Jerusalem post article declares Imran Khan a central figure in Pak-Israel ties

The Jerusalem Post, one of Israel’s most widely-read newspapers, has declared former Pakistani Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan a central figure in normalising Pak-Israel ties.

An article written by Harry Richer asserts, “Figures like Khan could very well be central in changing both public opinion and military policy” for Pak-Israel ties.

While reviewing the state of Muslim countries trying to normalise ties with Israel for their self-interest, Richer asserted that despite Khan’s pro-Palestine stance, the former PM had hinted at shaping Pakistan’s foreign policy towards Israel.

Richer predicted, “Normalisation with Israel would bring about significant economic benefits, including technological support in agriculture, cybersecurity, and defence.”

Richer added, “A change in leadership would most probably also be needed for any resolution to move forward, and figures like Khan could very well be central in changing both public opinion and military policy.”

Pakistan does not recognise Israel and has long been an ardent and very vocal supporter of Palestine. The ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza has strengthened public opinion in Pakistan against Israel.

As of October 7, more than 41,000 people, the majority of whom are women and children, have been slaughtered by Israel since October 7. Lancet, the respected medical journal, puts the figure at close to 180,000 dead.

  • Supreme Court’s verdict takes election commission to cleaners for ‘failure’ to perform its role

Supreme Court’s verdict takes election commission to cleaners for ‘failure’ to perform its role

In a damning judgment, the Supreme Court of Pakistan on September 23 issued a detailed verdict of the reserved seats case once again, calling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) a “political party” and rightful recipient of their reserved seats’ quota.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, next in line to become the CJP, wrote the 70-page detailed order days after the NA speaker Ayaz Sadiq wrote to ECP to not implement the top court’s July 12 verdict.

On July 12, in a significant political and symbolic win for PTI, a thirteen-member bench of the Supreme Court ruled that PTI had the legal and constitutional right to reserved seats.

The detailed judgement emphasised that lack of political symbols does not devoid any political party of its constitutional rights to take part in elections.

In today’s verdict the Supreme Court strongly criticised the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for failure to play its lawful role in the February 8 elections.

“The Commission must uphold democratic principles and the integrity of electoral processes by ensuring that elections truly reflect the will of the people, thereby preserving the democratic fabric of the nation. Unfortunately, the circumstances of the present case indicate that the Commission has failed to fulfil this role in the General Elections of 2024,” observed the majority judgment.

Furthermore, Justice Shah’s verdict points out that the Supreme Court was “surprised” how the ECP behaved as a “primary contesting party against SIC and PTI”.

‘Mullah gardi band karo’; Sindh fights back against extremism at Dr Shah Nawaz’s funeral

A grand funeral was held on Sunday (September 22) for Dr Shah Nawaz, the man suspected of blasphemy and killed in an alleged extrajudicial encounter by Sindhri police in Mirpurkhas, in his native village near Umarkot. Thousands of funeral attendees chanted angry slogans against the extremist wave of religiosity in the garb of the blasphemy law, resulting in the brutal murder of the medic. The participants belonged to all walks of life and came from all around Sindh, including Karachi.

It was reported that a charged mob which burnt the body of the slain suspect consisted of the far-right Tehreek-i-Labaik Pakistan and other groups. In the videos, the crowd at the funeral could be seen chanting loudly, “Mullah gardi band karo, dehshagardi band karo” (stop this extremism by religious leaders, stop this terrorism).

Dr Shah Nawaz’s grave was also adorned by the Sindhi traditional shawl Ajrak as people sang a folk song at his final resting place.

Many attendees also paid homage to Premo Kohli, a Hindu, who buried the remains of the slain doctor.

The doctor was killed by police after it was alleged that he shared blasphemous content on his Facebook account.

The last video of Dr Shah Nawaz has also emerged online, in which he said that he doesn’t use Facebook anymore. “The ID is very old, under the name Shah Nawaz Shah. I haven’t used it in a long time. I have already mentioned that I’ve stopped using Facebook.” He went on to add, “There’s is nothing to hide, I’m being transparent about everything. I will have everything investigated.” He pleads people not to label him as a disbeliever as he is open to all sorts of investigations. “Let the police do their work,” he asserted.

Earlier, his mother shared her son’s inclination towards Islam, stating that he used to pray five times a day and sent her to Hajj last year.

In the same video, his daughter also asked for justice for her father. “The policemen must be brought to justice! They killed my father, they should be locked up in jail,” she demanded.

Dawn quotes Dr Shah Nawaz’s wife, who said that her husband used to teach the Quran to young children. “How could he indulge in blasphemy?,” she asked.

The police team involved in the alleged encounter have been suspended by the Sindh police and an investigation is underway.

Dr Shahnawaz Kunbhar was fatally shot by police in an alleged extra-judicial killing in Mirpurkhas on September 19, a day after he was arrested on allegations of blasphemy.

  • India took 92 years to achieve this milestone in Test cricket

India took 92 years to achieve this milestone in Test cricket

The Indian cricket team has finally achieved a milestone 92 years in the making while defeating Bangladesh by 280 runs in Chennai on Sunday.

After defeating Bangladesh, the Indian team’s Test wins have exceeded the number of defeats.

For the first time in 92 years, India has won more matches than it has lost in Test cricket. The Indian team has 179 victories in Test matches, and has been defeated in 178 Test matches.

India played its first Test in 1932 under the leadership of CK Naidu, but lost by 158 runs.

Since that match, India has never been able to increase the number of matches it has won more than the number of matches lost, but now, after 92 years, it has been done.

This record is currently held by only five teams who have more wins than losses. Apart from India, Australia, England, South Africa, and Pakistan have achieved this honour.

Pakistan achieved this milestone in the first three years of Test Cricket.

  • Yasir Hussain’s family dynamics changed after his parents passed away

Yasir Hussain’s family dynamics changed after his parents passed away

Family dynamics can change a lot after losing loved ones, and Yasir Hussain is no exception to the rule.

The actor has recently talked about the passing of his parents reshaping his perspective on relationships and responsibilities.

Appearing as a guest on Meri Maa, hosted by Noor Ul Hassan, Yasir opened up about the lasting impact of his parents on his life.

The host asked, “Why do we have so much bitterness towards our loved ones here?”

Yasir replied, “I don’t know, but I feel that in our environment, the kind of atmosphere we have, there are many financial struggles and issues. The majority of people are dealing with financial problems. So, as you grow up, your primary concern isn’t about loving your people; it becomes about taking care of them, providing for them. When you enter that mindset of being a provider, you naturally become a bit stricter and more burdened, and that affection can decrease.”

Hussain fondly recalls his father’s approach to parenting, emphasizing a warmth that was always present, saying, “He was the kind of father who would hug and kiss you in the morning, showing love, because he wasn’t caught up in those issues. I believe the relationship he had was unparalleled, he understood that nobody ever starved. That was a remarkable thing.”

The host again asked, “You once mentioned that your mother gave you some advice that included traveling the world. Could you share what her guidance was for you?”

The Taxali Gate actor said, “Yes, my mother told me to get married, but first, travel the world. I didn’t quite understand what she meant by that. She told me to explore before settling down, and then she left for Rawalpindi. Eventually, I realized that traveling the world was crucial, especially since my education wasn’t extensive. I had tried to complete my degree but didn’t succeed. My mother knew that I was earning and working, so she understood that I might not continue my studies. People often say that traveling broadens your exposure, and I found that to be true. Traveling has greatly helped me in writing, acting, and directing. It’s not just about reading books; it’s about meeting people and experiencing life.”

“My mother had a unique way of treating all the children equally, ensuring balance among us. Parents have a special understanding of these dynamics, which is why, after their passing, the first feeling is that the bond they created has shattered. They maintained a certain attitude and exchange of love that kept everyone united. When they are gone, and the harmony is lost, you realize how important that connection was.”

  • Why didn’t the cricket team believe that Katrina Kaif and Shoaib Akhtar were good friends? Wahab Riaz nay bata dia

Why didn’t the cricket team believe that Katrina Kaif and Shoaib Akhtar were good friends? Wahab Riaz nay bata dia

Former cricketer and chief selector Wahab Riaz recalls how Shoaib Akhtar responded to the disbelief of some team players regarding his friendship with Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif.

Recently, Wahab Riaz appeared as a guest on Tabish Hashmi’s program Hansana Mana Hai where he criticized the poor performance of the national team.

In the same program, Wahab also shared some funny moments from the dressing room. While telling a story from the past, he said, “Once we were on a tour of New Zealand, and all of us players were eating in Shoaib Akhtar’s room. Bollywood star Katrina Kaif’s famous song Sheila Ka Jawani was playing on TV. Shoaib looked at the screen and said that he knew Katrina and that he was also friends with Katrina.”

Wahab smilingly continued, “Muhammad Hafeez was surprised to hear about Shoaib Akhtar and Katrina Kaif’s friendship, but he could not believe it. When no one believed what Shoaib said, he threw everyone out of the room, saying, ‘You people consider me a liar.’ He got angry, and the players had to go to a restaurant to eat.”

Shoaib Akhtar represented Kolkata Knight Riders in the first season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008, where he forged friendships with Bollywood King Shahrukh Khan and superstar Salman Khan.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman warns of instability if Constitution overlooked

The Chief of Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam- Fazl (JUI-F), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has warned that failure to adhere to the Constitution will lead the country towards instability and unrest.

Speaking at an event in Karachi, he talked about this year’s general elections, labeling the incumbent constituent assembly a product of the establishment.

Responding to the government’s proposed controversial constitutional amendments, Fazlur Rehman asserted, “Neither the opposition has a draft [of the proposed amendments], nor do the people know about any such document. Here, every institution wants to interfere in the other’s mandate. These can’t be called reforms by any means.”

The head of JUI-F suggested that institutions operate within their own paradigm and strengthen themselves and expressed a wish to see a robust parliament, judiciary, and military.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman has been a formidable challenge for the government as he resisted the so-called twenty-sixth constitutional amendments despite having only five Senate votes, proving himself to be the decision-maker.

10-year-old pro-Palestine protester arrested in Germany

Videos of multiple members of German police running after and ultimately arresting a 10-year-old protestor holding a Palestinian flag at a Gaza solidarity march have surfaced online, garnering widespread criticism against the country’s anti-Palestine policies.

During a recent pro-Palestine protest in Berlin, a 10-year-old child was detained by police during a crackdown.

Various foreign news agencies reported that the police cracked down on people expressing solidarity with Palestinians against Israeli atrocities in Germany, during which a 10-year-old child was also detained as he was waving the Palestinian flag. While protestors tried to intervene and help the boy, police officers pushed them aside and eventually took the boy into their custody despite him appearing fearful and scared. Fellow protestors then resorted to documenting the arrest on their mobile phones.

The pictures and videos of the detained child went viral on social media, after which netizens condemned the police for harassing and manhandling an innocent child. “More than 9 German police officers arrested a 10-year-old child after chasing him during the pro-Palestine march in Berlin. He is a CHILD!,” a Twitter user pointed out.

Pro Palestine portal Middle East Eye posted the video. However, they asserted that they could not independently confirm the child’s fate or whether he had been released.
