained the reason behind sacking Fakhar Zaman from the central contract.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, October 27, Naqvi said, “Any national team player cannot go around tweeting his opinion on decisions made by the selection committee.”

    Samar in Fatima Jinnah Drama

This newly expected role in a driven series takes Samar Jafri to a new level. He hasn’t revealed it, but he assures us it will be captivating. Given her role alongside talented Kubra Khan and Ehteshamuddin, Samar Jafri’s role will surely add dynamism to the content revolving around Fatima Jinnah’s life.

The role has been mentioned before but has not been played out, which opens up many possibilities. Will Assim play a younger counterpart of Jinnah, a family member from that period, or do you think there can be a voice-based role that he might do for it?

“In the Light of Fatima Jinnah,” the series designed to be released in 2024. It presents a sorrowful and unfurl narrative about a woman who progressed from a sister to a resolute revolutionary leader. Moreover, she became a respectable political figure. The drama series Fatima Jinnah from the creative stable of Aur Digital is scheduled for screening on the television network in August 2024.

    His Music Journey

Samar Jafri began singing cover songs on the internet and in outside clubs. His fame took off when he recorded ‘Mayi Ri.’ A little over eight months later, he took the titular lead in another play called ‘Mayi Ri’ streaming on ARY Digital, and this proved to be a fantastic moment in his career.

Singing is a severe affair for Jaffri. He invests time in practicing while recording audio and video throughout the day for this purpose only. On January 30, 2024, the music video ‘KAASH—RAAMIS x SAMAR JAFRI’ went online and has been one of his latest projects. This allows audiences to appreciate his vocal range and musicality.

  • The war within; Is PTI out to sabotage itself?

The war within; Is PTI out to sabotage itself?

“Tout brothers”, “Bastd”, “Aadha teetar, aadha batair”. Such words are openly used by PTI members, current and former, to talk to each other in public. Private conversations are reportedly even more furious and fiery, with grievances and accusations marring nearly every meeting. Party unity ka ‘programme tou warrh gya’. Infighting within parties is nothing new.

When Nawaz Sharif was removed from the post of prime minister and subsequently incarcerated, many analysts predicted that the party would disintegrate, split itself along the ideological lines of the two brothers at the helm, Nawaz and Shehbaz, the proverbial noon and sheen. We were told that many PML-N leaders did not want to accept Nawaz’s daughter Maryam Nawaz as the head of the party in her father’s absence.

We knew that many in the party wanted Nawaz Sharif to befriend the establishment again while others opposed it. We saw Chaudhry Nisar walk away from the party. We were told Shahid Khaqan Abassi was unhappy. But what we did not see was party members calling each other “tout” and “BC”, like we can now with PTI.

The most popular party in the country is slugging it out in a very public brawl. Leaders are calling each other out by name, raising questions about each other’s loyalty, airing their dirty laundry in full view of the general public. With Imran Khan in jail, the party is like a headless chicken, running around aimlessly. And it does not seem like any leader is immune to the temptation of behaving in an unruly and undisciplined manner.

Ali Amin Gandapur vs Hammad Azhar As the only PTI leader to hold a position of true power, Ali Amin Gandapur, the Chief Minister of PTI’s power base Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has the unenviable task of managing the responsibilities of his constitutional post with the expectations of his party’s protests.

He has led two protests now, being the only known face at the second one, disappearing afterwards for hours, only to appear later in his province, after reportedly cordially meeting or being roughed up by the powers that be. And then media reported that his motives had been questioned by Hammad Azhar, a PTI leader who is missing in action since quite a long time. During a party meeting where PTI decided to call off its Oct 15 protest, Hammad insisted that the protest be held, despite the SCO starting on the same day.

An irate Gandapur reportedly replied, “You are in hiding yourself yet you are telling party members to come out and protest.” He then pointed his guns towards PTI Punjab. “I came to Islamabad twice [to protest] but PTI Punjab leadership could not be found anywhere.”

Sher Afzal Marwat vs Everyone At one point the most popular leader of the party behind Imran Khan, Marwat the Maverick has seen his star wane after constant battles within the party forced him to leave the center stage. The media’s darling in the early part of this year, Marwat landed in hot water with his colleagues over his outspokenness.

He was criticized at committee meetings, deemed unsuitable for the position of PAC chairman and asked to apologize to party Chairman Gohar Khan. In August, an alleged notification issued by PTI showed the party asking Marwat to resign from his post. It was later on proved to be false. In his latestattack on PTI, Marwat alleged on Sunday that the KP government, led by Ali Amin Gandapur, did not want Imran Khan to be released from jail. A day later he said Ali Amin’sactions could pave the way for Governor Raj in the province.

Salman Akram Raja vs Faisal Chaudhary The affable lawyer Faisal Chaudhry, brother of Fawad Chaudhry, fell victim to Party Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja’s wrath, who removed the advocate from the party’s WhatsApp groups in a fit of rage. Party sources said that Faisal’s unauthorized media talk to journalists outside Adiala Jail proved to be the final straw but Faisal himself said that he was penalized for telling thetruth to Imran Khan when he met him a few days earlier in Adiala jail.

At the time of filing this report, Imran Khan has reportedly played mediator and resolved the fight between the two. But the spat led to the following mega brawl. Fawad Chaudhry vs Azhar Mashwani vs Raoof Hassan Though Fawad Chaudhry is no longer a member of PTI, he does seem to be committed to accepting Imran Khan as his leader. Once considered a very close aide of Imran Khan, Fawad still comments on matters that other members consider none of his business. He appeared on Gharidah Farooqui’s show, leading to a polite disagreement with Shahbaz Gill.

However, he later changed gears and decided to outright criticize party leaders, leading to public spats on Twitter. Mashwani took the opportunity of using Faisal’s removal from party WhatsApp groups to tell Fawad on Twitter, in so many words, that he needed to criticize the “zaalim and not the mazloom”.

Meanwhile, Raoof Hassan took to Twitter to call Faisal and Fawad the “tout brothers” and declared Faisal’s entry into the legal team a “sinister attempt” to create divisions within the party. Never one to mince his words, Fawad replied by calling Raoof a “baard”and a “BC”, pointing out that Faisal had contested the cases of 500 PTI workers pro bono while Raoof took a salary.

Aleema Khan vs Bushra Bibi Reportedly, Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, the most politically active member of his family, and his wife Bushra Bibi have also clashed multiple times since Khan’s arrest and subsequent incarceration.

In August this year, many journalists talking to Imran inside Adiala Jail reportedly said that they heard Aleema and Bushra shouting at each other in a tiff over a female lawyer.
Around the same time, a message allegedly sent by Aleema Khan to Raoof Hasan asked him not to spread a “foolish” message that Bushra Bibi had sent, was leaked to the public.

However, the two have never publicly criticized each other.
