  • Usman Mukhtar chose Jaffaa to shed light on domestic violence

Usman Mukhtar chose Jaffaa to shed light on domestic violence

Friday’s episode of Jaffaa took a different approach from other dramas. It featured a domestic abuse scene like many dramas do, but what stood out was how the abuse was handled afterwards.

Usman Mukhtar, one of the stars of the show, explained on instgram that one reason he joined the show was to highlight the serious issue of domestic violence, something he had witnessed with someone close to him.

He wrote, “You know, every week after Jaffaa’s episode airs, I post a picture of myself and ask for your thoughts on the recent episode. But today is a bit different. One of the two main reasons I took on Jaffaa was to highlight the devastating issue of domestic violence, something I’ve witnessed firsthand through someone very close to me. While I’m not directly part of this storyline, @mohibmirza and @mawrellous amazing performances beautifully capture the emotional weight of abuse. Their portrayal speaks to the suffering so many women endure in silence, and I hope it resonates with viewers in a way that encourages change.

Thank you to our incredible director, @danishnawazofficial , and our producer, @momina.duraid , for their remarkable work on Jaffaa. Tackling the sensitive issue of domestic violence is no small feat, and both Danish bhai and Momina Bhabi approached it with immense care and responsibility.”

In episode 21, Mirza’s character Hassan attacks Hocane’s Zara during an argument about his anger and her use of birth control. What made the episode unique was the reaction to the abuse — Hassan’s grandmother tries to hide it, but Mukhtar’s character immediately understands what happened when he sees Zara. He confronts Hassan, telling him there’s no excuse for hitting a woman.

By the end of the episode, Zara’s father arrives and slaps Hassan, ordering the police to arrest him.

While violence is often shown in Pakistani dramas, it’s rare to see consequences for abusers. Jaffaa took a different path by showing people around the abuser speaking out and ensuring there are real consequences for his actions.

  • Trudeau attacks Modi govt as Canada expels six Indian diplomats

Trudeau attacks Modi govt as Canada expels six Indian diplomats

Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau has once again accused Indian Premier Narendra Modi’s government of involvement in the killing of a Canadian citizen.

Talking to the media on Tuesday, Justin Trudeau said that the Canadian government has “clear and compelling evidence that agents of the government of India have engaged in and continue to engage in activities that pose a significant threat to public safety.”

He said that the Indian government was involved in activities such as covert information-gathering techniques, coercive behaviour, targeting South Asian Canadians and involvement in over a dozen threatening and violent acts, including murder.

“This is unacceptable,” a visibly somber Trudeau said.

The Canadian government also expelled six Indian diplomats, including a High Commissioner, from Canada on Monday, citing New Delhi’s refusal to cooperate in criminal investigations.

The development came after an Indian diplomat was linked to the murder of a Sikh separatist leader.

Rejecting Canada’s claims, the government of India declared the expulsion of diplomats Prime Minister Trudeau’s “political agenda” centred around “vote bank politics.”

Meanwhile, India retaliated today with the expulsion of six Canadian diplomats from New Delhi, including the acting High Commissioner, and it withdrew its envoy from Canada, Dawn News reported.

“People say that divorce is easy, but when I got divorced, I realised that it was a difficult process for me,” she said, adding that she initially didn’t tell her family that she was going to end her marriage.

“But when they came to know about it, they supported me, saying that now I have made a decision and will stick to it.”

She added, “I got divorced for peace of mind and don’t regret any of my decisions.”

Talking about her ex-husband, she remarked, “Not only did I get peace from the divorce, but people around me also got peace. It would get better, but instead of getting better, things got worse.”

“My ex-husband was not addicted to drugs before marriage, but then gradually became addicted to drugs. He also subjected me to physical violence.”

She said, “I think that drugs are just an excuse; even in drunkenness, what comes out of a person is what one is. It became difficult for me and the children, and then the house and the children were destroyed. The responsibility also fell on me because my first husband was not even earning, and when he needed money, he started beating me.”

  • ‘Babar Azam isn’t the issue,’ Nasser Hussain slams Pakistan cricket

‘Babar Azam isn’t the issue,’ Nasser Hussain slams Pakistan cricket

“The problem is not Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi or Naseem Shah; the problem is the way Pakistan cricket is being run,” said former English skipper and commentator Nasser Hussain, while slamming Pakistan cricket.

In an analysis video with Michael Atherton, Naseer commented on the administrative problems within PCB, saying, “27 selectors, many heads and captains have changed in Pakistan in a few years. No organization can succeed with so many changes. One match of the series went badly, and you decided to rest Babar Azam. Either it could have been done before the series, or there could have been talk of giving rest after the three matches.”

Commenting on the analysis, King of Swing and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram wrote on X, “I think finally boys are on to something here.”

    BABAR, SHAHEEN, NASEEM DROPPED

On Sunday, the PCB selection committee decided to drop Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah from the squad for the second Test against England. After this decision, many started criticizing PCB for resting Babar Azam as he needed support and time to stage a come back, which was just one good inning away from him.

Fakhar Zaman also criticized the decision on X, saying, “It’s concerning to hear suggestions about dropping Babar Azam. India didn’t bench Virat Kohli during his rough stretch between 2020 and 2023, when he averaged 19.33, 28.21, and 26.50, respectively.”

‘If we are considering sidelining our premier batsman, arguably the best Pakistan has ever produced, it could send a deeply negative message across the team. There is still time to avoid pressing the panic button; we should focus on safeguarding our key players rather than undermining them,” he added.

Former English captain Michael Vaughan also criticized the PCB for dropping Babar from the squad.

Michael tweeted on X (previously Twitter): “So Pakistan hasn’t won in a while; go one nil down in the series and decide to drop the best player. I guess Pakistan cricket is full of surprises, but this tops the lot. It is an absolutely stupid decision unless he has asked for a break.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan bowling coach Azhar Mehmood said, “We have to take 20 wickets; if we go with spin, then we can get England out. We had a clear plan regarding the pitch; Babar Azam has not been given a drop, and he has been rested due to his workload.”

Kamran Ghulam, Zahid Mehmood, Nauman Ali, and Sajid Khan were included in the team for the second Test being played in Multan.

‘Judges advising political party to prepare for upcoming elections’

Speaker of Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan claimed that certain senior judges are advising one political party to prepare for elections.

Speaking at a press conference at the old assembly building on Monday, the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly said, “There is evidence that certain august members of the judiciary are encouraging a political party to prepare for elections.”

“I have evidence that why a few articles of the constitution were suspended to benefit a party,” he added.

Responding to the role of politics in judiciary, he said that politics in judiciary should end now.

“There was lopsidedness in the court of former Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial as a specific five-man bench would take up all important cases. There was lopsidedness in the another ex-CJP Saqib Nisar’s court,” Khan added.

Lambasting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership for holding protests on the same day as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), which is going to be held Today (Tuesday), he alleged that PTI’s protest has a foreign agenda.

  • Nawaz Sharif hopeful about meeting Narendra Modi soon

Nawaz Sharif hopeful about meeting Narendra Modi soon

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday expressed his desire to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the near future to advocate for better relations with the neighbouring country.

During an interview with an Indian journalist, Barkha Dutt, ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Islamabad, Sharif said, “It would have been a great thing if PM [Narendra] Modi had also attended the SCO summit. I do hope that he and us will have an opportunity to sit together in the not-so-distant future.”

Pak-India relations have gone through upheavals over the last few decades but the 2019 Indian decision to revoke the ‘special status’ of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir downgraded diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Since then, Pakistan has made it a condition to reverse the decision before any talks of normalisation of relations between the two countries.

  • PTI calls off protest; doctors to examine Imran Khan

PTI calls off protest; doctors to examine Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has postponed its protest scheduled for today, October 15, after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi formally contacted the party to ensure medical examination of jailed party founder Imran Khan this morning.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan confirmed last night that PTI has postponed its D-Chowk protest scheduled for today as a breakthrough took place between his party and the government.

Many within PTI, including Gohar and Ali Amin Gandapur, were critical of the protest because it coincided with the highly anticipated SCO summit in Pakistan.

PTI drew criticism from business and economic experts as well, and the party was urged to reconsider its decision.

Earlier, PTI’s spokesperson, Sheikh Waqas Akram, revealed that the party had placed a condition before the coalition government to call off its protest, demanding to allow Khan’s sisters and doctors to meet him at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, citing concerns over Imran Khan’s health.

Initially, the PML-N rejected the proposal, with Senator Talal Chaudhry calling it “blackmail.”

Geo News reported that a team of doctors from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) will visit Adiala Jail along with Khan’s personal physician to examine his health.
