Central contracts, fitness tests; PCB makes major decisions for players

Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi has announced major decisions to improve cricket and team performance.

According to Geo, Naqvi presided over a three-hour meeting at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), during which various suggestions for improving cricket were reviewed.

The board also included Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie in the selection committee. Fitness tests have been made mandatory for every player every three months.

The central contract amount will not be reduced for now; the period of the central contract will be for one year. Performance and fitness will be reviewed every year in different categories of the contract. The inclusion of the players will be as per the prescribed procedure, and the players who meet the fitness and performance criteria will get an opportunity to move forward.

Chairman PCB said, “There will be no compromise on discipline, and there will be a zero-tolerance policy against players who violate discipline. The team should have unity and agreement; grouping players will not be tolerated, and the management will take strict action.”

He said, “My recommendation about any player should not be accepted for violation of discipline. We will build high-performance centers in Islamabad and Peshawar.”

“Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie are fully empowered, have full confidence in them, have given them a free hand, hope both will deliver excellent results and present the final report in this regard.”

Muhammad Yusuf, Asad Shafiq, Usman Wahla and Nadeem Khan have been responsible for reviewing the domestic contract.

‘Only parliament can alter constitution, not SC’; Sanaullah on reserved seats ruling

The Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political & Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, commented on the recent Supreme Court verdict on the reserved seats case, saying, “The judiciary cannot alter the constitution, but parliament can.”

In a significant legal victory for the Imran Khan-founded Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Supreme Court on Friday ruled that the “party is eligible for the allocation of reserved seats”.

Sanaullah criticised the top court’s verdict, saying that it “violated Article 51” and relevant clauses that clearly bound independent candidates to join political parties within three days after elections.

He also disapproved of the ruling granting an additional two weeks to process the independent candidates’ affiliations to their desired political parties.

The senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader also stated that the verdict would be “opening the front gate for horse-trading.”

  • Five reasons to hold off on buying the iPhone 15 and wait for the iPhone 16 release

Five reasons to hold off on buying the iPhone 15 and wait for the iPhone 16 release

With the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro set to launch in just two months, now might not be the ideal time to purchase a new iPhone 15. Unless you urgently need a new device, waiting until September could be advantageous.

Here’s why the iPhone 16 is worth the wait:

    1. Larger screens

The iPhone 16 series promises a notable design enhancement with bigger screens. Reliable sources, including analyst Ross Young, indicate that the iPhone 16 Pro will feature a 6.3-inch display, up from the iPhone 15 Pro’s 6.1 inches.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to boast a 6.9-inch display, compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 6.7 inches. This would make the iPhone 16 Pro Max the largest iPhone to date and the first change in screen sizes since the iPhone 12 Pro series in 2020.

    2. Improved battery life and faster charging

The iPhone 16 lineup is set to include larger batteries across the board. Here’s a comparison of the current iPhone 15 capacities with the expected iPhone 16 capacities:

    – iPhone 15: 3,349 mAh

    – iPhone 15 Plus: 4,383 mAh

    – iPhone 15 Pro: 3,274 mAh

    – iPhone 15 Pro Max: 4,422 mAh

    – iPhone 16: 3,561 mAh (6.3 per cent increase)

    – iPhone 16 Plus: 4,006 mAh (8.6 per cent decrease)

    – iPhone 16 Pro: 3,355 mAh (2.5 per cent increase)

    – iPhone 16 Pro Max: 4,676 mAh (5.7 per cent increase)

Additionally, the iPhone 16 may feature higher energy density batteries and faster charging capabilities, potentially supporting 20W with MagSafe and 40W wired fast charging.

    3. New capture button

All iPhone 16 models will introduce a new Capture button for the camera, positioned on the right side of the phone. This touch-sensitive button will allow users to zoom in and out by swiping and adjust focus and shutter speed with varying pressure.

    4. Apple intelligence integration

Apple’s new suite of AI features, Apple Intelligence, will be fully supported by the iPhone 16 lineup, thanks to a new chip and additional RAM. This suite, announced at WWDC, will bring advanced AI capabilities to the iPhone, enhancing user experience significantly.

    5. Enhanced camera features

The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to adopt the 5x zoom tetraprism camera currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. New Sony sensors for the main camera and a 48 MP ultra-wide camera will also be featured, providing substantial improvements over the iPhone 15 Pro’s 12 MP ultra-wide camera.

The iPhone 16 series is slated for release in September. Are you planning to upgrade? What features are you most excited about? Share your thoughts in the comments.

  • PM Shehbaz urges FBR to modernise tax system without burdening honest taxpayers

PM Shehbaz urges FBR to modernise tax system without burdening honest taxpayers

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to implement a strategy using the latest technology to expand the tax base without imposing additional burdens on honest taxpayers.

During his visit to the FBR Headquarters, the Prime Minister underscored the government’s commitment to steering Pakistan towards economic progress and stability.

Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the necessity of collective and individual efforts, sincerity, and sacrifices to prioritise national interests over personal gains.

He described the recent staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as a positive development for the country’s economy and expressed optimism that the IMF board would endorse it.

He urged the FBR to work diligently to ensure this IMF programme is the last one needed, paving the way for a prosperous future.

Sharif emphasised the importance of taxing those who evade payments to alleviate the repeated financial strain on honest taxpayers, including government employees. He advocated for leveraging modern technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to digitise FBR operations, which he viewed as crucial for broadening revenue sources without unfairly burdening compliant taxpayers.

The Prime Minister criticised the reliance on foreign debts, stressing that sustainable nation-building requires self-reliance and effective tax collection. He insisted that current FBR reforms be conducted objectively and transparently, prioritising national interests. Sharif also instructed FBR Chairman Malik Amjad Zubair Tiwana to bring any departmental issues to light promptly.

Acknowledging FBR’s success in collecting 30% more revenue compared to the previous year, Sharif insisted that tax enforcement should focus on achieving set targets without causing undue difficulties for compliant businesses and industrialists.

He recalled the introduction of agricultural tax in Punjab 27 years ago, which was subsequently adopted by other provinces, highlighting the need to address general sales tax collection issues.

Upon his arrival at FBR Headquarters, Sharif was welcomed by key government officials, including Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Minister of State for Finance Ali Pervaiz Malik. The Prime Minister paid homage to the FBR’s fallen heroes by laying a wreath and offering Fateha. He reiterated that the automation and digitisation of FBR are government priorities and authorised the immediate release of Rs2 billion to enhance the Web-Based One Customs System (WeBOC).

The meeting, attended by several ministers and senior officials, included a briefing on ongoing FBR reforms and the progress of the digitisation strategy.

The Prime Minister was informed of the completion of the first phase of the FBR Tajir Dost Mobile application, which simplifies tax return processes. Additionally, the use of advanced technology has identified approximately 4.9 million potential taxpayers.

Sharif instructed the FBR to expand the tax net to include these identified individuals and to address the legitimate demands of flour mill owners through direct engagement.
