Nadia Afgan refuses to work with Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar

Very few names in the entertainment industry generate as much heated reactions as does Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar.

Television star Nadia Afgan has become the latest major name to refuse working with the misogynistic writer.

Recently, Nadia appeared as a guest on ‘Subh Ka Samaa Madeha Kay Sath’ where the host Madeha Rizvi’s asked, “Is there any artist in the industry with whom you haven’t gotten along, a writer, director, or actor, with whom you don’t want to work?”
The star replied, “Whenever I mention a name, my senior fraternity later tells me, “Look dear, this is very wrong. You should maintain a certain discretion instead of speaking out openly all the time.”

“I have never worked with Khalil sahib, and InshaAllah, I never will. I have never worked with him, and I don’t intend to either,” Afgan added.

Uncertainty surrounds Pakistan’s $7 billion IMF bailout as approval date still not confirmed

Pakistan’s much-anticipated $7 billion bailout package has not yet been scheduled for review by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) executive board, with the agenda extending only until August 30, according to the IMF’s recently released calendar.

In July, Pakistani authorities and the IMF reached a staff-level agreement, potentially paving the way for a 37-month Extended Fund Facility (EFF) valued at SDR 5,320 million (approximately $7 billion).

However, this agreement hinges on the approval of the IMF Executive Board, which is contingent upon Pakistan securing necessary financing assurances from its development and bilateral partners.

The proposed programme is designed to build on the hard-won macroeconomic stability achieved in the past year. It aims to strengthen public finances, reduce inflation, rebuild external reserves, and eliminate economic distortions to foster private sector-led growth.

Despite five weeks having passed since the staff-level agreement, Pakistan has yet to bridge an external financing gap of up to $5 billion.

This delay has prevented the country from signing the Letter of Intent (LoI) required to formally request the IMF executive board’s approval of the $7 billion package under the EFF programme.

The LoI is a critical step in requesting the IMF’s endorsement of the 37-month, $7 billion EFF programme. Without this approval, Pakistan cannot proceed with the much-needed financial support.

  • ‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’ tackles parental favoritism

‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’ tackles parental favoritism

Smash hit ‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’ isn’t just a romantic fest, it also sheds light on a societal issue that often remains hidden: the undue emphasis on financial stability as a measure of parental affection. The series explores how this relationship impacts a family, focussing on the experiences of two brothers, Adeel and Mustafa.

Before marriage, the show shows clear favoritism in the family. As the main provider, Adeel has a lot of say in family decisions, which creates an imbalance. His busy schedule excuses him from family events, leaving Mustafa to handle chores and family duties. Mustafa, who is always there emotionally and helps out, is often ignored compared to Adeel, whose financial success is more valued.

The family dynamics shift after Adeel marries Rubab, the daughter of a businessman. When their father falls ill, Mustafa and his wife, Sharjeena, manage his care with dedication. However, the arrival of Adeel and Rubab changes the situation. Despite Mustafa and Sharjeena’s efforts, the mother’s focus shifts entirely to Adeel and Rubab, who are praised and asked for additional financial help for the father’s heart surgery. This favoritism highlights the mother’s bias towards her financially successful son.

Mustafa’s emotional well-being suffers. Despite his significant contributions to his father’s care, he faces belittlement from his mother, and his wife Sharjeena endures unwarranted criticism. The drama emphasizes the emotional toll of such favoritism, as Mustafa’s efforts are overshadowed by his brother’s financial success, leading to a diminished sense of self-worth.

Sharjeena, Mustafa’s wife, provides a contrasting view. Despite facing resistance from her mother-in-law, she actively participates in household duties and tries to contribute financially. Her efforts challenge traditional gender roles and highlight the bias against women’s financial contributions. The disparity in how Sharjeena and Rubab are treated underscores the prejudices based on socioeconomic status.

  • We can save Rs 50 Billion by enduring two hours of power cuts: Energy Minister defends load shedding

We can save Rs 50 Billion by enduring two hours of power cuts: Energy Minister defends load shedding

Power Minister Awais Leghari has presented the unique logic of load shedding, saying that if power cuts are tolerated for two hours a day, PKR 50 billion can be saved.

Speaking at an event in Islamabad, the minister said, “There is no doubt that we are providing the most expensive electricity in the region, but we are providing cheap electricity to poor consumers who bear the burden of expensive electricity. Due to the industry shutting down, the government has borne the burden of providing electricity to the industry at a low cost.”

He explained the unique logic for saving money, “50 billion rupees can be saved if load shedding is tolerated for two hours. One important measure to save electricity is to switch fans to low wattage, while the government has installed new plants to end load shedding.”

The energy minister said, “The burden on the consumer was 10 rupees per unit, which increased due to the increase in the dollar price. Currently, the average price of electricity is 44 rupees per unit. We had started working on Independent Power Producers (IPPs) quietly. Still, the ministry leaked that something related to IPPs would happen, and we got help, maybe they did what the ministry was not doing openly. We will give good news regarding IPPs, and Pakistan will move forward.”

He also hinted at positive developments in the energy sector that could help reduce costs and improve electricity supply.
